STAR WARS EPISODE I: The Phantom Menace 01:27:57
The screen Lott Dod is touching here seems to match these acetate prop screens that @aurekfonts clued me into awhile back: https://t.co/PophrlMbXD

can we talk about nute gunray?
Tumblr media
According to Wookiepedia: Nute Gunray was a Neimoidian male politician and business magnate who served as the Viceroy of the Trade Federation during the final decades of the Galactic Republic up until his assassination at the end of the Clone Wars, a pan-galactic war between the Republic and its splinter state, the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Alongside his allies, Gunray rose to prominence after the ill-fated Eriadu Conference left a power vacuum in the leadership of the Trade Federation. With backing from the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, Gunray took control of the conglomerate. Cutthroat and cowardly, Gunray continued to collaborate with Sidious, such as during the Invasion of Naboo the following year, unaware that he was merely a pawn in the Sith's Grand Plan. Not really much to discuss. I feel like it is obvious

the living force takes place near the end of 7944.
Tumblr media
which means 7944, now, essentially goes:
republic intervention ends the kaleesh-yam'rii war (ig-100 droids, built at grievous's request, have been manufactured by the time of the xrexus cartel's capture of eldra kaitis. grievous's shuttle has not yet been sabotaged to ensure his transformation into a cyborg).
holonet news runs an exposé on corruption in the senate (c. 7944.169.1 / 02.22), focusing on high-ranked connections with the pyke syndicate (supposition: a committee forms to deal with the fallout and potential underworld gang war).
plo koon retrieves ahsoka tano from shili (legends addenda: in the wake of the yinchorri uprising, given that 1. plo was involved with the mission to yinchorri space; 2. shili is very close to yinchorr). this is around the beginning of 33BBY (03.09).
sifo-dyas contacts the kaminoans to commission an army for the jedi order. soon after, his shuttle is shot down by the pyke syndicate over the oba diah moon.
the eriadu conference (assassination of non-human members of the board of the trade federation. legends addenda: placed at the mid-point of 33BBY [32.5BBY], c. 08.08).
lott dod replaces nute gunray as senator for the trade federation; gunray becomes viceroy of the trade federation (presumably in wake of the eriadu assassinations).
the xrexus cartel auctions off captured padawan eldra kaitis.
the high council decamps for kwenn ('months' beforer the phantom menace, but also close enough to the end of the year for there to be a final list of senate recommendations, re: assets of the jedi order).
republic senate passes proposition 31-814d, instituting taxation of the formerly free trade zones (legends addenda: roughly a month after the eriadu conference).
the trade federation threatens to begin blockading planets in retribution for taxation. this occurs around the same time as the failure of the nautolan-anselmi peace treaty (legends addenda: valorum is placed under investigation for corruption and his powers limited).

I’m watching the first episode of Rebels Season 3 and Pryce just walked up to the conference table Tarkin was sitting at and leaned on it and demanded the 7th fleet and I was like “it’s them!”
It is so obvious now that they have a history, a familiarity. And she’s so… Pryce. Straight backed until she needs someone who sees the bigger picture and then she leans over casually, comfortably, an act to get what she wants.
I love her ruthlessness. I love knowing that he got her the governorship of Lothal and she spent time on Eriadu and she had known Thrawn for so much longer than that. And I’m going to be so happy to finally see Yularen on screen with Pryce and Thrawn knowing… what I know now. Just the Thrawn 2017 gang on screen as I’ve seen them for years but now I KNOW.
(Ouch, space son just told space dad he didn’t need him)

What I meant was, if you look at ‘Cloak of Deception’ as context, from Valorum’s point of view, or anyone else that didn’t know of Palpatine’s hand in the schemes. The blame for the Naboo crisis can go all around the establishment on Coruscant. I meant that Valorum had a hand in that end result of thousands starving on his friend’s homeworld. And in a way, he was very much responsible for the way things devolved.
From the Jedi’s inability to provide adequate security for the conference on Eriadu to Valorum’s compliance and eagerness towards taxation and the Senates’s approval of the TF military upgrade.
I mean, what kind of political strategy is this? Approve a military upgrade, providing them with the means to protest and then talk about taxation? That’s bad planning for any political agenda.
The Naboo crisis was very much the cumulation of all the faults within the GFFA. Does this make sense?
Now I feel bad for Valorum :(
Well, to befair, he wasn’t a particularly great Chancellor either so it’s not like he wasgoing to save the galaxy. I mean, the worst part of his removal was what itmeant for the entire galaxy. On a personal level, what does makes me feel badfor him was Padmé’s “betrayal”. Can you imagine going out of your way to help aplanet only to have the queen turn on you and demand your removal? Cold!
