Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (27th-31st May 2019)
Audience blood pressures surely went through the roof this week as Ste’s story continued to dominate proceedings. As the week began, Ste was furious when he found out that Tony and Diane had hired Sami to represent Sinead, and he angrily confronted the solicitor in the village. Unfortunately, Ste had forgotten that Hannah was standing right next to him and that she wasn’t supposed to know that her Mother was in prison. Once back at home, Ste’s rage continued as he blamed Sami for Hannah’s upset, and the presence of Jonny only added fuel to his fire. Luckily, young Leah had her head firmly screwed on and she jumped to Sami’s defence, pointing out that Ste had approached him first. However, Ste got even more angry with his daughter’s interference and shouted at her that she didn’t know what she was talking about, leading Leah to tell him that he’d changed...
Ste’s anger continued to grow when he discovered that Leah’s drama assessment had been cancelled to make way for a special assembly held by ‘Prevent’. Ste and Stuart headed down to the school to have it out with Sally, who was left disgusted by their attitudes and promptly threw them out. Ste’s triad of abuse continued once out in the corridor, which was witnessed by a group of students that included Peri. It didn’t take long for news of Ste’s outburst to spread around the school and Leah was left devastated by the reaction of her peers. Later, Leela, Peri and Leah confronted Ste over his actions but he once again refused to acknowledge any wrong doing. The situation became so heated that Leela offered to take Leah back to hers for some respite but she refused, saying she needed to look after her Dad. Having got nowhere with Sally, Stuart and Jonny decided a change of tactics was necessary and so encouraged Ste to put up inflammatory posters directed at Muslims around the village...
The following morning, the villagers were busy tearing down the posters, and Tony and Diane were quick to comfort Misbah when she spotted them. Misbah confided in the pair about just how long the campaign of terror had been going on for. Up until this point, Tony was unaware of just how bad things had got, and he knew he had to get Ste away from Stuart and Jonny. Doing a bit of digging online, Tony came across some images on social media and discovered that Stuart and Jonny were part of a dangerous far right group. Tony shared this information with Leela and Peri and the trio vowed to rescue Ste from the group’s clutches. However, they were too late. Knowing that Tony was onto them, Jonny and Stuart sat Ste down and told him everything. Although clearly a little overwhelmed at first, Ste was pleased to have found somewhere he belonged and accepted the offer to join the group for their next meeting...
Meanwhile, there was trouble for Farrah and Grace as the week of Farrah’s move to Canada arrived. Following Grace’s accident, Farrah had completely forgotten about the move until she received a reminder on her phone. Deciding that Grace was more important, Farrah planned to cancel her flight, but Grace got the wrong end of the stick and, believing Farrah still to be leaving, dumped her. Devastated, Farrah decided to take her dream job, but not before tipping the police off about Liam’s role in Grace’s accident. Luckily for Liam, DS Yates, the latest in a long line of dodgy coppers was sent to investigate, and he offered to make the charges go away if Liam paid up...
Liam may have got himself out of the shit, but Harry was well and truly in it when Romeo and Juliet saw him chatting with Kyle and assumed the pair were having an affair. Romeo went straight to tell James and admitted that Harry had not been with him on the night of Grace’s accident. Unfortunately, this was overheard by DS Yates, who quickly brought Harry in for questioning. Realising he was in deep trouble, Harry confessed that he had been with his ex, Sadie, at the time of the accident. And it seems like she is hiding a big secret of her own...
In other news this week, Mercedes tried to prove to Breda what a great Mother she is by offering to bake 100 cupcakes for Bobby’s PTA whilst Cleo quickly got fed up of the blossoming friendship between Mitchell and Joel. Finally, Liam told Mercedes that he had the perfect way of getting her off the hook for hitting Grace; pin it on Harry...
5 Things We Learned This Week:
1. Has someone dropped a nuke on Hollyoaks Village? Nope, it’s just the Hutch’s new delivery driver outfits. Well it’s an easy mistake to make. A nuclear disaster is about the only catastrophe Hollyoaks are yet to cover!
2. The pressures of education start earlier and earlier. This week saw a delighted Bobby inform Mercedes that he’d achieved an ‘A’ for his essay. Essay? The kid’s seven! I’m not sure I even knew what an essay was at that age. What on earth is he writing about at that age, anyway?
3. Two’s company, three’s a crowd. Poor Cleo. Imagine inviting your ex out with you and your new partner, just to be nice, only to quickly find yourself surplus to requirements when the new bromance of the century is created.
4. Someone actually remembered that Nana and Grace were quite good friends 5 years ago! It was nice to see Nana visit Grace in hospital this week, although Grace probably wasn’t quite so chuffed to see the disgusting cakes she’d brought with her...
5. Always check for the eavesdropping copper before confessing to perverting the course of justice. Looking at you, Romeo...
