Festering Desire Chapter 9 (Genshin Reader Insert)
< Previous ] Start [ Next >
We both stared for the longest time at the unknown creature, wondering whenever or not if they could be considered food given the circumstances. Despite Aster nibbling their cape, Aether and I were pretty sure we couldn't eat them. "Can you help me instead of staring?!" The weird floating fairy yelled in a panic, snapping both of us from our confused states. "Uhm- yeah! Sure- Aster! C'mere buddy!" I tried calling my companion, catching their attention successfully, distracting them long enough to loosen their jaw grip over the piece of clothing.
"Phew, thanks for helping Paimon out! Otherwise, Paimon would've drowned or been eaten afterwards!" The fairy, now known as Paimon, exclaimed happily. "No worries. My name is Aether and this is (Y/n), a good friend of mine, and their partner Aster" he answered, Aster yipping in greeting as well, like they were trying to nom Paimon a few seconds ago. "Nice to meet you! Say, Paimon's curious." the little fairy, I think she's a fairy at least, said, glancing at both of us " You two look peculiar. Paimon's not sure where you are from"
A moment of awkward silence was all it took before I sighed, taking the initiative "I'm actually from the city of freedom, Mondstadt, but due to some circumstances, I couldn't go back" I explained, short, but to the point "Aether on the other hand, his story is a lot more interesting than mine. So how about we prepare lunch first and listen to his story in the meantime?" Thankfully, the suggestion was agreed upon, Aether retelling his tale to Paimon as I cooked some Chicken-Mushroom Skewers for us, making sure that the meat was juicy and tender while the mushroom was well cooked to avoid the bitter taste, bringing both flavors out to complement each other in a simple, but easy to make dish with the ingredients we have.
"Ooooh, Paimon likes the smell of this food!~ Can Paimon have one? Pleeeease?~" our new flying companion asked, with puppy eyes that could rival Aster's. I couldn't help but chuckle "How can I say no when you ask so politely? Here you go. Careful, it's hot" I said, giving one skewer to her, watching Paimon blow quickly on it to cool the food down enough to take a bite, eyes sparkling with joy, making one of the most enthusiastic expressions I've seen in my life "It's soooo good!~ Props to the chef!~ " she exclaimed, lighting the mood from her cute reactions.
After we finished our meal, Aether noticed Paimon contemplating something. "What's wrong Paimon?" he asked, making her snap out of it, a bit surprised "Oh! Sorry. Paimon's just thinking about how to help you find your sister! After all, Paimon's the best travel guide you can have in Teyvat!" she exclaimed, striking a confident pose with her hands resting on her hips. "If I'm not mistaken, you two- " an angry yip interrupted her "Sorry, you THREE, should be pretty close to a Statue of the Seven. It's only a few days from here, and Paimon's decided to travel with you!~" Aether seemed ecstatic, smiling wide "Thank you Paimon, the more, the merrier, right?" he turned to look at me, his excitement contagious "I don't see why not"
And so, three became four, as the group began to travel towards the nearest Statue of the Seven, located in the familiar wind blessed lands of Mondstadt.
(Guess who finally decided to pick up this story again? I finally got out of my Genshin burnout, which means, more chapters to come! And maybe a few small stories in between!)

Imagine: you are Idril and you hate your cousin viscerally and this hate is later justified in every way possible. He is a monster and a traitor and as unlike your belovéd aunt as possible. And he dies, and he does not come to the Halls of Mandos and does not reembody. Perhaps you are horrible for thinking this: but you are glad. You are glad he is gone and unable to return. He was a nightmare who crawled into your stainless city and tore it down when it was least expected. He made your father love him, and then he betrayed him, and you will never forgive nor forget it. Now there is no way he can hurt you, your husband, your son, your people– and there is no one he can betray.
and then your aunt reembodies.
Your aunt reembodies and yes, she died for that monster, but she was blameless for she was forced to marry evil and birth evil and love evil. But now she's reborn without those cobwebs of enchantment and you are prepared for her grief and rage over having been controlled. She will not be the same. But she will be back, at long last.
Except. she comes back and none of these things happen.
She doesn't care that her son is evil and treacherous, more his father's son than hers. She doesn't care. She grieves for your city and in the next breath she wishes for her son's return. So you love your aunt and your aunt loves the creature of your nightmares– the betrayer that nearly killed your son and brought your home to ruin. So you love your aunt but she does not listen when you tell her to let her son go because she never saw–
and so your aunt leaves. and it feels like betrayal. like your cousin ruining your family further from beyond the grave.
she still visits, but no one in the family knows where she lives. She is strange– both the steely eyed aunt you remember and yet sometimes she looks like she has never seen you before. you try to break the enchantment that she must be under to keep looking for your Marred cousin, but there is nothing for you to find. all your trying does is send her into a rage the likes you have only seen once before: when she dragged your father away from following your mother in death for your sake.
you love your aunt, and most days, you are sure your aunt loves you.
but you cannot understand her, and in this you have lost her as surely as when she died.

oh also i've been working on a livio cosplay for fun lately and i'm trying to get it done before halloween. none of the process has been fun to look at so far but uhh.
have some delicious soup
i've had to do so much to this jacket and i'm only like halfway through it. i had to dye it black, (attempt to) remove a design, paint over the ghost of that design, and replace the buttons- and now i need to add belt loops, and a strap Situation for the doublefang guns to attach too that involves 12 sets of snaps and six metal studs. it will be cool though i promise.

Can you talk more about corrupted Lumine and Xiao? That art was so bewitching omg, tell meee!!!
(≧▽≦)
Hi, Thank you!
So in this au, Lumine's purification is through absorbing and transferring it to herself and she mostly does it passively/subconsciously (based on how they were surprised to find dvalin's tear purified).
So lumine has been (passively) absorbing corruption from so many occasions especially while in inazuma, the chasm, sumeru, and that place with upside down venti.
For Xiao, he feels calmer/free-er in her presence, because she's passively absorbing his karma. But because he's lived so long and accumulated so much, there's still a lot.
So he still does get attacks from his karma (like that one video mhy posted on yt) and I imagine lumine catching him in some and then actively purifying him (which means she gets to take on more corruption than she does passively)
I also think because lumine is getting more frustrated and angrier during her journey, it gets easier for the corruption to affect her (this girl is a pro at bottling up emotions pls make her stop).
Anyway, I think she does get corrupted away from Xiao's presence, she either flees knowing its affecting her or she thinks she's fine and proceeds on her journey until she gets consumed by the karma and other corruptions where she becomes a threat to Teyvat and so he finds her.
