Spielberg was trying to make it for years and Will Smith was pursued too. There’s just no way it could work man. The only shot was 1999-2008 Wachowskis and hope to god they nail it. I don’t think they could have swung Asian coleads in that era of Hollywood tho. Would’ve been some weird shit like Emile Hirsh and idk, maybe Anton Yelchin?
wait was he really? did read once he was one of the first offered it (back in the '80s?) but thought it was some bogus made up thing - also him and george lucas never thought an american adaptation of akira would never translate to western audiences. regardless whether or not it would work or not a live-action adaptation is likely to get made within the next 10 to 15 years, i'd bet on it. there's some action scenes/camerawork in movies (i.e. speed racer, tron legacy, ready player one) where i'm like ok I could visualize someone nailing that opening bike chase without directly copying otomo's work, everything else wouldn't work though, it's a story that's tied to japan's history.

Megan Fox is getting ready to fuck us all up.
Variety reported that Fox is gearing up to star in an upcoming suspense thriller (okay, we’re already intrigued) called Aurora.
Directed by Lazar Bodroža (A.I. Rising), the film follows a female astronaut (Fox, obviously) who is stationed in outer space with one very important responsibility: monitor solar storms that endanger earth. The catch? The storms are seemingly bending time (shock waves can do that, apparently) and pushing her into an ‘emotional and psychological struggle with her past and present,” according to Arclight Films, which is currently shopping the project at the European Film Festival in Berlin. Potential for some serious drama? We think so.
Megan Fox and Bruce Willis are joining Em*le H*rsch in Randall Emmett’s directorial debut Midnight In The Switchgrass, which Highland Film Group will be selling at the upcoming EFM.
Set in 2004, the film will follow an FBI agent (Fox) and a Florida State officer (Hirsch) who team up to investigate a string of unsolved murder cases. Willis will play Fox’s FBI agent partner.
After producing more than 100 movies with Emmett/Furla Films partner George Furla, including Best Picture Oscar nominee The Irishman, Emmett begins shoot on his directorial debut March 9 in Puerto Rico. The $15M-budgeted thriller is being financed by EFO Films.
Good news for Jennifer’s Body fans—Megan Fox is returning to the horror genre! She’s set to star in Till Death, a high-concept horror thriller from Millennium Media and director S.K. Dale.
Fox will play Emma, a woman who must survive two hired killers coming to complete a revenge job. The catch? She’s handcuffed to her dead husband.
Millennium Media is reportedly taking the film to the European Film Market. Production is slated to begin in Bulgaria in March.

Personal Hans Week - 6. Sibling Rivalry
See hi-res version here: patreon.com/posts/60663853
Check out the Sibling Rivalry story by @freckledsaint : archiveofourown.org/works/36277990 Oh this was fun!! I always enjoy when we get to learn more about Hans and his brothers and their relation with each other! It was perfect having Emil versus Hans here as they both have similarities yet differences as we find out. And of course any Hans/Murphy moments are instant A++ 👌💖
I finally got the chance to draw the meme that’s been on my list for so long but forgot about until now! I could not for the life of me find a blank version of the chaotic meeting with Alex Hirsh image, but this is what it’s based off ;D It’s not easy having to work with your family no matter how well you all get along >_>;
From left to right:
Hans (13th) - He’s got things to say and he WILL be heard.
Henrik (5th) - Running off on 1 hour sleep and 3 cups of coffee, he already has had enough of everyone’s horrible opinions.
Klaus (1st) - Doing his best to be the mediator and actually trying to get work done.
Josef (3rd) - More interested in going back to work on his new ship, but is still worried for Klaus’ rising stress level.
Maron (12th) - Disagrees with everyone, especially Hans, on almost everything and keeps talking louder the more frustrated he becomes.
Markus (10th) - Did his best to speak up, but everyone ends up talking over him. He is tired of all the human interaction and just wants to go back outside to tend to his garden.

I wanted to take some time to reflect on Anton Yelchin. Today (June 19) marks the anniversary of his passing five years ago, and it’s gotten me thinking about a lot of stuff.
I believe the first work I heard his voice work in was as Clumsy Smurf in the 2011 animated movie The Smurfs. But at the time, I was too young to understand the amount of talent and work that goes into being a voice actor. So, I watched the movie. I laughed. I moved on.
The second time I heard Yelchin was in Trollhunters, and I will never get over the nostalgia of hearing him as Jim.
This is not to diminish anything about Emile Hirsh, who is also a wonderful voice actor and fits the role of this mature well-seasoned Trollhunter very well. However, Yelchin’s voice work truly reflected the awkward, selfless, and (mostly) ordinary teen. He poured so much emotion, personality, and fun into the role of Jim, and I have cried countless times over various scenes in Trollhunters in which Yelchin voiced Jim (namely the episode ‘Unbecoming’). His voice made the foundation of the Jim we know and love today, and I am forever grateful for his work on Trollhunters.
To our Trollhunter, Anton Yelchin.

Is Taylor still friends with Emile hirsh
Answer: I don't know how close they were to begin with? He had him in Austin after they filmed Lone Survivor and there was an instance they were pictured together in LA after what looked like a workout, but again, back pretty close to the time Lone Survivor filmed. Emile went through some stuff and seemed to step back from the scene a bit. I honestly have no idea if they're still friends. Though Taylor doesn't strike me as the type to drop someone.
Ask #2: Hey, any sign that Jennifer is moving to Montana? Was she on his trip that he posted about? Also, do you know if he’ll do any press for the Defeated? It would be good to see some new interviews.
Answer: No clue about Jennifer. I also don't know if Taylor will be in Montana full time either or splitting time. As far as The Defeated goes, we're two days from the release on Netflix and haven't seen anything yet...he's not on the schedule for any talk shows so I'm going to guess it'll be minimal if we do see anything.
Ask #3: Do you have any photos of Kitsch's new house in Montana or his reason for moving?
Answer: There were a few pictures from inside his house in the Wall Street Journal article, that's what I can share. Reason for moving? I can speculate but I have no idea for sure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ask #4: I just wanna stop in and say thank you for all the years that you have continued to consistently put in posts and updates on TK’s life, while respectin’ the dude’s privacy. I know you’re busy in real life and you don’t need to keep doin’ this. It’s greatly appreciated, from a fellow, long-time fan of his, so thank you. 🙏❤️ -Dax
Answer: Thank you so much! I try to be as respectful as I can and try not to infringe too much on his privacy but it's a delicate balance. Sometimes it is hard to bite my tongue. I've been a long-time fan too and I just started this because there really didn't seem to be many fan accounts out there. I try to keep you all up to date!
PS: Because there have been a lot of asks about 'Inferno' I did see today that Neill said he does plan to film 'Inferno' but there definitely did not seem to be a set in stone start date and it was even mentioned he wasn't sure if he might do another movie first, so...we wait on that one.

Weekend Workshop - Setting a Scene
Putting my money where my mouth is and giving you all my attempt for this weekend’s Workshop on Scene Setting.
This weekend, pick a movie (period dramas are good for this) and pick one scene to pay extra close attention to.
Take a moment to notice the location, the props, the costumes, the background sounds, the lighting, how the camera moves between speakers or participants. Even though some of these things never really make it into the scene, they help with establishing a sense of place - or give your characters something to interact with or react to.
If you were writing this scene, how might you convey some of these things to your audience?
The movie (miniseries?) that I picked was the 2013 Bonnie and Clyde, with Holliday Grainger and Emile Hirsh as the title characters. Clyde’s family moved to West Dallas and ran a small filling station for a while - that’s the setting I’m describing here.
Her stop for today was a small service station with a swaybacked front porch, floorboards sagging under the combined weight of age and notoriety. This wasn't the kind of place built to stand up to much in the way of attention - but absolutely the kind of place you grew up trying to escape.
A passing breeze kicked up a little dust from the lane outside, stirring the long blades of grass hiding near the posts of the porch - pretty much the only movement in the place. Not a whole lot of change going on around here, she thought to herself. .
The steps creaked under her weight, shoes looking curiously new against the peeling paint of the stoop. Guess he's not much in the way of sending money home, either. Those walls haven't seen new paint since Wilson was in office.
The inside of the station wasn't much above the outside, half-cleaned windows sending yellowish light onto a counter, a cash register, a wall of fading and peeling announcements and papers. The proprietor came in from the back room, a balding man in his fifties whose shirt had seen better days. He looked her over and sniffed.
"Whatever you want, I don't have it."
"How do you know?"
"Been doing this long enough that it doesn't take a genius, miss," he said, dryly. "Folks like you don't stop in this part of town unless they're looking for the name above the door."
Ah, yes, the name - the hand-painted one next to the large enamel GULF sign: HB Barrow, proprietor.
"Now, Mr. Barrow," she started, but he cut her off mid-stream.
"I already told you, I don't have it. Your next story, or scoop, or whatever it is you newspaper types are calling it now. Now go on - I got a business to run."
"Mr. Barrow, if you would just lis-"
"Miss, I don't know you from Adam, and you could be fixing to write my boy out to be the saint I hoped I could raise, but every time one of you all show up, there's another headline and another story and another six weeks before I see my boy, and when he comes back, he's starry-eyed like being famous will actually put clothes on his back the way robbing banks is doing. I just want my boy back. And I figure the only way I'm getting him is when you all get tired of talking. So, if that means I've got to offend some of you by sending you back out to that car of yours without your headline, then that's just what I'm gonna do."
Henry Barrow was a man of little wealth and less education, but he'd obviously been working on this a while, and he gave the speech all the dignity of declaiming Shakespeare. She nodded, unsure what else one could do in the face of such refusal. "Well, thank you for your time, Mr. Barrow," she managed, fumbling with the clasp of her pocketbook and pulling forth the crisp two dollar bill she'd brought to sweeten the deal. It didn't seem like much, weighed against the speech he'd just given. Then she turned and left, feeling foolish.
She'd gotten so used to those mugshots in the paper that those faces had become all she knew about people. Hard to imagine, sometimes, that criminals had family, that they didn't just spring into being in the public imagination. Harder still to imagine that there were people out in the world who, even after all they'd done, would want them back.

FUCK I just got to the episode where Emile Hirsh replaces Anton Yelchin as Jim and I am SO UPSET.
God, it hurts that Anton will never know how much he made the character his own. He put so much heart into his performance. I'm sorry that I'm so late to the party with this show.

The Autopsy Of Jane Doe
The Autopsy Of Jane Doe
Every other week we are presented with another low budget horror film that is trying to capture some of the success and the financial rewards of the likes of The Conjuring and Insidious. Unless the movie wants to get lost in the crowd it has to have a strong selling point. In the case of The Autopsy Of Jane Doe it is the setting.  At the best of times morgues are not the most inviting of places…

Coming Attractions - July 2021
Tumblr media
As usual, we present monthly previews of new movies being released and with a whole bunch of new movies hitting theaters or streamers this month, it is fair to say that the summer movie season is finally here! These are the movies that will be hitting your local cinemas (and streaming services) this month:
July 2nd
No Sudden Move (July 1) - Steven Soderbergh directs this new period crime thriller from writer Ed Solomon (Bill & Ted) set in 1955 Detroit. The movie features an overly impressive cast that includes Don Cheadle, Benicio de Toro, David Harbour, Jon Hamm, Amy Seimetz, Brendan Fraser, Kieran Culkin, Julia Fox, and Ray Liotta. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last month to generally favorable reviews, so be on the lookout for No Sudden Move available only on HBO Max today.
The Tomorrow War - When The Tomorrow War was initially announced in early 2019, then titled Ghost Draft, and set to star Chris Pratt with Chris McKay making his live-action film directorial debut, I was very intrigued. Flash forward more than two years later and Paramount has sold the film off to Amazon for a rumored cost of $200 million. The film hits Prime this month, and I hope it is good. We will see...
The Boss Baby: Family Business - The sequel to the 2017 film that my son absolutely loves will be coming to theaters and Peacock this month. This seems to be the first film in which Universal is following the HBO Max model of a streaming release (free for subscribers) concurrent with a theatrical release. Alec Baldwin returns to voice the titular Boss Baby, while James Marsden takes the place of Tobey Maguire who was apparently too busy to return for the sequel (No Way Home?) and Amy Sedaris joins the cast as a new baby at BabyCorp and the daughter of Marsden’s character.
The Forever Purge - The fifth and final film in The Purge franchise hits theaters this weekend. The Forever Purge is a direct sequel to 2016′s The Purge: Election Year in which the events of the annual Purge have explored past their one-day-a-year allowance. As a fan of both the films in the series and the short-lived television show, I am excited for this final Purge film. With this film and Boss Baby 2 coming to theaters this weekend and F9 only entering its second weekend, it is likely that over the Fourth of July weekend, Universal could have 3 of the top 5 (if not the top 3) films at the box office. Way to own a weekend Universal (not that there is much competition at the moment).
Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) - Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots directs this documentary about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival that includes never before seen footage from the festival that set in a basement for 50 years. The film has garnered rave reviews since its premiere at Sundance in January where it won top honors in the documentary category. Summer of Soul hits theaters and Hulu this weekend.
Fear Street Part 1: 1994 - Hitting Netflix is the first installment of this slasher trilogy loosely based on R.L. Stine’s books. Netflix’s release plan for the trilogy is a unique one and thankfully audiences won’t have to wait long for the second installment of these inter-connected films.
July 9th
Black Widow - After almost two years away from the big screen, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is back in cinemas with the Scarlett Johansson-led Black Widow. The film which takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War also stars David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, and Florence Pugh in a role that could be seen as one set to take over for the titular heroine after the events of Avengers: Endgame. During the second half of 2021, Marvel Studios has four films set to hit theaters and Black Widow is only the beginning of their comeback tour. See Black Widow in theaters or on Disney+ with Premier Access ($30).
Fear Street Part 2: 1978 - Here we go, the second installment of the Fear Street trilogy. What questions from the first film will be answered when a summer camp in 1978 is under siege, we will have to tune in to the sequel on Netflix to find out.
July 16th
Gunpowder Milkshake (July 14th) - Karen Gillan stars alongside Lena Headey, Carla Gugino, Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett, and Paul Giamatti in this action thriller from Israeli director Navot Papushado. The film, which has a John Wick feel to it, hits Netflix this month.
Space Jam: A New Legacy - The Tune Squad is back on the court alongside Lebron James in this standalone sequel to 1996′s Space Jam. The film, also starring Don Cheadle and Sonequa Martin-Green in addition to numerous Looney Tunes, will be released in both theaters and on HBO Max.
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions - After grossing $150 million on a $9 million budget, a sequel to the breakout hit 2016′s Escape Room was inviable. I rather enjoyed the first film and am eager to see this direct sequel which follows our champions from the first film, alongside other escape room survivors as they end up back inside the deadly game.
Fear Street Part 3: 1666 - At long last, the much-anticipated conclusion to the Fear Street trilogy hits Netflix, how will it all end? Who will live and who will die? And what does the 17th century mean to the story? Watch it and find out. Funny enough, by the time this movie comes out, everyone will be talking about Fear Street or no one will be.
July 23rd
Old - M. Night Shyamalan directs this new supernatural mystery thriller starring Gael Garcia Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell, Ken Leung, and Alex Wolff. The less you know about Old the better, so I am going to stop right there.
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins - When deciding to make a film about a character who always wears a helmet and never speaks, what do you do? Well, you cast Henry Golding and make it an origin story, and there you have it Snake Eyes was born. If you are super excited for Snake Eyes, check it out in theaters. If you are lukewarm about Snake Eyes like me, you can wait 45 days and watch it on Paramount+.
Blood Red Sky - Remember Snakes on a Plane? Well, Blood Red Sky is essentially Vampires on a Plane, if the vampires were the good guys. This is a real movie coming to Netflix, I promise.
Midnight in the Switchgrass - In this crime thriller based on a true story, two FBI agents, played by Bruce Willis and Megan Fox, team up with a Texas Ranger, played by Emile Hirsh, to catch a serial killer. Good luck.
July 30th
Jungle Cruise - Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt star in this Disney fantasy adventure based on a theme park ride of the same name. The film looks like if you mixed Pirates of the Caribbean with Anaconda. I cannot wait to take a ride on the Jungle Cruise later this month. The film will be out in theaters and available on Disney+ with Premier Access ($30).
Stillwater - Spotlight’s Tom McCarthy directs Matt Damon and Abigail Breslin in this drama that follows a Stillwater, Oklahoma oil worker to France to help his estranged daughter who has been charged with murder. The film is scheduled to premiere at Cannes later this month before hitting theaters nationwide.
The Green Knight - Dev Patel leads the charge in this highly anticipated medieval epic from director David Lowrey and co-starring Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, and Sean Harris. The film tells the 14th-century story of Sir Gawain, the nephew of King Arthur, on his quest to confront the Green Knight. The movie looks bonkers. Check it out in theaters.
Nine Days - Winston Duke, Zazie Beetz, Benedict Wong, and Bill Skarsgård star in this supernatural drama that made a big splash at Sundance in January 2020. Now the film is finally seeing a limited release this month, before a wide release on August 6th.
Now for a quick look ahead to August, my top picks for next month are The Suicide Squad, Free Guy, and Reminiscence.

Killer Joe Movie Review
Okay okay, my brain is still reeling from that ending.....like what?!  Yes this review will definitely have spoilers and is probably going to be more like a gossip chat, but hopefully we can get some pros and cons going.
Be warned, this movie IS NOT! I REPEAT, IS NOOOOOOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART.  (also don’t watch it with your children or parents)
To start off, you get flashed by a woman and a lot of pubic hair in the first 15 minutes.  In the first 45 minutes there are contextual clues that there’s an incestual relationship going on.  Okay okay..... I guess it’s the movie and we can deal with it as long as there’s some kind of story right? Right.
Honestly, this is just a fucked up situation where the system fails it people and due to lack of education, and they are doing the best they can.  The sad part is - thoughts, situations, and life probably happen like this all of the time.
The cast; from “alright, alright, alright” to a power hungry rapist cop, Matthew McConoughey never ceases to amaze. ( If you haven’t read his new book Greenlight it might shed some light onto his career choices). Needless to say, he played this sceezy role to perfection. Honesty, this story had an all star cast!  From the fed up wife/stepmom Sharla - Gina Gershun, the idiot cowardly father Ansel -  Thomas Haden Church, the dreamer of a son who just couldn’t catch a break Chris, Emil Hirsh, and finally the abused daughter who is the crown jewel Dotty, Juno Temple.  They made this relatable, and fast paced.
As far as storylines go, everything seemed to meld it just feels like so many details of her life could have been brought to life. Dotty’s character was entirely believable it just feels like there are so many details of her life that could have been laid out.  Like we WANT to know more as to why she is the way she is... OR maybe not.  Maybe the amount of illusiveness and imagination is exactly what the story needed.  I just really hope that she pulled the trigger at the end.
Shots; this movie has a very raw feel to it, maybe my DPs, directors, and film friends can better describe what I’m trying to convey.  But there are a lot of cut scenes and shaky shots.  A lot of random close ups that align with the movie.  Most times that would really bother me, but it really worked with everything going on.  If it was done on purpose it worked.  If it wasn’t GREAT JOB!
Hats off to you guys.
