Mainbrace Cornish Dry Gin
Splice the mainbrace with a #gin designed to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee from @MainbraceRum which I bought during a recent visit to @DrinkfinderUK
One of my favourite things to do after a visit to the gardens at Glendurgan and Trebah near Mawnam Smith on the Helford estuary is to pop into The Ferry Boat Inn, sit outside with a pint of foaming ale and watch the little boats sail up and down and across the river. It was such a moment that inspired the birth of Mainbrace Distillery, specifically when Richard Haigh, a co-founder, saw a member…

I have made it to the the land of many boozes! @drinkfinderuk has a store in the middle of one of the most cornish villages you can find. Constantine is on the Lizard peninsula just outside Falmouth and in the centre is the Constantine Stores home to the most amazing selection of wines and spirits i have ever seen! There must've been over 300 gins. It may well be only 10:30 but the lady has offered us a taste of a few! Tally ho! #gintasting #ginholiday #gin #ginandtonictime #ginlove #gincollecting #cornishgin #gintonica #300gins #constantinestores

Tobermory Hebridean Gin
The spirit of the Isle of #Mull from @TobDistillery a malty, herby #gin bought on a recent visit to @DrinkfinderUK #ginreview
Famous for its brightly painted houses that line the main street up to the pier, with a backdrop of tree-lined hills that look across the Sound of Mull, Tobermory is the principal town on the Hebridean island of Mull and the starting point for a trip to Iona. If you stay the night in the town, as I did some years ago, the whisky distillery, originally known as Ledaig Distillery when it was…

One Gin Sage Premium London Dry Gin
A #gin designed to make the world a better place, showcasing #sage as its principal botanical, from @TheSpiritofOne bought at @DrinkfinderUK
One Gin Sage Premium London Dry Gin is another one of those gins that I picked up on a recent trip to the headquarters of Drinkfinder UK in Constantine, down in Cornwall, although it is not Cornish in origin. Rather it is produced near the smoke in Richmond-upon-Thames. As is the modern way, it has an ethical and sustainable twist to its back story, one that, intriguingly, has its roots in…

Looe Gin Navy Strength
My take on Looe #Gin Navy Strength from @CopperfishD bought from @DrinkfinderUK #GinReview
Looe is a beautiful seaside resort in southeast Cornwall and just off the seafront at West Looe, the town is intersected by the River Looe, is Looe Island, once a site for pilgrims and now a sanctuary for rare plants and wildlife. For gin afficionados Looe is the home of Copperfish Distillery, an enterprising distillery that is making waves from its quayside distillery with a range of spirits…

Luxardo London Dry Gin
My take on Luxardo London Dry #Gin bought from @DrinkfinderUK #GinReview
Founded in 1821 by Girolamo Luxardo and still controlled by the same founding family, Luxardo is one of the oldest European companies producing liqueurs and spirits. It is best known for its Maraschino Liqueur and Cherries and operates out of Torreglia in Padua after moving from Zara, the Venetian capital of Dalmatia, following the devastation caused to the area in the final throes of the Nazi…

Old Git Gin
My take on Old Git #Gin #GinReview @DrinkfinderUK
As someone who is in their seventieth year and growing more cantankerous and curmudgeonly by the day, I was drawn to Old Git Gin when I was surfing the pages of Drinkfinder UK’s website on the look out for new gins for my cabinet. A striking name for a spirit is one way to grab attention in the crowded marketplace spawned by the ginaissance, but it is a ploy that can be double-edged. Go too far…

Dry Gin XII
My thoughts on Dry #Gin XII #Ginreview @DrinkfinderUK
Distilleries et Domaines de Provence emerged in 1974 out of the Distillerie de Lure, which was founded in 1898 at Forcalquier in Provence. It is perhaps best known for its range of absinthes, liqueurs, and Rinquinquin, a rather tasty peach wine. Given its locale and the distillery’s use of botanicals in its other products, it is not surprising that they have ventured into the world of the…

Holborn London Dry Gin
A lovely London Dry #Gin from @HolbornGin @DrinkfinderUK #GinReview
My third purchase on my recent trip to the Constantine Store, home of Drinkfinder UK, was one steeped in the history of gin, Holborn London Dry Gin. The development of the continuous still by Aeneas Coffey in the 1830s was a ground-breaking moment for distillers as it meant that they could make a consistent pure grain spirit at a predetermined strength. No longer did they need to mask inferior…

Blackwoods Navy Strength Vintage Gin
A #gin with an ABV of 60% from @BlackwoodsGin @DrinkfinderUK #GinReview
In a time when shrinkflation seems particularly rife with distilleries reducing the ABV of even their long established products – stand up, Tanqueray – it is pleasing to come across one who are not only prepared to turn the dial up a notch or two but are also selling their spirit at a comparatively reasonable price. Searching the shelves of gins at Constantine Stores, the headquarters of…

St Giles Gin
An elegant contemporary #gin from @StGilesGin @DrinkfinderUK #GinReview
My bi-annual jaunt to West Cornwall leads me unerringly to the portal of Constantine Stores, headquarters of Drinkfinder, to stock up an empty box in the boot of my car with some more gins spawned by the ginaissance. The first to tickle my fancy was St Giles Gin, produced by the Norwich Dry Gin Company and launched in 2017. The project is the brain child of Professional diver, Simon Melton, who…

Loveday Kissing Gate Gin
Loveday Kissing Gate #Gin #GinReview @DrinkfinderUK
When I am walking in the countryside, I much prefer to cross from one field to another through a kissing gate rather than over a cattle grid. The term “kissing gate” has been in use since the 16th century and describes a gate, usually sited in a gap in the hedgerow, consisting of a semi-circular, square or V-shaped enclosure on one side and a hinged gate that swings between two shutting posts. It…

Jynevra Organic Gin
A lovely #organic #veganfriendly #gin from Atlantic Distillery in #Cornwall @DrinkfinderUK #ginreview
In 2006 that head brewer Stuart Thompson and distiller David Carbis formed Atlantic Brewery with the specific brief of creating unique, memorable, and quality small batch alcoholic drinks. They quietly beavered away for a decade or so on Treisaac Farm, a 2.5-acre site a few miles from the sea near Newquay in Cornwall, making a name for themselves by using traditional methods to create…

Kirkjuvagr Orkney Gin
A taste of the sea a #gin steeped in the history and culture of the #Orkneys from @Kirkjuvagr_Gin @DrinkfinderUK #ginreviews
It is hard to mistake where Kirkjuvagr Origin Hand Crafted Orkney Gin comes from, it wears its Orcadian origins with pride. Stephen and Aly Kemp founded the distillery in the archipelago’s largest town, Kirkwall, in February 2016 with the aim of creating a high-quality brand that was reflective of them and the island that they came from. What is now Origin gin, originally, just plain Orkney gin,…

Ebba Cornish Dry Gin
Distilled in the shadow of @ntmichaelsmount and in a beautiful #ceramic #bottle taste the sea with Ebba Cornish Dry #Gin @DrinkfinderUK #ginreviews
One of Cornwall’s most stunning sights is St Michael’s Mount, a rocky island in St Michaels’ Bay complete with a mediaeval castle and church. Depending upon tides you can either walk there or back from Marazion or, when the tide is in, travel by boat. Be prepared for a bit of a climb when you get to the island but the terraced gardens, the castle and its art collection are well worth the effort.…

Cornish Rock Gin
A citrus-forward #gin from the enterprising @cornishrockgin purchased on a recent visit to @DrinkfinderUK #ginreview
The quiet waters of the Cornish distilling world turned distinctly choppy in September when Nigel Farage launched a range of three Cornish gins made with “patriotic flavours” and featuring the man himself walking along a Cornish beach with his Labrador. Detractors expected it to be full of promise but leaving a bad taste in the mouth, but what caused a stushie was his comments that he had worked…
