BOLT launches its Electric Vehicle Charging Socket 'BOLT LITE'
Tumblr media
BOLT, India's largest EV Charging Network, announced the launch of BOLT LITE, India's First Safest, Smartest and Most Affordable Universal EV Charging Socket. Made-in-India, the BOLT LITE socket is compatible with all portable chargers that come with any EV and works with the existing AC power supply at home. The BOLT LITE charging sockets are available at an introductory price of INR 2599.
Tumblr media
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, India has more than 1.3 million EVs on the road as of August 2022. The sale of EVs this year has gone up over three times as compared to the sales in FY 2020-21. The GoaI is targeting to achieve EV sales penetration of 30% for private cars, 70% for commercial vehicles and 80% for two and three-wheelers by 2030. To achieve this, India needs safe, smart and affordable EV charging solutions for home. The presence of safe EV chargers at home not only provides users with the convenience of charging their EVs but also boosts confidence among people who are considering purchasing it. According to reports, more than 80% of EV owners charge their vehicles at home due to the convenience and low cost of residential charging. Most EVs come with an on-board charger which allows users to directly plug their vehicles into a standard 15A charging socket. However, apart from being slow and least energy efficient, these sockets do not offer any direct safety or monitoring features and are not recommended for long term EV charging. Unsafe charging at home using a standard 15A socket can result in sudden power surges which can damage the EV battery. News reports of EV batteries bursting into fire and creating blazes in India have been mostly due to the owner not knowing how to charge a battery safely. Additionally, EV users also face challenges with power theft, access control and unidentified energy consumption in shared parking spaces. BOLT LITE has been designed to address all the issues arising from ineffective home charging and provides EV consumers with a safe and affordable solution to charge their EVs. BOLT LITE is compatible with two, three and four wheel EVs and requires no additional infrastructure and can be installed in under 30 minutes with little to no maintenance. It offers dual-layer of protection with an in-built MCB that automatically switches off electrical circuits during any abnormal condition in the electrical network such as overload and short circuit conditions. Furthermore, the smart energy meter provides bifurcation for energy consumed by the BOLT LITE charging socket vs. the power supply of the home via the BOLT app. BOLT LITE is IP65 certified and therefore provides complete protection from dust, oil, water and other non-corrosive material and can endure all weather conditions. Not only does BOLT LITE give an efficient power transfer, users also get faster charging to help ensure their EV is fully charged overnight. BOLT LITE is India's first smart charging socket that is IoT-enabled and helps connect EV users across the country. It comes with an energy calculator to monitor the power consumption and gives the user access to a lifetime of passive income. Owners can choose to switch the device status between 'Public' and 'Private', where 'Public' charging sockets are open to the public and are available for booking on the BOLT app. The charging sockets marked as 'Private' are exclusively for the use of device owners. Furthermore, BOLT LITE can be operated with or without the BOLT app and supports both Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and WiFi communication. When set to private mode, BOLT LITE does not require the internet or the BOLT app to be operated. Consumers can place an order for BOLT LITE via the BOLT website, any of the channel partners or dealers/distributors. BOLT has partnered with more than 25 OEMs globally, including 7 out of the top 10 OEMs in India to build a safe, smart and connected ecosystem for electric vehicles. Read the full article

Why choose EV Car Portable Charger
One advantage of owning an ev car portable charger is that you never need to stop at the convenience store to recharge. But let's say you reside in a place with poor infrastructure. To avoid having to search for an available EV charger nearby in such a case, it's likely that you'll need to install an EV home charging station.
An EV Car Portable charger is used by the majority of electric vehicle drivers since it is practical and affordable. You can benefit from a low-cost, reliable private power tariff by charging in your garage. The annual cost of operating your car can be on par with the annual cost of operating an air conditioner. It is possible to charge in a multi-family private complex, such as a condo or apartment, but it can be challenging and more like public charging.
Fuel costs are cheaper for electric cars than for conventional ones. Either the simple electric vehicle supply hardware or the slightly more complex electric vehicle supply hardware can be used for home charging. Level 2 EVSE is quicker and potentially more advantageous than level 1, but it also requires special gear that is more expensive to install. For both varieties of EVSE, the charging cord needs to be kept in a secure place.
Examine EV manufacturer instructions for details on the necessary charging equipment and comprehend the nuances before selecting an ev car portable charger.
Tumblr media
What are LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 2 EVSE?
Level 1 EVSE
A 120 volt AC socket is used for charging by this level of EVSE. Depending on your condition, it can be used to charge both half and full electric automobiles, extending a vehicle's range by about 2 to 5 miles per hour.
These chargers don't need any additional setup and may be inserted into a regular home outlet. A module 120/240-volt Level 12 charger is included by a select few manufacturers, including Tesla. Similar to how an electric dryer is connected, these dual voltage chargers can be used with either a 120-volt or a more potent 240-volt power source.
Level 2 EVSE
With Level 2 chargers, the charging speed can be increased to anywhere from 12 to 60 miles per hour. In any case, the quantity of electricity that the car's built-in charger can handle will set a limit on that number. Buying a charging station that can communicate more power than the vehicle can acknowledge won't harm the vehicle because the vehicle always controls how much power it uses. In fact, a lot of individuals decide to purchase a charging station that has a higher power capacity than their current EV can handle so they'll be ready if their future EV has a faster charging speed.

Kia’s fast-charging EV6 electric crossover is coming to the U.S. in early 2022
The Kia EV6, an all-electric crossover that kicks off the automaker’s Plan S strategy to shift away from internal combustion engines and toward EVs, will come to the U.S. early next year, the company said Tuesday evening during a live streamed event in New York.
The EV6 is the first dedicated battery-electric vehicle to built on its new Electric-Global Modular Platform, a platform that is shared with Hyundai and Genesis as part of the Hyundai Motor Group. The EGM-platform is the underlying foundation of the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 compact crossover. And it’s one of 11 electric vehicles that Kia plans to deliver globally by 2026.
Kia said its new dedicated battery electric vehicles will all start with the “EV” prefix. A number will follow “EV” to indicate the vehicle’s position in the lineup. That puts the EV6 somewhere in the middle of its upcoming lineup.
While the global debut held earlier this year provided many of the details, a few new nuggets of information were shared, including that customers can make reservations for 1,500 first edition versions of the EV6 beginning June 3. The automaker has not revealed pricing for any of the vehicle trims.
The EV6 First Edition will be similar to the base model with lots of techie add-ons, including an augmented reality head-up display, remote smart parking assist feature, 14-speaker Meridian audio system and a two-year subscription to SiriusXM. There will be notable mechanical and exterior differences as well, including a wide sunroof, 20-inch wheels, dual-motor AWD and a 77.4 kWh battery.
2022 EV6 Image credit: Kia
Nuts and bolts
Kia designed the EV6 to look and perform like a roomy sports car. The four-door crossover has a low front end that moves up into a roofline, giving it coupe-like profile. The LED headlights have a segmented pattern and the traditional grille found on internal combustion engine vehicles is gone.
The EV6 has the same 114.2-inch wheelbase as the Kia Telluride, which gives some sense of its size.
The Kia EV6 will come with two Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese battery pack options — a 58 kWh or 77.4 kWh — with the larger one providing a targeted range of 300 miles. The vehicle is offered in both rear-wheel and AWD, which depending on the electric motor and battery configuration delivers between 167 and 313 horsepower. The EV6 GT, an AWD model that comes with the larger battery and powerful front and rear electric motors, delivers 567 horsepower. The GT model, which won’t be available until late 2022, can travel from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds.
Perhaps more importantly, is that the vehicle supports 400-volt and 800-volt DC charging. Kia claims that 800v DC fast charging from a 350-kW charger can add up to 210 miles to the battery in under 18 minutes.
Kia loaded up on various charging features. The EV6 has an onboard 11 kW charger for Level 2 charging that will power up the battery in about seven hours. There’s also what Kia calls vehicle-to-load functionality, which is jargony way of saying the EV6 can be a power source for appliances, tools and devices like a computer. It works by taking electricity from the battery to a charging control unit, which provides 1900 watts of power.
The user is able to plug into that power via a 100v outlet located in a socket on front of second row seat base. If the battery is fully charged, Kia says power  can be drawn from the vehicle for 36 or more consecutive hours. It can also be used to charge vehicle-to-vehicle, albeit at 1.1 kW, which is a glacial pace that is equivalent to a 110V charger.

There are numerous other driver assistance, safety and in-car tech features as well. Inside the vehicle, are two 12-inch screens that form a curved display and house the instrument cluster and infotainment center. There is Bluetooth functionality and wireless smartphone charging, which has become standard fare in modern vehicles.
For an extra fee, customers can add on a Wi-FI hotspot and the ability to update the maps and infotainment system software wirelessly. Other features include a in-car commerce feature called Kia Pay, a stolen vehicle recovery tracker, smartwatch accessibility that provides battery status, vehicle notifications and certain vehicle control through Apple and Android smartwatches and connected car functions for weather and routing.
Customers are also able to use Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant through a smart speaker integration to remotely control vehicle functions such as remote start.
Four cameras outside of the vehicle give a 360-degree view and help with to detect obstructions while parking along with several other safety features including a safe exit assist that alerts the driver or passengers opening the door to not exit if the system spots approaching traffic.
There is also 21 standard active advanced driver assistance systems including a feature that keeps a set distance from a car in front and centers the EV6 in the lane. A newer version of this feature will be able to assist with assist with lane changes and adjust the lateral position of the car within the lane, according to Kia.
Automakers, suppliers and startups see growing market for in-vehicle AR/VR applications

Why should you Buy EV home Charging Station?
Owning an electric vehicle has various benefits, including the way that you never need to visit a corner store to re-energize. But suppose you live in an area with a lack of infrastructure. In such situation, there's a good chance you'll need to install an EV home charging station so you don't have to look for an open EV charger nearby.
Because an EV home charging station is convenient and inexpensive, the majority of electric vehicle drivers use home chargers. Charging in your garage allows you to take advantage of a cheap, consistent private power tariff. The cost of running your vehicle for a year can be comparable to the cost of running an air conditioner. Charging in a multi-family private complex, such as a condominium or apartment, is possible, but can be complicated and more akin to public charging.
Electric automobiles have lower fuel expenses than conventional vehicles. Home charging can make use of either the basic electric vehicle supply hardware or the slightly more complicated electric car supply hardware. Level 2 EVSE is faster and can be more advantageous, but it requires extraordinary hardware that is more expensive to install than level 1. The charging cord should be safely stored for both types of EVSE.
Before choosing a home auto charger, you should examine EV manufacturer directions for information on the required charging equipment and understand the intricacies. Before installing an EV home charging station, verify with your utility company and engage an electrical contractor to receive bids.
What are LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 2 EVSE?
Level 1 EVSE
This level EVSE provides charging via a 120 volt AC socket. It adds around 2-5 miles of range to a vehicle each hour of charging time, making it suitable for module half and half electric vehicles, depending on your condition.
These chargers can be plugged into a standard home socket and do not require any special setup. A few manufacturers, such as Tesla, include a module 120/240-volt Level 12 charger. These dual voltage chargers may be used with either a 120-volt or a more powerful 240-volt power supply, similar to what an electric dryer connects to.
Level 2 EVSE
Level 2 chargers increase the charging rate to anywhere between 12 and 60 miles per hour. In any case, that number will be limited by the amount of electricity that the vehicle's fitted charger can accept. Because the vehicle is always in charge of how much power it consumes, purchasing a charging station that can communicate more force than the vehicle can acknowledge will not hurt the vehicle. Indeed, many people elect to buy a charging station that can deliver more power than their current EV can accept, so they'll be ready if their next EV can charge at a faster rate.

So I have driven quite a few hybrid vehicles lately I’ve never actually driven a pure electric vehicle or EV before so I was a bit excited when Hyundai gave me the keys to the IONIQ Electric for the week. Hyundai have doubled down on the IONIQ by not just bringing out an EV model but also a Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of it as well. On the outside I quite like the sloping fastback profile, the frontend features LED day time running lights DRL’s, front bumper air ducts (which create an air curtain around the front wheels to improve high-speed aerodynamic efficiency), and active grill shutters which will open when the engine needs more cooling. While the frontend isn’t too bad I’m a fan of the grey grill I would prefer it to be black. The 16inch alloy rims are Aerodynamically designed to minimise air turbulence, The rear end features LED tail lights, integrated rear spoiler and a matte grey insert to tie in with the front end another one of those personal things I would prefer it to be black and it would suit the gleaming white paint work better as well.
On the inside the IONIQ is where Hyundai have extended the car green credentials through the use of eco friendly materials. With sugar cane by products accounting for 25% of the raw materials for the soft touch door trim panels and recycled plastic, powdered wood and volcanic stone contributing to 10% of the plastics used elsewhere inside. Bio fabrics were used to make the carpets and head lining where sugar cane by products made up 20% of the raw materials. The slip behind the flat bottomed leather clad wheel that’s not only comfortable to hold but the right thickness for me, behind the wheel  your greeted by a 7 inch high resolution TFT LCD that provides information including energy flow, battery state and Eco drive info as well as a digital speedo.
The slim dash line brings your eye sight to the main focus of the interior the 10.25inch multimedia touchscreen that dominates the centre stack with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and full Bluetooth connectivity which can be accessed via steering wheels buttons you hardly have to take your hand’s off the wheel. I found the system very easy to use and connecting my phone via android auto took no time, the standard fit satellite navigation system works wonderful and also features a ‘Charging Station’ category allowing you to identify nearest Type 2 charging stations from your location which I did use and it worked great. The bottom of the centre stack features the climate control aircon buttons that are touch controls, which integrate well into the centre stack and the piano black finishes just adds to the look. The leather appointed seats are comfortable and supportive being the premium model they also the front seats are air ventilated and heated and there is also a memory function to keep you fav driving position. The rear seats are comfortable and offer a decent amount of legroom but the fastback styling means rear passengers have to watch their heads getting in. Storage wise the Ioniq has plenty of storage available with a big glove box, console storage bin with a USB connection,  door pockets with bottle storage, dual cupholders near the gearshift, wireless charging bay, a tray for other items which has two 12-volt sockets and a USB connection. The back seat has plenty of options as well including a map pocket on the back of the front passenger seat, door pockets, 2 cupo holders in the fold down centre arm rest boot space is an ample 462 litres with the seats up and grows to a healthy 1417 litres with the 60/40 split folding rear seats.
Under the bonnet is where all the magic happens and the IONIQ electric is powered by a 100kW electric motor connected to a 38.3kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. Since it was my first experience with an all-electric I wasn’t sure what to expect on the road but the advantage of and electric engine is you have all that wonderful torque available from the moment you push that go pedal which means not only can the IONIQ easily with traffic and sit on the speed limit on the freeway it can also get along quite rapid if you want.
The IONIQ Electric uses regenerative braking to add charge to battery while driving which works really good, using steering wheel mounted paddles you adjust the level of brake force while on the move. By using the left hand paddle, you’ll increase the regenerative braking effect while as the right hand paddle will decrease the regenerative level, coasting further to maximise efficiency. The IONIQ Electric, with a choice of Eco, Normal, Sport and all new Eco+ drive modes to choose from  which maximise the performance of IONIQ. Eco setting the controls to the most efficient balance, while Normal mode harmonises responsiveness and efficiency, Sport mode offers instant throttle response. The all new Eco+ drive mode maximises vehicle range by setting a 90 km/h speed limit, switching off the air conditioning, heating, and fans (user override-able), as well as optimising the default regenerative braking level. As far as charging goes  time it takes the Ioqniq to charging varies depending on what method you use. Hyundai sells what they call an emergency charge cable which lets you charge from any standard 10a power point not exactly how long it would take from dead empty to 100% but it took just over 5hrs to charge it to 100% from 73% when I charged it at home. You can also buy a home charger unit from Hyundai for your garage which will charge it to 100% in just over 6 hours. The Ioniq can also be charged from a 100kW fast charging station and which will charge the Ioniq to 80% in 54min or 57 min from a 50kW charging station quoted range for the Ioniq is just over 370km depending on how you drive it. But that means that most people using it for a commute in the city would probably only need to charge it once a week my commute is not that long so I recon I could go 2 or 3 weeks in between charges.
If you want to take a longer trip however it would require some planning though. On the road and the Ioniqs has benefited from Hyundai’s local suspension tuning program and it rides awesome I found it great to drive it soaks up small bumps and even bigger surface imperfections with ease, the steering has decent feel and will go where you point it, remember this is not a sports car so it’s not going to handle like one it makes one hell of great cruiser. Safety wise Ioniq has 5 star ANCAP rating  and comes with huge list of safety features including  7 airbags ABS, brake assist, EBD, as well as traction and stability control, Hill-start Assist Control, Blind Spot Collision Warning, Forward Collision Avoidance Assis’ (city/urban/interurban/pedestrian) Lane Following Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Collision Warning and Smart Cruise Control. It gets full and bonus points from me for having front and rear parking sensors as well a rear vision camera. Warranty wise the ioniq comes with Hyundai’s ‘iCare’ ownership program 5 year/unlimited km warranty, with 12 months roadside assist and a (complimentary) 1500km first service included. The Ioniq battery warranty extends for eight years/160,000km. Service intervals for the Ioniq Electric are every 12 months and cost $160 each year for the first 5 years. Servicing your car with a an authorised Hyundai dealer will get you 10year sat nav update plan and a roadside support plan.
Pricing The Ioniq was my first step into an all electric car and I can’t help but can’t come away more impressed,  Ioniq electric is great car that is comfortable to drive and ride in has a decent amount  of room is well equipped and comes with a bucket load of safety features. Price wise the Elite version starts at just over $53,300 while the Premium model I tested starts at just over $57,000 and yes cars when you compare them to a similar sized conventionally powered car then yes it looks a little expensive but compared to others in it’s class it’s priced well. Really if you are in the market for an electric vehicle you should have the ioniq on your list for more information on the Ioniq visit Hyundai’s website www.hyundai.com/au/en .
2020 Hyundai Ioniq Premium Electric review So I have driven quite a few hybrid vehicles lately I’ve never actually driven a pure electric vehicle or EV before so I was a bit excited when Hyundai gave me the keys to the IONIQ Electric for the week.

• Next-generation Soul EV debuts in Los Angeles ahead of 2019 sales
• Features a powerful electric motor producing 204 ps and 395 Nm of torque, and a 64 kWh battery pack, for greater range than ever
• European Soul EV sales start in first half of 2019, UK details to follow
Kia Motors has unveiled the all-new Soul EV at the 2018 LA Auto Show, a completely new iteration of Kia’s award-winning zero-emissions compact crossover. The new model is just as quirky, fun-loving and crowd-pleasing as ever, and with its all-electric powertrain, lovers of the Soul need never visit another filling station ever again.
High-capacity next-generation battery pack The Soul EV features a new cutting-edge liquid-cooled lithium-ion polymer 64 kWh battery pack, with a vastly improved range over the outgoing model. This improved range means significantly less need for daily recharging – and a Combined Charging System (CCS) DC fast-charge, fitted as standard, means shorter stops and rapid battery charging.
The Soul EV is currently being tested to ascertain its estimated range, with the overall battery range due to be announced early in 2019.
Driving dynamics: more fun than ever The Soul EV has always provided a comfortable, refined ride, making silent progress with seemingly effortless pull. Now, with 204 ps and 395 Nm of torque (up from 285 Nm in the outgoing model), the car accelerates even more strongly. Handling and driving dynamics are also much improved, thanks to the adoption of new fully-independent rear suspension. The Soul EV also provides plenty of tools for drivers to customise their driving experience and their battery usage, with four drive modes – Eco, Comfort, Sport and Eco+ – which automatically adjust power output to the traction motor. The driving modes also control the level of regenerative braking on offer, air conditioning and heating settings, and enable drivers to set speed limits to help manage operating efficiency in different driving conditions.
The Soul EV’s smart regenerative braking is operated via paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, providing drivers with the ability to slow the car and capture more kinetic energy, adding extra range. Drivers can choose from four regenerative braking levels (0 to 3), depending on desired driving smoothness, enjoyment and efficiency. The regenerative braking system also features a ‘Brake and Hold’ system, which enables drivers to use the paddle shifters to bring the car to a full stop while harvesting kinetic energy.
In addition, the smart regenerative braking system adjusts the braking level based on a vehicle being detected in front of the Soul EV, creating smoother coast-down driving, especially when descending a steep road.
The system is paired with a Smart Eco Pedal Guide display on the instrument cluster, which keeps the driver aware of real-time battery usage based on accelerator pedal input.
Soul EV design highlights The Soul EV boasts an all-new exterior design that stays true to the car’s boxy origins – a distinctive look beloved by legions of fans around the world. The Soul EV is built with the same architecture, but is imbued with unique styling, providing it with a flair of its own.
The Soul EV features restyled front and rear bumpers, for a smoother, more aerodynamic appearance. It features a solid insert in place of the conventional Soul’s front grille, with a door housing the charging socket conveniently located on the driver’s side. The Soul EV’s unique LED headlamps are strikingly integrated into the upper ‘brow’ of the front of the car, which itself extends the full width of the car for a wide, stable appearance. The EV’s ‘face’ is finished with unique fog lamps, while, in profile, the zero-emissions Soul gets its own five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheel design, distinct from other models in the Soul line-up.
Technology befitting a thoroughly modern vehicle The Soul EV comes equipped with a long list of advanced features to enhance safety, improve the driving experience and provide ease of operation and ownership.
Depending on market, the Soul EV is available with a suite of Kia’s advanced driver-assistance systems, and a long list of standard and optional equipment.
In-cabin technology includes a high-tech ‘shift-by-wire’ rotary shifter, while the Soul’s infotainment system is based on a 10.25-inch colour touchscreen with rear-view monitor and parking guidance. The infotainment package is supported by Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, as well as Bluetooth® wireless connectivity with voice recognition. The system is paired with a six-speaker audio system with USB input and steering-wheel mounted audio controls.
Safety is a major focus for all new Kia models, and the Soul EV is no exception. Depending on market, the car is fitted with up to seven airbags (dual front air bags, dual front seat-mounted side air bags, side curtain air bags with rollover sensor, and a driver's side knee air bag), as well as a suite of vehicle safety systems. These include anti-lock braking, traction control, electronic stability control, hill-start assist control, pedestrian warning system and a tire pressure monitoring system.
Active safety is just as important, with the Soul available with a range of advanced driver-assistance systems, depending on market. Available systems include Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind Spot Collision Warning (BSW), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (available) and Reverse Parking Distance Warning.
Unique to the Soul EV is a revamped ‘UVO’ telematics system, allowing owners to monitor and control a long range of vehicle operations. Drivers have access to notifications of battery and charging status, real-time charging station updates and scheduled charging functionality. Panic notifications enable the vehicle to send an alert to the server if the panic alarm is triggered, dialling emergency services and providing the car’s position via GPS – this opens a live microphone so that emergency workers can communicate with vehicle occupants. The UVO telematics systems also offers ‘Send2Car’ points of interest (POI) and waypoint functionality, allowing owners to plan a route or road trip with waypoints, and send it directly to the Soul EV’s navigation system.
Buyers in some European countries can choose from two trims*, the Soul EV and the Soul EV Designer Collection. Commensurate with its elevated status within the Soul EV line-up, the Designer Collection model offers everything from the standard Soul EV, plus a series of additional features. These include a two-tone exterior paint scheme (Gravity Grey with a Platinum Gold roof, Cherry Black with an Inferno Red roof, or Neptune Blue with a Cherry Black roof), as well as power-folding heated, power-adjustable door mirrors with signal repeater, finished in gloss-black. Inside, Designer Collection models feature a 10-speaker Harman-Kardon premium audio system with external amplifier, a wireless phone charger and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. A leather-wrapped steering wheel completes the interior, alongside heated front seats trimmed in Sofino® premium non-animal seating upholstery.
Made in Korea and on-sale in Europe in 2019 Built at the Gwangju plant in Korea, the new Soul EV goes on sale in the US and Europe in the first half of 2019, with Kia’s global markets to follow. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
Information regarding the all-New Soul EV’s price, specification and on-sale date in the UK will be distributed later in 2019.
