ICQE 2025
Responsibility for Energy, Quantum, and the Future of Intelligence: ICQE 2025
The International Conference on Quantum and Energy (ICQE) 2025 brought together scientists, founders, policymakers, and technologists in Padua, a scientific city. The discussion focused on “What will it take to fuel the future of intelligence?”
The conference addressed the energy needs of future technologies, especially  artificial intelligence (AI), and explored how quantum technologies can help power this exponential growth without depleting the planet's energy infrastructure. ICQE 2025 anticipated the future would be created and asked if quantum might reduce energy demand.
The conference co-chair, Francesco Campaioli, stressed that “The cost of intelligence will ultimately be defined by the cost of energy.” He stressed that quantum technologies will be used to build future infrastructure, thus they must not reproduce exploitative tendencies. The seminar stressed sustainability in quantum technology development. A unified vision that balances scientific advancement with social and ecological responsibility requires multidisciplinary collaboration beyond specific knowledge.
See also QSC-Diffusion Models In Generative AI and Image Synthesis.
Energy System Quantum Role Three primary areas where quantum technology and energy intersected to potentially alleviate the AI-driven energy crisis and computational arms race were discussed at ICQE 2025:
Basic Understanding:
Quantum research deepens our understanding of physical phenomena and offers new, more effective, and fundamentally different heat management, dissipation, and control methods than previous designs. This is influencing quantum engine, thermodynamic protocol, and next-generation cooling ideas.
Efficient computation:
Quantum computing may improve environmental information processing. Certain efficient AI tasks could be offloaded from high-power GPUs to quantum processors because AI uses infinite energy. This ethic encourages sustainability and scalability.
Discovery of Materials
Finding, comprehending, and producing novel materials is aided by quantum sensing and modelling. Direct modelling and modification of quantum characteristics may speed up energy innovation in photovoltaics, solid-state batteries, and hydrogen catalysts. More clean materials would be available faster.
Quantum may not solve the energy dilemma, but intentional development, application, and expansion may make it one of its most powerful tools.
Signals from Italy:
A National Quantum Strategy At the conference, Italy presented its National Quantum Strategy for later this year. This created the Padua-based Italian Quantum Alliance. Italy's quantum science and technology are built by universities, research, and industry. Italy views quantum as a major scientific initiative that could impact energy, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and competitiveness.

Scientific Highlights Several ICQE 2025 presentations showed the field's scientific breadth and transdisciplinary rigour:
Cristiane Koch of Freie Universität Berlin developed a generic new way for cooling many-body quantum systems, needed for scalable quantum technology. This approach extracts energy by repeatedly coupling and resetting auxiliary qubits without system knowledge.
Jeremy Stevens (Alice & Bob) developed a power utilisation framework and showed compatibility with microwave and cryogenic equipment for superconducting cat qubits' energy efficiency.
Filippo Vicentini (École Polytechnique) noted that neural network-based variational methods for quantum simulation, especially for the quantum many-body problem, can outperform conventional methods despite rising entanglement.
Beatrice Donelli of CNR-INO Istituto Nazionale di Ottica presented a spin network-based quantum battery charging protocol that exploits quantum phase transitions for super-extensive precision. She optimised D-Wave Advantage quantum annealer performance utilising cooperative protocols.
Beatriz Polo Rodríguez (ICFO Barcelona) suggested the ergotropic gap as a potential entanglement witness, eliminating the requirement for costly quantum tomography. In Gaussian states, thermodynamic measures like energy and work can show quantum entanglement, she said.
ICQE 2025 represented the current and future ambitions of quantum technologies by displaying the critical issue of ensuring that increasing intelligence does not exceed the understanding needed to employ it. If technology and serious talks are used, energy may be the price of advancement without being the price of everything else, according to the conference. To accept that knowledge is technological, ethical, ecological, and fundamentally human, deliberate, multidisciplinary locations that are not afraid of complexity were stressed.

Big fan of the part in Dungeon Meshi when the gang is beset by dopplegangers and they try to reason out who the fakes are if they seem More Attractive (to appeal to the other party members) except it doesn't work for Senshi because the two other guys in the party already think he's Maximum Sexy.

RPG Idea
A typical old-school logistics-focused get-treasure-from-dungeon game, except it really puts its money where its mouth is about combat being an undesirable last resort because those killed in battle rise as undead if not given proper burials, and (just as in real life) digging one grave takes eight man-hours of labor.

one more thing on moby dick. i'm drawing a lot of inspo for the sixth house since my take on them is very... maritime put it mildly lol
before the novel I already had this idea of them being part of the whale trade in the sea of ghosts (plus beached whales that wash up on vvardenfell being revered and saving entire villages from starvation during famine times etc). whale bones being used for the decoration etc
but I hadn't considered the commodity factor yet. harvesting and refining whale blubber for fuel (oil lamps! I had them using torches and candles before lol) + soap + lubricant
the latter being EXTREMELY important for the dwemer industry - essentially I'm just going to go with the idea that this is one of the things they had to import from the surface because there was no underground substitute nor a synthetic version
so this further expands their trade relationship and provides an explanation as to why the sixth house had super advanced naval tech that no one else had - because the dwemer needed them 👍

hey adam from Adam and Eve. wtf are you doing here
one of the little fic quirks that makes me laugh every time is when authors forget they’re writing in a universe that doesn’t have Christianity and the characters still use those curses

D-Wave Quantum News Stock Rises 1300% in 12 Months
Tumblr media
D-Wave Quantum News
Zacks analyst blog highlights Rigetti, IBM, IonQ, and D-wave quantum computing.
Investors are interested in D-Wave Quantum because to its 1359.5% share price growth over the past year. This remarkable gain has been fueled by the company's good quarterly financial results, the AI-driven infrastructure boom, and rising quantum technology demand.
The recent quantum computational superiority of D-Wave boosts its confidence and commercial differentiation. In the first quarter of 2025, D-Wave solved a real-world materials science problem and published results in Science. A top-tier classical supercomputer would have needed a million years and more energy than the world to solve a problem D-Wave's 1,200-qubit Advantage2 prototype solved in a year. IonQ and Rigetti Computing, which are unprofitable, behind D-Wave.
Annealing quantum computing, a subfield of computing that is ideal for combinatorial and optimisation tasks, is D-Wave's specialisation. The growing range of production applications shows that D-Wave devices are instant-deployable. Unlike many of its competitors, which focus on gate-based approaches in development.
D-Wave Quantum appears financially stable, which will help it profit. The corporation had a record $304.3 million cash balance in the first quarter of 2025. The quarter's $146.2 million nett proceeds from its third At-The-Market (ATM) issuance strengthened its financial position.
D-Wave's management is confident that this large cash reserve will fund operations until profitability, making the company one of the most capital-efficient in quantum computing. Technology helps D-Wave Quantum succeed. The market trusts the company's financial health and future prospects because its 50-day SMA routinely exceeds its 200-day SMA. D-Wave Quantum's second-quarter and full-year 2025 earnings are expected to rise 72% and 30%, respectively, according to Zacks.
The audacious quantum computing project by IBM has renewed competition. IBM's new Quantum Starling, a large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer that can perform 20,000 times more operations than existing machines, challenges the market. In its broad roadmap, IBM plans to provide modular scalability and fault tolerance by the end of the decade. IBM's planned move demonstrates its long-term ambition of leading corporate quantum technology, but also raises problems for smaller startups like D-Wave Quantum.
D-Wave Quantum appears to be able to withstand competition even with IBM's renewed effort. The company's singular achievement of real-world quantum supremacy, confirmed by a peer-reviewed Science paper, distinguishes it from competitors that focus on gate-based systems with fewer commercial deployments. D-Wave's production-ready annealing solutions are already targeting a bigger market, so IBM's large quantum technology investment is intriguing.
Zacks.com believes that D-Wave has a large growth runway despite IBM's quantum race entry. D-Wave Quantum may provide longer-term investors more upside due to its strong first-quarter 2025 performance, rising business usage, and Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
To conclude
This June 2025 Zacks Analyst Blog highlights D-Wave Quantum (QBTS) and IBM, two quantum computer companies seeing tremendous growth. D-Wave's stock performance and quantum dominance in addressing a difficult materials science problem set it apart from rivals like IonQ and Rigetti Computing. IBM's planned effort to join quantum computing's next step with Quantum Starling may make it difficult for smaller firms like D-Wave to compete.
Even while IBM's developments demonstrate the market's promise, the blog believes D-Wave's unique annealing technology, stable financial position, and recent operational successes position it for growth despite increased competition. The research concludes that D-Wave's fundamentals and market position suggest more upside.

I just know that at least one time each bilbo and thorin proposed to each other in the quest
Of course they don't know this because how could thorin know that giving an specific flower to bilbo meant he was in love with him or that asking to go for a walk in a green field was a traditional form of beggining courtship
But it was when bilbo asked thorin to show him how to engrave or to braid his longer hair that all the dwaves looked over them with silly looks (especially kili and fili)
A very confused bilbo with a red tomato king by his side was really funny, except for gandalf who was tired of their bs

Beauty and the Beast Bagginshield
I’m thinking of doing an AU/canon divergence of Bagginshield with the core of Beauty and The Beast.
Thorin/the line of Durin have been cursed to become a monster and the other lonely mountain dwarves turn more and more into gold. Otherwise the story is basically the same as the books/movies.
Now I’m thinking of situations that might differ from the original story due to their situation. Like Beorn could potentially be acting different towards these “Monsters” instead of “just Dwaves”.
Btw. Their goal is to “find a treasure worth more than the Arkenstone” instead of “steal the Arkenstone/reclaim the Lonely Mountain”.
What do you guys think?

Do we know anything about dwarven technology and/or magic? They are said to have the lowest magical potential, but I remember a picture of dwaves using a stationary phone of some kind and it seemed like there was an undine in one of the mechanisms and a dwarf having ancient magic markings in daydream portraits. They seem to have a lot of technology and magic things going on, but I can't find any info on it.
We only see a little bit of it, I was also wondering about what seems like magic tattoos in the dwarf page, perhaps is another type of tattoo instead? Or maybe it has to do with why that dwarf has a strange look on his face
Tumblr media
The other one with similar head tattoos has half of his body burnt
Tumblr media
Could be a warrior thing? I don't think it's the same as the magic ones, they canonically have the lowest mana reserve so I doubt they can use much magic if at all?
The tech they use seem to have to do with the ancient war when apparently there was a tech boom, but most of it apparently was buried along with dungeons.

We only see these important guys messing with something similar

So what is up with Korilla? Is she a voluntary servant of Raphael's or involuntary [due to him having her sister]? If you catch Korilla spying on you & manage to speak to her, she sounds brainwashed. What is it R wants from the two sisters?
Hope and Korrilla
I'm so glad you asked! Because I now have a little theory on it. I've started reading Brimstone Angels by Erin M. Evans (who is also a former editor for Wizards of the Coast) because it was recommended to me by @hellish-kiss (thank you <3). I'm only on the first book. I like it so far and there is a bunch of devil and cambion stuff in there.
In her books, cambions and devils have a tendency to collect 'sets' of warlocks. It's focused a lot on bloodlines, so a devil would collect warlocks of interesting bloodlines or siblings, and it's this huge thing in the books.
It made me wonder if that could be the thing with Hope and Korrilla. They could be the descendants of someone interesting, or it could just be that Raphael wants to have both of them because they are siblings.
Raphael is obviously more obsessed with Hope, but I think he might have hoped (ha-ha) from the start to get both of them. In a way it makes perfect sense. It's easier to control people when one of their family members might be in trouble too if you rebel against them.
Also...
Hope is a life domain cleric. The obvious deity would be Moradin, who is a lawful good god of dwaves, but we aren't really told. Keep that in mind for now.
Korrilla says that she had an "old dwarven master" who "beat her and fed her scraps" and then follows that up with "better to feast in the Hells than go begging to the Heavens".
Interestingly, it's said that Moradin's clerics are drawn from family lines, which mean that both Korrilla and Hope might have been Moradin clerics before. He is also described as such:
"He was gruff, stern and virtually incapable of compromise, tirelessly and unflinchingly defending his people, their values, and his principles of good and law. While a good heart was necessary for his acceptance, only quality results earned his approval."
What if Moradin is who Korrilla refers to as her old master? He does sound like someone who really demands a lot from his clerics, and Korrilla might've never been enough for him, which would make one bitter and start looking elsewhere. It would also further make her unable to understand why her sister won't give in, because she sees it as hopeless because Moradin doesn't do shit for them (and can't do shit when they are both in the Hells), but Raphael does.
I think Korrilla really does like working for Raphael, and from Raphael's point of view, they are both the perfect targets. Because clerics of Moradin is a bloodline thing, Korrilla and Hope might have been groomed from the start of their lives to follow a someone who is hard to please and gives little in return, and people like that make excellent employees. Not to mention the irony of Hope's name and the fact that he gets to corrupt two clerics. Win-win-win.
Korrilla might sound brainwashed, but if you have gone your entire life and "begged for scraps in the Heavens", the alternative that Raphael has given them is a hundred times better, because he does actually give her something. Even Raphael says somewhere in one of his books that he has barely ever been forced to punish Korrilla because she is just a model warlock and good at listening.
(Thank you for the ask <3 And good timing. I actually wanted to make a post about this eventually.)
