"In Bloom" by P. Tremblay brings the Blob back to horrible life - or does he?!

A journalist is writing about algal blooms around Cape Cod. She's doing research interviews on the July, 1983 Orleans' tragedy...

Water temps are 10° hotter than 15 years ago.

And, Jimmy Lang has a weird story to tell - but she likes to find the truth in such tales.

At Boland Pond, his father had tried to rescue a drowning boy - when their skins erupted, bubbling into ugly rashes!

Jimmy couldn't help as he felt too lightheaded & vomited...

"Drunk on smoke", he finds himself connected to his demanding father - regressing thru a "wormy hive mind" into a "singular sentience"!!

Suddenly, the algae choked water rises to a colorful wave & smashed into his dad - it carried the man "across the ballfield, a street, some woods & into a saltwater marsh"...

The connection of shared thoughts is cut off & his father is never found again.

Since nobody else saw this blob, Lang thought that he had hallucinated the entire course of events.

Later, on the Sagamore Bridge, the journalist is stuck in a traffic crawl - when suddenly, she senses something weird on the wind.

And she reacts with a trapped animal panic!

Right behind her, she sees something green rise to a wave crest & crash onto the bridge - clearing it of cars!!

40 feet is deep enough to hide... Things.

Algae are the most successful of microorganisms - even living under extreme pressures & dangerous niches.

Photoautotrophs created the conditions that allows evolution to 'work' & oxygenated our atmosphere.

They still fill vital ecological functions today, like keeping the planet's carbon & nitrogen 'budgets' balanced...

But, they produce toxins that can kill animals - including human beings. And, heavy blooms create airborne miasmas that cause hallucinations...

In the end, this story leaves readers wondering - as it provides few concrete answers.

1. Rump's tariffs are an extra tax on Americans.

2. But, it's led to disrupted supply chains.

3. This led to Canada reshoring its metal cans.

4. Which means thousands of US jobs are now lost.

5. Canada is also welcoming medics, researchers & promising students leading to a US Brain Drain.

6. The Northeast depends on Canadian power, so interruptions there poses problems for data hubs & AI development.

7. When China stopped selling the US its rare earth minerals, Ontario became our next supplier - its Rump's true reason for wanting a Canadian 51st state...

8. US travel & tourism is seeing large downturns. Vermont & NYC both saw a 45% drop in hotel bookings.

9. Because Canada is now promoting visits to Ontario & Nova Scotia instead.

There's a real sense of betrayal in Canada right now - one that might take decades to heal.

It's a daily challenge to deal with Republikkkan hatred, their ingrained stupidity & the damaging policies these Nazis like most...

The perfect people needed to rebuild our Democratic government, reedit the details of our Constitutional rights & with focus on who can actually be our leaders.

Think of it as an updating of 250 year old rules on running our country for its citizens' benefit - definitely not a kingdom.

Hopefully, we'll teach & then test the proper presidential candidates & put in yearly televised reviews off how they're doing.

And, the penalties - including being thrown out - voted on by citizens!!

That would truly make us your bosses.

I have my own answer to his opening statement.

Far Right Wing Conservatives spent decades building up their media empire.

Using money from rich folk who bought the GOP outright.

This allowed the Republikkkans to unite casinos, corporations, think tanks, billionaires & patriarchal Christianity together.

All in a bid to control the whole US government & use it for their own ends.

And, they've done exactly that - even though voters were forewarned of the coming repercussions...

Democrats now find themselves with little money donors & little power as well.

With mostly the full backing of rich George Soros, Dems have little will to respond in kind to the Reps' outright crimes...

The GOP's lying strategy has become a reality defying, but winning, formula.

So, how to defeat MAGA?

Their own people are slowly waking up, to a disaster they didn't want to happen - to themselves...

Due to a few Dem firebrands, citizens are now waking up to the dangerous consequences of their votes.

Hopefully, the Mid-Term elections will bring these people out in droves.

Thanks to an advanced genome data- base & a computer study, scientists found fresh insights on how these viruses grow & spread.

These protists (algae, amoeba & flagellates) are human health hazards & are known to kill phytoplankton (tiny photosynthesizers found in most waters & they produce most of Earth's oxygen)...

569 new proteins were also found out - 9 of which hijack their hosts' own photosynthesizing functions!

This allows the viruses to steal the energy they need to survive... Such proteins & genes are usually only found in multicellular organisms.

These viruses use infection vectors.

Which indicates a more complex strategy that allows them to survive in a wider variety of hosts!

We've only scratched the surface when studying the oceans...

Each drop of seawater teems with viruses & other microbial life - some of which help protect us from the more dangerous microbes.

There's still countless marine life to be cataloged &, to be out in context with our health...
