Save us
The following is a journal entry about the sixth module of the NSTP class dated October 28, 2019. The speaker was Engr. Kristian July R Yap.
As we have been given free rein with how the entry is written (and because I would hate for it to be JUST an informative essay), I will be writing this entry (and most of my entries) with creative liberty.
Word count:  116 words
Not everything goes on forever From our food to our water Some things aren’t sustainable And there comes a time where resources aren’t stable
We try to find a way to survive But all we do is thrive We keep thinking that it’s okay But not everything is gonna stay Fires,  floods, melting of ice Each year a new problem will arise And yet all we do is to share things online We don’t even acknowledge what is on the line Save the earth because we need it No, save us because the earth can survive without us on it We have to try to the best of our ability Because this is a social responsibility

Journal Entry #6 - Environmental Protection and Management
likas na yaman • n.
source of wealth that occurs naturally
materials or substances such as minerals, forests, water, and fertile land that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain.
production resources
As someone who studies under the landscape architecture program, if I were to drink a glass of water every time the word “sustainable” is mentioned during in one of my major classes, I would be waterlogged and be fully hydrated for the next 3 semesters. It’s just that we are always task to serve everyone a design not only aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, but is also sturdy enough to stand for years to come.
The discussion for this talk was pretty self-explanatory backed up with the alarming statistics of effects why should we help conserve not only land, water, air, but also our resources in general. Pollution is the main problem why we are not able to improve in different aspects of the environment for they are the main focus of projects instead of creating something that could benefit both the place and the people inhabiting the place.
In helping create an environment suitable for people, animals, plants, and organisms alike, discipline is a must especially for the people who are only temporarily using the place for their residences. We should always instill in ourselves that every small action counts and creates a ripple to affect every aspect of creating the ideal environment we all want.
If not taken care of properly, it might end up like this 2009 hit that could harm and contaminate not only our resources but also our health.

NSTP Blog #7
This is a really timely topic especially given the post of the UN stating that we only have 12 years to avert dire climate change consequences. I feel really sad and disappointed in humanity. The very cynical and negative part of me believes that we deserve this. In all the chaos that we’re living in and all the mess that we’re making we probably should just stop and leave the Earth alone. But the other part of me wants to believe that because of this situation, people will be called to action and unite to help the Earth. Humanity may be flawed but I refuse to believe that the only thing we can do is destroy. We have done so many wonderful things and maybe we just needed this wake up call to make a better living.
Our family was very environmentally conscious from the start because my grandparents were botanists. We have a compost pit in our back yard where we putout biodegradable trash in and also segregate our trash. I’m really thankful for my parents raising us this way because being mindful became second nature to us and now my sister has been influencing our family to live a zero waste life. We try to minimize as much plastic and trash as we can y using eco bags for groceries and bringing our own tupperwares and baskets when we buy at the palengke. We’ve been doing it our whole lives so I can’t understand why it’s so difficult for other people. Why is it so hard to put your trash in your bag? Why is it so hard to not litter? Why do people have this urge to just throw their garbage on the streets? Why can’t people value nature after all that its provided for us? I really hope people can be more mindful of how they act and teach the people they see that are doing wrong. We all have to pitch in to make a difference. If not for ourselves, then at least for the generations to follow.
