The technicians were attempting to “cool” the connectors while energized on a hot day. Clearly, they have no diagnostic abilities. If the connectors are getting overly hot then the solution is generally to fix the increased resistance likely cause by a poor connection inside the Bates connector. Easy, it’s just a couple screws. Instead the extremely dangerous idea of submerging them in ice water was drummed up, no GFCI protection. What’s wrong with this idea? Potential for increased amperage? Potential for line-line fault? Potential for line-ground fault? Potential for water conducting electricity directly into human technicians? Potential for corrosión of electrical parts?
