We’re rumbling into 1996.

Spoilers for past Rumbles.

Sunny, from her bathtub, warns us viewer indiscretion is advised. The Attitude Era doesn’t officially begin until 1997 but hints of it began way back in 1995 with the Pamela Anderson skit and continues with Sunny’s vignettes.

The undercard:

Jeff Jarrett vs Ahmed Johnson. Meh.

The Bodydonnas (Chris Candido/Tom Prichard, accompanied by Sunny) vs the Smoking Guns (Billy & Bart) for the WWF Tag Team titles. More meh.

Recap of the Razor Ramon – Goldust feud. Mr Machismo doesn’t appreciate Golddust’s flirtations.

Golddust (accompanied by Marlena) vs Razor Ramon for the Intercontinental title. Was this Terri Runnel’s debut for the WWF? The commentators refer to Marlena as an “unknown woman”. Golddust and Marlena’s gimmicks are forerunners to the Attitude Era. Marlena causes a distraction as the 1-2-3 Kid attacks Razor, allowing Dustin to pin Ramon and become the new Intercontinental champion.

Vader does the “eliminate everyone” spot but as he was previously eliminated none of his eliminations count.

Lawler is the first participant in a Rumble to hide under the ring.

1996 is the first year all participants receive entrance music. Finally! A small thing but it adds to the presentation.

The pay-per-view ends with Bret Hart vs the Undertaker (accompanied by Paul Bearer).   Diesel causes a disqualification, costing Taker the match. The match was fine but I’m not a fan of Taker.

Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Dude Love compete for the WWE Championship in a No Disqualification Falls Count Anywhere Match with Mr. McMahon as special guest referee. The Nation faces D-Generation X in a six-man tag team match. The Rock defends the Intercontinental Championship against Faarooq. Kane faces Vader in a Mask vs. Mask match and more.

News & Notes: Would Mr. McMahon fire Austin after the events of Unforgiven? No, that was too good for him. Vince wanted to teach Steve a lesson. He made Stone Cold defend his belt against Goldust with Brisco as the ref. If Austin touched Gerald, Vince would fire him. This annoyed Dude Love, so he interfered. In the chaos, McMahon hit Brisco with the title belt by mistake. The next week, a confused Mick Foley appeared as himself. If Dude wasn’t good enough for Vince, who could he be? Mr. McMahon motivated Foley by booking him against Terry Funk in a No Holds Barred fight. If Mick tore out the heart of his mentor, Vince would accept him back. Mick fought a hard battle and won. After the bout, Mick shared a moment with Stone Cold. However, Foley returned to McMahon with open arms and once again donned the Dude Love persona. What happened next? I’ll explain in the match notes.

Meanwhile, DX invaded an episode of WCW Nitro. They drove a jeep (not a tank) to WCW’s arena and approached the door. WCW security wouldn’t let them inside. DX claimed their friends were hostages. No matter how hard they knocked on the gate, they gained no entry. So they interviewed the fans on the street instead. Some claimed they received free tickets to the show. The following week, DX infiltrated the CNN Center. They wanted to speak with Ted Turner, but he wasn’t there. DX filmed as much footage inside as they could, but the security made them leave.

In other news, The Artist Formerly Known as Goldust had enough. McMahon using him as a pawn broke Goldust. He burned his gear and vowed to never use the disgusting gimmick again. He was now using his real name, Dustin Runnels. This led Vince to book him in a bout with Dude Love. If Runnels lost, he must work without pay for a month. Patterson screwed Dustin out of a victory. Next, Al Snow and Head arrived! Al’s on a mission to meet with McMahon and get a contract. Snow even convinced Lawler to sneak him into the building. Jerry promised him a meeting if Snow protected Lawler from wrestler attacks. (I’ll explain later.) Snow patrolled the audience until he realized Jerry lied to him. When he confronted The King, security threw Snow out. Then we have a new group in the WWF. Jackyl introduced his Human Oddities. Some of these were Howard Stern’s Wack Pack. He also had two wrestlers, Golga & Giant Silva. Golga is Earthquake under a mask. The Giant Silva is a large wrestler from Mexico. Jackyl also adds Kurrgan to the mix. Since Goldust kicked Luna to the curb, she joined The Oddities as a manager. Finally, the WWF aired vignettes for Edge. He’s a brooding man in a trench coat. Edge runs screaming through subway stations. A mysterious voice says, “You think you know me?” Who is this enigmatic man?

Your Woman Crush for this Week is Brandi Rhodes!

The 35 year old pro wrestler and wrestling manager is part of the legendary Rhodes family, alongside her husband Cody, brother-in-law Dustin, ex-sister-in-law Terri Runnels and of course her dearly departed father-in-law Dusty.

She got her start as an interviewer and ring announcer for the WWE, where she met Cody.  She and her husband left the company and started working for IMPACT Wrestling and Ring of Honor Wrestling, where Brandi started wrestling. 

She’s loosely attached to the Bullet Club, often joining her husband to the ring for various major wrestling promotions, including New Japan Pro Wrestling. 

Since joining Ring of Honor, she’s joined the Women of Honor roster and has competed for the ROH Women’s Championship.  She’s also began wrestling for Japan’s most touted women’s fed, World Wonder Ring Stardom. 

She’s developing as an in ring worker, she’s incredibly charismatic, and of course stunningly beautiful; so for all these reasons and more, she’s your Woman Crush for the Week!

Goldust calls it quits with his wife, Terri Runnels [November 3rd, 1997]

This is the first time watching wrestling that I can remember ever feeling true emotions. Not just excitement, or fear, or awe, but where I actually sat down, paid very close attention, and took the time to understand what I was seeing. Goldust, who had been in the WWF for two years at this point with Marlena by his side, splits up with his wife on national television. This came to pass after a long storyline where Marlena was forced to spend 30 days with Brian Pillman, a man who had feuded with Goldust and whom Marlena had dated many years prior while the two were in WCW. After returning to the side of her husband, Marlena speaks with Jim Ross and with Dustin by her side about how life is back to normal... but what she doesn’t realize is that Dustin isn’t as happy as she is.

In the video, Dustin speaks about finding “someone else” who understands him, who lets him be who he wants to be. Who that wound up being was Luna Vachon, and what became of Goldust was something out of the pages of MAD Magazine. Goldust became The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust, a creature-like madman who mirrored the likes of Marilyn Manson after a weekend on acid. This led to several entertaining and bizarre segments, and a feud was born between Goldust & Luna and the husband/wife duo of Marc Mero & Sable.

Former professional wrestler Terri Runnels was arrested in Florida for allegedly carrying a concealed firearm into an airport. According to booking information from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the arrest occurred Wednesday morning at the Tampa International Airport with airport police as the arresting agency. The charge is classified as a class three felony. A police report obtained says the firearm was a loaded Glock 26 9mm handgun. Police intervened after a Transportation Security Administration agent detected the gun in Runnel's bags at a security checkpoint. According to the report, Runnels said she forgot the gun was there and admitted to not having a concealed weapons permit. Runnels said she forgot to remove the gun from her bag after she used it to get rid of an armadillo that was digging up her mother's yard, the report says. She was released the same day on a $2,000 bond, according to the sherrif's office. Runnels, 52, is known for her time with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). During her time wrestling, she used stage names Alexandra York and Marlena. She was married to fellow wrestler Dustin Runnels, whose stage name is Goldust, from 1993 to 1999.

I legit laughed seeing the heart ' tattoo ' on her finger . Know who else had a heart tattoo on her finger , Terri Runnels / Marlena back when she was married to Dustin Rhodes / Runnels aka Goldust . Guess how their marriage worked out ... Oh wait , it didn't . They're divorced . Btw , no tattoo has to be permanent anymore . Not with Lazer removal , a good tattoo artist to cover it ... Or in Dean's case , time & alcohol . Which is probably similar to how he got himself into this mess , lol
