Elephant sanctuary Jaipur
Tumblr media
It is said to be a firm belief that an Elephant Sanctuary provides a very disapproving base as they tend to break the cycle of elephant tourism in Jaipur, on the contrary, Elefanjoy works for those domesticated elephants of Jaipur who are provided by low wages and also for the caretaker families so that they can extend a helping hand to all the Asian Elephants and provide welfare services. Carole (Zola’s mum) and her friend Michael have been travelling in India with Festival the monster.  They took a LOT of amazing photos. Festival has selected a few to share with you, and for some reason elephants seem to be quite heavily featured*.
First stop : Dehli. The streets are busy.
People are relaxed about getting their shopping done.
A busy city needs lots of power to keep it going.
Paying attention to the signs.
Festival says, “May I have some of these?”
Qutub Minar temple in Dehli.
Qutab Minar tower, Delhi.
Detail of carving at Qutab Minar tower, Delhi.
The assembly area in the Red Fort Delhi where the King and ministers would meet people. The Red Fort had two moats, one with tigers in, one with crocodiles plus conduits for boiling oil.
Michael admires the screen.
Festival had to wait outside the Taj Mahal while his friends went in to visit.
Inside the Taj Mahal’s gardens.
Interior of mosque.
The Great Gate. Darwaza-i-Rausa. Entrance to Taj Mahal.
Sight-seeing is tiring! Indian palm squirrels enjoying a snack.
Macaque monkey.
Namreena Fort Palace between Dehli and Jaipur.
Mural of warrior at Namreena.
The Amber Fort in Jaipur.
Inside the Amber Fort.
Elephant!
A painted elephant in the Amber Fort. Festival was taking notes on the designs.
Another pretty pachyderm.
A professional photography subject. She does an excellent job!
Tourists coming in and out of the Amber Fort.
Meeting place in the Amber Fort.
The Queen’s carriages from the Victorian era at the Amber Fort. The Queen had to remain hidden.
Another view of the Amber Fort.
A detail of a gateway at the Amber Fort.
Jal Mahal (water palace) in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur city.
Michael in front of Hawa Mahal (the Palace of Winds) in Jaipur. The breezy screen front allowed the ladies of the royal household to watch street festivals unseen.
Festival relaxing at the Samode Haveli Hotel in Jaipur.
Festival has a new friend to travel with.
The Maharajah and Maharani of Jaipur taken at Samode Haveli.
Festival with Ganesha, Lord of Beginnings and Remover of Obstacles. A very appropriate god for travellers!
A colourful parade.
Visiting the Elefantastic elephant sanctuary at Jaipur.
Carole and Michael meet Saku.
Elephants are painted for festivals. Don’t worry, it’s all non-toxic! I think Festival was getting ideas for new decorations.
Carole and Saku get close.
Being this adorable is thirsty work. Michael gives an elephant a drink.
Carole’s turn to give Saku some water.
Saku returns the favour.
Saku enjoying a bath.
A trunk makes an excellent shower hose.
Michael gets a chance to ride Saku.
Camel transport. The Thar desert in in this region.
Heading up to Shimla on the train.
Way up into the Himalayan foothills.
A 108 feet high statue of Lord Hanuman at Jakhoo temple.
Shimla.
Festival and friend at Clarkes Hotel Shimla.
The colours of Shimla.
Thank you, Carole and Michael, for the stunning photos. What an elefantastic adventure!
*Because elephants are awesome.

Elefantastic - Must thing to do in India.
Elefantastic is an elephant Rehabilitation center on the outskirts of Jaipur. The rehabilitation center is owned and managed by a former elephant rider, he center focuses on healthcare and breeding management for friendly, beautiful and special elephants to produce healthy elephants to live on Earth. Although, Elefantastic Rehabilitation Center was only born on 21st February 2012, Rahul’s family involvement with our elephants backdate to over 4 generations. Before the Rehabilitation Center materialized, he was an elephant rider at the Amber fort for 09 years, providing riding tours for the many tourists that visited the Amber Fort. Although, he enjoyed being an elephant rider at Amber Palace and met many tourists, he couldn’t help wanting something more meaningful for him and his elephants. Many of the tourists he met were interested in the day to day life of elephants and what he does with them, rather than just wanting an ordinary ride. As he pondered on the possible opportunities, he realized that he wanted to show people a more in depth insight into the lives of Asian elephants. There are vast misconceptions across India that  animals – specially elephants – are very badly mistreated. He decided that he wants to prove to people that htis is not always the case and take a step forward in eradicating this misconceptions. This decision inspired him to start the Rehabilitation Center, which gives an insight into the daily lives of Asian elephants. You will see that all of our elephants are well fed, with spacious rooms, attentive vet check ups every week to make sure they’re all at the peak of their health, with loving and caring caretaker.  . #india #travel #mustthingtodoinindia #besttravel #travelwithus #justtravel
