SORRY I MEANT TO FOLLOW UP EARLIER but I got caught up in talking about The One And Only Thing I've ever added to Jo's backstory and gotten invested in so I lost track of time 😭BUT NO YEAH GOING THROUGH THE LIST WAS A 10/10 EXPERIENCE... I just really enjoy your commentary and seeing your takeaways so I don't need anything In-Depth to have a good time, even just finding out what your faves are is pretty neat; as a guide I definitely think it sells the works while setting realistic expectations overall :] On That Note would love to hear your thoughts on the movie!

In the summer of 1983, when she was a senior in high school, she auditioned for “Teens Pop '83” sponsored by CBS Sony.(BOMB86 p28) Her favorite and most popular idol at the time, Matsuda Seiko, was affiliated with CBS Sony, and she thought she might be able to meet Matsuda, which was the reason she applied.(BOMB86 p28) She placed second at the audition, behind Sawada Tamae, who was five years younger than her.(BOMB86 p28) This led to her becoming a member of CBS Sony.(BOMB86 p28) She was scheduled to make her record debut as a solo artist before she became a member of Onyanko Club.(OnyankoC p35) However, CBS Sony changed course and entered her in a contest called "The Scout - Search for an Idol" for its variety show "Yuyake Nyan Nyan". She earned above 100 points, the required passage mark, and was therefore selected as a member of Onyanko Club.(BOMB86 p28) To be clear, this contest was blatantly staged.(OnyankoC p35) On the surface, the contest was supposed to be a five-day competition among five amateur girls who would compete in a variety of judging processes, the results of which would determine the winner(s).(BOMB86 p28) In reality, however, it was a fixed game like pro wrestling in which girls who were already affiliated with a record company or entertainment agency, as she was, were selected.(Tōkō85) There were occasionally girls like Nagata Ruriko and Yamamoto Susan Kumiko who didn't fit into those hidden criteria who were accepted, but the fact remains that the contest was basically staged.(Tōkō85) Chosen under the common interest of CBS Sony and Fuji TV, it was already decided when she was accepted that she would be the very first to make her solo debut as a member of Onyanko Club.(OnyankoB p35) Most agree that she was the most beautiful among the members of Onyanko Club.(BOMB87 p131) Unlike many of the other members, she was also considered a relatively good singer.(OnyankoC P35) However, Nitta Eri, who was way too far from beautiful and had a terrible singing voice, was the most popular member, and Kawai was second to her.(OnyankoC P18) The records of Onyanko Club itself were released by Pony Canyon, an affiliate of Fujisankei Communications Group, to which Fuji TV belongs.(OnyankoB P183) Therefore, unlike Nitta, she was never the main vocalist on Onyanko Club songs.(OnyankoB P183) Some time after she graduated from Onyanko Club, she refused to appear on TV and started to lead a life as follows.(Rumors p60) "Every day I sleep until after noon and spend the rest of the day doing nothing. When I get tired of that, I go shopping. When I get tired of that, I keep looking at the ocean". She wasn't so attached to the entertainment industry and was a character known as Fushigi-chan(Note that Fushigi-chan means a woman who repeatedly says and does mysterious things based on her unique personality and sensibilities).(OnyankoC p35) The following episode is typical of her nature.(OnyankoC p25) One time when she was a member of Onyanko Club, she went to a sushi restaurant with some people from the program. An old-fashioned sushi chef repeatedly warned her about the rudely way of ordering sea urchin, her favorite food, but she refused to change her attitude, while glaring at the chef. He was amazed by her that he asked Kasai Kazuji, the chief director of the program, who was sitting next to her, “You haven't educated this girl very well, have you?" Kasai laughingly justified her attitude by saying, “there's no problem cuz she's an ETI(Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence)".

Summary:

Yousuke Yamamoto's life has gone downhill following the death of a close friend, becoming a series of monotonous days that he lives through without motivation. On a freezing night, Yousuke crosses paths with a girl named Eri Yukisaki—only for an abnormally tall, chainsaw-wielding individual to suddenly appear and start attacking her. Despite the frightening sight, Yousuke is enthralled to see Eri fight and becomes eager to help her. Almost killed in the process, he is luckily saved by the girl as the man flees.

Yousuke learns that Eri is a senior at his school, and while she is unaware of the man's identity, she can sense where he will appear at night and has obtained extraordinary strength to counter him. Because of her newfound powers, Eri feels that it is her responsibility to stop the man from hurting others. Having finally regained interest in life, Yousuke pesters Eri to make him her partner, which she eventually agrees to.

Although Yousuke does not prove to be very useful, Eri is happy to have him by her side. As their bond grows stronger, the eccentric pair gradually come closer to defeating the man—however, it seems Eri is still hiding a significant secret.
