By • Olalekan Fagbade Gabon: Expect more coups in Africa – Former Nigerian Minoster warns Civilian governments       In the light of the latest military coup in Garbon, former Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has warned that there will be more military take-over in the French-speaking West and Central African countries if civilian governments in the region continues to deliver poor performance. It will be recalled that a coup was staged few hours ago in Gabon to topple the democratic government of President Ali Bongo, who has been in power since 2009. Bongo was announced as the winner of the presidential election in the West African country on Saturday, having fulfilled a two-thirds victory at the polls. The Gabonese military officers who were dissatisfied with Bongo’s family’s 53-year rule in power overthrew him on Wednesday. Twelve soldiers appeared on national television to announce an end to Bongo’s rule in Gabon Reacting to the incident which was the latest in the military takeovers spreading in the Sahel region, Fani-Kayode said this will in Africa, until the stakeholders heed the warning he gave on his previous essay titled: ‘Does Killing Nigerien Babies Bring Glory To Our Name?’ In the article, the ex-minister condemned the cut of power supplies to Niger by the federal government which is adversely affecting the hospitals, and leading to the deaths of babies as pregnant women give birth. He also criticised the influence of France on Francophone African nations, which has been leading to coups. Fani-Kayode made these known via his X page on Wednesday morning, stressing that he was not surprised about the coup. He wrote, “BREAKING NEWS: Sadly another coup has taken place in Africa. “This time it is in the nation of Gabon where President Ali Bongo (pictured below), who together with his late father Alhaj Bongo, had been in power for the last 53 years has been toppled and removed from office. “It appears that the warning I gave in my last essay, titled ‘Does Killing Nigerien Babies Bring Glory To Our Name?’, was prophetic. “I am not surprised that this has happened and frankly we should expect more coups in the Francophone countries of West and Central Africa for the reasons I stated in that essay. “I wonder whether ECOWAS or the African Union will threaten to invade Gabon as well?”

Tumblr media
Ahead of the inauguration of the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Femi Fani-Kayode has released a list of 20 facts about the 2023 presidential election. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Tinubu the winner of the presidential election after he polled the highest number of votes. He defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Peter Obi of Labour, LP, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, to emerge the president-elect. Despite the losers of the election challenging his victory in court, Tinubu is scheduled to be sworn into office as President, May 29. However, Fani-Kayode in his Twitter account released details he claimed are facts of the presidential election. He said in the tweet ” Permit me to share the following historical facts that will be established after the swearing-in of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29th 2023. - President Muhammadu Buhari will be the longest-serving civilian and democratically-elected Northerner that has EVER sat on the throne in Nigeria. - President Muhammadu Buhari will be the only CORE Northerner (meaning someone from the NW or NE), military or civilian, that did not pass on or was not removed in a military coup whilst on the throne. - President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be the first Southern Muslim to be sworn in as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. - Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima will be the first Kanuri to be sworn in as the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. - This will be the first time in the history of Nigeria that a Muslim President and a Muslim Vice President have been sworn in as a democratically-elected President and Vice President respectively. - This is the first time that an Igbo presidential candidate (Peter Obi) has won a presidential election in Lagos, Plateau, Nassarawa and the FCT and that the SE states have given 94% of their votes to an Igbo. - This is the first time in the history of our country that a Fulani presidential candidate (Atiku Abubakar) has scored the lowest number of votes in the NC and could not win one state in that entire zone. - This is the first time in the history of our country that the majority of people and leaders in the North INSISTED on a power shift to the South. - This is the first time in the history of our politics that the Church played such an active and pivotal role in a presidential election by openly endorsing and supporting one candidate (Peter Obi) and despite that candidate lost. - This is the first time that a Presidential candidate and later President-elect (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) has been so conspired against, opposed, denigrated, vilified, humiliated, misrepresented and insulted by members of the opposition and even a few elements within his own party and yet he managed to win the primaries, win the election, overcome against all odds, come out victorious and be sworn in as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. - This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that there has been such a strong and formidable collaboration and unassailable political alliance between the leaders and people of the North and the SW. - This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a Vice Presidential candidate (Dati Baba Ahmed) has threatened the President, the Chief Justice of the Federation and the Chairman of INEC with unspecified consequences, claiming that “no-one would safe”, calling for military intervention and making treasonable statements on national television in the event of a President-elect being sworn in. - This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a Vice Presidential candidate (Dati Baba Ahmed) burst into tears and openly wept on national television because of the attacks he received from his opponents and what was written about him in an essay. - This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a presidential candidate (Peter Obi) has described a presidential election as a “religious war” and asked a Bishop to use his Church and influence members of the Christian Community to deliver a state for him. - This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a man held up a plane and stopped it from taking off for over one hour and eventually had to be dragged off in an attempt to protest and stop a President-elect from being sworn in. - This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a winning presidential ticket had no Fulani and no Christian in it and yet won. - This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a PDP presidential candidate (Atiku Abubakar) lost in Rivers State and could not make 25% of the valid votes. - This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a First Lady (Remi Tinubu) has been a Pastor, a First Lady of a state for 8 years, a Senator for 8 years and now First Lady of the nation. - It is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a Muslim President and a Muslim President-elect enjoyed and celebrated Sallah at the same time. - It is the first time that a democratically elected Muslim President will hand over power to a democratically elected Muslim President-elect. Femi Fani-Kayode calls out British envoy Ben Llewellyn-Jones over visa ban threat Fani-Kayode, the Director, New Media sub-committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, slammed the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ben Llewellyn-Jones, on social media, over visa ban threat he made. During an interview with Nigeria Info FM on Sunday, March 26, Llewellyn-Jones condemned some Nigerian politicians for making “derogatory” remarks. He said: “Yes, let’s be specific, there were some people, like Femi Fani-Kayode, what is he saying and why is he saying it? I don’t understand. “It is wrong from my perspective that he will speak on behalf of a party and that party does not distance itself from him and say stop doing that. It is wrong to say that,” Llewellyn-Jones said. Llewellyn-Jones also reiterated the fact that the UK government will issue visa bans to people undermining democracy. Llewellyn-Jones said there are about 10 persons already on the watchlist. “We have a list, we are working through our list but we don’t publish those names. I know people say we should, but we have laws, and the law prevents us from doing that. “At the moment the list is between 5 and 10 and it is growing,” he added. Femi Fani-Kayode took to Instagram and Twitter to react. He slammed the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, asking him to “keep his dirty nose out of our internal affairs.” Swipe to read FFK's post #ffk #femifanikayode #benllewelynjones #mycelebrityandi https://www.instagram.com/p/CqSreTGITs0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

UK to sanction 10 Nigerians, envoy chides Fani-Kayode
Tumblr media
The United Kingdom has said the mission is working on the list of those it will slam with visa ban. It also said the mission had between five and 10 names on its list already, adding that more would still be added. The Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ben Llewellyn-Jones, spoke on a current affairs programme on Nigerian Info on Sunday. He said the names of defaulters would not be published as expected in some quarters. The British High Commission had last week said the UK Minister of State for Development and Africa, Andrew Mitchell MP, was prepared to take action against those who engaged in or incited electoral violence during the just-concluded general elections. The high commission said the UK was already collating names of perpetrators and would impose sanctions “including preventing people from obtaining UK visas or imposing sanctions under our human rights sanctions regime.” Speaking on Sunday, Llewellyn-Jones said, “We’re working through a list and we don’t publish those names. I know people say we should but you know we have laws that protect. But we do have a list. We said that we would do this and we will do this. And, you know, we’re gathering the kind of information that would enable us to do this around specific individuals. “You know, we watched very closely. I was in Lagos the whole time. We had people on the ground in key places. We won’t publish the names. We don’t do that. We can’t do that. We have between five and 10 names on its list already, it is a growing list. “ Responding to a question on if there were triggers for violence leading up from the campaign to the election, Llewellyn-Jones decried the controversial statement attributed to a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Femi Fani-Kayode. He also lamented that the ruling APC had yet to distance itself from some comments made by Fani-Kayode. He said, “There were some people in the news, like Fani-Kayode. What is he saying? Why is he saying it? I don’t understand. I mean, I do understand but it’s wrong. And it’s wrong from my perspective that he would speak on behalf of a party and that party doesn’t just distance themselves but says stop doing that.” Llewellyn-Jones also condemned the divisive politics that played out during the election in Lagos, adding,”And if Lagos can’t be that kind of cosmopolitan melting pot of culture and language and all the things that should be, really how’s Lagos going to succeed?” Reacting on his Twitter handle at @realFFK, Fani-Kayode urged the British envoy to steer clear Nigeria’s issue. He said, “I would advise this Ben, who I am told is the Deputy High Commissioner of the UK to Nigeria, to keep his dirty nose out of our internal affairs. “Nigeria stopped being a British colony 63 years ago and we need no lessons from him on how to run our affairs or conduct our politics.” He also accused the envoy of supporting an undisclosed candidate in the just concluded presidential election. “I know that his preferred candidate did not win the presidential election but that does not mean he should cross the line and take liberties with us here. I wonder who the hell he thinks he is? “I am not one of those Nigerians that bow, shake, shiver and tremble before the British or indeed any other foreigner.” Read the full article

DSS invites Fani-Kayode over coup claim The Department of State Services (DSS), has invited Femi Fani-Kayode, former aviation minister and one of the spokespersons for the All Progressives Congress (APC), presidential campaign council, over allegations of a coup plot ahead of the February election. Fani-Kayode confirmed the invitation by the DSS in a statement on Monday, stating that he would be honouring the invitation this morning, Monday. Fani-Kayode had in a Tweet claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate and top military generals had a secret meeting last week. He alleged that the meeting may be part of an agenda to provoke a coup d’etat and establish a new and unconstitutional order in the country. But in response, the Defence Headquarters denied planning to scuttle the general elections, reiterating the loyalty of the armed forces to the constitution and civilian authority. #ffk #dss #femifanikayode #coup #mycelebrityandi https://www.instagram.com/p/ComUGHULNAg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
