new phone purchase is sending me into a stress spiral because. confession time. I've never bought a new phone in my life, ever. so now I'm looking at this brave new world and the prices are... WHAT? I can't wrap my head around it. I have some money saved. I could afford something cool. But why the fuck should I want to spend that much money on a phone I only use to chat and to take photos. But also I want this purchase to last a few years, so I feel like being cheap now might bite me in the ass later?
But seriously. WHAT the fuck are those prices. do people actually pay that much money. what

I got a new phone for the first time in years, and it's an android, a phone ive never had before, so I'm marvelling at the difference between what qualifies as modern and mid-range.
The storage is through the roof (512GB) compared to my 32 GB of storage I've been surviving off for the past 6 off years now. The "mid" camera is so high quality I nearly dropped the phone when I first saw what a photo looked like. I specifically bought this phone for its battery, but in the time it's taken my phone (unused) to go from 50% to 8%, this phone lost 2%, and that was with me using it for the battery-heavy transfer stuff. ALSO, it's a lot bigger than my phone, which I initially was a bit meh about, but now that I'm actually holding it and using it, it's so much easier for my big ass hands to use than my phone, which approx. the size of a medium tube of paint, or like,, a large mouse. I can't believe I settled for so long 😭
I can finally use apps that Ive had to use exclusively on my pc (bc my decade-old laptop is not capable of running more than a single Firefox tab along with my usual art app).
The only actual bad thing about this phone is that it's recent enough to be constantly asking me to use the ai features, but luckily I don't care too much and it's opt-in.

Comparison: Motorola Edge 50 Fusion vs Realme P2 Pro
Tumblr media
Both the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion and Realme P2 Pro offer excellent value in the mid-range segment, but they cater to different user preferences. Here's a detailed comparison based on key features:
Display
Motorola Edge 50 Fusion: 6.67-inch Color pOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, offering vibrant colors and a high peak brightness of 1600 nits. It features Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Realme P2 Pro: 6.7-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, achieving a peak brightness of 2000 nits. Protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, it offers excellent contrast and vibrant colors.
Performance
Both phones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset with an Adreno 710 GPU. They provide smooth multitasking and gaming performance. With 8GB RAM and 128GB storage in both devices, their performance is highly competitive. However, the Realme P2 Pro benefits from UFS 3.1 storage, which offers faster read and write speeds compared to the UFS 2.2 in the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion.
Camera
Motorola Edge 50 Fusion: Dual rear cameras with a 50MP main sensor and 13MP ultra-wide lens. It offers 4K video recording at 30fps and a 32MP front camera for selfies.
Realme P2 Pro: Also features a 50MP main camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. The front camera is 32MP, capable of recording 4K video at 30fps.
Battery
Motorola Edge 50 Fusion: 5000mAh battery with 68W TurboPower fast charging and reverse charging support.
Realme P2 Pro: 5200mAh battery with 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging, which is faster than Motorola’s charging capabilities. It also supports reverse charging.

Both devices feature a punch-hole display and slim bezels but differ in the colors offered, with the Motorola phone available in Forest Blue, Marshmallow Blue, and Hot Pink, while the Realme comes in Parrot Green and Eagle Grey.
Software
Both phones run Android 14 with custom skins (Hello UI for Motorola and Realme UI 5 for Realme). Motorola offers a near-stock Android experience, which appeals to those who prefer a clean, bloat-free UI, whereas Realme offers additional customization options.
Water and Dust Resistance
The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion has an IP68 rating, offering superior water and dust resistance (up to 1.5m for 30 minutes), while the Realme P2 Pro has an IP65 rating, making it splash-resistant but not as durable as the Motorola device.
Conclusion
Motorola Edge 50 Fusion: Ideal for those who prioritize camera performance, a minimalist software experience, and durability (IP68 rating). It's a solid choice for photography enthusiasts and those who appreciate premium design.
Realme P2 Pro: Best for users looking for high performance at a lower price point. With its faster charging, vibrant display, and value-for-money proposition, it is a strong contender in the budget-mid range market.

NSFW headcanons: John and Gale's fantasies and kinks (HS AU)*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*non-exhaustive list 😉
1. In high school
John
A lot of his fantasies are centered around sports. Having sex in the locker room after a game when everything smells like sweat, sports equipment and grass. Getting off under the bleachers. Fucking Gale while Gale's wearing his soccer jersey, going down on Gale and tracing the tan line drawn by Gale's swim trunks with his lips.
He’s also into exhibitionism and fantasizes about doing it in all sorts of public places, like in a park or at school. He wants to be recorded too. He might even convince Gale to let him take a video of Gale's hand as he gives him a handjob.
Speaking of handjobs, he loves Gale's slender but strong hands, he loves holding them, playing with them, sucking on Gale’s fingers, having them squeeze Bucky's neck/thighs/shoulders. He imagines all sorts of wild fantasies involving those hands.
He has a fantasy of being a sex god or sex android - basically, just being impossibly good at sex - having insane stamina and knowing how to do things just right without ever even having sex. While touching himself in the shower, he often imagines Gale buying him in some sci-fi universe and him blowing Gale's mind with his extraordinary performance.
Gale
Teen Gale doesn’t even have the slightest clue that these things might be related, but he fantasizes about: having sex in complete darkness, being wrapped in latex except for key body parts, giving a blowjob while covered by a blanket, being separated from his lower half by a wall so that he can’t anticipate what's coming, having sex in space... These are all facets of the sensory deprivation kink he discovers later, when he's much older.
He dreams of having sex in the wilderness, in forests, lakes or meadows. The sense of serenity and freedom really appeals to him. When this fantasy collides with Bucky's exhibitionism and their camping trip during the summer between high school and college, they attempt a blowjob in the forest.
Gale likes biting, both being bitten and marked up and doing it himself. There’s a phase in their relationship when he and Bucky are constantly at it, leaving hickeys and bite marks everywhere until it gets too embarrassing. Gale enjoys the idea that someone wants him enough to be possessive with him.
Teen Gale is also very love-starved, so no matter how dirty or wild his fantasies become while he’s jerking off, just before he comes, his mind often jumps to the idea of making love. To casual, regular sex - actually, often outright marital sex. Having a husband and having sex with him is a peak fantasy for him.
They both have an authority kink from opposite sides of the coin, so it works out perfectly, but they keep this in their own fantasies until college. Bucky wants to be a good boy and be of service, Gale likes to be called sir, he likes to tease and feel needed. Calling each other daddy is a squick for them though.
2. Later life
Authority kink (see above). They do this kind of power play frequently just before their conflict at 30 gets bad.
Sensory deprivation for Gale: he loves everything ranging from shimmying under the blanket to give Bucky a blowjob to headphones+blindfold+being told not to move. Also likes temperature play and mild tickling.
Bucky definitely gets his soccer jersey fantasy fulfilled and probably some others too. Sports continue to arouse him and give him dirty ideas.
From his mid-twenties, Bucky starts developing a breeding kink, which gets increasingly stronger over the years. Talks about it a lot during sex, but when they start fighting about having kids together, Gale stops letting him do it.
As a combination of the sensory kink and his domesticity kink, Gale loves sex when they don’t say anything to each other because they're comfortable and know each other enough that they don’t need words.
They also start roleplaying regularly, which is a fun way to spice up their sex life and to pretend that they've had sex with other people too, not just each other.

Hey Orteil, does the new UI include the cool animations where the little fingers touch the cookie? Also do you plan on returning the effects of the cookie's background and drop down shadow (behind the cookie) to what they look on PC?
the mobile app operates under much stricter technical limits than the web version where if something makes my mid-range android struggle i have to get back in there and tone it down! i went for a performance-first approach which is why the game is coded from scratch rather than reusing the web version's codebase; this lets me catch bottlenecks as soon as they show up. there's all kinds of optimizations and compromises to make the game look pretty enough without breaking the bank on the framerate budget - this means all canvas operations are minimized; the background (along with particles and milk) is painted at half-scale, and the fingers are all just one big rotating image that repaints itself with the appropriate amount of hands only when needed. one problem with the drop shadow is that it has to match the big cookie's 3d distortions when dragged around, which means it has to be its own html element, which makes the game slightly slower to render! i'll see if it's manageable however

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For maybe half a year, I wanted an Android tablet with a pen after hating the idea for almost a decade because Android's tablet ecosystem is garbage and it lacked good art software for a while.
Currently, there's a 2024 Galaxy S6 Lite refresh that's exclusive to Amazon at around $250, and I jumped on that to try out the Android artist space again.
Since I already have a tablet PC and an ipad to do my main art projects, I didn't need a high end android tablet. Just something I can take on my regular commutes for notes and doodles which the other two devices are too bulky for.
I can tell you though, that this is pretty slow. Takes a while to load anything, charges maybe half as fast as modern phones or tablets in the $500 range, and while Clip Studio ran fine for drawing, I've had slight lag using the Concepts App. I suspect you can't make print-resolution comics with this thing, but it draws, and i do all my media consumption on other devices anyway.
Another thing to note is that the pen (which is included, yay) looks exactly the same as the S-pens that come with the normal Galaxy S models (at least my S7 from a few years ago), but it's not as weighted because there's no bluetooth hardware inside. I'm drawing with it fine, though I do switch pens sometimes.
Tumblr media
If anyone is interested, I can write a long info post one of these days about all the S-Pen alternatives I know of and tried. At first, I was gonna save up extra money to get the new XP-Pen android tablet, but I like the flexibility of Wacom-powered EMR pens where i can choose between things like comfortable grip or something that magnetically attaches to the device or something. It's also easier to get cute cases and screen protectors for samsungs since they've been around forever!
Tumblr media
There's three versions of the S6 lite. The new one has a slight spec bump and runs Android 14, so it should last a few years (both the XP Pen and Huion Androids are permanently stuck on Android 12). I believe the 2020 version is still supported, upgradeable to Android 13 and the third version is the 2022 version. All three are exactly the same in size and features- they just have different processors and android versions out of the box.
Conclusion:
I won't call this a beginner's tablet. If you're a beginner artist who hates apple and wants a standalone drawing tablet, but you also happen to have $500-700 standing around, splurge in getting a better tablet. If you don't like it for drawing, it can still be used for media consumption.
I don't regret this purchase because it does what I need it to in the most basic sense, but I would only recommend it if your needs for an android drawing tablet are the same as mine (super casual art and being able to try out android versions of drawing apps), or you are on a super tight budget. I believe the Galaxy S9 FE and the XP-Pen Magic Drawing Pad are good mid-tier models while the normal Galaxy S9/Plus/Ultra are the high tier.
This is probably the cheapest EMR Android tablet that comes with a pen and oh boy does the pen write so smooth!
I wish i can retire from using an ipad for art, but I need to learn how to use Clip Studio first since I've become overly-dependent on Procreate.
ah well!

Technically WDL x RWBY AU??
Not really, but just the three characters... Who should NOT be co-existing together, but tbh I don't fw canon bc imma do my own thing<3
(1/3, Bagley,)
Alright, we start off with Bagley! In this AU, he's an Android made in Atlas for the Military, cutting edge technology that(alongside Penny,) had somehow been given a part of Skye's aura, essentially giving him a soul. But unlike Penny, he was to be used purely for combat purposes and tactical aid.
How'd he get sent to Beacon Academy? God knows, but he was assigned to Skye, quite possibly bc he one day got bored, and blackmailed the military for the fun of it. Now he's attending school with his emotionally constipated co-creator, the optimistic dumbass he was created to look like, and an erratic dumbass(my sona<3)
Of course, Bagley knew Skye well, as she is his co-creator. But before Beacon, he and Bradley had never once interacted, as the other wanted nothing to do with Atlas Military(bit too hardcore for his taste,) and was not privy to his sister's work. In fact, the first time the two met personally was during the airship flight to their first day at the academy...
Yep, bit of a shock when he saw an android that suspiciously looked a lot like him lol--
Bagley is an android similar to Penny, but with a more sleek and professional design. Due to being sent off to Beacon, his once staggering height was shortened(although not by much,) and stands confidently at a 6'10", just a ft taller than Bradley. You can tell automatically that the android was created in the other's likeness, but other than physical appearance, they, in fact, have nothing else in common!
-
His weapon is called Axiom, a modular staff and drone system that complements his analytical combat style.
Primary Form: Collapsible Quarterstaff
A sleek, lightweight staff designed for precise strikes and fluid combat. Infused with Dust channels, allowing him to enhance attacks with elemental effects (fire, ice, lightning, etc.). This weapon can also be used defensively to parry and block attacks.
Secondary Form: Floating Drone Blades
The staff splits into multiple hovering blade-like drones. These drones can be controlled remotely, allowing Bagley to attack from multiple angles simultaneously. Each drone can be infused with different Dust effects, adding elemental versatility.
Ranged Capabilities: Dust Blasts
In staff form, Axiom can fire concentrated Dust blasts like a gun.
In drone form, the drones can shoot energy bolts, creating a long-range offensive option.
Utility & Combat Style
Multi-Tasking Fighter: Bagley can fight up close with the staff while the drones attack from a distance.
Strategic Positioning: The drones allow him to control the battlefield, setting traps or defending teammates.
Adaptability: He can switch between melee, ranged, and drone combat depending on the situation.
∆
Bagley’s Semblance is called Echo Circuit. It allows him to record and temporarily mimic the techniques of others, adapting to their fighting styles mid-battle.
How It Works:
Bagley can analyze and replicate an opponent’s physical combat techniques, movements, and weapon skills.
Once recorded, he can use the copied fighting style for a limited time, adapting it to his own strengths.
He cannot copy Semblances that rely on emotions, unique Aura interactions, or personal modifications.
Drawbacks & Limitations:
Limited Duration: He can only use copied techniques for a short period before needing to reanalyze or refresh them.
Requires Observation: He must see and study a technique before he can mimic it.
Physical Limitations: Even if he copies a strong fighter’s moves, his own physical limits still apply—he can't suddenly match their raw strength or speed.
Combat Style with Echo Circuit:
Tactical Adaptation: He adjusts his fighting style on the fly, countering opponents with their own techniques.
Unpredictability: Since he can switch styles mid-fight, enemies struggle to anticipate his next move.
Synergy with Axiom: By mimicking weapon techniques, he can maximize his modular staff-and-drone system in creative ways.

zephyr thoughts
i mentioned previously that zeph is a mid-range personal assistant-type model, and thinking about stuff there. like since they're pre-made rather than customs i'd imagine they all come from the same mold. you can customize after the fact but body and facial structure are all gonna be the same. zephyr would absolutely be hugely uncomfortable running into another android of his model out in the world. it was bad enough seeing some at the company. he's a little self conscious of his facial scar but at the same time having something to differentiate him a bit is nice.
looking up famous roboticists for model names and i'm going with the Chapetek Ivaldi NC750 as zeph's model
what was zephyr called before he named himself? i don't think he had a name. androids generally don't come with names, like maybe some higher end brands do that but generally nah. i think while androids at chapetek are undergoing quality testing and such, they're identified by serial number, shortened to the last three digits for brevity.
zeph's number ends in 209, so that's how andrew and the other employees would've addressed him at the company. actually i can see andy referring to the androids he works with as ms/mr/mx [number] specifically depending on the model. so zeph, before saying he's not a girl, would've been Ms 209.
