Week 45 was a BIG one because Lu flew down to Texas with me to visit family for the holidays. He did so well on the flight and in the airport, everyone complemented his good manners~ 💖
We flew Delta and used the Petskd top-expandable pet carrier with 18x11x11x dimensions for those curious. No issues.
Fortunately in the days before the flight, I had the foresight to take Lu on two very long hikes around our local area. The weather was wonderful for it (if a bit damp) and he had a great time duck watching. Little guy was exhausted by the time we arrived!
He also loved meeting my family... Everyone except my father 😅 who it was on *sight* with. My dad tried so hard to make friends too. Maybe next time.

Traveling with Pets: Airlines and Policies You Should Know
For cheap and best Travel Diaries - https://travelinternationals.com/
Traveling with pets has become increasingly common as more pet owners view their furry companions as part of the family. However, when flying with pets, it’s important to understand the airlines’ policies to ensure a smooth and stress-free journey for both you and your pet. In this essay, we will explore the essential airline policies you should be aware of before booking a flight with your pet.
Firstly, airlines generally categorize pets into two groups: those that can travel in the cabin with you and those that must be checked into the cargo hold. Pets that are small enough (usually under 15 pounds, including the carrier) are typically allowed in the cabin for an additional fee. Airlines like American Airlines, Delta, and United all allow small pets in the cabin, but each airline may have specific size and carrier requirements. It is crucial to check with your chosen airline before booking, as these policies can vary.
For larger pets or those traveling in the cargo hold, airlines often have more stringent requirements. These pets need to be transported in an IATA-approved crate, and the airline will have specific guidelines for the size, construction, and ventilation of the crate. Some airlines also require that pets be accompanied by a health certificate from a veterinarian, verifying that your pet is fit for travel. Additionally, not all destinations allow pet entry, so it's vital to research both the airline and the destination country’s regulations.
One key factor to consider is whether the airline allows pets during extreme weather conditions. During summer and winter months, some airlines limit pet transport to ensure their safety in extreme temperatures. It’s also important to be aware of the fees associated with traveling with pets, which can vary greatly depending on the airline and travel class.
Furthermore, it’s a good idea to arrive at the airport earlier than usual when traveling with a pet. Most airlines recommend arriving at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight to ensure there’s enough time for check-in procedures and any required pet documentation checks.
In conclusion, flying with pets requires careful preparation and understanding of the airline’s policies. By researching and following the specific guidelines for pet travel, you can ensure a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable flight for both you and your beloved pet.

When PCSing to Hawai’i with dogs, things can get tedious and challenging.
A. First, you want to assess the situation and count how many days you have until your report date. You will need about 60 to 90 days to plan and get your fur babies ready to fly.
B. Then, you’ll want to go to a Military vet (avoid civilian vets if possible) to get your dog up to date on rabies vaccinations, bordatella, and dhpp. Your dog needs two rabies vaccinations in their lifetime with one of them being within 11 months of flying. If you are getting your dogs first rabies vaccination you must wait 30 days until getting the second one. If your dog has both of their vaccinations already, they can get their rabies titer sent to a lab. This step is the most important and needs to be done as soon as you get orders for Hawai’i.
C. Then, you need to assess your dogs breed. If you have any type of snub-nosed dog be a mix or not, your dog will be restricted on most flights. If you don’t have a snub-nosed dog you can skip this step. Currently, Hawaiian and Alaskan are the only airlines I know of that will fly those breeds. If you are near a large airport like JFK or LAX it’ll be super easy to book flights with your dog. If you are in a smaller city, you will need to drive your pet to the bigger airport. There are other options out there like ground shippers and pet moving companies, but they are pricier. Choose the best option for you and your budget. We used a pet moving company to ship our two pets and the price was a little over $5k.
D. Once your FAVN results come back (passed) from the rabies titer, there is a 30 day waiting period for your dog. If you choose to fly your dog before the 30 day waiting period, your dog will be held at the Animal Quarantine Center until the waiting period is up. If your dogs FAVN rabies titer results come back as failed, you will need to send a new blood sample to the lab (return to the military vet to get this done). If you choose to fly your dog with a failed FAVN, your dog will be held at the Animal Quarantine Center for 120 days.
E. Once you get closer to your flight date you will want to send in your pets AQS form to the Animal Quarantine Center. This form should be sent in 10 days before your pets arrival to save about $60 in fees. The checklist and AQS form is available on the animal quarantine website and using the link below. The form should be sent with both of your pets original rabies certificates and a cashiers check/money order for $185. If you’ve followed every step correctly up to this point your dog will be released to you at the HNL airport. If not, your dog could end up in quarantine.
TIPS:
• order your petmate/sky kennel early (kennel should be a size too big for your pet)
• get air tags for your pets kennels
• do your research and figure out the best option for you

I saw this at #JFK on Friday. First time I've ever seen a dedicated area for travelling pets to go do their 'business'. Am not really sure that even works to be honest. #pet #pets #flyingwithpets #airport #travel

Airlines versus animals . . . what to do?
Airlines versus animals . . . what to do?
Airlines maintain that companion animal privileges are getting out of hand.
Commercial airlines are raising a stink about the legitimacy of ‘companion’ animals being allowed in the cabin during flights. Pets and other animals are required to fly cargo unless special dispensation for passengers with medical conditions allows them to accompany their owners in the cabin. It’s become a touchy subject…
