The inevitable summer.. The virus will be gone within a few months, and everybody will eventually get back to work. But do not be mistaken, the fear will linger. Businesses will lie low for a few quarters or maybe more if things slip into recession. God forbid! In response to that, the Board of Directors across corporate will be forced to resort to mass lay-offs to spruce-up bottom lines. Anxiety and fear will pervade most staff across titles. This time, the exercise will be all the more tormenting as it will be widespread. Every organization will jump on the lay-off bandwagon. The unfortunate ones may not have an alternate job for months for no fault of theirs. Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. And that time is NOW. I sincerely urge corporate management (Chairmen, Presidents, MDs, EDs and the like) to start thinking of innovative measures rather than the obvious ones. Across-the-board salary adjustments is one, but you'll know of better options, goal being - let's not have few bear the full brunt of a freak virus outbreak in these strange times. Actions speak louder than words, and I believe it is an excellent opportunity for us to take members of the staff on-board and show them that we care.
