Fans of MDZS know about gentians as Mama Lan’s favorite flowers, but do they know how cool and varied gentians are? These are cream gentians, a less common variation of the blue gentians found in North American prairies. The tight tubes of the flowers are different than Asian varieties; they’re generally pollinated by chunky bumblebees with the build to muscle their way into the flowers. These were in bloom this weekend out at Fermilab’s prairie

Purple got a good grade on a test so they all went out to get ice cream.
Purple got pistachio, Orchid got toffee and RB got double chocolate.
I’m not sure at the moment but I kinda want to call Orchid “Peony” and RB “Gentian”. And I want to go along with DJ and say that Gentian is Purple’s mom and Peony is his dad. It used to be that pink was a boy’s color and blue was for girls.

Gentian flower sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing.
My sketches start life as hand-drawn graphite images made on cartridge paper. I often work on these with charcoal, oil pastel or Caran d'Ache to create the look I'm after. The artwork is then scanned and finessed digitally ready for fine art printing. This process often referred to as Giclée printing uses the highest standard of printing methods to give gallery quality results that maintain all the details of the original sketch.
The graphite pencils I use are Faber-Castel, the oil pastels are Sennelier and the china-graph is Caran d’Ache. The inks are pigment based archive quality (100years+). The heavyweight specialist papers I use are of the best professional quality having a wonderful surface designed specifically for fine art drawings and illustrations.
Very limited editions with only ten per size printed.
All artwork is signed and includes a certificate of authenticity.

Nux Vomica - Loganiaceae - Gentian
Nux Vomica is a plant remedy in the Gentian Order. As a plant remedy, there is a strong sensitivity – plants have limited defense mechanisms, can’t run away! They must be sensitive to survive, blowing in the wind and responding accordingly.
The Gentians are heartbroken and grief struck, much like other remedies in this family: Ignatia, Gelsemium, Curare, Spigelia. Dr Angelica Lemke describes gentian remedies as having a drive for workaholism and idealism out of a deep need for recognition and approval. There is a magic equation in which suppressed/unresolved emotions leads to a strong need to create an outer image of perfection. There is an void that must be filled.
The smaller family that Nux belongs to is the Loganiaceae family. They are hypersensitive and often feel shocked, shattered, paralyzed.

Tattoo Headcanons: Reina
I got a request for something symbolic to tie to Reina, the mama at Serena, if she were to have a tattoo.
I went with the gentian flower or "rindou" in Japanese. Gentian is an herb used in liqueurs and bitters, a nice reflection of Riena's occupation. In Japanese flower language gentian means "honesty" as well as "justice." Reina betrays Kiryu to try and help Nishiki, but regrets it almost immediately. She tries to make up for it, but dies in the process— justice for her dishonesty.
Gentian also sends the message "I love you best when you are sad." I thought that would be pretty fitting for the woman in love with resident Sad Boy Nishikiyama, as well as how Reina tries to leverage other people's tragedy to help herself.

It’s day 10 of Stream Ink and today’s word is Bouquet! After a lot of deliberation I landed on a little still life of a breakfast table laden with a cheerful vase and marmalade and toast for two, and I’m really pleased with it.
I wanted to make it seasonal, so I settled on the vibrant blue gentian flower, which are, significantly, late bloomers. I paired them with edelweiss, symbolic of devotion, and despite being unlikely to meet, they pair well together given their mutual ability to grow out of tough circumstances into something so beautiful.
