In honor of General Conference coming up this weekend, as well as a recent uptick in new folks pokin’ around the tumblrstake tag to see what we’re about, may I humbly present my favorite Mormon joke of all time:
A doctor of psychology and long-time atheist decides he has a foolproof way to prove which church is true. So he calls in a Catholic priest, a Protestant pastor, and a Mormon bishop. He tells ‘em “I’ve got a psycho killer in here. Whichever of you can baptize him, I’ll join and endorse your church.”
The priest, while understandably shook, thinks he has this in the bag. All he has to do is run in, sprinkle the guy with water, and then book it. So he braces himself, douses his hands, and goes for it. No dice—the psycho killer is freakishly fast and pounces on him, snapping his neck.
The pastor’s got a harder job: he has to physically get the guy underwater. But lucky for him, he was a linebacker all through college, so he’s got a plan to play to his strengths. He’s gonna tackle the guy into the water, and then he wins. That part works fine, but then the psycho killer holds him down and drowns him.
The bishop’s been really quiet, thinking about how he’s gonna get out of this mess. After thinking real hard for a few minutes, he tells the professor he’s ready to go in.
The killer comes at him.
He pulls out a Glock.
Unloads four rounds into his chest and kills him instantly.
On his way out, he tells the professor, “Call me back in a year, and we’ll book some baptisms for the dead.”

General Conference Doodles 4/5/2025, Saturday morning session
I already made the Tokyo Temple into a giant robot, and there are only four (LDS) temples in Japan, so I figured I might as well get cracking on the other 3. Here’s the Fukuoka Japan Temple with a giant sword.

Hey! Hey Tumblrstake! Does anybody know where I can get one of them sacrilegious conference bingo cards that have squares like "Elder Uchtdorf mentions planes?" I fear my current medical condition requires some interesting methods to stay awake this go-round 😜

Here's the thing, while yes, this talk was VERY pro-life, Elder Anderson blatantly stated we should SUPPORT and NOT judge.
Support the teen moms.
Support those who chose to give their children up for adoption.
Support those who make the hard decision on having an abortion.
And also, support the children who are the result of unwise choices. Because they are not to blame.

Whenever I hear someone bring up "the moral decline of society" my mind always goes to the global rise of fascism even though I know that's unfortunately probably not what they mean

A talk on not giving up on those who leave and hoping/waiting for them to return.
What a joke.
First of all, the day I marry my fiancee, the church will be more than gleeful to kick us out because we're lesbians. The church isn't welcoming of those who leave. It isn't welcoming to those of us who stay.
Talks like this infantize those who leave. We haven't lost any light. PIMOs are proof that the church can't tell who has left the faith and who hasn't.
Until the church is actually open to all, like Jesus would be welcoming to all, then less people will return.

The one thing I do really like about Neil L Andersen’s talk is the importance of how teenage mothers need support financial and emotional.

Really loving General Conference this weekend. I've been keeping myself awake by writing down one thing I get from each talk. This is the talk that I've written the most about, and it's from Sister Tamara W. Runia from the Young Women General Presidency. Here is a clip from it. It talks about how even if we feel like we're falling short from perfection, God still loves us infinitely no matter what choices we make and how hard we try to be like Him.

I actually really like when we talk about church history, because I love reminding people that our history is full of stories of immigration, of fleeing violence and poverty. The pioneers literally fled the United States to Mexico! The historical significance and chance for likening the stories to the modern day is RIGHT THERE

the one thing I'll always love about mormon masculinity is that we will not be having any of that "haha I hate my wife" shit. the male general authorities set the example every single conference of saying "I love my wife, she's the best person I know, I'm the most lucky man who ever lived, every time we disagree I'm usually wrong because she's wiser and I've learned so much from her," etc. oaks was like "I'm releasing these men. give them and their wives a vote of thanks." the message to every man is to celebrate and appreciate the women he knows, not put them down.
