The current Supreme Court is a 6-3 conservative majority.
Justice Thomas, that corrupt fascist fucker, is 75.
Justice Alito, that biased fascist fucker, is 74.
Each is married to a fascist ultra right wing woman. Ginny Thomas was actively involved in Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Martha Ann Alito is the alleged source of the ultra right wing flags on the Alito homes.
If Trump is elected in 2024, Thomas and Alito will retire, just like Kennedy did in 2018. Trump will get to appoint two more justices in their 50s.
Like sexual assaulter and liar Kavanaugh. Or handmaid's tale Coney Barrett. And the conservative majority will be on lock for thirty years. Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett are in their 50s.
Add two more ultraconservative justices in their 50s and you have a five seat conservative majority for 30 years if they live natural lifetimes.
If Trump is elected in 2024, we've not only lost the Court for at least a decade (now) but another thirty years.
What other civil rights would you like to lose? Because YOU WILL. We ALL will.
The final Harry Potter book should have ended with the International Confederation of Wizards coming to Britain and setting up criminal trails for not just death eaters but ministry employees
So with the news that Rishi may be getting the axe, does anyone actually remember the last time we had the Prime Minister be the same person from one general election to the next?
It’s as if the Tories and Sunak are getting out of their way to lose the election. To which I say good.
After 14 years of their austerity politics, defunding the NHS and forcing European migrant workers back out of the UK because of xenophobia and misleading the British public, they have destroyed everything on their path and now are back on hating queer people.
Now Sunak is going after David Tennant on twitter. DT barely knows how to text on his iPhone and calls Instagram ‘MySpace’. The man has no social media and unless someone shows it to him, he won’t know what’s happening on the internet.
Sunak has also underestimated the backlash. Doctor Who fans will go to war to defend DT and Doctor Who fans aren’t the bigoted closed minded people Sunak is used to deal with. His/the tories’ dog whistles won’t work on them.
And finally, Sunak picking a bone with David Tennant is nothing but a diversion from the actual discussions that should be taking place:
- Obligatory National Service
- Cost of living
- Dismantling of the NHS
- Reduced access to education
- increased gender violence
- Unemployment
I could go on but we know how terrible of a shape the UK is right now. I moved away 4 years ago but it still hurts to see my friends having to live in this dumpster fire.
ETA: DT could have used better language when referring to KB? Yes, he most certainly should have because his message is being diluted and the discourse is being diverted to identity politics and how black women are always on the receiving end of criticism. I agree with this reading of the situation, but on the other hand Kemi Badenoch is being tokenised and weaponised by the tories in which anything you say against her is misogynoir. There’s no winning.
which entity from the magnus archives do you think is the sexiest? personally i'd say the slaughter. or the corruption.
Pre-Michaelified Spiral is pretty up my alley, but only because that one dude referred to it as the Fractal and I love when the beauty of math is incorporated into stories.
The Dark is pretty sexy, not gonna lie.
Unfortunately the Corruption is the one I'm most susceptible to in a victim way and not an avatar way, so I can't find it sexy because it just terrifies me to the marrow in my bones.
The UK is such a bleak place right now... The election is going on and the realistic options are two different flavours of awful. The Conservatives are going to be wiped out, and Labour will be elected on huge majority with a plan to do fuck all.
The manifesto release seals the deal. Highlights include:
A belief that people on benefits (including the disabled) aren't trying hard enough - so a continuation of the crackdown regime that hasn't worked and just immiserates people further
Implementation of the 'expert' recommendations of the Cass Review, so no transgender person will be able to receive help until they're 25. By a massive coincidence (I'm sure!) this will reduce NHS waitings times (another headline pledge), as they'll be a large chunk of people who cannot receive care.
Economic policies that amount to redoing PFI, because that worked so well the first time...
Consistent watering down of Green policies and pledges, with the much vaunted GB Energy plan being a holding company to funnel money to the energy industry.
Despite claiming otherwise, no recognition for a Palestinian state unless incredibly vague conditions are met.
It's bleak. Things may get a little better, just because some investement will do some good, but nothing on the scale that's required. They'll be no rebalancing, just more of the same.
the discourse around taylor [checks notes, pointedly not contemplating how i am spending my one wild and precious life] hugging a football guy’s wife who hearted a trump post on insta has a lot of people saying variations on “she can be friends with trump supporters bc none of it really effects her” which is an example of one of my personal pet peeves, which is people wildly overestimating how salient politics as a concept is to the vast majority of people in the US at least. it is simply not true that only rich white straight people believe themselves to have the luxury of having friends on the opposite side of the political aisle. this is a philosophical viewpoint espoused by people all over the place demographically and a lot of it is because they just don’t think of politics as meaningfully important. which, again, is NOT always because political events don’t affect their lived! frequently they just like truly do not connect the dots the way that eg very online politically semi-curious people
