what kinda music would the eds like?
oh dude
you'll be shocked to learn that all their tastes are based on my own.
to me eddy is a big Music Enjoyer™ and i think he goes through phases, but his overall taste is expansive. he's is obviously into disco - abba, sylvester, bee gees, EWF, kool and the gang, barry white. i see him enjoying old funk/soul/r&b - bootsy collins, the gap band, chaka khan, curtis mayfield, patrice rushen. pop/country oldies - nancy sinatra, dusty springfield, patsy cline, brenda lee, peggy lee, loretta lynn. 40s, 50s & 60s girl groups cuz that's what his mom likes- andrews sisters, mcguire sisters, ronettes, marvelettes, etc. 80s dance - the egyptian lover, pretty tony, debbie deb, newcleus, loose ends, madonna. 90s house and dance - crystal waters, la bouche, lisa stansfield, robin s, real mccoy. other 90s pop - aaliyah, britney, sugar ray, backstreet boys, nsync, aqua, smash mouth ace of base, TLC, destiny's child. a touch of ska with sublime, 311. other random stuff - fatboy slim, louis prima, azalea banks, limp bikit, shaggy, dua lipa (gay), the prodigy. there's so much more honestly but basically anything i like is what eddy likes 😳 he's like the catch all haha.
edd also loves music but i tend to think of stuff that reminds me of him vs. what he would actually listen to. crystal castles to me is edd music because i'm gay and emo but i don't think he'd really listen to them outside of the gothedd au that exists only in my head lmao. things i do think he'd listen to include kraftwerk, aphex twin, boards of canada, daft punk, massive attack, agnes obel, avalanches, burial. most of which he discovers through eddy of course. some outliers might be tool, muse, enya, anita baker (don't ask ok). there's other stuff i'm sure but that's probably enough for now.
ed is harder for me to nail down cuz i see him as mostly a rock/metal fan and even though i grew up listening to it, i've never gone super deep into the genre tbh. his favorite bands are primus and death grips. others would be alice in chains, nirvana, SOAD, melvins, butthole surfers, smashing pumpkins, black sabbath, metallica, rob zombie/white zombie. he might be into other 80s metal, black metal, sludge metal. none of which are anything i listen to so i couldn't tell ya what artists.
BUT other folks have made some great playlists for ed and the eds in general which i'll link here.
@mkorpse13's ed playlist
@mysticbeaver's ed and eddy playlists
@owmylasagna-blog's playlists for all the eds
@fish-bowl-2 has a great playlist for general eene vibes as well
my playlists for all three are here. not super long but i might add to them at some point.

shuffle your favorite playlist and post the first five songs that come up. then copy/paste this ask to your favorite mutuals <3
Me: Why don’t people send me asks
Also me: Takes weeks to respond cause I can’t answer a question normally
Okay here’s the thing, I don’t really listen to playlists and the only one I do is a shuffle playlist I have(tho I’m pretty proud of it). What I normally do is pick a song and go to radio, or go to my likes and press one of the genere thingys
Tumblr media
However I think I’ll do 2 things, show off my shuffle playlist(since I actually do use it a lot), and then shuffle my liked songs NOT w/out any categories for full chaos. Actually I also have a shuffle playlist I did for Spanish music, but that one’s more recent and hasn’t gotten that much use so I won’t do the shuffle thingy.
Anyway this my oldies shuffle playlist:
Tumblr media
It’s over a day’s worth of music, cause it’s meant to be shuffled(full disclosure started adding a shit ton of songs before the shuffle because I wanted to make sure it was accurate to my taste and there was a lot of music I added to my likes before making the playlist so they were missing(big chunks of abba,Fleetwood mac, queens, EWF, ELO, etc.) While the playlist is inspired by dad, and so is my taste in oldies music(actually a mix of him and my older sis), there’s stuff on there that I like that he doesn’t( stuff like Simon and Garfunkle and Elton John). It’s mostly 70s, but I’d say it’s 60s-80s. Also it’s English music, so no city pop or older hispanic music like Jeanette(most of my older spanish music is 90s anyway).
Anway these were the first 5 songs
1. At The Rainbows End- The Osmonds
2. Unercover Angel- Alan O’Day
3. Lady in Red- Chris Burgh
4. That’s All- Genesis
5. Wouldn’t it be Nice- Beach Boys
Also screenshotted 5 more and I think these are more indicative of my tastes in oldies(it’s missing a bit of my classic rock but it’s not like that’s what I listen to the most)
6. Roxanne- The Police
7. Oh Daddy- Fleetwood Mac
8. I’m Gonna Be(500 miles)- The Proclaimers (ngl got jumpscared with this one)
9. Wild Word- Ysuf/Cat Stevens
10. Fernando- Abba
Fun fact: Most of Rumors is on the playlist and the whole Xanadu Soundtrack is on there! I’d say may fav artists from the 70s would be ELO and ABBA, tho EWF was my fav band as a kid so that’s still nostalgic to me. Also Doobie Brothers are pretty good! Oh and Hall and Oats! On the more rock rock side of things, I’d say Aerosmith is the one know the most. Or Kansas, I think I like them more idk. I mostly listen to soft rock.
OKAY TIME FOR CHAOS SHUFFLE TIME
1. Sex w/ a Ghost—Teddy Hyde(I think this is more of my sister song?, tho it’s not bad song)
2. Esto les Digo— Kiney Lange, performed by Messiah College Concert Choir (yes this is a choir song)
3. Rata De Dos Patas—Paquita La Del Barrio
4. マイ・ボーイ(My Boy)- Lisa Ono (The title is Japanese but the song is in English)
5. Shun-ran— John (THIS IS IN JAPANESE, specifically vocaloid)
Bonus 6 incase 1 wasn’t me
6. L-O-V-E—Nat King Cole
Honestly, this is actually a good mix of the music I listen to, indie/soft, spanish, and j-pop, and oldies it’s just missing musical theater(also I listen to more early 2000s latino music). Also I don’t really listen to choir/classical music all the time but I do LOVE singing it so sometimes I will try to find new choir songs. Tbh, most playlist on Spotify lowkey suck and have very same-y repertoire, the best playlists I’ve found are Choir Classic-Spotify(a bit same-y but it is the classics™), Choir music that makes me crumb(great variety! I recommend this one the most), and I think Choir songs me that give me chills is also pretty good and it has more musical theater on it (THOUGH IT’S MISSING NORTE DAME).
Okay, I’m done yapping

On a rainy day a while back I made some very self-indulgent playlists for what music I think Abby and Hoagie would listen to (and thought way too hard about it). I could probably never do this for every member of Sector V because I don't think my music knowledge is that bespoke, but I think my taste and what I personally see the two of them liking overlap considerably, so I had fun with it. Hoagie Abby Some rambling under the cut
Hoagie loves a wide range of music, from good stuff to corny shit-- he is cringe but free. I think of his tastes as being categorically: -Early 2000s and late 90's R&B- Troop, D'Angelo, Boyz 2 Men, to a lesser extent Luther Vandross. Probably would also overlap a bit with Rap artists like Biggie Smalls. -Solo Crooners- Your Tom Jones, your Lionel Richies, your Barry Whites. I don't really think of him as a crooner, but I'll also toss Christopher Cross in there for fun. I think Hoagie would try playing Barry White in the COOLBUS on the way back from missions and Abby would yell at him for it. She can clock the longass intro to Never Ever Gonna Give You Up instantly from repeated experience. -Classic Funk and Soul - Rick James, Average White Band, Bootsy Collins, Earth Wind and Fire, Chaka Khan. Play that Funky Music White Boy is a certified Hoagie Anthem. -Detective-Core- This isn't a scientific category, this is vibes-only. But you KNOW Hoagie has The Classics in his collection. Deacon Blues, Copacabana, Shaft, Street Life, Ride Like The Wind, I Shot The Sheriff. Actually yeah I'm putting Christopher Cross here too. Hoagie would absolutely imagine a vivid music video of himself to Ride Like the Wind. As opposed to Hoagie, I think Abby's playlist is more defined by meticulous craft and impeccable vibes rather than what's most popular. She's generally more discerning about what she considers her favorites, but there's still a lot of overlap between her and Hoagie. They've introduced each other to a lot of music. -Jazz and Jazz Fusion - Herbie Hancock. Abby and Hoagie (and probably the rest of Sector V) could sit and listen to Fat Albert Rotunda all day. It's just a good album. Bob James, (though Abby finds him hit and miss), a little bit of Pat Metheny, and a little bit of Miles Davis. -Funk and Soul...2 - Stevie Wonder, Commodores, Abby introduced Hoagie to some great jazz-influenced artists like Quincy Jones, and Hoagie introduced her to Average White Band. She also made him realize Lionel Richie had a career before going solo, lol. Both of them are all over EWF and Chaka Khan -Hip-Hop/R&B Salt N Peppa and Mary J Bilge are mainstays for Cree, which she introduced Abby to when they were younger; now the two of them are at war stealing the same 5 beat-up, scratched-to-hell CDs back and forth from each other. Cree busts down the treehouse door fully kitted out demanding to know where What's the 411 is every Saturday.

"On [Under The Pink]; under the concept of woman. That's really what we are talking here.
In 'God,' the strength of woman, the heartbreak of women: there is no resolve with some women. In 'Past the Mission,' desperately wanting to break free from being a victim and having Trent [Reznor] come, the raging man, but being very supportive of the woman. In 'Baker, Baker,' saying 'I am the one that hasn't been able to be intimate.' In 'The Wrong Band,' the hooker is saying "I have a voice that's worth believing. I got in over my head."
The consciousness is divided. You're either looking at who you are, or you're not.. 'The Waitress,' the rage, the betrayal.... Then it's 'Tori, what right do you have to judge her?' Then it sums it up: 'but I believe in peace, bitch.' I mean that's really it. It's hanging onto your beliefs but one hand's on her neck... get out of the room quick, she's not worth it. It's not your job. Why can't you just see that she doesn't get it?
"And when they are in a position, some of these women, to hurt other woman... it just... you want to rip their heads off. 'Cornflake Girl,' that's the initial betrayal, the whole seed of the division. Cornflakes and raisins: cereal. 'Icicle,' the little girl reclaiming her numb parts, her sexuality that was lost with her religion, 'Cloud on My Tongue' dealing with Eve... dealing with feeling inferior, that somebody else has something that you want...
'Space Dog:' we've worshipped everything else, why not him? And of course 'Anastasia,' which is the final of the finale."
...It doesn't read like a diary like [Little Earthquakes]. It's definitely reader participation. This is not about voyeurism. This is not about looking in. This is about you have to crawl into the painting and take yourself there."
Tori in B-Side magazine (US)
April/May 1994
Happy 30th birthday to Under The Pink 🩷 ! This is the album that turned me from "fan" to "EWF". Where does it rank for you?

Former Earth, Wind & Fire Drummer Fred White Dies at 67
Former Earth, Wind & Fire drummer Fred White died New Year’s Day, his brother and former bandmate, bassist Verdine White, said.
Fred White was 67; no cause of death was given.
“Our family is saddened today with the loss of an amazing and talented family member,” Verdine White of his younger brother.
“ … But more than that at home and beyond, he was the wonderful bro that was always entertaining and delightfully mischievous. And we could always count on him to make a seemingly bad situation more lighthearted.”
Fred White earned a gold record at age 16 for playing on Donny Hathaway’s Live LP. The then joined EWF in 1974 just in time for the band’s blockbuster That’s the Way of the World album. He remained with the group for a decade and was one of nine members inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Lenny Kravitz eulogized the drummer as “a true king” and cited him as an influence on his own music.
“May Fred White rest in peace and love,” Todd Rundgren’s Spirit of Harmony Foundation said.

Bishops Gala Continued: The Elements Personified
If I told you that I’ve tried to see EWF since 2014, would you believe me? Story time.
One day I’d prepare to travel to L.A. Y’all know how I feel about the City of Angels. This would be one of my lengthier visits as I was there for a week (and a day). Going to L.A. didn’t require an itinerary, but there are few things I knew I wanted to experience-The Arsenio Hall Show was one of them. I arranged for us to get tickets to the show where Earth, Wind, & Fire would be the musical guests. Once the tickets were secured, I thought of this experience for days at a time! What would it be like to be in a live studio audience on a talk show? My young, blogger-self could not wait!
Tumblr media
Fast forward or slow forward. L.A. traffic absolutely sucks, right? I remember my bf and I being on the highway, going steady, then coming to an abrupt stop. We’d gotten caught in traffic just minutes before reaching Studio City where the show was filmed. We finally find street parking, walk towards the gate with 5 minutes to spare and BAM! Security stops us in our tracks to let’s us know that we could not enter the set. We arrived too late. Disappointment came over me, maybe even a little sadness… but we managed to take advantage of the time were in the area, visiting one of the best record stores I’d ever been to.
Anywho… for the next 8 years, I’d miss EWF shows in the Midwest. In 2021, I’d travel to Vegas AFTER EWF’s residency at The Venetian would be over. We literally missed them by a couple of weeks. In 2022, got $600 tickets for a show in Dallas and EWF announced they were touring with Headliner, Santana. Unfortunately, he would become ill, rescheduling the dates to Spring of 2023. I truly thought it wasn’t going to happen for me to witness this amazing band. And then, I got a call of a lifetime…. A dear friend of mine told me they needed my help with an upcoming event. Let’s just say, the rest is history. I finally got to see EWF in one of the most memorable and personable settings-Bishop’s Gala. One of the most beautiful things I adore about nonprofit work is that it connects you with amazing people. In any room I step in, my goal is to be remembered. This call was unexpected, and it was incredibly rewarding.
I love you, Earth, Wind, & Fire! ❤️

I find that Michael's fanbase is annoying too tbh but in a different way because it's more the fact that historically having the biggest fanbase in the world will attract all flavors of annoying people, and the fact that it's annoying when mj fans feel like they have to engage any single detractor entity ESPECIALLY wh1te enjoyers of lesser artists. That's why I don't argue w anyone anywhere anymore in regards to him, you're getting one round of fact checking at most and that's if i feel like it and then youre getting instablocked. Engaging in that kind of stan behavior is pointless because michael has acheived every accolade and upper echelon possible for a creative, financial, humanitarian and social figure and was an innocent man slandered and crucified for no good reason, whether detractors and the wh1te public like it or not, the end. If anything fans of greats should tend to be more focused on other greats getting the proper dues they deserve, such as Stevie, Tina and EWF.

Lecture 15: The (then) “futuristic” pop dance hit “Let’s Groove” (1981) by Earth, Wind & Fire, (EWF) showed that some disco groups of the era enjoyed staying power into the early 1980s. Deeply rooted in jazz and R&B traditions, EWF scored their first Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit in 1975 with the funk song “Shining Star.” The band enjoyed a string of Top 10 hits until this song came out six years later. “Let’s Groove” reached #3 on the Hot 100 in 1981, marking the end of their successful run. Band member Philip Bailey went on to score a major hit with Phil Collins when the two performed the dance song “Easy Lover,” released at the end of 1984. By this time, EWF’s star was fading. The band’s songs would continue to chart, but nothing like their heyday from ‘75 to ‘81.

AllMusic Staff Picks: Earth, Wind & Fire That's the Way of the World
Earth, Wind & Fire has delivered more than its share of excellent albums, but if a person could own only one EWF release, the logical choice would be That's the Way of the World, which was the band's best album as well as its best-selling. Open Our Eyes had been a major hit and sold over half-a-million units, but it was World that established EWF as major-league, multi-platinum superstars.
