Top 10 Factors to Consider When Choosing a Garage Door in San Diego
Tumblr media
Choosing the right garage door for your home is more important than you think. It’s about aesthetics, security, durability, functionality, and energy efficiency. Your garage door is one of the largest entry points to your home, and in a place like San Diego, where the climate is mild but still demands reliable home solutions, making the right decision for your garage door installation in San Diego is essential. Whether upgrading an old door or planning a fresh garage door replacement in San Diego, this decision can enhance both your curb appeal and the safety of your home.
In this blog, we’re committed to providing you with the top 10 factors to consider when selecting a garage door for your San Diego home. From materials to style and safety features to budget considerations, we’ll cover everything you need to know to make an informed decision. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge to choose the best garage door for your home.
1) The Garage Door Material Matters
One of the first and most crucial decisions you’ll face is choosing the right material for your garage door. The material you select will impact the door’s durability, maintenance, and energy efficiency. With the right material, your garage door can last for decades, providing security and beauty.
Popular Garage Door Materials
Steel: One of the most popular choices, steel is durable, low-maintenance, and available in various styles and finishes. Steel garage doors can also be insulated, making them an excellent choice for homes that require better energy efficiency.
Wood: Wood garage doors are known for their classic beauty and can be customized with various designs. However, they require more maintenance than steel and may not hold up as well in extreme weather conditions.
Aluminum: Lightweight and rust-resistant, aluminum is a good choice for coastal homes in San Diego, where moisture can be a concern.
Fiberglass: Fiberglass doors are another durable option, resistant to dents and cracks but may fade over time in direct sunlight.
Choosing the right material for your garage door installation in San Diego can make a huge difference in longevity, appearance, and upkeep.
2) Design and Style
Your garage door plays a big role in your home’s curb appeal, so its design should complement the style of your house. San Diego homeowners have many styles, whether you’re into sleek, modern designs or something more traditional. For instance, a contemporary home might look best with a flush panel steel door, while a carriage-style wood door could enhance a traditional home.
Consider Your Home’s Architecture
Traditional: Carriage-style doors might be the perfect fit if you have a classic or traditional home. These often feature decorative hinges, handles, and panel designs that evoke a timeless look.
Modern: For those with contemporary homes, sleek, minimalist designs in steel, glass, or aluminum are popular choices.
Custom Designs: Some homeowners opt for custom garage doors, especially when they want to match specific architectural details of their house. Custom doors allow you to choose colors, windows, and additional features that elevate your home’s overall aesthetic.
By working with an expert in garage door repair in San Diego, you can get a design that enhances your home’s exterior and fits your lifestyle and personal taste.
3) Insulation and Energy Efficiency
San Diego’s weather is relatively mild, but that doesn’t mean insulation isn’t important. A well-insulated garage door can make a big difference, especially if you use your garage as a workshop or living space or if it’s attached to your home and affects your heating and cooling.
Benefits of an Insulated Garage Door
Energy Savings: An insulated garage door helps maintain consistent temperatures inside your garage, reducing the energy required to cool or heat adjacent rooms.
Noise Reduction: Insulation can also help reduce noise from outside the garage and the door during operation.
Durability: Insulated garage doors tend to be stronger and more resistant to dents, which can prolong their lifespan.
When planning a garage door replacement in San Diego, consider upgrading to an insulated door for long-term savings and comfort.
4) Safety and Security Features
Your garage door is one of the largest entry points to your home, so safety and security should be top priorities. Choosing a door with modern security features can provide peace of mind, especially if your garage is used to store valuables.
Essential Security Features
Automatic Locks: Some garage doors now have built-in locking mechanisms that engage automatically when the door closes, adding an extra layer of security.
Smart Technology: Consider investing in a garage door that can be monitored and controlled remotely via a smartphone app. This feature allows you to check if the door is open or closed from anywhere and receive alerts if it’s opened unexpectedly.
Safety Sensors: Most modern doors have motion sensors that prevent the door from closing if an object or person is in the way. This feature is crucial for households with children or pets.
By upgrading your door with these features, you’ll enhance the security of your home and protect your family from accidents. A San Diego garage door repair professional can help ensure all safety mechanisms work correctly.
5) Maintenance and Longevity
While style and function are important, you’ll also want to consider how much maintenance your garage door will require over time. Some materials and designs are more demanding than others regarding cleaning, repairs, and upkeep.
Low-Maintenance Options
Steel: Steel doors are generally low-maintenance but can be prone to rust if not properly cared for, especially in coastal areas. Opting for a door with a powder-coated finish can help prevent rust.
Aluminum: Aluminum is rust-resistant and requires minimal maintenance, making it a great choice for busy homeowners.
Wood: While wood doors are beautiful, they require regular refinishing to protect against moisture, pests, and wear. If you prefer low-maintenance materials, wood might not be the best choice.
Before committing to a garage door installation in San Diego, ask your installer about the maintenance requirements of the materials you’re considering.
6) Budget Considerations
Garage doors come in a wide range of prices, and your budget will play a significant role in determining the material, design, and features you choose. However, it’s important to remember that a garage door is an investment in your home’s security and appearance.
Balancing Cost and Quality
While it may be tempting to opt for the cheapest option available, investing in a high-quality garage door can save you money in the long run by reducing the need for repairs or replacements. Work with a San Diego garage door repair professional to find a door that fits your budget while offering the needed features.
7) Weather Resistance
San Diego’s climate is mild, but that doesn’t mean your garage door won’t face some environmental challenges. From coastal humidity to the occasional heatwave, choosing a garage door that can withstand local weather conditions is crucial.
Weather-Resistant Materials
Aluminum and Fiberglass: These materials are moisture-resistant, making them ideal for homes near the coast.
Steel with a Powder-Coated Finish: For added durability, look for a steel garage door with a weather-resistant coating to prevent rust and corrosion.
Insulated Doors: Insulation improves energy efficiency and helps protect the door from temperature fluctuations that can cause warping or cracking.
8) Professional Installation vs. DIY
While it might be tempting to save money by installing your garage door yourself, this is one area where hiring a professional is crucial. Garage doors are heavy, and improper installation can lead to serious safety issues or damage.
Benefits of Professional Installation
Expertise: A professional garage door installation in San Diego ensures that the door is installed correctly and functions smoothly.
Safety: Installing a garage door involves handling heavy parts, high-tension springs, and electrical components. Professionals have the right tools and experience to avoid accidents.
Warranty: Many garage door manufacturers require professional installation to honor warranties, so skipping professional help could void your coverage.
9) Noise Levels
The noise level of your garage door may not seem like a major factor—until you’re woken up by the sound of it opening early in the morning. Some materials and mechanisms operate more quietly than others, so it’s important to consider this when selecting a door.
Quiet Garage Door Options
Belt-Drive Openers: Belt-drive openers are much quieter than chain-drive openers, making them ideal for homes where the garage is close to bedrooms or living areas.
Insulated Doors: Insulated garage doors tend to operate more quietly than non-insulated models, reducing the noise caused by movement and vibration.
10) Garage Door Warranty and Support
Finally, when choosing a garage door, it’s important to consider the warranty and support offered by the manufacturer and installer. A good warranty can protect your investment and provide peace of mind if anything goes wrong.
What to Look for in a Warranty
Coverage Length: Look for warranties that offer at least ten years of coverage on the door itself, with additional coverage for hardware and openers.
Service and Support: Choose a San Diego garage door repair company that offers ongoing support and maintenance services to keep your door functioning properly.
Conclusion
Choosing the right garage door for your home involves considering various factors, from material and style to safety features and energy efficiency. By evaluating these factors, you can select a garage door that enhances your home’s curb appeal, boosts security, and lasts for years.

Continuation of the Birthday Series! This is pure tooth-rotting fluff. I will not apologize. (I accidentally published this not meaning too. It's not finished, but I guess I will split this into two parts then 🥲)
The Finale to the Birthday Series Part I of II
March 29, 1991.
Billy turns 25. It’s a Friday.
Steve curls around Billy’s naked form, anxious to tell him the news. He’s been awake for what feels like hours, excitement radiating through his body. They’ve been talking about going on vacation to California for his birthday which happened to be during Spring break. They discussed it months in advance, and the closer it got to the date of their trip the more homesick Billy got. Billy was constantly pacing, staring into nothing, and huffing at minor inconveniences.
Steve could tell he was just itching to dip his toes into the wet sand of San Diego’s beaches again. At the beginning of the month, Steve told Billy they’d be renting a house instead of staying in a “shitty” hotel. Billy said he didn’t care as long as it was close to the ocean. Steve promised to deliver, and he would deliver… more than Billy knows or expects, which is why, now, Steve is about to jump out of his skin if Billy doesn’t wake up soon.
Steve decides Billy has been asleep for too long. Steve gently squeezes him - one hand on his boob, the other snaked around his belly - and Billy finally stirs from his slumber. He groans when he opens his eyes and the sunlight from the window hits his face.
“Goddamn,” Billy yawns, “s’fucking bright.”
“Good morning, birthday boy!”
Steve squeezes him so tight that Billy taps out, gasping for air.
“Wake-y, wake-y, handsome baby!”
“Ugh, shut up…”
Billy jabs Steve in the side, and Steve shouts, “Oh, you have wounded me! I’ve no choice but to defend myself!”
They roll around, wrestle, play-fight until they’re both in hysterics. Steve gets on top of Billy, holding Billy’s wrists against his pillow as he leans down for a kiss. Billy melts against Steve’s lips, warmth flooding his limbs. He sighs contently, blue eyes meeting brown. Steve smiles above him, so deeply in love with him.
“You ready?”
“Yeah,” Billy nods, “as I’ll ever be”
The flight is nerve wracking for Billy. He’s never actually been on a plane. Well, that’s a lie. He was air lifted once to a government facility when he was actively dying, but it’s not like he was conscious at the time. Steve holds his hand through most of the flight, brushing a thumb over his knuckles to soothe him.
They make it to their “rental” in California by night. It’s a three bedroom, two bath with ocean views. The master bedroom has big windows and French doors leading out to a small deck for sitting. They’re both dead tired, having just enough energy for handjobs in the shower before passing out in their big bed. In the morning, Steve finds Billy sitting outside on the deck in the sun, head tilt back and hair and skin shining under its rays. Billy is like a fish being returned to the water after struggling to breathe in a fisherman’s grasp.
Billy belongs here.
Steve is certain of that, especially when Billy takes him around town their first full day there. He shows him his former haunts, telling Steve all about the stupid shit he got into with his friends. God. Friends. Billy had friends. Billy shows him the garage he used to “work” at when he was just a kid. An old, big and burly man with the name Hank embroidered into his shirt stares at Billy for a good long minute from the open doors of the garage. He asks, “That you, Billy?” and when Billy confirms, the man nearly breaks Billy’s back in a bone crushing hug.
Hank says he could come back and work for him some time. Billy says thanks, but that he's just on vacation. Lives in Indiana now. Hank says that's too bad, but if ever decided to move back the job is there for him.
Steve thinks that's nice that Billy has a place like this. Here. Where he belongs. It eases his anxiety a bit.
The next day, Steve and Billy get tacos at a taquería on the boardwalk. Billy is a bit of a taco snob, and orders for them both thinking he's cool for knowing just enough Spanish to read off a menu. Pescado. Carnitas. Birria - Steve thinks that one is his favorite, though Billy wont tell him what's in it. He just shrugs and bites into the taco, brothy sauce dripping down his forearm. Then he moans. Loudly.
They are delicious, Steve thinks. Better than the fast food tacos he gets in the "hard shell" they have back in Hawkins, which Billy will not eat. The first time they ever had "Taco Night" with the gang, Billy got mad that Steve didn't buy the corn tortillas (they didn't have those at the store, he tried to explain) and he nearly crucified Steve for not bothering to cook the flour ones. After biting into the corn tortillas, he can see why.
Steve loves that they're Billy's comfort food. They remind him of California. Where he belongs. Home.
The day after that, they go to an aquarium.
Billy always swears he's not a nerd, but Steve is starting to doubt that with the way Billy practically narrates each exhibit like it's his job. Even a few tourists wandering around listen in when Billy talks animatedly about deep sea creatures. One woman with her young grandson asks him what he meant by "bioluminescent" and Billy responds with "the fish fucking glow." She didn't seem too happy with that, but gave a polite nod before dragging her grandson away.
Billy is most excited about the sharks and rays exhibit. Steve asks about the fish hanging off of a big shark in the massive tank, and Billy goes on a tangent about remoras. He almost works himself into a frenzy when he gets into the misunderstood nature of sharks. Shouts, even. "Don't fuck with a shark, and they wont fuck with you!"
It's a motto everyone should live by.
Steve buys Billy a shark plush at the gift shop. It's huge, taking up a significant portion of their bed back at the rental. Billy spends every night on their vacation curled up with the damn thing. Steve almost regrets buying it, but the content look on Billy's face as he hugs the shark to his body is well worth it.

Commercial Garage Door Repair in San Diego: Tips for a Smooth Operation
Tumblr media
Commercial garage doors play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of businesses in San Diego. These essential entry points facilitate the seamless movement of goods, vehicles, and personnel in and out of warehouses, loading docks, and commercial establishments. However, like any mechanical system, commercial garage doors can experience wear and tear over time, leading to malfunctions that can disrupt operations and compromise security. In this article, we will explore some valuable tips for maintaining and repairing Commercial garage doors repair San Diego, ensuring they operate at their best and minimise downtime.
Regular Inspection and Maintenance
Prevention is always better than cure, and the same holds true for commercial garage doors. Regular inspection and maintenance can significantly extend the lifespan of these vital assets. Establish a maintenance schedule and conduct routine checks for signs of wear, loose components, or any other issues that may affect the door's performance. Addressing minor problems early can prevent them from escalating into major, costly repairs down the line.
Lubrication of Moving Parts
Proper lubrication of the moving parts is crucial for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of commercial garage doors. Hinges, rollers, tracks, and springs should be lubricated regularly to reduce friction and prevent unnecessary strain on the system. Remember to use high-quality lubricants suitable for the specific components to avoid damage.
Balance and Alignment Checks
An imbalanced or misaligned garage door can cause excessive strain on the operating system and lead to premature wear. To check the balance, disconnect the door from the opener and manually lift it halfway. If the door stays in place, it is properly balanced. If not, a professional technician should adjust the springs to achieve the right balance. Additionally, ensure the door's alignment is correct to prevent jamming and ensure a smooth closing and opening process.
Safety Features Inspection
Commercial garage doors are equipped with various safety features to protect users from accidents and injuries. These features include photo-eye sensors and auto-reverse mechanisms, which automatically stop the door from closing if an obstruction is detected. Regularly test and inspect these safety features to ensure they are in perfect working condition, providing a safe environment for employees and customers.
Addressing Noises Promptly
Unusual grinding, scraping, or squeaking noises coming from the garage door can indicate underlying issues that require immediate attention. Ignoring such noises can lead to more severe damage and costly repairs. Have a professional technician inspect the door as soon as possible to identify the source of the noise and implement appropriate repairs.
Weather Stripping Maintenance
Weather stripping along the edges of the garage door is essential for maintaining a secure and energy-efficient workspace. Inspect the weather stripping regularly for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Replace worn-out weather stripping promptly to prevent drafts, water leaks, and energy loss.
Keep the Door Clean
Maintaining a clean and debris-free garage door is not only aesthetically pleasing but also essential for its proper functioning. Regularly clean the door's surface and remove any dirt, grime, or debris that may accumulate in the tracks or moving parts.
The Bottom Line
Commercial garage doors repair San Diego are indispensable assets for businesses in San Diego, facilitating the smooth flow of operations and ensuring the security of valuable goods and equipment. By following a proactive approach to maintenance and repair, businesses can minimise downtime, reduce repair costs, and extend the lifespan of their garage doors. Regular inspections, lubrication, balance checks, and prompt addressing of issues can keep the doors operating at their best. Additionally, ensuring the functionality of safety features and keeping the door clean contribute to a safe and efficient workspace. By investing in regular maintenance and timely repairs, businesses can rely on their commercial garage doors for years to come.

Top Common Garage Door Problems and How to Fix Them in San Diego
Tumblr media
A well-functioning garage door is essential for your home’s security, convenience, and aesthetic appeal. However, like any mechanical system, garage doors can run into problems over time, leaving you frustrated when your door won’t open or close as it should. Whether you’re dealing with a faulty spring, a noisy garage door, or a complete breakdown, it’s important to know the common issues that can arise and how to resolve them before they become bigger headaches. If you live in San Diego, finding professional garage door repair in San Diego when necessary can also ensure that your door operates smoothly for years to come.
In this blog, we’ll cover the top common garage door problems and provide tips on how to fix them. Whether you need simple DIY solutions or it’s time to call for professional garage door repair in San Diego, this guide will help you easily troubleshoot and fix your garage door.
Common Garage Door Problems Every Homeowner Should Know
While your garage door may seem like a simple mechanism, it’s a complex system with many parts working together. When one of these parts fails, it can disrupt the entire system. Understanding the most common garage door problems can empower you to catch issues early and save money on costly repairs or replacements.
Garage Door Won’t Open or Close Properly
One of the most frustrating issues homeowners face is when their garage door refuses to open or close. This could happen for various reasons, from a simple obstruction in the door’s path to a malfunctioning motor.
Common Causes
1) Obstructed Sensors: Most modern garage doors have safety sensors that prevent the door from closing if something is in the way. These sensors might falsely detect an obstruction if they are dirty or misaligned.
2) Broken Springs: Garage door springs bear the door’s weight and help it open and close smoothly. When a spring breaks, the door may refuse to budge.
3) Worn Cables: The cables that help lift and lower the garage door can become frayed or snap over time. This will prevent the door from functioning properly.
How to Fix It
If your garage door won’t open or close, start by checking the safety sensors. Wipe them clean with a soft cloth and ensure they’re aligned properly. If the problem persists, or if you notice broken springs or frayed cables, it’s crucial to call for San Diego garage door repair. Attempting to fix springs or cables yourself can be dangerous, so it’s best to leave it to the professionals.
Noisy Garage Door
A noisy garage door isn’t just an annoyance; it can also signify something is wrong with the door’s mechanics. If you notice loud grinding, squeaking, or rattling sounds, don’t ignore them. Over time, the noise could escalate into a more serious problem, leading to costly repairs or garage door replacement in San Diego.
Common Causes
1) Loose Hardware: Bolts, screws, and hinges can come loose over time, causing vibrations and noise when the door operates.
2) Lack of Lubrication: The moving parts of your garage door, including the rollers and tracks, need proper lubrication to work smoothly. Without it, friction can create loud noises.
3) Worn-Out Rollers: If your rollers are old or worn down, they may cause grinding or squeaking as they move along the tracks.
How to Fix It
Start by tightening any loose hardware using a wrench or screwdriver. Next, apply a garage door lubricant to the rollers, hinges, and tracks. If your rollers are old or damaged, consider replacing them. While these fixes are relatively simple, contact a garage door installation specialist in San Diego to evaluate and repair any more serious issues if the noise persists.
Garage Door Opens or Closes Unevenly
An uneven garage door is unsightly and a sign of a deeper problem with the balance or alignment. This issue can cause wear on certain door parts, leading to further damage if left unresolved.
Common Causes
1) Imbalanced Springs: The torsion or extension springs supporting your garage door may wear out unevenly, causing one side to lift more.
2) Warped Tracks: The door may not move evenly along its path if the tracks are bent or warped.
3) Worn Rollers: Rollers worn or not rolling smoothly can cause the door to pull unevenly as it opens and closes.
How to Fix It
Check the balance of your garage door by disconnecting the opener and manually lifting the door halfway. If it stays in place, your door is balanced. The springs may need adjustment if it slams down or won’t stay up. This is a job for a professional, so be sure to contact a San Diego garage door repair service to fix the springs. You should also inspect the tracks for any bends or debris and clean them if necessary.
Garage Door Remote Not Working
Few things are more inconvenient than a garage door remote that suddenly stops working. This problem can arise from various causes, but the good news is that many of them are easy to fix.
Common Causes
1) Dead Batteries: This might seem obvious, but one of the most common reasons for a malfunctioning remote is dead batteries.
2) Signal Interference: Other electronic devices or objects can interfere with the signal between your remote and the garage door opener.
3) Programming Issues: If the remote has been accidentally reset or deprogrammed, it will no longer communicate with the opener.
How to Fix It
Start by replacing the batteries in your garage door remote. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, try reprogramming the remote according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If the remote isn’t working, check for possible signal interference or consult a garage door installation professional in San Diego to troubleshoot the opener.
Broken Garage Door Springs
Garage door springs play a crucial role in the smooth operation of your door. When spring breaks, your garage door becomes much heavier, making it difficult or impossible to lift. Broken springs are one of the most common reasons people seek out professional garage door repair in San Diego.
Common Causes
1) Wear and Tear: Springs are designed to last several cycles (openings and closings). Over time, they wear out and can snap.
2) Poor Maintenance: Springs will likely break prematurely without regular lubrication and maintenance.
How to Fix It
Broken springs are not a DIY fix. Attempting to repair or replace them yourself can be extremely dangerous due to the high tension they’re under. If you notice a broken spring or hear a loud bang from your garage door, call a San Diego garage door repair professional immediately to replace the springs safely.
When to Call for Garage Door Repair in San Diego
While some garage door issues can be fixed with simple DIY solutions, others require professional attention. Knowing when to call a San Diego garage door repair expert is key to ensuring your garage door remains safe and functional for years.
Signs You Need Professional Help
1) Frequent Malfunctions: If your garage door consistently struggles to open or close or is facing recurring issues, it’s time to bring in a professional to diagnose and fix the problem.
2) Loud or Unusual Noises: Persistent grinding, squeaking, or rattling noises can signal a serious problem with your garage door’s mechanics.
3) Broken Springs or Cables: As mentioned earlier, a trained technician should always handle broken springs or cables. These parts are under high tension and can cause serious injury if not repaired correctly.
The Benefits of Hiring a Professional Garage Door Repair Service
Working with an experienced garage door repair company in San Diego saves you time and ensures that the job is done right. Professionals have the knowledge, tools, and expertise to identify and fix issues quickly, preventing further damage and prolonging the life of your garage door.
A reliable repair service will also help you decide when it’s time for a complete garage door replacement in San Diego. If your garage door is outdated, damaged beyond repair, or costing you more in frequent fixes than it’s worth, replacing it with a new model can improve your home’s safety and curb appeal.
Conclusion
Maintaining a functional garage door is essential for the security and convenience of your home. By understanding common garage door problems and their solutions, you can avoid costly repairs and keep your door running smoothly. However, when the issue is beyond a quick fix, don’t hesitate to call the professionals for garage door repair in San Diego.

Emma was woken by a soft rub on her arm. Peeking an eye open she saw her mom sitting on her bed, “David?” she asked, “In bed and resting sunshine” Ruth said smiling. Emma rolled onto her back, pushing her curls out of her face. “So, what did they say?” she asked her mom. “Two broken ribs, mild concussion, and a fractured ulna, his arm” she said grimly. “I am just relieved he is ok, I thanked dad last night for keeping him safe” she said softly, and her mom stroked her hair, “I did too sunshine.”
Emma got up and dressed for the day, she didn’t work until tomorrow, so she helped her mom do some chores around the house and cleaned the bus. Deciding she was going to wash it, she threw on a bikini and started soaping it down, and turned the radio on, keeping her mind busy. The poor bus was full of sand, and she never let it get this dirty. She was in the garage finding her sponge and brushes, and everything she needed to get to work.
Dave came outside a bit later, sitting on their back steps holding a cup of coffee. She walked over to sit with him for a few minutes, “You, ok?” she asked him, and he nodded. “It was a close call was all” and she nodded back, leaning her head onto his shoulder. “I thought I lost you, lost you both” and he kissed her hair, “Can’t get rid of me that easily princess. You, mom, Mary Margaret, I have too much reason to stay” and he smiled at her.
He nodded towards her bus, “Spring cleaning?” and she nodded, “It’s disgusting, there is sand in the carpet that probably won’t ever come out, figured I would use my last day off for a while to do that, and maybe later just hang around here.” “You aren’t going to the beach? It’s a beautiful day Em” he said, and she shook her head. “Not today” she said quiet and leaned further into him, carefully holding his good hand. “Don’t let it scare you Em, could have been you, Ruby, Will, Robin even. But we don’t let the water scare us, I however will be taking a break for a while I think” and she looked up at him surprised.
“Like forever?” and he laughed, “Nah, but a few months, and by then summer will have passed and I will be busy at the academy. Got to make sure I am in tip top shape for that” and she nodded understanding. “Think you will ever be scared to go back in?” and he shook his head, “nope. I got lucky, but I love the water too much to leave her forever” and Emma smiled. “Alright, now go wash Betty, she is probably mad at you and won’t start since you let her get so dirty” and Emma laughed nodding.
Emma turned the radio on in the garage, and set to work, spraying the bus down, and soaping her sponges up. She began scrubbing, Ruby showed up a while later surprising her, and threw on one of Emma’s bikinis on, helping her. They were dancing and scrubbing, spraying each other with the hose while Dave and Ruth sat there laughing at them. Emma’s heart felt lighter than it had in days. The competition was over, and it was just summer with her friends and family now. She heard the phone ring and Dave went inside to pick it up, and he didn’t come back out for a while.
Killian woke up, taking a look at the clock, it was early, 9. He went to the kitchen for some coffee and Liam and Elsa were sitting at the table, talking over something, and greeted him good morning. “How do you feel?” Liam asked him. “Headache but not the worst I’ve ever had” he said smiling at his brother. “What’s up, you two look serious” he said to Elsa, and she shook her head. “I’m considering going along with Liam to San Diego, but I don’t want you to be left here alone” she said. He nodded, “I’ll be alright lass, school will be starting soon, and between that and work, I won’t be around much anyways. Go along with him” and she smiled, “You’re sure?” and he nodded as he sipped his coffee. Elsa seemed to relax, and she stood hugging him. “Ok, I am going to head out, I have some calls to make, I will see you guys tonight?” and Liam nodded, standing and kissing her as she walked out the door.
“You working today?” Killian asked Liam. Liam nodded, “Almost time to head out, I am going to start packing this week, but with Elsa coming along, I won’t need you to drive me now” and Killian nodded. “The trucks still yours Killy, same with the furniture” and Killian smiled. “Big changes, I can’t believe it is happening” and Liam hugged him. “I’m only a few hours away, and you can bring your lovely lady and visit me anytime you want” and Killian hugged him back nodding. “Oh, you may want to open that” and Liam pointed to the envelope on the table that Killian hadn’t seen yet. Killian’s eyes widened, “Go on” Liam encouraged him, smiling.
Killian’s hands shook slightly, it was his tuition response, “That was fast” he said quietly. “Well?” Liam asked, and Killian read through it twice to make sure he read it. Setting it down, he turned and smiled, “I got it!” and Liam barked out a laugh hugging him tightly again “I knew you could do it little brother” and Killian nodded. “Emma! I have to go tell her” and Liam smiled and nodded, “I’m off at 7, so I will track you down later” and he went to shower for work. Killian ate a bowl of cereal and threw his clothes on, it was nearing 10, she should be up, so he grabbed his skateboard, stuffing the letter in his backpack and headed towards the Nolan’s.
Killian skated over lost in thought, happiness coursing through him. It was going to work out, he knew it, he couldn’t wait to tell Emma. He turned up on to the Nolan’s driveway and saw Emma in the driveway, with Ruby. She was wearing that yellow bikini he loved so much, the string ties shaking against her skin as she danced along to the radio washing her bus, and Ruby sprayed her with the hose. She tipped her head back laughing, her suit soaked, and Killian just smiled like an idiot. He was so bloody lucky. He came to the back porch and set his board and bag down seeing Dave sitting there reading the paper and he sat and joined him.
Emma looked up, “hey babe” she smiled and walked to him, water and soap bubbles dripping down her. He swallowed thickly and Dave elbowed him. “Right here man” and Killian laughed. Emma sat on his lap bridal style and kissed him, dripping water all over him but he could care less. “Morning, did you sleep ok?” she asked as she brushed his hair off his forehead, and he nodded his eyes locked on hers. Ruby strolled over, hose in hand “Ruby!” Dave shouted in warning. “Don’t worry, I don’t spray invalids” she said with a wicked smile and Dave got up running into the house. “Ruby! Wait!” Killian shouted, and she paused, “Why jones, afraid to get a little wet?” and he laughed. “No, no, let me get my news out first, ok?” and she dropped the hose coming to join them on the steps. Emma looked at him, “What news?” and he reached back shifting her on his lap and grabbed his backpack and handed Emma the letter.
Emma read it making sure she was understanding, and Ruby was confused. “Ahhh!” she screamed and hugged him, Ruby plucking the paper from her hand. “Nice job Jones” she said and patted his back and headed back towards the car. “I’m so proud of you babe” Emma said smiling brightly and he nodded. “It’s going to be ok Swan” he said, and she kissed him, and they felt a cold jolt of water hit them, and Ruby cackled. “Congrats Mr. College, now that you’re wet, help us clean the bus” and he smiled, shedding his shirt and began helping them out with scrubbing the car, and spent quite a bit of time vacuuming the sand out of the carpet of the floor. He bent and whispered in Emma’s ear, “probably is a good thing too that you won’t be getting sand on you if we happen to utilize the floor again” and Emma laughed and sprayed him with the hose. He chased her and Ruby around the yard spraying them back as Dave and Ruth perched on the stoop watching them and laughing until her shift started at the hospital.
The girls were wiping the car down as their entire cavalry of friends arrived to see Dave. Jeff carried a bottle of something in his hand, and winked at Emma, handing it to Dave with a bow on it. Dave laughed, and Jeff shrugged, “in case you get bored and would like to see something else while you recuperate” and Dave smiled at him shaking his head. They all sat on the grass as M showed up with Gina joining them in their circle. Ruth made a massive batch of egg salad and called them all to come get sandwiches. Sitting in a circle, they all chatted, like normal. Killian shared his news, everyone was thrilled, Graham announced his own entrance into the Nature Conservation program, and no one was surprised but they all were happy. The sun started to break, and the sky turned a hazy orange. Everyone packed up, and cleaned up, so Emma headed up to her room to shower and change.
Killian knew time was going to be scarce once school started and with Liam being gone, but he wanted some time alone with her. He had considered asking to tag along on her Fun Fund weekend that the girls did every summer, but with Dave being out of commission, M probably wouldn’t want to go away from him, and he thought maybe a night out to celebrate school, Emma’s win, and her upcoming birthday a tad early might be just the right idea. She came out of the shower, water dripping from her hair, and she turned seeing him, not at all surprised. “What’cha doing up here?” she smiled at him and tucked her towel around herself. Coming to stand in front of him, his words literally evaporated as Emma smiled and dropped the towel. She pushed him back gently, and leaned over him, her wet curls dripping on him, but he didn’t care. He grabbed her by the waist with one hand, and back of her neck with the other, molding her to him and kissed her deeply.
Emma moaned against his tongue and said “door”, and he pulled back “first thing I took care of Swan” and he rolled her beneath him. “I missed you, I don’t like sleeping apart” she whispered, and her comment squeezed his heart. He kissed lightly down her neck, taking a soft nipple into his mouth. Emma arched, moaning and Killian stopped. “Can you be quiet love?” and she nodded. “Good” and he went back to it, switching breasts, rolling her nipples softly as he worked his way to her core. Her skin was so soft, he loved how she smelled. He stood, untying his board shorts and kicked them off, and pulled her legs toward him, dragging her to the edge of the bed. He placed each of her long legs over his shoulders and pushed forward, Emma enveloping him. She gasped “Oh god, you’re so deep” she moaned.  Killian lifted her hand nudging her to place it over her mouth.
Emma clamped her palm over her mouth. She was lost, the feeling of Killian so deep inside her like this, her skin on fire. Each drag of him inside her pushed her higher and higher. She could hardly contain her moans, and pushed him back with her legs, shocking him. “What….” And she rolled over onto her stomach and pulled a pillow towards her face. Killian understood, and knelt behind her, hooking an arm under her hips bringing that perfect ass in the air. He plunged back in and the pillow muffled Emma’s cries. He squeezed her hips tightly as he pounded into her, his balls slapping against her clit and the friction bringing his orgasm nearly to the brink. He kept at a punishing pace, and reached around rubbing at her clit, her walls were getting hot and tighter around him, she gripped him so tightly his eyes closed, and he had to tip his head back.
“Fuck Emma” he growled trying to be quiet, and she began meeting him thrust for thrust, rocking her ass against him, and he pushed harder and deeper. Emma’s legs began to shake, and she gripped the pillow tightly trying to muffle her moans, “Now Killian, now!” she cried, her voice muffled, and he ground into her as deeply as he could. Emma’s cunt began fluttering wildly, tightening on to him, and he slowed letting the sensation rip through him, spilling deep inside her. He leaned back to pull out and laid over her back, and off to the side of her a little, giving her room to breathe. She turned to look at him, and he tucked her long curls behind her shoulder. “I love it when you lose control like that” she said quietly and giggled. He gave her a light tap on her ass, and she wiggled. “you’re so incredible” is all he could manage to say as her eyes sparkled at him. “So are you” and she leaned in to kiss him softly and laid her head on his chest running her hands through his chest hair, placing a kiss over his heart.
A little while later he found his voice, “go out with me?” he said she nodded. Rolling herself up and off the bed, “Where are we going?” she asked standing naked facing him and smiling softly. She looked so innocent and beautiful just like this, he burned the way she looked into his memory, not wanting to ever miss seeing this look on her face. He swallowed the thick emotion in his throat down, “I don’t know but we need a date, so let’s clean up and head out. We can bring Dave back some food” and she nodded and went into her bathroom for a few minutes and came out blow dried curls with a little makeup. She pulled on a sundress and some wedges and grabbed her purse. He circled her hips, you look lovely, and her stomach growled. He laughed and so did she, “Come on Swan, sustenance awaits” and he dragged her down to the kitchen swiping her keys to the bus off the hook by the door.
He drove, Emma played with the radio settling on some Van Morrison. The windows in the bus were rolled down, and the warm wind blew through the car, and she watched as he turned down different streets guiding them to their destination. “The Galley?” She asked puzzled and he nodded, “But we’re not dressed right” she frowned, and he shook his head. “So what?” he said, “you look beautiful love” and he led them inside and they were seated in a small booth. Twinkly lights and fishing nets hanging on the wall, a small candle votive on the table.
She smiled at him, “This is really nice” and he nodded. “You deserved a proper date; it’s been too long Em” and she nodded. She made small talk, and she questioned him moving. “Honestly, I think that I’ll probably pack up this weekend, and start taking my stuff over to the new place, if you want to help?” Emma smiled and nodded, “Of course!” and she smiled excitedly. “I am so proud of you babe, so proud” and he smiled, “I’m proud of you too Swan, the competition, it is amazing what you did. I just wanted to celebrate the little milestones in our big picture” and her heart squeezed. “I love you” she said, her eyes soft and dreamy, “As I love you.”
They grabbed Dave some battered shrimp and fries and brought them back home to him. He was up and, on the couch, greeting them when they walked in. “Hey, where have you guys been?” Emma shrugged, “went to dinner, hungry?” she said and handed him the container, “Famished actually” he said taking it quickly and smiling. “That medicine knocked me out cold, but I feel loads better now” and he tucked into the food.
Emma went to the fridge about to grab some lemonade for the three of them, and Killian surprised her in the doorway. “I’m going to head home love” and she pouted but nodded. “Don’t be sad Swan, I had a lovely day and night with you love.” “I just don’t want to be apart” she said quietly. “Soon enough angel, soon enough” and he held her tightly.  She walked him to the door, and he grabbed his board, “Night Dave” he called, and kissed her. “Do you work tomorrow?” he asked her, “Yeah, at ten, off at 4” and he nodded, “me too, 9-3, see you afterwards?” and she nodded kissing him one more time.
Dave had demolished his food and leaned back against the couch. “How ya feeling, need anything?” she asked him, and he shook his head at her, but patted the cushion. “Come on princess, lets watch a movie.” She snuggled against him as he flipped through the channels. “Dave, do you worry about your future with M and school?” He looked down, “No, not really. While she is at school, I will be too, and we both work now, it’s not like I surf every day during the year, the summer was different, but this was really our last summer to do something like this. You still have next summer with Ruby and M before you guys start college. Why?” “No reason.” she said quietly. He sat up, “Talk to me Em” he said patiently.
“What if Killian doesn’t have time for me? I mean I have one more year of high school, and then I start college too. Mom will be here alone a lot, you and I both gone, and maybe you will move out with M, and this house would just be too big without us for her.” He nodded, “Well M and I had talked about eventually moving in together, probably just like you and Killian but that’s a ways away Em, so just be patient. Don’t put the cart before the horse just yet” and she nodded, his good arm going around her shoulder and they fell asleep like that until Ruth came home waking them and sending them off to bed, Emma stopping to call Killian to say goodnight.
Killian walked into their flat and noticed that there were boxes stacked and labeled in Liam’s scrawling handwriting. Books, Clothes, Kitchen, etc. His heart deflated a little, and as he entered his own bedroom, he noticed a stack of flat boxes. He wasn’t tired and decided he may as well start packing up some things. He moved to his closet, pulling sweaters, and things down, separating them into boxes, and moved on to his bookshelf, packing up his books, and labeling boxes.
A strange feeling comes over Killian, this was their home, like their first real home after mom died, and the tears begin to fall. He sits on his bed and hears the phone ring. “Hello?” “Hey babe” “Hi Swan” his voice ragged. “I’m coming by, see you in a few” and before he could respond his buzzer went off and he went to let her in.
“Killian, what’s the matter?” she said, green eyes filled with trepidation, and he leaned forward placing his head against her shoulder. Emma’s arms immediately embrace him, and she takes in the sight. Boxes, labeled boxes, packed up, their home being packed up. She understood immediately, without saying a word she led him by the hand to his room. She sees the boxes in his room, his books, sweaters, his life in boxes.
“Killian, talk to me” and she patted the spot next to her on the bed. He sat, and he leaned forward, head in his hands. “Do you want me to leave?” she asked, maybe he didn’t want her to witness this, and needed space. “I can give you space” and he responded viscerally “NO! Just no, don’t leave me Emma, please.” She just sat, giving him a minute. “Do you want to go to bed?” she asks quietly, and he nods. “I’ll be right back” and she walked to his kitchen and dialed home, he didn’t hear what she said but gathered her mom understood she wasn’t coming home.
She stepped into his room, and shucked her tee shirt and jeans, dropped her bra and pulled on one of his soft tee shirts. “Come on babe” and she pulled him until he was lying beside her. Killian curled around her, soaking in her warmth, her sweetness, her goodness. He nuzzled his nose into her hair, breathing her in. “Hold on” and he leaned over into his nightstand, grabbing a box, the one he planned to give Emma for her birthday. He brought it to her attention, “I planned to wait, giving you this for your birthday, but now seems a good as time as any.” Emma, this was my mother’s wedding band. I intend to give it to you now as a promise, a token to remind you that I am in this, good, bad, hard, the long haul, you can even wear it on your right hand. When I propose, you’ll know, but this is a way for me to show you that I am in this, and I want you to carry of piece of me with you always.”
Emma had tears streaming down her cheeks, her eyes wide at his promise, she was completely silent. Killian continued, “With everything changing rapidly, I am lost, and I need a tether, a guiding star, a true north. I know that is you for me, regardless of where I go, my home is with you, here” and he placed his hand over her heart.
Emma took the box with shaky hands, the thin gold band embellished with engraved flowers in a delicate pattern. She nodded, her voice caught in her throat, “yes Killian, I know you aren’t asking that question yet, but yes, my answer is yes, and it will be yes when that time comes.” He smiled, taking the band out and slid it down her ring finger on her right hand, it fitting almost perfectly, and she launched herself at him.
“Gods Emma, I love you so much” and he kissed her, feeling her tears against his cheeks, and she kissed him back with everything she had. She rolled atop him and he gripped on to her, molding her to him, rolling her beneath him he slid her panties down and she fumbled to free him from his boxers. He was sitting back on his heels, and he pulled Emma into his lap, she knelt up and lowered herself slowly onto his cock. The onslaught of feeling Emma wrapped around him, looking deeply into his eyes as she rose and lowered herself slowly, nipping at his lips was so intense. His finger gripped the tee shirt she was still wearing, pulling her against him tighter, burying his face in her neck.
Emma felt like her body was on fire, a slow burning fire. Each rock, and each pull between them pushing her higher and higher. She clutched on to Killian like a lifeline, and she felt how tight he gripped her, she was his. The slow pace not the practiced dance that they knew so well, this was more, deeper, more intense. When he groaned her name in a plea, she ground down deeper on to him, pushing him as deep as he could go.
Killian bit down on her neck lightly, and she cried out softly, her orgasm spasming deep and slow, rolling in waves as she felt Killian twitch and heat flood inside her. They stayed like that for a few moments, until Killian laid her back and grabbed his tee shirt off the floor wiping her gently and rolled her panties back on her. He laid on his back, pulling her into his side, and they drifted off to sleep, her blonde hair tickling his nose, and his heart completely filled with Emma, the loneliness receded back into the darkness of his mind.

Shipping Container Home Storage Ideas
Using self storage units provide a great option for people to hold onto keepsakes with sentimental value and other personal items, while not having to buy a larger property. The “4Ds of life” – death, divorce, downsizing and dislocation – are facts of life and create a major disruption in our lives. Changing life situations can force someone to live in limbo for periods. They may need to move households and need a space to buy new shipping container store their belongings until they can settle into a new, more permanent situation.
Shipping container self storage may offer them a secure place to keep their possessions until they can get settled into a new place.
In the USA, self storage statistics report that nearly 10% of American households need additional self storage and spends an average monthly cost of $87.89 for a self-storage unit. Nationally, the number of storage facilities ranges somewhere between 45,000 to 60,000.
The 10 most in-demand USA cities for self-storage units. Rank City, State 10 Miami, FL 9 Brooklyn, NY 8 San Diego, CA 7 Las Vegas, NV 6 Phoenix, AZ 5 San Antonio, TX 4 Chicago, IL 3 New York, NY 2 Los Angeles, CA 1 Houston, TX
How much does it cost to rent commercial self storage space vs buying a shipping container? Of course, the answer to this question depends a lot on your specific needs. At commercial self storage facilities, 10’x10′ is the most popular storage unit size, which measures one-hundred square feet and might compare to approximately half the size of a regular garage. A general guideline is that the 100 square foot space will fit the contents of a two-bedroom apartment.
The smallest units average about $50 per month. Much larger spaces cost upwards of $300 per month. Some storage businesses require a 12 month contract to be signed. When you buy a shipping container for self storage you have a one time cost and you own the container forever. If you don’t have an available space to store your container, you possibly may need to rent a small space on a property that is located at a convenient distance to you.
Are shipping containers your best choice for self storage? Most of the people who buy an empty Conex container are using it to store furniture and other possessions that take up a large amount of space. Home based business owners like online sellers who store and ship inventory through websites like EBay, Gumtree and Craigslist find they need somewhere to securely store their products. Additionally, with less storage space (basements and garages) in condos, homeowners are looking for an easy and affordable self storage solution.
Why should we use shipping containers as self-storage units? A short answer: because of their design, construction, size and affordability. A little searching will show that you can buy a used shipping container for a really affordable price (we will address the details later in this article). By their very nature, cargo containers are made to be easily transported to whatever site you require. You may be looking for relocate the container for a household move, in which case it can just be picked up and follow you on your move. Even if you don’t have plans to move the container from one location to another, the containers can be set up quickly and all of your possessions moved inside for safe keeping.
Shipping containers are specifically engineered to be stacked, transportable, and are constructed from corrugated metal sheets that are welded together. The steel boxes are subjected to rigorous quality assurance tests for water resistance, and the ability to withstand moisture, the effects of salt and withstand extreme weather conditions.
Why do shipping containers make really great self storage units? Durability: Made of thick steel walls, strong and capable of storing bulky and heavy goods without damaging the interior of the storage space.
Watertight and Secure: Designed to withstand rains and extreme weather condition conditions during a sea voyage, the containers are in fact watertight against wet weather conditions. Their main function is to make certain that the contents remain dry and undamaged during their trip. Most shipping containers are made of a particular steel alloy called Corten Steel that is especially suited for outside weather conditions.
Vermin and pest proof. The containers are self-enclosed, with tight seals around the doors which prevents rodent and bugs entering and damaging your goods. This can be a problem in many storage facilities. These features combined offer solid security and added peace of mind with the confidence that your possessions are protected, dry and secure.
Low initial investment and low maintenance: Once you have set up your Conex box self storage, there is next to no ongoing maintenance or accumulating monthly rental costs. Buying a shipping container is a one time investment.
Long life expectancy: Shipping containers have a life expectancy of over two to three decades with minimum level of maintenance.
Security: Container entry is secure with a high quality pad lock on the doors and equipped with a special lock box. A “lock box” is housed inside a steel box welded to the doors protecting your padlock from being broken by burglar’s crowbar. Since your container is stand alone and not connected to other people’s storage units, you also have another protection against unwanted entry.
You can store a variety of goods inside. With a few important renovations (like insulation or the other suggestions later in this article), you can safely store almost anything from boxes, books, furniture, electronics without fear of moisture damage. Store larger items. With the ability to open the doors at both ends of the container, containers are easily accessible to store large sized objects.
Portability: Containers are designed to be easily movable, making them especially convenient for packing and for mobile storage needs.
Drive-up accessibility: You can pull up and park your vehicle directly at the doors to your container storage.
How do I choose the right container for storage? There are 2 main factors to consider: the grade or (the condition of how new the container is) and the size. One-Tripper or New Container These containers are brand new. Manufactured and shipped directly from China, having carried their first load of cargo. They will cost more and will be outfitted with new features like polyurethane floor coating, a pre-installed lock box, and handles and doors.
As-Is or General Purpose These are used containers that may have many miles on them. As the name “As-Is” suggests, this is a container purchased in its current, used condition. The cargo container walls may have dents, rust, flaking paint or punctures. The less than perfect condition will be reflected in a lower price. If you are storing spare mechanical parts on a vacant lot, a sparkling new container may not be important and you can save some money by buying a used Conex container.
The standard sizes of ISO shipping containers are: 8ft (2.43m) wide, 20ft (6.06m) in length and 8.5ft (2.59m) high ceiling 8ft (2.43m) wide, 40ft (6.06m) in length and 8.5ft (2.59m) high ceiling * Tall shipping containers called high-cube containers are available at 9.5ft (2.89m) high ceilings.

Residential Garage Door Service Companies
Tumblr media
Garage door maintenance is a must. If it's not fixed on time, then it poses a grave danger to you and your automobile in safety. You mustn't delay garage door repair. Repair your door right away to ensure maximum protection for your vehicle and your possessions.
There are a lot of quality companies that provide quality services for garage doors. Quality doesn't always mean price. Most often, lower cost means poor quality. The quality of a company determines the service quality too. Most repairing companies make repairs with the best possible materials and technology. They use quality standards as part of their business ethics.
A garage door installation or repair company can also offer a warranty for the work they perform. It makes no sense to buy a product and spend thousands of dollars later on repairs. You should only settle for professional service providers when you need repairs on door-related equipment. You should check their credentials first before letting them perform door installations.
Some companies offer a quick replacement of broken parts. This is possible because they have technicians who are well trained and skilled in garage door repair Oceanside CA. A technician from such a company will be able to replace faulty electric motors, pulleys, cables, and springs. But remember, you should only let a certified technician perform the replacement operation. A technician not specialized in garage door repair may damage your door or use improper replacement parts which can be hazardous to your home and property. Therefore, you should insist on a technician from a company that specializes indoor installations and repairs.
Aside from proper door installation and garage door repair, you should also check out the quality of the torsion spring used in the garage door repair San Diego installation. Most manufacturers recommend homeowners get their doors from companies that specialize in garage door installation and repair. The torsion spring is the part that lifts and lowers the door. It is highly trained technicians who can replace a defective spring with the proper one. A highly trained technician will know the exact value of the spring you bought and the best way to get it replaced.
You should also stay away from garage door companies that advertise on television. Most companies use exaggerated and over-the-top advertising strategies to attract customers. They may even exaggerate the cost of garage door repair and the benefits of hiring their technicians. Be very careful if you plan to let these companies repair your door for you. They may not give you a correct price quotation, so you should find one from an independent agency.
Always stay away from companies that are cutting corners. If you need garage door repair but the company offers you an unexpectedly cheap price, you should be suspicious because they are most likely cutting corners. A company that offers you quality service at an affordable price is most likely offering you real value for your money.
You must also be careful when hiring a garage door company or a technician to do your job. Some companies have technicians that are not licensed and they have been doing many garage door repair jobs that are not legitimate. They might be trying to avoid paying tax or insurance. You should always make sure that you hire a certified expert to do your job.
You can also prevent garage door installation problems from worsening by getting them checked as early as possible. Garage doors are delicate pieces of equipment that can be seriously damaged if they are not properly taken care of. This problem can only worsen if it is left unattended. The longer you leave it, the more damage it can incur.
A reputable garage door maintenance company should never try to charge you immediately for repairs. They should give you an estimate or provide you with an estimate in writing before they begin any work. The company should also give you a chance to ask any questions that you have about the repair or installation. In case there is something that you don't understand, you must get it clarified. A good company will give you accurate information so that you know what kind of problem you are dealing with before you get too expensive repairs.
In the end, you can only choose a garage door repair company that will give you an estimate in writing and will give you many options on how to address your door repair needs. The best company should be able to fix or replace any door problems within a very short period of time without charging you an arm and a leg. In most cases, you will be glad that you decided to repair your own door instead of calling in the professionals. After all, the extra money you will save on repairs will be used to upgrade your house!

Of the Eight Winds, Part 7
This is part seven in who knows how many from the prompt from @sunflowerseedsandscience : “Mulder is unhappily married when Scully is partnered with him, and while he doesn’t cheat (because sorry that’s not romantic), he falls for her so hard that he finally gets the courage to end the marriage and start fresh.”
Links to parts one, two, three, four, five and six.

When he repeated the words “I, Fox, take you, Dana” he made a face, and she couldn’t help but laugh. It was half nerves and half him and bubbled up from inside her. The officiant smiled at her indulgently, and Mulder repeated himself and again made a face, and again she laughed. This time she looked over her shoulder at her mother who was standing witness, giving her an “ honestly , Dana” look while simultaneously trying to hold a one-year-old Lily who did not want to be contained. Mulder repeated the vows one more time.
“I, Mulder, take you, Scully,” he said, changing the words to better suit them, and there was no funny face, and no laugh. There was only a rightness to it, which washed gently over her and settled her nerves.
When the officiant told Mulder he could kiss the bride, he leaned into her slowly, and then wrapped his arms around her tightly, lifting her feet up off the floor. There were whoops and hollers from the small congress of witnesses, one of which she knew for sure was Charlie, and another she suspected might actually be Skinner.
When they darted out to the car after the ceremony, they were pelted with sunflower seeds which Scully didn’t realize until Mulder picked one gently out of her hair and popped it into his mouth.
They didn’t have a reception, just a small dinner at an Alexandria restaurant.
Scully watched the way Doggett and Reyes sat, heads bent together at the other end of the table and nudged Mulder.
He put his arm around the back of her chair whispered in her ear.
“There’s just something about that office, Scully.”

They had both left the X-Files once Scully was pregnant enough not to be out in the field anymore. Scully transferred to her old teaching position at Quantico, and Mulder “retired,” opting to write books for a few years while he finished his PhD, later opening his own practice.
They consulted often with their replacements and Mulder felt like he spent just as much time at various FBI facilities as he did at home working.
When the Lone Gunmen were killed and buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Mulder stepped away, eventually deciding that his consulting days were over.
A couple of years later, after William was born, they received an “It’s a Boy!”  congratulations card postmarked from Arlington, Virginia. It was blank, but for a monogram as a signature, which read simply “TLG.”

As a one-year wedding anniversary gift, Melissa Scully offered to take Lily off of their hands for a week if they promised to go somewhere warm and tropical. Mulder figured Scully had probably put her sister up to it -- or at the very least had her add the tropical addendum to her gift, but either way it was nice to get away from it all. He hadn’t slept in one day since becoming a father.
Melissa came to their door with a small suitcase and a giddy smile, eyes only for her niece. She was rewarded with a big, sticky hug.
Mulder already had their luggage loaded in the car, but Scully lingered in the doorway, she was having trouble saying goodbye.
“Scully, our flight is in exactly two hours and I know you like to get to the airport early,” he said. He would not go back inside himself or he’d have trouble leaving, too.
Finally, Scully gave Lily one last hug and said to her sister, “the terrible twos are a real thing, Missy. Call us if you need us.”
“We’ll be fine,” Melissa said, and ushered Scully outside, Lily perched on her hip. Then she called “I’m not offering when she’s a threenager!”
On their flight home, Mulder reached for Scully’s hand.
“I’m not spending that much money on a tropical vacation again, if we’re never going to leave the room.”
Scully wiped a finger down one side of her mouth and gave his lap a meaningful look.
“Worth it,” she said.

Mulder defended and received his PhD with little fanfare.
Scully made him a celebratory pie (sweet potato), and they sat down on their back porch to eat it with a bottle each of Shiner Bock once they had both kids down.
It was a beautiful spring night, a warm breeze wafting through the woods behind their house. Mulder could almost swear he could smell the cherry blossoms from the district.
He leaned back after finishing his slice in record time and let his fork clatter to his plate. He lifted the beer to his lips.
When he set the beer back down on the table, there was a small brown box wrapped in white ribbon sitting next to his empty plate. Scully smiled at him as she took a sip of her own.
When he opened it, he found the antique brass compass that had passed between them several times.
“Regifting, Scully?” he said to her, mirroring words she’d once said to him.
“Turn it over,” she lobbed back.
Above the old To finding our way... inscription, it now read “ To Dr. M.” He leaned over and gave her a lingering kiss.
When he sat back down and picked up his beer, she reached over with her own and clinked the necks of the bottles together.
“Doctor,” she said to him on a nod.
“Doctor,” he nodded back.

With their second child, Scully went into labor a month early. He’d been speaking at a conference in New York when an organizer pulled him aside as he was exiting the stage from his last panel and told him he had a phone call. It was Mrs. Scully, who sounded concerned but was trying to hide it. In the background he could hear a muffled TV and then a worried three-year-old “ Where’s daddy ?”
The train ride back to DC was torture. He was anxious, could barely sit still. He kept calling Mrs. Scully who said she didn’t know much -- they’d had to take Dana into a Labor & Delivery room and Lily was really bothered by the whole situation so she’d taken her home to her house. Melissa, who had planned to be Scully’s doula, was in San Diego with Bill.
Later, when he was holding the baby for the first time, Scully’s doctor came into the room. There had been some complications with the labor, but Scully hadn’t elaborated, and Mulder had been too elated to by the birth of his son to give it much thought.
The OB informed them that she didn’t think it was possible for Dana to have any more children.
While the doctor was going through the finer points of it, Scully reached out and squeezed his hand so hard it hurt. He could only hear the roaring of blood in his ears.

Scully thought “Crusher” was a ridiculous name for a cat. However, family tradition mandated that every pet be named after a female doctor and Will got naming rights on this one. He had recently gotten really into Star Trek .
The cat sat on the coffee table, as black and fluffy as her predecessor, but with a slightly more quarrelsome personality. Scully thought it was probably fitting being that their first born was about to be a freshly minted teenager.
Mulder came into the living room carrying an enormous bowl of popcorn with Lily on his heels, sulky as she plopped into an easy chair. Good grades had earned Will the Saturday evening activity of his choice and he’d opted for a family viewing of the first Lord of the Rings movie. No family member’s presence was optional and Lily loathed sci-fi/fantasy, much to Mulder’s dismay.
He set down the bowl, which Crusher nosed thoughtfully, and cut his eyes to his wife.
“Will’s in charge of the ice cream,” he said, his eyes widening with a look of slightly anxious amusement.
“Is that wise?” Scully asked.
“No,” said Lily quickly with no small amount of sass, earning her a sharp look from her mother.
Will came in then balancing four tubs of Ben & Jerry’s and several spoons. He paused when he reached the coffee table and gave Mulder a significant look.
“They come in pints,” he said with a British accent, which launched Mulder into an uncharacteristic fit of hysterics. Lily rolled her eyes. Scully wondered what was so funny.

Scully had had one of the longest days on record, and if she walked into a messy house one more time, she swore she would walk directly up to her bathroom, climb into a hot bathtub and not get out until morning.
When she got to their front door, she could barely open it for the load of hockey equipment in front it.
“That’s it,” she said to herself.
She would have followed her oath to the letter if she hadn’t tripped on a cat toy halfway through the kitchen. Mulder and the kids were all parked in various spots around the room.
“You okay?” Mulder asked her, barely looking up.
Her silence spoke volumes and eventually the three Mulders in the house were looking at her with a kind of low grade fear.
“Why,” she said, struggling to keep her voice steady, “am I the only person in this house who cleans it?”
Will opened his mouth to say something, but Mulder put a hand on the boy’s arm.
“The mop has a handle, not an access code,” she said, giving them each a cold glare before heading up the stairs. “I will be in the tub,” were her parting words.
When she came down a couple hours later, wrapped in a silk bathrobe and a significantly better attitude, she found the house spic and span, a rumpled looking Mulder sitting quietly at the kitchen counter nursing a Coke.
“The house looks great,” she said, and he smiled at her.
“We’ve implemented a few extra columns on the chore chart,” he said, “and I have a row now, too.”
She reached for the Coke and he handed it over.
“Got you something,” he said, and nodded at a lone parcel sitting on the countertop.
When she unwrapped it she found a hastily made homemade sign, made from what she could tell was scrap lumber that had been sitting around the garage. Painted on it were three words in three different handwriting styles. It read “Bless This Mess.” They had all signed it.
She felt her eyes start to tear.
“It’s hideous,” she said, and Mulder laughed. “You can hang it over there,” she sniffed.
It would hang in their kitchen for the rest of their days.

Lily was 17 and was just getting over the nightmarish huffy know-it-all stage of the early teens. Mulder and William—who had just hit the gawky, all arms and legs stage of adolescence—were sitting at the dining room table, taking apart Mulder’s old VCR. It had stopped rewinding and they had a plan to watch Plan 9 From Outer Space that night. Mulder swore the movie was better on video, so William swore it too.
“We’re missing a screw,” Mulder said to his son, who was in charge of keeping the various component parts together on the table.
“We’re not, I handed them all to you,” Will said.
Lily came skidding into the kitchen, grabbing the edge of the doorway to keep her balance.
“Dad,” she said, her voice tremulous and shaky. Mulder was on his feet before she finished saying his name. “There’s something wrong with mom.”
Mulder tore up the steps, the thundering steps of his children right behind him and skidded to a halt in the door of the master bath. Scully was on the floor--he couldn’t tell whether or not she was conscious.
“I heard a thump and I came in here and she was like this,” said Lily, nearly in tears.
“It’s okay, Lil,” he said distractedly, reaching forward to feel for a pulse on Scully’s neck.
When his fingers met her flesh, she inhaled deeply, and tried to sit up.
“Mulder?” she said, her eyes flickering open “what… what happened?”
“Honey, you passed out,” he said, giving her a hand to sit up.
She looked pale, but glanced over his shoulder at the worried faces of their two kids and said, “I’m okay guys.”
She did a self-assessment and convinced a not-really-convinced Mulder that she was fine, with the caveat that she go to the doctor first thing the next morning, and when she walked into the house after her appointment, she looked shocked and was shaking.
Mulder walked over to her and tipped up her chin to connect eyes.
“Don’t make me guess,” he said quietly.
Her eyes shone and she gave him a tentative smile.
“I’m pregnant,” she said.
