#Echo yaps a lot™

Genuinely I'm so tired of seeing a massive lack of media literacy in the HSR Fandom, specifically when it comes to Dr. Veritas Ratio.

Like, somebody please explain to me why on earth people portray Ratio as an unfeeling, uncaring, brash asshole who can and will punt you because he simply felt like it.

Why do people act like we don't have multiple receipts of him being a kind and caring person who does have (logical) empathy, and who wants nothing more than to spread knowledge across the galaxy because that's his passion. Even if he goes about it in a way that might seem less than ideal.

There are numerous things that he HAS done in canon that directly oppose whatever 'ideals' fanon Ratio is written to have. It's like the man can never catch a break and is constantly being doomposted for literally no reason other than the fact certain Ratio haters™ took his words personally. (I mean that half jokingly, to be honest.)

I've also noticed a substantial amount of people who despise Ratio but absolutely adore Ruan Mei who, objectively, is a lot worse than Ratio. She just takes the time to sugarcoat her personality. (Was the whole drugging ordeal not just symbolism for a lie being wrapped up in sugar with a bow on top (e.g a sugar coated lie) or is that just me looking too deeply into it???)

*Not to say I don't like Ruan Mei or that she's a fully terrible person.

And yes of course he's going to think himself better than some people because he was raised in such a way that he'd been alienated from his peers since childhood because he was always told he was "better" and was pushed to be the absolute best. Does that justify certain behaviors? No. But people give him absolutely zero grace while going and woobifying other characters who have done bad things just because they had a bad past.

And these are all just surface level, shallow notes of his character, by the way. I can't do his entire character justice but people have done some in-depth character analysis on him that were most definitely worth the read.

In a way it's almost amusing (albeit sad) how this random purple haired man has sparked so much outrage simply by existing. But it's also exhausting because I don't want to open my socials and see 8 Ratio OOC and/or hate posts consecutively even if I try to avoid them.

"I trust you. I like you." — a potential fic based on this (x) Detailed notes on Sabo's design below!

For him, I initially thought of him as a shark of all things. I say that despite not knowing how to draw sharks uh. Here it is below.

I wanted him to be a big boy and have this immense size difference with Law. He's the tallest among the ASL trio and that meant he should be the biggest merman out of the three. He's not necessarily buffer but he just has a larger frame and a longer, more muscular tail.

I also wanted him to look like a freak, a huge figure with obscenely sharp teeth. I found images on Pinterest with sharks with scars that seemed to slice through their skin and I wanted to incorporate that throughout the design. A homage to Sabo's scarred eye, if you will.

He had horns too, for some reason. I just thought it looked cool.

However, what I didn't like about this design was that it didn't read like Sabo, or at least the version of Sabo I envisioned in my head. Hence, I gave up on it. It was sort of devastating because I wanted to try something new, but we move on!

Without a clear idea for what I wanted, I spent a lot of time struggling with not just Sabo's design but with what I wanted the illustration to be overall. Later that evening, I scrolled through Pinterest (again) and found images of eels and that just clicked.

They're just the right combination of cute and just downright weird. They have that snake-like look to them, which echoed my initial shark design. On top of that, they don't look as derpy from the front as compared to sharks.

I did try again to make Sabo freaky, as shown by this sketch below. It's based on a scene from that potential fan fic, where Sabo saves Law from drowning and his inner freak shines through. I imagined a dark lighting situation where Sabo's scars are the light source. It'll be quite creepy and I'd like to manifest this vision someday!

Anyways, from here, I focused on making Sabo look cool and pretty for the illustration. I retained his human face (I am not good enough for furry art) and focused on making his tail look SUPER cool.

It's interesting to me that with this revision, I found inspiration in my initial 'failed' design. I still kept the star-shaped scars and placed them on his tail and body.

They're blue because (1) I wanted to respect Sabo's colour palette and (2) I was inspired by those ocean creatures who glow underwater. I feel that would be a good plot point like Sabo would be insecure about that because it's admittedly kinda scary but Law would think it's reassuring.

That's all I have to say about the designs. I have ideas for Ace and Luffy, but I haven't sketched them out concretely yet. I'm thinking lion fish for Ace and a cute black fish species called the Pinnate Spadefish for Luffy.

The Pinnate Spadefish has one bold red/yellow stripe and I like to think that Luffy as a merman just painted it on to look like Ace. He shifts between red and blue to imitate his Cool™ older brothers.

Despite being the older sister by a couple of years, Siba is shorter than her sister Yahima. and in general has always been the more outgoing/cheerful/The Silly™ of the two

Is very emotionally sensitive/an empath/what have you, and has been before she got the echo. But unfortunately it's always been played as a bit by others/isn't usually taken seriously bc of her fee fees

but that's okay, bc as she got older, she learned to use this as an advantage. now she usually leaves people second guessing her actual prowess and rumors with her personality/way she presents herself. Yeah no dw the blue catgirl can't hurt you I promise. she's just here for the vibes.

Speaking of The Vibes. she has ALWAYS been more dynamis sensetive, and is able to do Rule of Cool wack shit because of it. But due to the NATURE of dynamis, growing up she learned real fast to keep those emotions in check, bc the more intense the feeling for her. the more shit around her warps to reflect that, to a degree.

it's bc of her dynamis sensitivity that she was able to save herself and her sister back in the day, despite being young and untrained in the hunt. this is not an accomplishment that she cheers on bc it was. extremely tragic for her. it's a whole can of worms, sudden dead parents are involved, etc.

Math nerd summoners hate her for being able to do this one cool trick* to summon Shiva for a tragic bi for bi bit *(a cool guitar riff and a dream)

she can probably still use aether-based magics just fine, but it's clear to everyone her shit on bard hit diffrent. our resident Vibe Checker. the Vibe Enrichment.

she also grows into being a VERY GOOD ACTRESS. Siba tends to suppress and hide a lot of things from the scions, to even her closest friends, due to the harsh environment her tribe lives in. and it became a force of habit. So despite giving off the personality of being an open book, she's a surprisingly difficult read.

Although there ARE signs to tell when she's masking or not, and there are people in her life who can tell and who can't. Yahmia and their Grandmother are some of the few who have always been able to read her ticks, even after being gone for so long. Y'shtola, Koana*(to varying degrees), G'raha, Papalymo, Krile(in dt) and Minfilia can clock her from a mile away if paying attention, with varied reactions. Lamaty'i, the Twins, Erenville, Thancred/Urianger, Lyse, Ysale, and the rest of the scions to varying levels tbh can tell the more obvious ones, but still get tricked by the act more often than not. estinien is head empty other than being able to catch a vibe and know when to provide. solidarity. and we love that for him.

Basically how truly perceptive are u willing to be of Catgirl

*Koana is a weird one bc BEFORE they all started leaving tural (he for his studies, her later for her "getting away from my depression only to later rack up more trauma" adventure. aka arr and beyond) he learned to read her well-- as did she for him. Part of the reason why they get along so well is that they feel extremely comfortable around eachother. As fellow perceptive people, even with the opposing personalities, they picked up on another's habits growing up and developed their own weird way of communicating. Ambivert cat to Intorvert cat communication. also the fact that they were both curious book nerds who enjoyed listening to the other yap helped a lot too but ANYWAY. He USED to be able to read her well, but now coming back after 4 years, she's gotten a lot better at the act. Many ticks have changed, while many others have stayed the same, and for a while, it's like learning a new language that has the same base root as your first language. Familiar, yet different. Luckily, green catboy is a fast learner, and by the end of the expansion, they're p much back to where they were before. Y'know, other than. developments. (kissing your childhood best friend and pretending it didn't alter your brain chemistry a little bit. totally being normal about it)

bc the rumors and etc never talk about how emotional she gets. How she is. in fact. a crybaby

but will still get the job done even if in tears. she's not weak because she cries. because she allows herself to feel these emotions and work thorigh them.

and Yahima has been saying this since day ONE, bc her sister has had to make a lot of hard decisions for them growing up. all while through tears half the time.

Basically "Yes my sister is emotional. Yes she is a crybaby. She's also the strongest and bravest person I know and I don't want to hear ANY slander on her name"

also it's very funny. bc she's v much the "cheerful/sweet/optimistic character who changes vibe on a dime to be scary/cold/etc.'

it's all fun and games until the Bard is looking at you from beyond her brim with that one eye covered look. it's all fun and games until you get a knife barely grazing you neck. bc she has scary pinpoint aim from learning how to hunt.

and it's always a shock, bc people NEVER EXPECT her to get so humorless and cold when she gets into these moods. They're rare, but dangerous

anyway. she's the "character who smiles the brightest is burdened with the most grief" type beat. purposefully, forcefully, actively Hopeful despite everything

AU where Luo Binghe transmigrates into real life/Shen Yuan's world and his protagonist halo just completely dissappears—

—but in the most petty, stupid ways possible.

Say goodbye to perfectly clean, unwrinkled clothing! You move even two centimeters? Wrinkles. And the fact Luo Binghe wears primarily black clothing? You bet that any and every dust particle, animal hair, piece of dirt or literally anything that shows against black clothing will stick to Luo Binghe's clothes so often that the man starts to carry around a small lint roller.

Luo Binghe will trip over anything and everything. The only thing that was saving him from being an absolute clutz was the protagonist's halo, which is gone now.

His skin? Insanely sensitive, he learns. He needs to spend the next five months (minimum) looking into what products help with the ten different problems (minimum) his skin has — depending on the season — making sure they work and that he also isn't ALLERGIC to them. Yeah, allergies are also a thing now.

His hair, instead of being effortlessly styled and kept without doing anything, is now a bird's nest. Frizz so bad that the curl pattern is barely visible. Not only that, but it's also super dry and damaged. He now has a fifteen step skin care routine and eleven step hair care routine and is also the reason Shen Yuan's bank account regularly dips into the negatives — more than usual.

He not only randomly spawned into a world he knows nothing about, but he also just got debuffed to the max.

I was today years old when the realization that Sunday's stubbornness (Or determination, depending on how you want to look at it), shows beyond his own words and a part of the Sacerdos set, but also in his kit as a playable character.

Firstly, there's the fact that he uses the Harmonious Choir boss materials. That, in and of itself, is one of his biggest failures. (Although to him, any failure is probably a big failure...)

Yet using the mats from it to level his traces makes him stronger. It makes his buffs better.

It helps him uplift others easier, even if that failure has to stick with him for the ages.

And then we turn to the fact that his BiS set is the Sacerdos' Relived Ordeal set.

That is a reminder of every failure he has gone through across his whole life. One would assume a person would leave their old life behind, including outfit (Especially with one as specific as Sunday's) to move forward. But not Sunday.

He cannot move on from the past. He actively refuses to.

He may be branching out, he may be getting better, but he will never fully let go of what he's done wrong. He will forever keep that guilt with him, and use it for the betterment of others, even if it takes a toll on himself.

The description of each of the pieces is a memory. But none of them are fond.

All of them are a burden of some sort; a weight he has to carry.

Still, he continues forward.

Still, he continues to uplift others, even at the cost of himself.

A bird can shed their damaged feathers, but can the bird itself ever truly change?

I genuinely can't believe I didn't realize this sooner. It was RIGHT in my face in the description of the Sacerdos shoes. I saw it explain his determination and ideals, but I totally forgot to compare it to his actual playable kit...

Unless I'm being delusional (Very likely); then Sunday carries around a Charmony Dove feather (I'm p sure that's the kind in Robin's skill) that reminds him of his sister and I am in SHAMBLES. I am not the same person I was five minutes ago when I put two and two together. (Or, again, I may be a bit delusional)
