1, 9, 13, 19 for the end of year asks!! :D
Song of the year Two of them! Both of them are from Sofia the First, and both FRIGGING GO HARD (especially the second one). King Cedric the Great and My Evil Dreams
Best month for you this year
December (this very month XD), because I haven't been this motivated to write since 2021! My introduction to Sofia the First, especially Cedric, inspired me to write a wip that's gotten AMAZING reception so far. The first four chapters are well over 20, 000 words!
How was your birthday this year?
Pretty good! Went to Olive Garden.
What are you excited about for next year?
Finally making real progress (and maybe even finishing) on my other DT wips 'Circumstances and Control' and 'Astro B.O.Y.D.' - Inside Out'!!

11, 14, 16, and 18 for the end of year asks
Oh dear, not only me just now getting to these😅
11. Something you want to do again next year?
If at all possible, I would love to make another 18th c. gown next year. This year was my first time working in that era, and I really enjoyed the end result! Would love to try maybe a Redingote or a robe a l'anglaise.
14. Favorite book you read this year?
Hands down, Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. It was so beautiful, and elegantly articulated some of my own feelings about human beings an our relationship to our landscapes. About halfway through reading it, I started to limit myself to only one essay a day to make the experience of reading the book last as long as possible.
16. Post a picture from the beginning of the year
Tumblr media
Most of my pictures from January 2023 are of my cats! These two are brothers from the same litter. The orange one is Hazel, and the grey one is Thistle. Collectively, they are known as the Disgusting Brothers.
18. A memorable meal this year?
For St. Patrick's Day this year, I corned by own brisket to make corned beef for the first time (as opposed to getting a corned beef brisket at the supermarket that's already been spiced and cured). It was divine. I have never had a more flavorful corned beef. My partner and I both absolutely adored it. Suffice to say, I will be corning my own beef every year going forward. And for anyone wondering, it was incredibly easy to do! The biggest challenge is making sure you prep everything in time because it does take about 10 days to fully corn (and no, no idea if I'm using that verb correctly).
These were so fun, thank you for sending them!

Hi!! How about 19 and 21 for the end of year asks?
Hello!
19. I'm excited for turning 30, I think? I hate numbers that end in 9, they make me uncomfortable.
21 is quite extensive for me. I don't have a fiancée, for one. A good deal of the furniture is different, new to me or painted. The decor is different. It's brighter, lots of bold colors. Lots of yellow, which is shocking to me that I like it now because I have a complicated history with yellow. I'm choosing joy over prestige, which is a strange thing for my decorating choices. I've also learned how to not kill every plant under my watch. It's also cleaner.
Thanks for asking!!

10, 18, 22 for end of year
10. Something that made you cry this year?
Happy cry, but Luz’s reunion with Eda and King in the finale of The Owl House. Everything I would’ve hoped for it.
18. A memorable meal this year?
Going out to dinner with my friend and his wife the night they got married. We, along with a few others, went to a bar just off of Harvard Square. We had some drinks (including me having my first cocktail) and a bit of food.
22. Favorite place you visited this year?
There were quite a few for me, but in terms of a somewhat new experience: when I went to the beach this summer, my mom and I visited a nearby coastal town one of the days, and we saw saltwater taffy being made in a storefront. Afterwards, we bought an assortment for ourselves (and my dad).

17 and 18 for the End of Year asks!
17. What is the biggest creative hurdle you had to overcome last year? What helped you through it?
Ahhhh! Too many! My education/job history was very scientific and succinct and dry whenever I had to write (think lots of documentation/research). So I really am trying to shed those old habits (which die hard lol) because I know a lot of times my fics devolve into more "telling" the action rather than the creative, fun, showy visuals. BUT that particular hurdle I’ve tried to overcome by getting back into reading gen fiction, pay attention to techniques of other fanfic authors, and generally be more patient with myself when a scene isn’t working. All about that learning life :)
18. Can you pick a line/image fragment/etc of your work that encapsulates the last year best for you?
I did pick one here for a different ask. But I’ll share another good bit from all good dates begin at the cemetery, which is one of my favorite fics from this year!
“God, I hate that I’m complaining to you. I shouldn’t complain and seem ungrateful for everything I have…that I’m alive.” Chrissy’s face shifted between guilt and pain, her forehead wrinkling with concern. “But it’s so hard doing this without you. I swear…. I swear when she’s looking at me, really staring for a while, she sees your eyes in mine. And when Mom realizes I’m not actually you, it’s like… you died all over again. She tries to control everything to be ‘just so’, in order to feel that momentary bliss again…. the fantasy that you might still be here, not me.”
Thank you love for these ones :) appreciate ya so much this year!

11, 13 and 19 for the end of year ask game? :)
Haha- I already answered 19 but thank you so much for the ask!!
11.) Something you want to do again next year?
Oh, definitely going on long random impulsive adventures whenever I'm bored. (Ik this seems like a weird response but hear me out). Just giving into that urge to myself when I say, "I wish I could go do x y and z..." like- getting up and just going out. Even if that's just on a little bike ride to walmart or something. Giving into that small impulsive urge to go do stuff. It's so much fun and freeing.
Like just trusting my gut intuition and getting out of my apartment more. It helps w my mental health.
Also want to buy more manga, vinyl, and games next year too. AND write.
13.) How was your birthday this year?
Honestly, I had the best birthday I had in a few years. I didn't cry on this one!! And this girl I knew stayed up till midnight in my timezone (one hour difference) and told me happy birthday LIKE RIGHT AT MIDNIGHT.
Like?? Dude. That's my move w ppl. The fact that someone matched that energy was so cool. I saw both of my parents and I bought manga and got to go to my local game store. Good one for sure.
THANK YOU FOR THE ASK.

Hi! ^.^
4. Favorite book in your target language that you read this year?
神去なあなあ日常 (The Easy Life in Kamusari) by Miura Shion
I'm not technically finished with this book, but I did read some of it this year... That counts, right? ^.^ And it was the book that I liked the most of the few that I read this year. I found the reading challenging but the story was fun, and I am reading it in English too.

5 12 and 20 for end of year asks :)
TV show of the year?
Sofia the First! I only discovered it in November, mainly through a video analyzing what an amazing character Cedric is (who is my main blorbo at the moment, next to Gyro from DuckTales 2017).
Talk about a new friend you made this year
Ooooh, my entry into the Sofia the First fandom (particularly the Cedric sub-fandom) allowed me to befriend the super nice and amazing @bettathanyou and @fantadym! I was nervous to interact with them, because I've had lousy luck making connections in fandoms with people who love the same characters as me (I always seem to try too hard because of my lousy social skills, driving others away), but one of them reached out to me first. And I've been enjoying sharing my hcs and analysis posts with them, and they've been huge sources of motivation for my Cedric wip!
What's something you learned this year?
Sofia the First isn't a baby show, and Cedric (who I wasn't familiar with at all until November) is one of the most amazing characters I've ever come across. But more importantly, I've learned to be a little kinder to myself ever since I deleted my old Tumblr and AO3 (so glad I recovered all my old stories and posts, and came back) in a fit of depression and insecurity/anxiety back in March.

4, 24 and 24 please - I'm always after fic recs 😍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hello, my darling! I'm finally here for to answer these asks and I'm excited. I'm guessing you didn't mean to put 24 in twice but I'm not sure which third one you wanted so feel free to get back to me with that, haha.
4. Total number of words you wrote this year According to AO3 it is 471,182 words which seems ridiculous but it is in fact true. It does include my R/S Big Bang fic which is not yet revealed (it will be posted in January) and additionally I have roughly 50k more of The Patchwork of Us where I've only shared the first chapter.
24. Favourite fic you read this year I really need to get much better at keeping track of what I read during the year, that will be my resolution for 2024. Anyway, one of the fics I've been most obsessed by this year is right back where we started from by @soloorganaas. I am not kidding when I say obsessed, I mean obsessed. I honestly don't have words for how much I love this. It's a WIP and not yet finished but you do yourself a favour and tag along for the ride because it is a bloody masterpiece and I'M SO FUCKING INVESTED in it.
Let's do the end of year fanfic ask game - send me an ask based on the game and I'll reply!

No worries, friend! I am often late too
9) uhhhhh that's a hard thing to say. June maybe? I think there were a few good days that made up for so many bad moments.
11) I want to go to the Met! Visit friends. Cook for friends. Brasideia, maybe? Oh, I want to do another local art sale again! I just did one and it was super rewarding.
Thanks for asking!!

1, 4, and 13 for the end of the year asks?
thank you for this!! answering literally the following year:
#1: what was your writing-highlight this year?
oh my god, highlight was when The Book Burrow met Travis Baldree (author of Legends and Lattes) and gave him a copy of A Rival Most Vial with a handwritten note saying "we think you would really like this." internally, I'm still screaming about it.
#4: what is your favorite line you wrote this year?
oh man, if it's something from this year, that means I have to pick something from The Spirit Well! let me go back through the draft...
does it count if it's two lines? idk if it's my ultimate favorite, but I do really like it:
The farmhand said nothing, slouched in gloom and silence. The bard, having a personal distaste for the former and a professional distaste for the latter, wouldn’t stand for it.
#13: how did you change as a writer?
I really hope I improved! I studied plot structure a lot more while working on The Spirit Well, and even though editing TSW was difficult, I'm hoping I learned a lot from that and can make A Captured Cauldron an easier experience.

For the end of year creator's ask game, 9 and 18?
9. Have you found any new inspirations this year? Is there anyone you would like to say thank you to?
This year I went from hellcheer monogamous to shipping chrissy with like anyone and everyone 😂
Extra special though was that I published my first nonhellcheer fic w/ jonathan x chrissy (which I know you're very familiar with 🥰) so firstly, thank you for reading and leaving so many kind comments about my work, they've been amazing!
I'd also thank my rarepair queen @1lostsoul0fishbowl for giving me the confidence to post a pairing outside my usual wheelhouse!
18. Can you pick a line/image fragment/etc of your work that encapsulates the last year best for you?
This little vignette snippet is from my fic- not a sound, but the wind. I think this is pretty good rep of the softness in my writing from this year :
“I kissed you–” Another blink, but that wide smile staked permanent claim to his face, practically meeting the edges of his cheeks. “I kissed Chrissy Cunningham."
He flopped on his back over the mattress, raising a hand to his head in a mocking imitation of one damsel in distress.
“I kissed Eddie Munson.” Chrissy sing-songed back, scooching closer to his side. Her hand tangled in his comforter with her desperation not to be so far from him again. Her free hand touched her lips, checking to see if her split had opened during their kiss. “Was that so bad?”
Thank you for the ask! These were super thought provoking and allowed me to really reflect back on my year of writing in 2023🥰💗
Ask me something if you're bored like us😜 : 2023 recap ask game
