Nirvana Members Reunited for Fire Aid
Among the many great live performances (i.e. Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Crowes, Green Day to name a few) at the Fire Aid benefit concerts last night, the big news was the surprise Nirvana reunion.
This is not the first time bassist Krist Novoselic, drummer Dave Grohl and rhythm guitarist Pat Smear reunited since singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain's passing in 1994. In 2012, the 3 performed with Sir Paul McCartney for the original song “Cut Me Some Slack” from Grohl’s documentary Sound City. In 2016, the three performed with Beck at a Grammy pre-party to cover David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World”, which Nirvana covered on their MTV Unplugged. In 2018, when Novoselic’s band Giants in the Trees opened Foo Fighters in Seattle, they covered “Molly’s Lips”, a Vascelines song that Nirvana famously covered. Also in 2018, they performed 6 songs at the 2018 Cal Jam festival with Joan Jett and Deer Trick's John J. McCauley on vocal duties. In 2020 they performed at the Art of Elysium fundraiser with Dave's daughter Violet Grohl doing vocals along with on "Heart Shaped Box" and St. Vincent and Beck doing the other songs.
But prior to Cal Jam, the only Nirvana reunion in which they covered original Nirvana songs was at the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, when they were inducted. At that ceremony, they performed with guest singers Lorde, St. Vincent, Kim Gordon and Joan Jett. Having a rotation of female singers seemed like the only possible way to honor Cobain. Later that night, they performed at a Brooklyn club with St. Vincent, Gordon, Jett as well as J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and John McCauley of Deer Tick. (Rumor has it, they filmed that show and if so I hope it gets released some day).
Which brings us to the Fire Aid performance. The band did "Breed" with St. Vincent, "School" with Kim Gordon, "Territorial Pissings" with Joan Jett, and "All Apologies" with Violet Grohl, which featured Novoselic on accordion and Gordon on bass. It was kind of touching in a way to see band members coming together to play the music of the late Cobain with Grohl drumming and his daughter singing.
The video above is the 15 minute video of their set.

backstage — drummer!sevika x f!reader [2.4k words]
18+, undefined relationship, sevika's quite literally smitten, cunnilingus + fingering (giving), lots and lots of kisses. apologies this is like so messy this is just me horny rambling because i miss sevika >:(
the lights dimmed down and the cheers continued to roar in the venue as sevika’s calloused hands let go of the drumsticks, rolling her arms in an attempt to relieve the ache from the relentless drumming she had just done. another successful night, another loved gig. fans seemed to really love the fire she and her band brought to this venue, the sheer intensity of their music and all. usually, sevika thrived in it. but right now, her mind was rather distracted.
you were here tonight after all.
she’d been eyeing you throughout most of the concert whenever she could, catching glimpses of your eyes filled with excitement, head bopping to the beat, sometimes even still and silent. enamoured by her? or was it the violence of her drumming that captivated you? she didn’t mind either.
this was the first time sevika had formally asked you to attend her band’s gig, awkwardness aside. it wasn’t that you two were on-and-off — heck — she wouldn’t even dare to call you a friend with benefit. though you both weren’t exactly dating either. she supposed that your relationship with her could be defined by an unsaid option, something you both hadn’t acknowledged yet. but it was clear that you weren’t just a friend, and it made things all the more complicated for sevika.
people’s cheers became blurred and muffled as sevika stepped backstage, taking a deep breath.
inhale. exhale. she knew you were about to enter backstage anytime now and she needed to calm down, attempting to suppress the way her heart rates skyrocketed at the mere thought of you.
“good job today.” mel patted sevika on the shoulder, ever the kind-hearted. bassist, leader — mel really was the glue that held this band together and sevika was grateful, even if that woman was stubborn as hell, somehow surviving every attempt of sevika pushing people away. just like you had. perhaps she’d gotten weak, or maybe you were just too insufferable — in the most endearing way possible.
her prosthetic arm squeaked as she rolled it, before rolling her flesh arm, relieving the tension. one hand was metal, the other calloused — fingertips adorned with rough skin and some cuts that were only ever the gift of relentless drumming. she’d never really bothered with them but lately, you’d been bringing band-aids with you. she could swear that you always got the cartoon ones on purpose, not that she ever complained.
sevika was snapped out of her thoughts when she felt a hand poking her shoulder, her muscles stiffening up for a split second before the familiar scent of your perfume and something so naturally you invaded her nostrils, and she instantly relaxed. “sneakin’ up on me now?” she grumbled out, pretending to be annoyed.
“you were staring at the wall, focused. figured that i’d just grab your attention like that then.” the innocent mischief that laced your words made her lips quirk up, slightly.
“sure you did.” she didn’t know how you did this, making her forget the exhaustion lingering in her muscles. “did you like the gig?” she asked casually, as if she wasn’t practically dying to know your opinion.
“yes!” you nodded, cheeks warming up when you felt her hand settle on your lower back, a gentle and barely there grasp, leading you towards the fitting room. no one was there at the moment, other band members either conversing around or just lazily lounging somewhere else. it was oddly perfect — the room in itself dimly lit and small, yet not obnoxiously cramped. the small couch at the corner seemed to be called out to you, to her.
“well, i’m glad.” sevika’s hand let go but you could still feel the phantom touch lingering, wanting to seep into your skin like warmth. “you can sit, y’know.” fuck, sevika knew she was being awkward. she wasn’t usually like this, unsure of what to say. blunt sarcasm was something she usually opted for but right now? her brain was pathetically blank. weak. this was entirely your fault and she was somewhat glad for that.
sitting beside you on the brown leather couch and feeling it sink under the combined weight, a deep huff left sevika’s throat when she felt your arms settling around her neck, trying to pull her closer. “hi.” you whispered quietly, a genuine smile adorning your lips. it was never ‘just sex’ with you both, not when you looked at her with those eyes, not when she cared for you in such a manner that was foreign to her.
“hey.” the attempt to mask the way her breath hitched ultimately failed, her flesh arm snaking out to pull you in by the waist, letting you nuzzle into her side. “not the most clean right now.” she grumbled under her breath. it was true, she’d been sweating during and after the concert after exerting all the energy into the drumming. though you didn’t seem to mind at all, wordlessly making an annoyed little noise and burying your nose into her neck.
“did my girl miss me that much?” those words, that name, just slipped through her mouth so naturally. her girl, that’s exactly how she’s been perceiving you for weeks.
“yes.” you hummed against her neck, lips pressing small and fleeting kisses on her skin, feeling her muscles tense up from the sudden affection as your lips moved to her throat, the kisses not ceasing at all. her skin tasted like salt and something so her that you couldn’t exactly pinpoint it. something just so unique. you wouldn’t want to label it anyways.
“fuck, you can’t just do that.” she sounded pissed off yet no irritation laced her tone at all, instead something closer to reluctant fondness, tilting her head back slightly to give you more access, letting you take your time as your mouth travelled up to her jaw, the soft wet noises of the kisses lingering in the air until her mechanical hand shot up to the back of your head, fingers tangling in your hair as she gently guided your face up. “c’mere.” she whispered hoarsely, pressing her mouth against yours.
her kisses, even when lazy, always felt as if her mouth was trying to consume you whole, and you’d let her, hands settling on her shoulders as you kissed her back, a soft whimper leaving you when you felt her tongue caressing your bottom lip before pushing past them, intertwining with your tongue. it was slow, fervent, the room suddenly feeling humid. her hands settled on each side of your waist as she encouraged you to straddle her lap, the couch making a noise at that, clearly referring to its old age. yet you couldn’t bring yourself to care, not when her hands caressed your sides up and down, and her mouth devoured yours.
you both gasped for air when sevika broke the kiss, a string of saliva shamelessly connecting her mouth with yours, your eyes slightly widening at the sight of it, though none of you reached up to break it. “you really were so good up there…” you panted softly, pressing your forehead against hers. “i couldn’t… focus on anyone else. not when you were there.” you admitted in such an innocuous manner that it made her heart ache.
“sweet girl.” sevika’s voice cracked a bit in awe, her eyes staring at the look on your face, how you just looked so content at this very moment. she didn’t believe that she could evoke such feelings in you, in anyone for that matter. she could feel your hips gently rocking against her thigh, her muscles flexing at the discoordinated and rather clumsy movements of your hips, your body working on its own.
her hands slipped inside your shirt, mapping up your skin until you could feel her hands palming your breasts, shuddering at both the cold feeling of her mechanical hand and the warmth of the other, the contrast pleasant. your breath hitches, trying to press yourself harder against her thigh as you lean in closer, placing a tender kiss on the corner of her mouth, right where a small scar resided — one you knew she’d gotten from getting involved in some ‘fighting shit’ she wanted to keep you out of. but you knew, you always knew.
“really beggin’ for it now, aren’t ya?” a chuckle escaped her, the exact kind that made your heart stutter.
“not my fault.” you huffed, brows drawing together.
“yeah? is this not why you came backstage in the first place? so i could take you right here?” she gestured around the fitting room, and you felt blood rushing to your face because damn it, she was right. well, half right. you genuinely wanted to acknowledge how good she did in today’s performance while also swooning over how good she looked.
you replied with yet another needy kiss, her lips were addicting after all, enveloping yours once again as she kissed you back, her hands now sliding down to gently lift your hips up so she could undo your pants and slide them down effortlessly to your knees, her fingers teasing the hem of your panties while her other — mechanical — hand rested atop your thigh, caressing the skin, squeezing the flesh just a bit.
“sevika…” you whined her name out once the kiss broke off, trembling as her fingers caressed your folds through the fabric of the panties, feeling them dampen. her fingers were pressing just right against your clit, yet not moving in the way you wanted them to. precise and deliberately teasing, sevika pulled away her hand, grinning at you.
“sevika? sevika what?”
“come on!” you glared daggers at her through glossy eyes, your hips trying to chase her hands, feeling too weak at the moment.
sevika feigned annoyance, rolling her eyes as she pushed you down to lay on the couch, your bodies shifting so she was on top of you. she would’ve liked to tease you a bit more but truth be told, she was just as desperate to see you come undone and look all blissed out, all because of her. that was worth more than any compliments about her today’s performance.
“patience now.” she tutted, her mechanical thumb pressing against your bottom lip, caressing it softly while her other hand grabbed the hem of your panties and slid them down. the cool air caressed your folds, swollen with need, your clit peeking out and fuck, she almost lost it. she breathed out shakily, eyes roaming up to the way your shirt had hiked up a bit, your eyes wide and needy, teeth sinking into your bottom lip.
“you ready?” she asked, her index gently teasing your twitching entrance, your wetness coating her skin. you nodded wordlessly, causing her brows to furrow. “words.”
“yes, i’m ready…” you exhaled, hips trying to buck forward. your entire body tensed up when her index finally pushed in, your walls desperately clinging to her finger, a moan drawing out from your mouth. you bit down lightly onto the mechanical thumb that was still present on your bottom lip, eyes fluttering shut as another finger pushed in, stretching you out.
“hey. eyes on me.” she spoke, more so ordered, and you obediently followed as your eyes reluctantly looked at her, feeling her mechanical hand pull away and slip down to rub your puffy clit gently yet with pressure. her fingers continued pumping in and out of your cunt, the rough pads of her fingers rubbing against that sweet spot of yours that made the pressure in your abdomen impossibly hot, threatening to break. it was there, almost there—
“hey!” you gasped out when her fingers slipped out, suddenly leaving you feeling empty and just so frustrated, tears already pricklint at the corner of your eyes. you weren’t thinking straight, still high on the pleasure and denied. “that’s so unfair you can’t just-!” your voice cracked but sevika just stared at you, scrutinising your expression before a grin reappeared on her lips, cocky
“m’not done with you just yet, sweet girl.” sevika shifted on the couch so she could get between your parted legs, her hands holding your thighs to make sure they were open. her warm breath fanned your twitching clit, not giving you a chance to retort as she buried her face right in between your lips.
“s-sevika!” your words broke off into a moan as her tongue lapped at your slick folds, a satisfied hum leaving her throat at the taste she adored so much. her tongue pushed into your entrance for a few seconds, making sure to twist the muscle inside your tightness before she pulled out and began devouring your clit, pressure flicks of her tongue against your nub. your head was blanking out at the sheer intensity of it — not that you minded — your chest rising and falling rapidly.
your fingers tangled into her short hair, tugging at the dark strands desperately while your hips moved on their own, practically attempting to ride her face, feeling the way her mouth was hungrily beginning to suck on your clit, as if trying to make it puffier. the pleasure was coiling hot within your body. her hand slid back in between your legs, two fingers pushing into your cunt. it all felt too much in the best way possible, your walls tightening around her pumping fingers while she continued to suck on your clit.
“so close… fu-please…” you whined amidst the obscenely wet noises that were lingering in the fitting room. if you weren’t so fucked out and needy, you would have perhaps felt a bit embarrassed. sevika hummed against your cunt, not ceasing her movements until you reached your peak. the pleasure washed over you strongly, almost unbearably while her fingers kept pumping in and out of your cunt, grey eyes intently watching your face as you convulsed around her mouth, her tongue tasting your come intently.
“look at you.” her breathing was heavily as she pulled away and sat up, her chin and mouth glistening. your eyes were barely opening as you tried to calm yourself down, hips still twitching. her arms gently scooped you up, letting you fall limp against her chest, her familiar warmth enveloping you.
“wanna… wanna make you feel good too.” you slurred out, drunk on her.
“i think it’s better if we get out of here first.” she chuckled roughly, her mechanical fingers gently caressing your hair.
oh shit, you both were still in the fitting room.
