Spock leads the way taking reading from his tricorder.  occasional glance behind notes that Jim is following.   attention is taken towards his readings until there is a sound of rocks beginning to crumble and fall   ---------   he rushes forward,    hand reaching for Jim in order to pull them safely.   a moment as the dust settles,   he is pressed up against his captain.   close enough to feel the rise and fall of their chest and the warmth of their skin.   palms pressed together.

❝   I trust you are undamaged?   ❞     hand still grips theirs.   he does not notice as their palms touch until he begins to feel through touch,    sensing feelings that were not his own.   yet,   Spock loathed to break the contact initially,   however,   he must.   fingers unclasp,   hand is withdrawn and he begins to gently take a step back.   the contact lost,   he mourns for it,   but realizes they must have space.
