Relatively recently, a UbiSoft press kit circa 1999 was found. As Ubisoft published Evolution: The World of Sacred Device in the west, it contains artwork used for the game's promotion.
This includes certain pieces of art that were rarely released in good quality or on their own.

Quickest doodle of the og shy girl and ocarina player of my jrpg childhood. (I dug up my gamecube stuff last month.)
[ID: A digital illustration of Linear from the game Evolution Worlds. She has long blonde hair tied back with a large purple bow and a shy smile. She wears her classic adventuring outfit: an oversized grey jacket layered over a dark blue sleeveless romper. She poses with her hands making a heart shape close to her chest.]

Art tag list: @bloodlessheirbyjacques @magefaery @hakbot and (in this case) @thegoddesswater
I pushed through finish it just because. I really wanted to.
Theo as Mag, Francis as Linear, Edward as Gre, Jack as Carcano, and Cecil as Pepper, characters from this game which, as I mentioned before, I have been obsessed with for nearly 20 years:
Tumblr media
rambling and official character portraits below:
I got the idea to do this because I thought the relationship between Edward and Theo was very similar to the relationship between Gre and Mag and I could not get the image out of my head, and also the idea of drawing Cecil as Pepper was incredibly funny to me
and also also because I've just loved this game for such a long time that drawing fanart of it just kind of seemed right even if it's a crossover like this
putting official character art below, all these characters are great but I adore Linear and Pepper is just…the greatest, probably part of my gay awakening to be honest
the coloration of the various parts of their outfits varies by which piece of official art you're looking at, so I just made decisions on some of them :3 (and as previously stated I left off the cyframes because I did not want to draw the machines)

I wish I remembered what happened to the copy of Evolution: World of Sacred Device that my brother and I owned. I hope we didn’t trade it in to Game Crazy for credit, way back when.
Still have Evolution Worlds, though. Guess that counts for something.
Anyway, this one’s on the other site, too.

I only have two problems with Evolution Worlds: the 1st is that it's way too short and the 2nd is that you can only bring 3 characters with you in your party because this is the greatest cast of freaks ever assembled and the fact that I have to pick and choose is criminal
Tumblr media
Since you have to have Mag, and I always also brought Linear, I would switch the 3rd slot between Pepper and Gre (because at one point Linear gets kidnapped and if you don't have another character leveled up you'll be in trouble)
But I want to bring them all. I was never fully able to appreciate Chain because I'm a big lesbian and Pepper is hot, and Linear is Daughter(tm), and also Gre is the funniest video game character to play as.

Good heavens, look at the time: It's "Talk About RPGs Few People Give A Rat's Ass About" O'Clock.
So, I played a bit of the original Evolution: The World of Sacred Device and one of the things that stuck out to me compared to Evolution 2: Far Off Promise is the dungeon aesthetics design, particularly in the room designs. I've seen footage of Sacred Device's later dungeons, and it's not uniform (not even in the dungeon above), but it stuck out to me that the Sheol Ruins had sections that weren't "boxed in" so to speak).
By contrast, Far Off Promise's dungeons don't have that "open space aspect that Sacred Device's dungeons sometimes had, though the overall level design is varied (due to being specifically placed rather than procedural generation).

(The screenshot is from the first dungeon of Worlds, but said dungeon is based on Far Off Promise's Tower of Despair. Either way, you get the point).

Here's a sketch of Linear Cannon, from Evolution Worlds. I thought she was cute, and I've always liked the healer characters.

Deity who's unacquainted with concept of evolution creating a world with, like, twelve different kinds of creatures, thinking "yes, that's a good number – nice and symmetrical", then going on vacation for a couple million years and being very upset at what's waiting for them when they get back.
