Can I be one the trusts, and trusts and only when you are constantly showed that I cannot trust I begin to change. As my years of life and experiences around me produced a distrusting starting point. It always difficult to flow with people will demand loyalty but never extended in any way.ĭo I come from a trusting position of distrust in. Why can’t a bit the truth is celebrated so that people will enjoy truth at all times.Īm I the kind of person that people will feel my kindness, graciousness, forgiveness, do they know I will always have their best in mind. For this kind of person becomes the dominant that sits on top. “ love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truths”Ĭan people be honest and open with any one of us? it’s lonely influencers/leaders who do not have people around them will open up their hearts and share correctly and accurately truth. Why tell them and remind people of their failures of past constantly, I mind the epitome of forgiveness. “that’s the… time you’ve done that said that”, “how many times… I remember the last time, and the time before”. Is my life cultivated from being constantly angry? People afraid to bring me information that is true about me because they know I will lose my cool. What I give my time to, how I invest myself always and really about? Am I the one that blanks people, do people get a calm cold response from me? Is my insecurity so great I’m sharp with people?
#Face2face talent how to#
I’m the one that knows how to do it, I am the one in the church/organisations that has the answer, you need to worship like me, think like me, preach like me?Īs soon as I hear an idea I don’t like to I cut them off mid-sentence. I got it, “you need to come to me to see how it’s done” I was once told. If we are so obsessed with what I’ve done in the past then to be honest would really not advancing towards anything at all. Some people find themselves unable to live in their current condition because those who suggests their mature, project the superiority perceive you as a threat.Īm I the kind of person that always wants to tell people of my previous achievements, that I almost had gone what I’ve done to every comment. When that great idea is suggested, when someone gets promoted what my inner attitude like? Do I find a jealous streak arising when a great ideas shared, constantly perceiving others threatening me. So let’s consider…ĭo I give others the same room that I want them to give me? When mistakes are made, advances are taken?ĭo the people I hang out with actually like being around me? Is appointed thought ask yourself how much do people asked to be with me outside of my work, outside of responsibility? I really do think that this passage was not return for wedding ceremonies, although can be used and is good but it really was more written for the church family life and for those that were taking responsibility and leadership and mature in the body of Christ. I would even suggest I am struggling to see its relevance at weddings really, it was around a table, at gathering of the church family this was to be effectively encountered This LOVE… I know that most of us have either read or heard it read at weddings, but I’m suggesting that we regain its significance and took this very same passage and applied it to our influence, leadership, common conduct for the common good. Perhaps 1 Corinthians 13 sits in its correct setting? The passage is sandwiched between two chapters one having to do with spiritual gifts and the other to do with the speaking in tongues. I am told a diamond truly only comes into its own when it’s in its correct setting. It’s interesting as you read 1 Corinthians 13, as it turns our mind towards love where it is rested. When we see the authority of the Scripture as being something to hold to it’s still amazing of where we find certain passages situated. It’s quite amazing as you read through the scriptures how the bible is tied together and flows together considering so many people put pen to paper over so many years.

How Pearl Hobson the “Mulatto Sharpshooter” became the most popular African-American dancer & singer in Imperial Russia in the 1900s
Tumblr media
Face2Face Africa article
Pearl Hobson was among a number of African-American performers who left the United States in the 1900s to somewhat escape racism. At the time, groups like the Fisk Jubilee Singers were making waves abroad due to the popularity of African-American culture through performance art. Hobson also wanted to profit from the situation. And so she did as she became the most popular African-American dancer and singer in Imperial Russia.
The “Mulatto Sharpshooter,” as she was known, wowed elite audiences from St. Petersburg to Moscow by 1909 while living much of this period in Odessa, Ukraine in Southern Russia, as stated by one account. Not much is known about Hobson’s background. Born on July 7, 1879 in Lisbon, Bedford County, Virginia — even though some say she was born in Roanoke, Virginia — she worked as a maid before becoming a member of the Fencing Musketeers (also known as the Fencing Octoroons and Les Mousquetaires Noirs) which consisted of 11 Black women.
It is not known exactly when Hobson left the U.S. although official records cited by BlackPast show that she arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark by April 1904 as part of an African-American dance troupe. The troupe would tour St. Petersburg, Russia at a time when scores of African-American professionals were already in Russia, particularly in its western cities. There were Black entertainers such as Black Troubadours, Darktown Entertainers, the Black Diamonds, and Minnie Brown, an actress and singer who “saw herself as a rival” to Hobson between 1915 to 1916.
Hobson did earn wide acclaim thanks to African-American entertainment impresario Frederick Bruce Thomas, who started work as a waiter after arriving in Moscow in 1899. Thomas, by 1904, was the owner of Yar, one of Moscow’s most celebrated restaurants. Acquiring Russian citizenship and changing his name to Fyodor Fyodorovich Tomas, he noticed the amazing talent of Hobson and started featuring her in his restaurant while managing her career.
Not too long after, Hobson became loved by many including those in high society as she started attending films, symphonies, operas while performing in Russian, French and German to thousands of people. Soon, her posters were almost everywhere, describing her as Russia’s “Mulatto Sharpshooter”.
“Beautiful young Miss Pearl Hobson is the best decoration of the stage. Her success grows every day, and she is beloved by the public…” Russian newspaper Moscow Leaf wrote about Hobson on December 3, 1907.
She did make money from her fame. A report states that by the beginning of 1910, she was living in a luxurious apartment at 20 Kamennoostrovsky Prospect, which had a team of servants. The popular Aquarium Theatre was not far from her home, and “between the nonstop masquerade balls, fireworks and festivals, Pearl sang beautiful Russian Romances and performed her dramatically orchestrated dances nightly at the most fashionable venue in the capital of the Russian Empire,” the report added.
It was during this period that she met Count Alexander Sheremetev, a Russian composer, conductor and entrepreneur. He had a relationship with her and would help her become a “well-received singer and ballet dancer” who headlined nightly at the Aquarium Theatre.
Many Black artists learned Russian and took Russian citizenship but Hobson did not. In July 1916, she filed her last application for the extension of her American passport and left Russia. Historians do not know much about her life after she left Russia although some say she adopted four children in 1918 before her death on June 4, 1919, at age 39.

What We Can Learn from PCMA’s Convening Leaders 2018
This past week I had the privilege of attending PCMA’s Convening Leaders Conference in Nashville, TN along with over 4,000 meeting professionals.  The schedule was packed with thought provoking speakers and topics, however, it didn’t take long for me to realize I could learn a whole lot without attending a single session. Everywhere I looked, I was impressed with the design of this conference. PCMA outdid themselves by creating spaces for collaboration and fun areas for networking. Interwoven were delightful surprises that left attendees feeling pampered and appreciated. Here are some of my favorite elements (with pictures)...
Maximize the Space Can you have multiple speaker sessions taking place at the same time in the same room? According to PCMA, yes! In the Face2Face Event Technology area, attendees could grab head phones and tune into the presentation of their choosing simply by selecting a channel. This allowed multiple presenters to share their knowledge (without audio amplification) and still be heard by their audience. The audience could also move between presentations happening simultaneously by simply changing their channel.
Get Your Portrait Done…In Coffee! This was my favorite engagement idea. Attendees could have their portraits done in coffee! This talented barista could not only craft a cup of joe to your liking but give it a face in just a matter of minutes. Everyone was raving about these coffee creations and lining up in droves to have their likeness floating in foam.
Get Moving! Given the option to sit or stand, I’d rather stand. Sitting all day, not moving, gets old and I’m sure many others would agree. PCMA must have known this and responded by supplying treadmills in session rooms for those of us who would rather move and listen at the same time.
Be Green Music City Center, where the conference was held, has gone to great lengths to be green. The toilets use only recycled rain water, there are solar panels on the roof, and the convention center is home to a colony of bees which produce 60 lbs of honey a year.
Capture the Moment Attendees were invited to take pictures around the event, post them to twitter and tag them with a sponsor hashtag. When they did, their photo would automatically be printed for them and displayed in a special area. This turned out to be a wonderful way for everyone to engage with the event and capture the moment.
Take it Online PCMA added a virtual element to their in-person meeting which included 1,600 remote participants. They had a dedicated studio for live coverage of the event and in-person interviews with industry experts. Inteviews were also broadcast around the convention center on screens. (You can see my interview on Facial Recognition for Attendee Check-in here)
Surprise and Delight The typical conference schedule includes just a few designated times for refueling with food and drink. Usually it’s breakfast, lunch and dinner. Miss those grazing times, and your stomach might be growling. That’s where PCMA did something smart – they offered a “Green Room” lounge area with treats and beverages available throughout the day. Not only that, they scheduled live music and invited local olive oil lotion company, Clary, to share their balms with attendees. This added

Start a business built to do business today, not yesterday
A one-man enterprise and American denim brand, Williamsburg Garment Company produces denim jeans in the United States of America. The simple goal is just that: To produce high quality jeans made in the United States of America. In conversation with Fibre2Fashion, the company's denim designer Maurice Malone speaks about the USP of his products and the denim market.
What inspired you to make jeans in the United States of America?
A few things led me to move my production from China to the United States of America. Working for many years in China, I watched how they used manufacturing to help the growth of their economy. After conversations with my friend who owned the factory in which my clothing was made in China, I realised that if I sacrificed a little individual gain for the greater good, I could be a small part of helping to bring American garment manufacturing back to the country.
So, when President Barack Obama asked companies to bring manufacturing back to the United States of America, I answered the call and named our first American-made jeans Hope Street in honour of the President. It also happens to be a street in Williamsburg.
When our first American-made jeans proved very successful retailing at only a few dollars more than before, I knew the bulk of our customers would gladly pay a little more for American jeans over imported ones. So, I moved all Williamsburg Garment Company (WGC) production to the United States of America later that year.
What is the growth story of WGC?
During the slump in the economy near the end of the Bush years, I could not find investors for the brands I wanted to launch. I was laid off after having a job for a short time and could not find work. I was amazed that someone with my talent, capable of doing any job at a clothing company, could not get hired.
I freelanced to save money to start my own venture. When I started WGC, I wanted to inspire other designers and entrepreneurs and prove that one person using the technology of the day can build and operate a major internationally known brand.
I started the brand going the traditional wholesale, tradeshow route but had my eye on the future, which I believed was direct to consumer via e-commerce. I got the jump by building a powerfully optimised low-cost website that out-performed big expensive websites that focused on looks instead of being found through search optimisation. As my direct-to-consumer business grew, I found no time to chase less profitable wholesale to retailers. Today, although I still sell to retail stores, I do it only if buyers contact me. I no longer call on stores or do tradeshows. I just do not have the time.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of running a one-man show?
The disadvantage is with time. I found myself constantly optimising everything I do, yet there is still only so much time in a day. After nearing the ceiling or topping out, I got help.
The advantage is, you are in direct, unfiltered contact with consumers, which helps you understand the relationship between your buyers and products. This helped me build a strong base for the company. That is important for growth. Knowing who you are, what you do and who you are marketing to give you a strong foundation to stand on.
As the designer of a one-man company, people often ask me how I spend most of my time. My answer is, most of my time is spent working on my website, optimising, updating and writing content because the site is the engine that drives my sales. The next large chunk of time is used answering emails, customer service, marketing/online advertising and shipping. Then comes accounting, general maintenance and finally, production and design. Optimising production and design early help me to spend less time on it today with occasional tweaks here and there.
What sets your raw denim jeans apart from those of your competitors'?
What makes us the same is what sets us apart. We use the same fabrics as most of our American-made brand competitors while having better or equal quality in sewing and construction. There are only so many ways you can sew a seam and we try to use the best techniques that garner the best results for the design or style. Then, we apply a high level of attention to details.
The biggest separator then becomes our price and branding. Many like to claim fit is the deciding factor, but when you make so many fits, it is likely someone has a fit close to yours. So, when you add all the above, we are priced well below most American-made brands that meet us in quality and fits. It is our pricing or the way we lack branding, which is the biggest thing that sets us apart. You can buy jeans made in the United States of America cheaper from Kickstarter-type brands but then you end up waiting months to get the product and quality could be an issue. This is the sweet spot. Many of our customers want moderately priced, great quality, branded American made jeans without the wait.
The last factor is branding. Most jeans are branded on the outside while we brand on the inside. We simply give a classic, clean product without a lot of extras.
