in defence of the eurovision jury

sweden winning and always getting so many points isnt wholly the eurovision jurys fault, and believe me im not saying this to go boohoo people are mean to us about winning, i think käärijä shouldve won too and that tattoo was a very mid song but acknowledge that it got second place out of the popular vote and thus wasnt 100% a jury favourite

the reason im defending the eurovision jury is because i think every single person mad at sweden for being the jurys specialest little girl should redirect that anger to THE SWEDISH JURY, the jury in our national competition (melodifestivalen) isnt like polands where industry people judge the song, our jury for our national competition is a peer review. 5-10 countries that voted for the winner in the previous eurovision are invited to the finale and hold 50% of the voting power over what we send to eurovision, this is why the jury loves us and why WE hate the jury; they sack some really beloved songs in order to not bring daddy SVT shame in the music department

you could solve the eurovision jury problem in two ways:

1: remove the jury - this is a shit idea because of a thing our news reported on; the finnish commentators saying to not vote for sweden in the televote and sweden recieving a 0 from finland in the televote, true or otherwise this is something that could and has happened (which is why we currently have the jury and televote set up in eurovision that we do) so removing the jury entirely seems less than ideal

2: every country does the peer review - terrible idea because now everyone has mid songs that are rarely allowed to be wild and usually has to be in english (guys we are dying the jury hates native language songs)

3: pressure SVT (our national television agency) to change our national jury - personally i dont want the jury gone entirely, just have them have less than 50% of the voting power, this means that sweden wont be as beloved by the eurovision jury and it means that we might get to send some actually fun songs as well that the viewers like

okay im still thinking about eurovision so heres my thing. sweden will be great hosts, they always do a great job. itll be really fun to have it in sweden for the 50 years of abba winning. loreen's song wasnt terrible.

however, what i'm against is the manipulation in order to make that happen. they shouldve chosen a better song, or just requested that the winner does a tribute to abba even if its not sweden. loreen did not win the fan vote, she didn't get 12 points from fans from ANY country - she only won because of the juries pushing her forward. and thats no hate to loreen, but to the jury system. Käärijä won for Finland, but they gave the title to Sweden in order to fit their planned schedule.
