the party + social media headcanons

mike would be a twitch streamer. certified #gaymer that'll play pretty much anything. malds real fucking bad (but not in a serious, toxic way just in a funny he's a sore loser that gets dunked on way) and gets baited by his chat all the time. definitely had a moment like this and when disaster struck he just immediately ended the fucking stream lmao. he let his chat bully him into the heart rate monitor challenge exactly one time and never again because they wouldn't stop teasing him over how it went up whenever will teased him during a multi-player game. he plays with the party a lot, but people are always asking will and max to come on because they loooove will and love how max roasts the shit out of him. will drew/made his subscriber emotes ofc. on his just chatting days they'll rank things, discuss the latest star wars hot topic, or talk about movies and the art of storytelling.

dustin mostly posts on youtube. he makes videos showcasing his peculiar inventions, some of which are actually really cool engineering feats and others are more like that of the "unnecessary inventions" guy's work. he's always super happy and excited about whatever he's doing and it's really contagious. he always explains everything thoroughly and titles his videos like so: SUPER COOL TITLE HERE (REAL) (NOT CLICKBAIT!). he includes a blooper reel at the end with the jokes that (rightfully) didn't make the cut.

will is an art (+gaming ofc) streamer! he streams himself drawing on twitch and it's really laid back. he'll be working away while the chat-created playlist plays in the background, looking up intermittently to see what people are saying. people like to donate or use their points to say silly things / use any of the sound effects to get his attention. he uses the Good, Professional footage to make a timelapsed video for his youtube, because twitch is just for chilling. stream titles are something like "draw with me!", "boys night", "it's a paint kind of day", or "parallel play? on MY stream? it's more likely than you think". mike hangs around a lot and el lurks. he always says hi to people and tries to answer as many of his chatters as he can. when he games he LOVES to play horror games in the dark, especially the shitty ones. he gets lots of views on those. but he plays mostly anything, too! like nintendo speedruns or he'll play smash with his viewers. he also vlogs sometimes for his youtube. just amasses little clips throughout the week or month or whatever and tosses them together for fun and to work on his more creative editing skills. he goes through his banned list on twitch and lets the community decide if they get unbanned or not like it's a court trial or something lmao.

lucas is an instagram baddie. he doesn't even try to be one, he just is. gets hella fucking likes and comments including these emojis: 😳🫠😍🔥. writes really sweet captions. makes stupid fucking bank on ads and promos. likes to post really embarrassing zoomed-in pictures of mike and dustin on his story when they hang out, then one of himself to even it out. you already Know he's got hella selfies with max and candid shots of her<3. he and will do cute poses whenever they snap a pic together, and there's a really cute snap of lucas and the twins where their cheeks are all squished together n they're cheesin' real hard (it was them out and about downtown). has a video where he makes a shot with his back turned and the entire party's going crazy cheering, shaking him, screaming, etc etc.

max would explode my head with her mind if she heard me say this, but she's also an instagram user. she posts lots of videos of her skating. she'll post her landing a new trick and then the 3984039 times she wiped out beforehand. also takes pics of her favorite tagger's (zombie boy) work. posts selfies where she's all scraped up after wiping out or where she's got a hello kitty band-aid on her face (courtesy of el, of course). a lot of her pictures are more artsy, like instead of taking a selfie, she'll take a picture of your shoes side by side, blurry candids of whoever she's hanging out with, or pictures of places she's been. doesn't always caption them, because she likes to be mysterious. replies to the party's comments and not very many other people's.

el is mostly the girl behind the camera. she takes a lot of max's videos and pictures, helps will set up his camera when he's doing a rare tutorial, and helps mike decide which picture to use whenever he posts something. still, she does her own thing, too! she loves to post her crafts on instagram and twitter. she makes jewelry and trinkets to sell on etsy. always takes pictures of her food, her good outfits, and herself. :) her instagram has a theme and she posts updates on twitter. she always likes the party's posts and comments on them. if she's lurking on someone's stream, she'll take a picture of her screen and text it to them with a random emoji. she also posts a lot of pictures of her friends with captions so sweet they'll make your teeth rot. she likes to take the party's phones and sneak a silly selfie of herself and never tell them about it lmao. takes a super zoomed in picture of you when you're not looking and texts it to you with "hi :)" attached.

they fucking DOMINATE at codenames, but e|max did sweep the floor with them in two rounds once which they claim was bc of cheating.

In 2014, Google’s Matt Cutts announced via Twitter that the company had refreshed its Page Layout Algorithm.

The Page Layout Algorithm downgraded the ranking of webpages with too many ads at the top or if the ads are deemed too distracting for users.

This was the third confirmed update to the algorithm, which launched Jan. 19, 2012 and was updated Oct. 9, 2012.

2. In his youth, Lovecraft was completely devoted to a black cat that he named for a derisive curse word.

When it ran away, Howard never again owned another pet.

But, HPL did express his respect for cats thruout his works.

This particular book contains all of Lovecraft's writings about such brave & "superior" felines.

The book includes excerpts from Howard's letters on Old Man (an incredibly ancient street cat that HPL met), his friends's pets, the felines of "Kappa Alpha Tau" (near his home), a cat poem by 1 of his friends, etc...

The book's illustrated by Jason C. Eckhardt, whose drawings have graced Lovecraftian publications for many decades.

Highly collectible but, buy the book to read it...

3. Lovecraft & his racially named cat?

There's a story going around that when his cat fell asleep on his lap, Howard would stop typing so as not to disturb his little Lovecraftian Spawn!

But, this same story was told, earlier, about the Prophet Muhammad...

The following is a summarized version of Philips A. Ellis's article in Lovecraft Annual #4 in 2010.

"Most critics like to gather these 4 separate verses together into 1 poem. But, they are, in truth, 4 disjointed - if related - works."

"Ad Criticos is from the beginning of Lovecraft's poetic 'career.' And, indeed is actually responsible for that career - as it enabled Howard to be noticed by the UAPA."

"Critics divide HPL's poetic timeline into 2 parts."

"The 1st phase is marked by Howard's use of old English words & old poetic 'structures' - heroic couplets being his favorite."

"These early works coincide, mostly, with Lovecraft's classical period."

"The letters all focus on attacking Jackson & Russell. HPL makes both men into figures of 'fun'..."

"But, even Jackson's supporters are mocked & debased by Howard."

"An Elizabeth E. Lisop comes under attack for her 'inability' to handle more than simple English..."

"All because she objects to Lovecraft's odd vocabulary & his use of, in particular, labyrinthe, lucubrations, luminary, laureled, etc."

"HPL hoped that his satiric barbs on that person's intelligence will over- whelm them into silence."

General Look at Howard's Letters:

Lovecraft's missives, in total, are actually more lengthy than all of his literary output!

So, critics are far more interested in HPL's massive mailings (usually over 10 pages long - for each writer to him!!) than his famous tales!

It helps that Howard wrote informal, witty, frank & smart-alecky letters about his life & writing habits.

Lovecraft's range of subjects ran thru various interests in politics, history, science, literature, architecture, travel, food, criticism, writing advice, etc...

Once, it was thought that HPL's messages ran over 100,000 separate items.

But now, we know that only some 65,000 of Howard's letters survived the eons...

Many folk destroyed their collections of Lovecraft's missives for a variety of reasons.

Sad.

Yet, new discoveries are being made every day...

But, we might never find all of HPL's messages - unless I could borrow someone's time machine!!

September 17: Latest Writing Thoughts

Sigh. Okay. So. I don’t really want to look around at the ruined wreckage of this weekend because I’m tired of that and also it’s depressing and I feel guilty. Also the next couple of days are going to be really hard and I just am nervous and overwhelmed about them. I just don’t want to deal with literally anything!

Instead I will look at the ruined wreckage of me trying to write! This longfic is getting really tough and I’m judging myself for thinking I could write this ‘fast’ and ‘it won’t be that hard.’ I sort of want to take a break but I also think that would be a horrible idea because then I’d have to get back into it later. Also I’ve already taken/been taking a break and it’s definitely making it harder and not easier. It’s just tough to keep everything straight now that it’s getting so long and it’s tough to do the repeat-scenes that are part of the time loop and I’m also, not gonna lie, just getting tired of it. Like I want to write something totally different, different setting, mood, etc.

I did write a scene today. It took me a long time to work up the courage to do it and it was only the one and I’m not sure how I feel about it (the desire to post the beginning just to maybe get feedback is so strong but I’m resisting! I’m resisting!!). It felt like a struggle. A part of me… sort of wants to re-write it but it also doesn’t feel worth it. I would rather say good enough and move on than get bogged down in retreading something I’ve already done. I’m also way too close to it at this exact moment to make that call but like that’s where I am emotionally. I don’t hate all of it but I don’t like the pacing. It feels forced, slow, choppy, and OOC.

…Okay, I’ve read it again and there’s only one sub-section of the scene, actually pretty small, while I faltered and slowed it down too much. I think I can fix this in editing. I still don’t love the scene but like… this fic is really long, friends. It’s long. I’m serious about how long it is. So, it’s not all going to be flawless.

In terms of other ideas, other stuff I’ve been thinking about. I definitely want to do Troped Halloween but I haven’t thought too much about that yet (a problem). Same for my Halloween ficlets. I am INSISTENT I do them again this year after a break of several years. And honestly… the time to start brainstorming seriously is now. But I haven’t done that either.

That pic of Jarod Joseph and Jon Whitesell from a week or two ago like burned itself into my brain and I’ve been thinking about Miller projects. He’s not in the current fic, he’s only mentioned in SGAU, and it’s just generally been a while since I really used him in anything. I was re-reading some old ficlets, thinking about favorite headcanons and the particular ideas I kept coming back to… won’t lie they all still intrigue and interest me, even now. I’ve been thinking about adding to Press Play (not even something on the WIP list!!! What is wrong with me???), thinking a very little about the Ark AU and about the old Chopped/Troped time loop fic that I want to reconfigure as not a time loop but don’t know how, and, as I mentioned yesterday, the Miller/Bellamy road trip fic that just grows in scope every time I look at it. Even though I’m so notoriously bad at actually writing chapter fics or longfics! I mean hell one-shots take me long enough!

So, that’s what’s on my mind. I am trying to be optimistic. I know I say that every week and they all just pummel me and nothing ever gets better. But I will keep trying. I have some vacation days I need to use up so I’ll be taking some long weekends in the near future. I hope that, plus maybe some cooler temperatures (please for the love of God let it get cooler), will maybe help me get myself together, personally and creatively.

As a teacher I’ve been being trained on the HORRORS of the latest AI because our students might “no longer think” and just “type in a prompt.” First off, I can say with confidence these kids don’t even know where to BEGIN typing in the right prompt to get them what they need. But even for those that might, it’s not a 1-2-3 and you’re done game. Here’s some album art I made with DALL-E2. It took tons of reworking prompts to be more specific, or more broad, choosing variations, to guide, and sometimes starting all over again. 

Pic 1 if I recall (it was a few weeks ago) I believe I just put in something like “Ska album cover” and took it from there by adding extra things like “checkers.” 

Pic 2 I was plesantly surprised with. We actually used this as the art for our last cover (with some tweaks in photoshop of course). Here my promps were “NFC spray painted on train,” “spray paint needs to be orange” “must contain only letters NFC,” so on and on.

Pic 3 started with “Ska band,” I got creepy looking people, so moved on to ska album with checkers, chose some variations and made some edits and got that, which is pretty weird...

Pic 4 was “ska band with horns tripping on acid”

Pic 5 was ska band in the style of Andy Warhol (giving them an artist to work from works realllly well, which is prob why my graffiti one wasn’t so hard). Then I asked it to make it punk ska with checkered shirts. Oila! 

It’s fun, but cumbersome. If you have a specific idea in mind, I’d honestly stick to the old fashioned hire someone who can actually give you a product method.
