Either Batticus or Jackmon for the ship ask?! I can’t choose 🥰😂
Choose? As if I'd make you -- let's do both!! 🥰 Starting with Jackmon...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
who made the first move: Technically Jackson. Jacko admittedly is a total charmer all the time, and even though he was too scarred by his father John Eglinton's toxic masculinity to be open with his sexuality, he most assuredly acted more than a touch flirtatiously around Monty, even if just subconsciously.
who kissed who first: Monty kissed Jackson first. Jackson had a LOT of trouble admitting to both himself and Monty how deeply he'd fallen in love with him due to his own hang-ups, but it finally got to the point that Monty could tell Jackson's denials were all just bluster, so he jumped the divide between them. As soon as he did, Jackson immediately melted and kissed Monty back.
who started the relationship: Both, once Monty finally got Jackson to face just how real their feelings were and made it clear that he was sticking right by Jackson, no matter what.
who remembers things: Monty. Jacko is ADHD as all get-out, so he's very prone to forgetting things.
nicknames for each other: Funnily enough, Monty is the one person Jackson doesn't use nicknames with -- he loves Monty so much that he won't part with a single syllable of his wonderful name, so he exclusively calls him "Montelimar." Monty will sometimes use Jackson's common nicknames like "Jackie" or "Jacko," but also tends to stick close to using Jackson's name. He will occasionally use modest terms of endearment like "love" or "chere" though.
who is more likely to pay for dinner: Oh, gosh, Jacko. Jacko is big on spoiling Monty financially, so he's the one with the deep pockets.
who normally cooks: Monty, though Jackson loves helping!
who remembers anniversaries: Both, fortunately, but Jackson goes ALL out. Expect breakfast in bed, presents, and flowers every anniversary, Monty dear.
what would they get each other for gifts: Jackson loves giving Monty new clothes, tickets to theatrical productions, books, and especially flowers. Monty also likes giving Jackson books (especially books of poetry), but also gardening equipment and new seeds or saplings that Jackson can plan in their garden, as well as writing supplies for his Ministry work and so that Jackson can write more poems of his own.
most trivial thing they fight over: The arrangement of the furniture. Monty is the sort to like to have the armchairs close to windows and lamps, so as to have plenty of light in the room for reading, and although Jackson loves reading as well, he's very finicky about a room looking aesthetically pleasing and not too crowded.
how often do they fight: Almost never. Jackson doesn't like being angry or sad, and he especially hates knowing he's upset Monty, so even if he's a total diva with very dramatic emotions, he'll often completely decease and desist the moment Monty puts his foot down.
who uses all the hot water: Oh come on, we all know it's Jackson.
who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working: Fortunately Monty and Jackson would be well enough off that they wouldn't need to live in a flat...but if something's wrong in the house, I could see Monty being the one to remember to deal with it, unless it's something that bothers Jackson so much that he feels the need to dramatically make a big issue of it.
who leaves their stuff around: Jackson. He's more artistic in how he strews things about than sloppy, but he's enough of a diva that he would not be above dramatically sweeping off his coat or cape and tossing it across the chair after a long day of work.
who remembers to buy the milk: Monty's the responsible one, and he has the good memory, so yes, he'd fill this role in their relationship.
who controls the netflix queue: In a modern, less magical AU, this role would definitely be Jackson. He's very opinionated about the arts, so he'd dictate most of the entertainment he and Monty enjoyed together. Fortunately his tastes match up with Monty's rather well and he has good taste, so Monty doesn't mind one bit.
who steals the covers at night: Jackson, I guess -- though I see him being more of a snuggler with Monty than the blankets.
who cusses more: LOL, it's rare when either of them swear -- Monty because he's such an intellectual and Jackson because of his need to uphold his gentlemanly image.
who does most of the cleaning: Both! Magic makes it quite easy, and Jacko loves cleaning the house with Monty on the weekends.
what’s their favorite non-sexual activity: Reading books together! Jackson will often sit in Monty's lap while they take turns reading poetry together. 💚
who’s the cuddler: LMAO, definitely Jackson. He's secretly incredibly needy as a lover, and when these two are in private, Jackson is incredibly physically affectionate with Monty.
who’s the big spoon/little spoon: Monty is the big spoon -- Jackson is the little spoon.
who’s more dominant: Monty, actually! For however much of a loud, proud diva Jackson is in public, he takes on an incredibly submissive role in the bedroom.
who is the dirty talker: Mmm, technically Jackson? Though it's very muted and softcore. His "bedroom talk" is more on the vocal, submissive side than anything.
what do they do when they’re away from each other: Work, quite honestly. Though if Jackson's away from the UK on a business trip, he'll often daydream about being back at home with Monty.
what would they do if the other one was hurt: Monty is incredibly protective of Jackson -- if anyone were to hurt him, he'd pretty much immediately go into "knight-in-shining-armor" mode to protect him. If anyone hurt Monty, Jackson would immediately rush to Heal Monty's injuries himself, and probably also plot cold, silent revenge against whoever dared hurt his beloved Montelimar.
a headcanon: Jackson and Montelimar's wedding was held at a pavilion in England not far from Jackson's grandfather's estate, but their honeymoon was in Normandy, France.
And Batticus is under the cut!
Ship Ask!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
who made the first move: These two's relationship is more on the queerplatonic side in their canon...but even in the Reincarnation AU, where they could be more explicitly romantic, the first move was always Bat's, though he wouldn't have seen it as such. Being demisexual and demiromantic, Bat fell in love by becoming Grim's friend first, and it was through that close friendship that Bat became more extroverted and intimate with his emotions.
who kissed who first: It would have to be Grim, impulsively -- with Bat being demi, kissing isn't something second-nature to him, and if he were a vampire, he'd be a little intimidated of getting too physically close to Grim.
who started the relationship: Both, once they talked the whole thing out. These two are both very cerebral Ravenclaws, so they'd want to not just hash out their feelings, but figure out what they wanted in a relationship and how things would work between them before committing to anything.
who remembers things: Grim. Bat's memory isn't bad, far from it, but he tends to live in the moment, and especially while he's a vampire, time becomes much more nebulous and vague to him.
nicknames for each other: "Bat" and "Grim," respectively. It's exclusively what they call each other in all canons, whether their relationship is friendly, queerplatonic. or explicitly romantic.
who is more likely to pay for dinner: They'd split the bill. Bat is poor in all canons, sad to say, but he would stubbornly and proudly try to pay for himself or just do without, rather than have Grim pay for him.
who normally cooks: Bat. He likes being of service to Grim, so when he comes over to Grim's place in their canon, he'll brew Grim tea and cook him dinner sometimes, if he's not feeling well.
who remembers anniversaries: Grim. Bat honestly doesn't put much weight on such things or even on other recurrent things like birthdays, especially when he's a vampire.
what would they get each other for gifts: Books! Oh god, these two both love giving each other books. Though Bat did also once save up to buy Grim a model train set one Christmas.
most trivial thing they fight over: Money. Bat is a proud, stubborn little bugger who can't stand it when Grim tries to pay for anything for him, even when he can't afford it.
how often do they fight: Not that often -- Bat's pretty chill by and large, so it's not easy to get him agitated. Though Grim does often express disapproval when Bat shares knowledge with their students that's not particularly "appropriate" for their age range, such as Inferi for anyone younger than the OWL level.
who uses all the hot water: Neither of them, really. I don't see either of them being the type to take long showers or baths.
who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working: Either one, depending on who noticed it first.
who leaves their stuff around: Both. With Bat, he's likely to leave unfinished woodworking projects around -- with Grim, he's likely to leave half-graded homework assignments and paperwork around.
who remembers to buy the milk: Bat, probably on the fly, while walking past the grocers.
who controls the netflix queue: LOL, in the event that these two watched TV together, I could see them mutually surfing channels and stopping on whatever looked interesting. Documentaries, especially -- the Discovery Channel would get a lot of play, in Batticus's flat.
who steals the covers at night: Neither. Grim is an insomniac, so he never sleeps well. When he's human, Bat isn't the type to get cold while he's sleeping, and when he's a vampire, he doesn't sleep at all.
who cusses more: Surprisingly, Grim! Grim can swear a lot when he's frustrated or surprised.
who does most of the cleaning: Bat -- he loves staying busy and active, and his Quidditch-star-and-veteran-worthy strength actually does make it really easy to move furniture around to do really nice, deep cleans.
what’s their favorite non-sexual activity: Going on outings! Especially during Christmas time. Bat loves window shopping in Hogsmeade with Grim.
who’s the cuddler: Neither, really. Grim was raised in a very "proper" Victorian home, so he isn't very practiced expressing physical affection, and Bat as stated earlier is demisexual and demiromantic, so cuddling isn't something his brain and body tend to lean toward. I could see them really enjoying sleeping in the same bed in the Reincarnation AU, though -- even if they didn't end up cuddling, Grim would really like Bat leaning his head on his shoulder as he slept, and would probably be unable to stop himself from brushing some of his hair out of his face.
who’s the big spoon/little spoon: Bat as the big spoon and Grim as the little spoon, most of the time, but only because of their height difference. And yeah, this could only be in a universe where Bat wasn't a vampire who would go mad with blood lust, being so physically close to Grim.
who’s more dominant: Bat and Grim are interesting because they're really much more like equal partners, rather than one of them being dominant and the other submissive. I could see outsiders assuming Bat was the more dominant of the two, given that he's taller and stronger than Grim, but Bat is so laid-back so much of the time that Grim calls the shots in their dynamic plenty.
who is the dirty talker: Neither. Grim is too much of a gentleman and Bat is too demi in all ways for either of them to be big into dirty verbal foreplay.
what do they do when they’re away from each other: Do their own thing, quite honestly. In all universes, Bat and Grim love spending time together and they cherish each other deeply, but truly, they're able to function very well on their own as well.
what would they do if the other one was hurt: If Grim was hurt, Bat would go into soldier mode trying to protect him and take down the threat to his safety. Once the threat was negated, Bat would then rush to try to help Grim however he could, whether by Healing him himself or getting him help from someone else. If Bat was hurt...honestly, Grim would ultimately probably do the same thing! Negate the threat to Bat's safety and then do whatever he had to Heal Bat's injuries. I could just see Bat being a bit more physical in his attacks than Grim -- Atticus is an excellent magical duelist, so he'd be using his wand primarily, while Bat I could see throwing a punch, using a weapon, or tackling somebody if he had to.
a headcanon: There were quite a few students at Hogwarts who thought Professor Grimsley and Hogsmeade's vampire scholar Bartholomew Varney had "something going on." Most supposed Bat had used his "vampire glamor" to make Grim hopelessly attracted to him -- an assumption that Grim would always dryly put down if he overheard it, reminding the students in question that vampires were not veela and scolding them for believing such baseless superstitions.

york locale Condos
Toronto is a city loaded up with condominiums. Neighborhoods like the midtown monetary and amusement locale, the west end's freedom town and Yonge and Eglinton are loaded up with new and old apartment suite structures and it appears more are being constructed ordinary. Every one of propositions regions offer their own exceptional advantages to living in that area yet by and large one region stands out among the remainder. North York condominiums offer many benefits. This article will go more than a couple of these exhaustively.
While taking a gander at the area the main thing that rings a bell is openness and comfort. North York condominiums are situated in the North finish of Toronto and are near numerous thruways and principal vein streets that give admittance to different pieces of the city. They are exceptionally near the 401 parkway, which is brilliant on the off chance that you work in regions like Mississauga or Markham. Living in North York Condos permits you to in any case be in the city of Toronto with the accommodation of being near the expressway, this lessens your drive fundamentally.
In the event that you don't drive North York apartment suites are still entirely open through Toronto's metro framework. The Yonge-University tram line slices directly through the area. The majority of the North York townhouses are worked around tram stations and regardless of whether they are not they are overhauled by the Toronto Transit Commission transports. North York condominiums are on the metro line that runs North to South and are in this manner associated with downtown without any problem. What is much more noteworthy about the area is the way that it is a couple of prevents away from the Bloor line depot. The Bloor metro line associates Toronto's East and West finishes. Condominiums have developed to turn into a significant natural surroundings of metropolitan focuses across North America. Promoted as a lodging elective with a lighthearted way of life, they have become exceptionally well known, particularly during the most recent 10 years or something like that. Single individuals, childless couples and retired people appear to be especially drawn to them, mostly due to advantageous conveniences in and around them.
However, to numerous purchasers and unit proprietors, condo possession might in any case be uncertain and tangled. Since apartment suites are not in light of a similar possession structure as road level conventional (freehold) homes, contrasting townhouses with customary homes resembles contrasting apples and oranges. Townhouse proprietorship depends on a two-layered possession framework. One level relates to the singular unit itself, and the second, to the supportive of appraised and unified interest of the multitude of normal components in the apartment suite complex, including the land under the complex. Despite the fact that the unit proprietor gets a singular deed to their unit, it is consistently contingent and subordinate to the expert deed of the second level possession, addressed by the normal components of the apartment suite complex. On the other hand, a customary home, organized by its charge basic title proprietorship, gives its proprietor a flat out and selective responsibility for the land and the residence raised on it.
north york Condos
Living in North York condominiums presents a lot of benefits. Among these benefits is the closeness to diversion scenes. There are a lot of fascinating things that you can do in the space that are a short strolling distance or metro ride from your townhouse.
On the off chance that live auditorium isn't your favorite living locally likewise offers you different types of amusement including films. There are two enormous cinemas in the core of the area. Situated in the Sheppard Center on Yonge and Sheppard is a Ciniplex Odeon Theater and a couple of blocks north on Yonge is an Empire Theater. Both of these buildings are inside strolling distance from all North York Condos and proposition multi screens. In the event that you are hoping to see a film odds are one of these two performance centers will show it. Living in the space permits you to look no farther than your own neighborhood for amusement.
On the off chance that you are not keen on melodic theater or films the region is additionally home to one of Toronto's greatest and best galleries, the Ontario Science Center. In the event that you live in North York Condos you will be only a short transport ride away from the Ontario Science Center. As well as lodging many displays on science related materials, the science community additionally houses an I-max theater. While most of displays in the science place are aimed at youngsters they do grandstand voyaging shows during the time that are designed for grown-up guests.
In the case of heading out to films, plays or exhibition halls isn't important to you the region likewise has a lot of bars and eateries that offer probably the best food and music in the city. North York condominiums are near an assortment of eateries that address an enormous variety in food and passage. The region is host to Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, and Asian combination eateries notwithstanding the more conventional Western style cafés. North York Condos are likewise near an assortment of bars who offer probably the best burgers in the city notwithstanding the wide choice of brews on draft.
mississauga Condos
In the event that you are investigating moving into a condo in Mississauga, you will be confronted with the decision between tracking down Mississauga townhouses for lease or available to be purchased. The two of them enjoy huge benefits and burdens, so you should truly need to weigh which one is more advantageous for you. One way or the other, there will continuously be townhouses accessible for lease and available to be purchased in Mississauga.
A many individuals hoping to purchase their own place as opposed to leasing frequently begin with purchasing a condominium/condo loft. Brampton condominiums, or Brampton condo lofts are a decent option in contrast to Mississauga condominiums. Brampton condominiums are significantly less expensive than similar apartment suites in Mississauga.
At the point when purchasers of Toronto Condominium Listings and Mississauga Condos available to be purchased come to the choice of a home examination many think it is an exercise in futility and cash. That perspective is reasonable as townhouse companies are liable for the greater part of the significant upkeep of a structure.
Washroom plumbing in Toronto Condos and Mississauga Condos can foster releases very much like standard houses.
toronto Condos
The Toronto Condos housing market is developing and prospering even amidst troublesome financial conditions. As the city of Toronto keeps on developing, the interest for apartment suites will keep on rising. Indeed, even now, the Toronto market is beginning to warm up. This moment is the ideal time to bounce into the market and grab up a portion of Toronto's extraordinary arrangements while funding rates are at noteworthy lows.
High development market, wide assortment of speculation open doors, and noteworthy lows on loan costs. On the off chance that you are hoping to make a shrewd buy, right now is an ideal opportunity to put resources into Toronto condominiums!
A Couple of days prior I chose to jump into an online course which was facilitated by Baker land. Cook addresses a significant number of the engineers of Toronto condominiums concerning their deals. Barbara Lawlor and Jeff Clark were leading the online course and I thought numerous about the focuses they made merited detailing. They began with a survey of the deals history for 2012 for the condominium area as well as an expectation of their thought process planned to occur for the long term.
Here are a portion of the features:
They jabbered about how individuals pick Toronto apartment suites on the grounds that their choices depend on way of life decisions or venture decisions.
In 2012 the new home deals seemed to be this: Toronto condominiums addressed 51% of the deals and disconnected homes addressed 26% of the deals. For what reason are townhouses turning out to be a lot more famous? Well there are many reasons; a ton of it has to do with reasonableness and afterward obviously are the way of life decisions for the youngsters as they lead extremely bustling ways of life and maybe lack the capacity to deal with all the support gives that a house involves; too, condos give an incredible feeling of local area and security.
What are individuals purchasing when they are purchasing Toronto condominiums? The main decision stays one room and caves (1+1) and this decision obviously overwhelms overwhelmingly. Financial backers especially like them since they can frequently lease the unit as a two room arrangement which would request incredibly to understudies. The second most famous decision is the one-room unit, trailed by the two room units.

Day 12. February 10, 2020. Te Anau day ride. 155km.
Woke to low 40's and gray which made me question the Carrot and Weather Channel apps which had shown 72° and sunny. But closer inspection revealed a marine type layer probably due to the massive lake's shores which was projected to burn off by 11. The kitchen came stocked with farm fresh eggs, bowl of assorted fruit, milk, butter, juice, yogurts, cereals. We set about making some eggs and toast and then of course after finishing off yesterday's blog we grabbed the two frisbees and the "golf course diagram" and headed out. A half life sized chess board on the sprawling manicured lawn provided the tee for the first hole. All the bikes were truck tires with the hole number painted on the rubber. Got to explore their grounds and have some fun tossing the 'bee. We then got into our GoreTex gear and headed towards Milford Sound after a CalTex has stop in town. Knowing we couldn't get to Milford due to road closures/flooding we were aiming for a swing bridge made of three cables. One for your feet and one for each of your hands that spanned the west branch of the Eglinton River. It was featured in one of the NZ touring books I had bought last summer. We saw that the trail sign to identify the turn off was the Earl Mountain turnoff and headed that way. We wound a bit away from the water and gained some elevation and then came to a construction zone. Not being sure if this was related to the recent flooding we got in mine behind a few cars and waited. Maybe less than ten minutes and the opposing truck, bus and camper passed us then we were allowed to proceed. Usually the 120km up to Milford takes over two hours due to the heavy traffic. Top tourist destination in NZ, one road in and out. Lots of buses and cars jockeying to get parking at the roadside attractions. One huge benefit of having the road closed about 75km ahead was that there was hardly any traffic! Great road and scenery as jagged Teton-esque peaks wound into view between the nearly sheer yet forested canyons as we gained elevation. After passing through a few more, wait, take a wild guess... sheep farms 🐑 we came to a diversion. Funneled into a lane off the road to what appeared to be a toll booth, explained to the gal we were in search of a cable bridge off the Earl Mtn. Trail before the closed section. She allowed us to pass. So far so good.
You can tell when you enter Fiordland NP. Sure, there's a sign off to the left (but placed behind a farmer's field/fence so inaccessible for a reasonable picture). But immediately farmland disappears and you are envelopes in the eery dense tunnel of what seems to be darned close to tropical forest. With the 21 feet of annual rainfall being lush shouldn't be a surprise but the immediate drop off in brightness is dramatic as well. Almost like going in a cave. There are some open "flats" but much of the area along the one road there is heavy forest. The other concern for vehicles but especially bikes involves the encroaching algae/moss on the roads. Two tire tracks are largely clear of it but the center of the lanes and the road as well are mostly a bit greenish with the slippery stuff. Lots of "slippery when wet" signage and it wasn't for the Bon Jovi album. I imagined it could be taxing to stay in the worn and clear tire tracks on one of the 250 rainy days. With clear blue sky and dry along with no traffic, the 55,65 and 75kph turns were superb sweepers and we had a ball carving up that road. One of the stops was at Mirror Lakes. Aptly names and even though a couple of fish had disturbed the surface, the pics are keepers. We rode up into Fiordland a ways and then there was the Earl Mtn. sign. We pulled in to the parking area and saw the line of yellow tape across the entrance to the trail. Also no other vehicles were there. The sign said it was closed and also had a few poison signs around the lot. They described the poison that was dangerous to animals and people to attempt (as is often done here) eradication of a non-native predator. In this case it seemed to be some sort of weasel that was endangering a bird that lived on the ground. We had discussed this cable swing bridge and yellow tape and warnings weren't gonna stop us! We worked around the tape and stepped into a dense forest trail. The first 10 minutes took us along an occasionally muddy trail. Tons of tree roots. Most of the deep mud had sticks or small logs tossed in to provide steps but a few ill advised steps resulted in 6" plunges and lovely boot pulling sucking noises to dislodge my Alpinestar SMX-6 from the muck. Then found my way down a thirty foot hill by treading solely on exposed tree roots from one tree! (Pic above) After that, following the well marked red triangular plastic blazes into the heart of Frodo land, the forest was a magic pliant spongy floor. It took a while to figure out that about 6-8" of moss has somehow grown over a network of interconnected tree roots. When I stepped, the entire ground in a five foot radius would give in and move a bit. It was weird and beautiful. After another 10' we heard the Eglinton River and were blocked by some fallen trees and yellow tape. A work around brought me to the river just above the cable swing bridge. A very large tree had fallen on the bridge from our side and collapsed it. Instead of a V shape, the 3 cables were mostly flat but still spanning the river. Ugh. No go. Managed to work our way with some difficulty through the dense brush to get close enough for a pic on the first rung of the bridge which was also the last possible one to reach due to the tree and damage. Pic above. There was a cute little bird on the ground by the bridge remnants. He seemed happy to see us. Wasn't afraid of people evidently as he strutted about watching us, walking under the branch I was balancing on without flying away. He seemed to enjoy company. Said goodbye to my new friend 🐦 and found the blazes trail which included a half dozen improvised detours to avoid deep muck. Scaled up the root ladder which must have been connected to Eywa as the whole forest seemed a bit magical. 🌳 One couple was following our lead to enter the forbidden enchanted forest as we exited. They were disappointed to hear the wire bridge was out. The entire trail from there is about a three hour hike.
I must comment that tons of serious hikers (trampers in local speak) come here and cover long distances. Temps are good. Views and scenery fantastic. None of those deadly spiders and snakes one may encounter across the Tasman Sea in Oz. I get it, just don't love hiking that much to spend days or weeks doing it. This area shows why Peter Jackson used it for LOTR. Nearly pristine and just overwhelmingly stunning. With boots and Klim pants properly mud coated, we were now sweating quite a bit. In fact while holding my Latitude jacket I believe I finally lost my first set of reading glasses on this ride. I have a couple spares but oh well. Think they fell out as I was scaling some of the hill or tree root sections. 👓 I opened up all the vents on my jacket and pants and started the bike to stand and let the 65° breeze do its job. Turned around a couple kilometers further at Lower Holyford Rd. as the heavy machinery was at work. Estimated repair on the sign said that the road would reopen on Friday, four days from now. We stopped a few times on the way back for scenic spots that were too good to pass by. One of the files above is the .gif of some chopper footage. Stopped to watch him load and fly away with a few tanks of what may have been fuel? Most likely bound for Milford Sound which was still isolated from the rest of the country's road system. On one of the last stops Ted must've not closed his bag since when we pulled into Te Anau town center his right saddlebag/pannier was open! Ba quick inventory revealed his polartec jacket and a plastic bag with a wipe were missing. The chain lube that Kiwi gave us as well as a helmet lock were still in the pannier. Those darned side opening clamshell designs! I said I'd get a table at the Ranch outside and wait for him to hopefully retrieve his stuff. I showed him how to flip up on the iPhone to reveal exactly where that last pic was taken. He was just putting on his helmet when a white car pulls up. A guy walks out and hands him his stuff! So lucky. They are bikers and saw his stuff and followed us into town. Nice. After some thank you a they drove away and the day got even brighter. The Ranch delivered me a couple Cokes and an interesting prawn twist dish. 8 shrimp individually wrapped in a long thin dough sheet and fried so the whole 8" long finger is edible and 3 sauces to dip accompanied the serving. Then a calamari salad. 😊 Back to the homestead for some blogging (so I won't fall asleep tonight trying to get this down) and rest before we scored a reservation at the top place in town. The Redcliff cafe. Ted was here last year and unable to get in! We rode to town and were walking down the street when Ted recognized the Aussies who returned his stuff at lunchtime. We turned around and flagged them down. They were perfectly willing to join us for a thank you beer and had a nice time talking with them. They were riders but here to scatter ashes of a friend up north and had received money and were encouraged to make a great trip out of it. They had been to Burt Munro as well. Our appointed hour arrived and we were seated on the back porch of the Redcliff cafe. A few tables of Americans nearby and some conversation with a California couple by us and an excellent meal. I had a salmon tartare dish followed by venison which was amazing and a date and ice cream dessert which were each remarkable. Redcliff did not disappoint. Probably the biggest culinary splurge of the trip. Even with a couple drinks my total ended up being just over $50 and it would've been 50% more for that same meal at home. Had a great evening and got back to the homestead in dusk around 10. Ready to roll northward tomorrow. 😴

The Unexpected Bird
In November, I woke to a thick duvet of snow on the ground. The Eglinton Valley was having its last gasps of winter, funnelling chill winds across Knobb’s Flat, where Dad and I were staying.
We were on the hunt for Rock wren – pīwauwau – and had based ourselves as far down the Milford Road as we could manage to avoid a long and winding journey from Te Anau, or a tourist-thronged crush from…

Wk 3 - Local Competition
LOCAL COMPETITION
Fade Room (Toronto, Ontario)
475A Rogers Rd, York, ON M6M 1B2
https://faderoom.com/
Website Experience:
Fade Room’s website has a clean and modern look and is easy to navigate. You can find clear headings such as announcements, products, Google reviews, addresses, and brands they’ve worked within the past on the main page. Their social media icons are well laid out and visible for new customers to access. Most importantly, customers can book an appointment with one of the three barbers online, creating a hassle-free experience.
Tumblr media
Market Positioning:
Fade Room has been operational since 2016 and has a strong customer base around the Stockyards District and Eglinton West area of Toronto.  They have collaborated with major brands such as Heineken, Children's Aid Foundation, and Reebok, leading to a very professional and trusted brand.
Reviews:
Fade Room has received a perfect 5.0 rating on Google reviews with over 384 reviews. They have also received an excellent rating on blogTO (5/5) and Yellow Pages (5/5). All of the reviews refer to the service delivered, while the other reviews are about the shop's barbers and environment.
Pricing:
Men's haircut (excluding beard trim) is moderately priced at approximately $40 plus. The interior design and exceptional customer service are factored into the price. The barbershop is well equipped with the latest hair clipper gear, flat-screen TVs, and vintage barber chairs, delivering a top-notch customer experience.
Tumblr media
Shipping:
Fade Room also sells merchandise. There is a sign-up page for new customers to register their profile.  Customers can buy items such as t-shirts, sandals, and hair care products.
Tumblr media
Social Media:
Fade Room has been the most active on major social media outlets such as Instagram and Facebook, but they also remain relevant on other outlets such as YouTube.  Followers on Instagram can see high-quality photos daily and can stay informed on current trends and topics in the industry on their blog. While posting consistently on social media platforms, Fade Room ensures to post unique images and videos that attract new clientele and retain current ones.
Weaknesses:
Due to Fade Room’s growing popularity, clients find it challenging to get an appointment for their haircuts.  Their customer base's most significant pain point is that appointments need to be booked weeks in advance, and the shop does not offer walk-ins.  This long wait time for an appointment can deter new customers, who are generally looking to get a haircut as soon as possible, from their shop.

Barbershop by evr.snce (Mississauga, Ontario)
2275 Britannia Rd W #17, Mississauga, ON L5M 2G6
http://www.evrsnce.com/
Tumblr media
Website Experience:
The website is simple and easy to navigate. It is not as robust compared to Fade Room, but it has the necessary information that a new customer would need: social media handles, barbers, portfolios, location and prices. Prices are visible on the main page and are clear on what a particular price entails. The only drawback is that when booking an appointment, it takes you to a third-party website that requires you to create an account. Creating an account with a third-party vendor may be a nuisance and hinder them from attracting new clientele.
Tumblr media
Market Positioning:
Evr.snce has a strong presence in the Mississauga area, Britannia Road, to be specific. While the brand is unique, what differentiates this barbershop from others is the skill set that the barbers at evr.snce have. Although this barbershop has not collaborated with other brands, customer reviews dictate exceptional artistry.
Tumblr media
Reviews:
Barbershop by evr.snce has a perfect 5.0 rating on their Google page with over 150+ unique reviews. They have 754 unique reviews on Booksy, an appointment management app, with 750 of those reviews receiving a 5/5 rating.
Tumblr media
Pricing:
A typical men’s haircut (excluding beard work) costs $40+. This is the median price for most men’s haircuts in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Shipping:
Barbershop by evr.snce does not sell products on their website.
Tumblr media
Social Media:
The only social media platform that this barbershop has is Instagram, and they are nowhere as active as Fade Room barbershop.
Weaknesses:
Evr.snce's biggest weakness is the user experience of their website.  Making an appointment online is the most significant use case of a barbershop's website.  However, users of evr.snce's website are forced to join a third-party booking website to make an appointment.  This extra step can be very frustrating to new customers who want to make an appointment in the quickest way possible.
❎❎❎❎❎❎
Throne Barbershop (Toronto, Ontario)
399 Yonge Street Located on the 2nd level, along, Gerrard St E, Toronto, ON M5B 1S9
https://thronebarbershop.com/
Tumblr media
Website Experience:
Throne Barbershop has a simple website that includes essential information such as location, social media handles, and booking. However, scheduling an appointment with the barbershop leads customers to a third-party website that requires them to sign-in. As already mentioned, this may be a nuisance for new clientele. The website does not have their hours of operation listed, and they also have third-party advertisements posted on their website, which lacks professionalism.
Tumblr media
Market Positioning:
Throne Barbershop is situated in downtown Toronto's heart and has a strong customer base, as evidenced by photographs of top athletes and movie stars donning their merchandise.
Tumblr media
Reviews:
Throne Barbershop has an impressive Google rating of 4.8 stars with over 900+ unique reviews and a 4.2-star rating from blogTO. One of the barbers is also featured on Sportsnet.ca for cutting a Toronto Blue Jays player's hair. That same barber is also known as a celebrity barber for Kwahi Leonard and Tristan Thompson, to name a few.
Pricing:
A typical men's haircut costs approximately $40, excluding beard work, which is average for most barbershops in Toronto.
Tumblr media
Shipping:
Throne Barbershop sells their merchandise such as t-shirts, hoodies, key chains and hats. It seems that they utilize the Shopify platform to sell their products.  Customers can pay through Google Pay and PayPal.
Tumblr media
Social Media:
Throne Barbershop has an Instagram, Twitter and Facebook page. On Instagram, they have 13K followers and post high-quality photos of mostly their products.
Weakness:
Throne Barbershop does not offer a wide variety of haircut styles.  An overwhelming number of their negative reviews stated their barbers were not well trained in any other haircut besides the trendy "fade."  This lack of variety narrows their potential customer base.

I hope you feel better soon, cherie!! Headcanon for Jackson x Monty or for Bat & Grim? - cursebreakerfarrier
Thank you, hon -- I am feeling a lot better, thanks to the caring of friends like you. *virtual huggle-snuggle* <3

When Jackson was in denial over his feelings for Monty, he took to drinking a lot more heavily so as to escape from his conflict about the whole situation. Given that Jackson goes over-happy when he’s drunk, it helped him kind of forget his hang-ups and gloomier feelings, but it also made it a bit hard at first for anyone to tell anything was wrong. Monty and Adelia @that-ravenpuff-witch were the first people to get the feeling something was up, and their suspicions were confirmed when Jackson ended up so drunk one night that he passed out from alcohol poisoning and ended up in the Hospital Wing.
When Jackson woke up and immediately tried to force himself out of the Hospital Wing (Jackie boy HATES hospitals) despite being too ill and weak to properly move, Adelia confronted him about his drinking and flat-out told him he had to stop. Monty tried to soothe Adelia, his first instinct being to be gentle with Jackson since he was clearly both unwell and unhappy, but that only seemed to make Jackson more upset, as it reminded him all the more of how much Monty always universally supported him, even when he so clearly didn’t deserve it. He was so distraught that he turned into an adder and slithered out of the Hospital Wing, leaving both his best friend and the subject of his affection alone and very anxious.
This event was what really prompted Monty to talk to Jackson alone and put their feelings out in the open, confessing to Jackson how he felt and how worried he was about him. Jackson took a long while before he was able to admit the same (thanks, Daddy Eglinton, for screwing up this perfectly wonderful boy with your homophobic toxic masculinity >>), but eventually the two men were enveloped in each other’s arms, Jackson trying desperately not to cry as he clung onto Monty like he was his life line. The Slytherin didn’t end up actually bursting into full-on tears until he met up with Adelia and confessed to her that he was gay and that he liked Monty -- fortunately the tears were of relief, upon Adelia instantly expressing love and support.

When Bat learned that Atticus has had a soft spot for trains since his youth, the vampire went out of his way to do some extra work for the Honeydukes family organizing their inventory after hours and doing some freelance research for some of his associates so he could save up enough money to buy Atticus a miniature model of the Hogwarts Express that next Christmas. It was a bit of a challenge for Bat, since Dervish and Bangs was stuffed to the brim with way too many people, but Teddy Ellison actually volunteered to help Bat out by going in with Bat’s money, buying the train for him, and then bringing it back out to him. Bat then wrapped the box up in brown paper with a handwritten card inside and tied it up with blue and shiny bronze ribbons, before sneakily dropping it off in dog form on Atticus’s desk on Christmas Eve so he could find it in the morning.
Send me one of my characters, I’ll give you a headcanon!

Day 82 - 20th February 2018
We awoke early to prepare to be picked up by taxi at 7.10am to take us to the bus station where we would join the coach travelling to Milford Sound. We were due to sail on a cruise along Milford Sound and upon our return, leave the coach party and head for Milford Sound International Airport for our return flight to Queenstown. The coach was full of Chinese tourists, as was the boat when we sailed on Milford Sound.
When we pulled back the curtains we could see that it was raining heavily, and for the first hour or so of the coach trip we drove in rain. However, the nearer we got to Milford Sound the brighter the skies became. We passed through several locations that had featured in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies, including the Remarkables Mountain Range and Eglinton Flats.
Tumblr media
We stopped briefly in Te Anau for a comfort break and to purchase some food for lunch on the boat. I thought that I had purchased a venison pie, but the guy taking the order obviously misunderstood what I said, because when I eventually ate the pie, it turned out to be a vegetable pie, very tasty nevertheless.
As we approached Milford Sound the scenery became more and more spectacular, and as we approached the 1,2km long Homer Tunnel, there were sheer cliffs rising into the sky on either side. We arrived at Milford Sound just in time for the 1.00pm sailing and boarded the boat. All of the Chinese on board had buffet lunches, so Joan and I had the top deck to ourselves for the first 15 minutes or so.
Tumblr media
Eventually people started drifting up onto the top deck, and it wasn’t long before I spotted a group of dolphins swimming to the left of the boat, coming closer and then jumping out of the water. It all happened so quickly that it wasn’t possible to photograph them jumping, but they made an amazing site as they swam alongside the boat.
Tumblr media
The scenery in Milford Sound is awe inspiring, with huge vertical cliffs that plunge down to the water’s edge. Every now and again there are waterfalls cascading down the rock face, into the waters below.
Tumblr media
We sailed to the end of Milford Sound into the Tasman Sea, and then turned around, and headed back towards the head of the fjord. We stopped at a couple of locations on the way back up the fjord to see some fur seals basking on the rocks.
Tumblr media
The skipper then performed one of his party tricks and took us in to the water’s edge, close into the rock face almost beneath where a waterfall was cascading down from ~50 metres above us. Everyone on the top deck got slightly wet in their effort to photograph the waterfall from below!
Tumblr media
When we arrived back at the jetty we were very disappointed to hear that no flights were leaving Milford Sound that afternoon due to adverse weather conditions (boo hoo). So we boarded the coach for the return trip through the mountains and back to Queenstown. By this time Cyclone Gita was making its presence felt, and we drove back into Queenstown in torrential rain, that persisted throughout the night.
Tomorrow we were heading for Oamaru, which is about 300km away, on the east coast, and we would probably have to drive through some pretty awful weather on the way.
