Fun fact: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Season 5 Episode 24, The Mane Attraction, canonized Gillian Berrow's chapter books. Here is the dialogue from the episode:
Twilight Sparkle: And thanks to Pinkie's connections organizing the Ponypalooza Rock Concert, we've got quite a lineup for the Helping Hooves Music Festival.
The dialogue references Pinkie Pie and the Rockin' Ponypalooza Party!

Apparently, it was confirmed in a LinkedIn post 2 months ago that Chapter 6 was "the final chapter" of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark. This was posted by Parishi Pabari, who works for Hasbro and is responsible for the global brand management of My Little Pony.
This isn't exactly surprising, but this currently seems to be the most official source stating that the show has actually ended. Presumably, if there is somehow more 3D MLP content in the future, it will not be part of Make Your Mark.
Tumblr media
In related news, Gillian Berrow, the story editor and developer of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark, updated her LinkedIn profile recently to reflect that she is currently not working for Hasbro, after having worked on various parts of the My Little Pony franchise since 2013.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On LinkedIn, Berrow explains her roles on G5 projects as follows:
Most recently, I wrote the screenplay for the hit Netflix animated feature film, My Little Pony: A New Generation, and developed the new animated Netflix series that followed, My Little Pony: Make Your Mark. On MLP:MYM, I acted as the Story Editor/Head Writer-- overseeing the development, writing, and editing of scripts, as well as collaborating with the animation, voice, and music teams to ensure the quality and consistency of the show.

Giving my argument as to why this is not the G4 you think they’re connected to. (Moving the next two up)
Tumblr media
For starters, this is in no way an Indictment on Generation 5. I’ve been enjoying it and am looking forward to more episodes. But if there is one flaw is that it’s being sold as a continuation of Generation 4. The problem is as the show keeps going on, the more it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Even with the movie basically showing the original Mane Six has things making you question how things go.
Tumblr media
Magic is gone, yet the weather acts on its own, nobody is controlling the sun or moon, hybrid animals that Generation 4 established to be magically made still exist, cutie marks happen like usual, and so on. And after the movie, outside IDW because it's IDW, the only references to the past are Nightmare Night, Nightmare Moon, Twilight Sparkle and Spike, who conveniently doesn’t remember much of the past. Why is that?
Tumblr media
For writing purposes, you’re creating a brand new series. You would want to bring in your own ideas into the mix and sometimes that contradicts the previous. It's not a problem when it's a unique take, but to be a supposed continuation means any changes you make will definitely be put to question because you are continuing the original. Of course, there could be another reason.
Tumblr media
At PonyCon Holland, Gillian Berrow (Showrunner of Generation 5) said that Discovery still owns part of Generation 4. So any references to that means paying Discovery for the usage of Friendship is Magic stuff. At least when it comes to the ponies. That means you will most likely not see Twilight or the others again. And it also explains why Spike looks so different from the Dragons of the past.
Tumblr media
So what does this mean for Generation 5 and its connection to Generation 4? Basically, it's an alternate universe. One where certain events did or did not happen. All the contradictions can be explained with that. And that would also give the G5 writers the freedom to do their stories without having to worry about continuity. It's exactly how I’m doing GLAB while trying to stay as close to the original canon as I can.
Tumblr media
By now if you enjoy Generation 5 you probably already don’t care about the connection to the past. But if you are a Gen 4 lover who doesn’t like Gen 5 because of that, just think of it as an alternate world. Or you think the Manga is canon and Discord created Pony Life which eventually led to Generation 5. Whichever one best suits your beliefs.

Nowe Pokolenie w świecie kucyków „My Little Pony”
Wracamy do Equestrii – wiele się zmieniło, odkąd ostatni raz widzieliśmy Twilight i jej przyjaciółki. Equestria straciła swoją magię! Magia zniknęła, ponieważ zniknęła wielka przyjaźń, a ziemskie kucyki, jednorożce i pegazy żyją teraz w osobnych królestwach.

Catching up with our Bipedal Brethren.
Tumblr media
So since I was done with Season 7, that means the movie is next. But I wanted to look at the Prequel Comics to see if they add anything to the movie experience. So until then, we’ll be looking at the Equestria Girls side of the franchise for the time being. Starting off with their first special: Dance Magic. And this takes place after Legend of Everfree because we’re seeing them work on a fundraising goal for that.
Tumblr media
It starts off with the girls doing a carwash. They washed every car available and between that, the Bake Sale and the Doggie Daycare they only got half way to their goal and it's due next week. So it’s Rarity to the rescue as she has a plan. And that plan is not existent because she just wanted to sound confident. Luckily for her, Plot Convenience News announced that there’s a Dance Music Video Competition and that inspires Rarity.
Tumblr media
So inspired, she immediately signs up for it without telling anyone else. But you know who she does tell during this time? The Crystal Prep Girls, minus Indigo. Apparently, according to Gillian M. Berrow (writer) and Ishi Rudell (1/2 Director), she was on vacation at the time. And I’m going to assume since the deadline is next week, this contest has only a few days remaining to enter, giving them enough time to make a video and receive the prize in under a week.
Tumblr media
After telling Crystal Prep her idea on a music video, Rarity goes to the girls to tell them her plan. It’s a gamble because if they win they can get 4x the amount they have now but she would need the money they earned now to make the costumes, thus if they lose they’re back to 0 with no time to raise it. And that means it's all or nothing. The girls agree because what else they got? While the outfits look great, their choreography needs a lot of work.
Tumblr media
And when Rarity went back to the mall to get emergency materials, she found the Crystal Prep Girls stole her idea. She tells the other girls and with Twilight’s help getting to Crystal Prep (the school at least), Rarity tries to convince them to not steal her idea. They claim that they’re done and if she tried to do her idea, it would be like she stole theirs. Defeated, she turned to the girls to try a different music video idea, but none of them included dancing.
Tumblr media
Going for a Depressing Ice Cream Treat, Rarity overhears the Crystal Prep girls. They lied since they only got the dancing part and not the original music part. Finding out they did it so they can get their class a Yacht party, Rarity suggests a collaboration. Crystal Prep provides the dance, Rainbooms provides the music, and they split the money since it’s more than enough to cover both their needs (I hope).
Tumblr media
As for the song, I’m not a fan. It’s honestly forgettable to me. What would improve it? Well, if it was more synth, and has the lyrics to Best Friends Until the End of Time be the majority of it. Luckily for me, SU Mashups provided. The episode ends with them winning, getting the money in time, and the Rainbooms getting to go on that Yacht party. Overall, not a fan of this episode. It didn’t give Rarity a chance to shine like her other solo outings. But how will it match up in this trilogy of episodes? Only time will tell.

“High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens will lead the voice cast of “My Little Pony: A New Generation,” a Netflix film based on the popular children’s toy line.
The animated adventure’s cast will also include Kimiko Glenn (“Orange Is the New Black”) and James Marsden (“Enchanted”), with the two playing Izzy Moonbow and Hitch Trailblazer. Hudgens will put her spin on Sunny Starscout — these ponies have quite the surnames.
Entertainment One is backing the film, which debuts on Netflix on September 24, 2021, at which point it will delight parents and kids by joining a heavy rotation of other animated fare. The film was originally intended to be distributed theatrically by Paramount Pictures, but due to the COVID pandemic, those plans were altered and the project wound up at Netflix.
Other cast members include Sofia Carson, Liza Koshy, Ken Jeong, Elizabeth Perkins, Jane Krakowski, Phil LaMarr and Michael McKean.
Here’s the official synopsis: “The unimaginable has happened…Equestria has lost its magic! Earth Ponies, Unicorns and Pegasi are no longer friends and now live separated by species. But idealistic Earth Pony Sunny (Vanessa Hudgens) is determined to find a way to bring enchantment and unity back to their world. Teaming up with open-hearted Unicorn Izzy (Kimiko Glenn), the pair travel to faraway lands where they encounter the likes of charismatic and brave Pegasi Pipp (Sofia Carson) and Zipp (Liza Koshy) and the ever-responsible fellow Earth Pony Hitch (James Marsden). Their mission is full of misadventures, but these new best friends each possess their own unique and special gifts that may be just what this pony-verse needs to restore magic and prove that even little ponies can make a big difference.”
The film is directed by Robert Cullen, José L. Ucha, and co-directed by Mark Fattibene. The story was created by Cullen and Ucha, and Tim Sullivan. The screenplay was written by Sullivan and Gillian Berrow. Cecil Kramer and Peter Lewis produced.
We thought this was going to be a series. Or maybe it will be with a different cast?!?!

Equestria Girls: Digital Series
All right, this is only going to be the first half. Or...the first six-elevenths, I guess. I can take only so much amazingness at a time.
“School of Rock”
I’m feeling like I’m not going to have a lot to say for this one, since nothing is really happening.
When magma rises to the surface as lava, it manifests itself as confetti. That’s just science.
“Maud Squad”. You guys are terrible. I love it.
“A Fine Line”
Oh, Tirek’s Revenge. And here I was thinking it was going to be another dinosaur-related episode (that, or the video game would have something to do with getting it on and banging a gong).
“This is the line for the line.” Or it’s just...the rest of the line. Don’t be weird about it.
I’m betting this guy knows a lot about going on a quest with his “buds”.
A hippie stoner whose best friend is a stereotypical nerd? Hmm... I guess that’s not outside the range of possibilities.
That’s an awfully long string that you got out of that one small section of the apple’s peel, Applejack. Showing that the whole apple had been peeled would have made more sense, guys.
Do people still stand in line for hours to buy video games? Doesn’t everyone just buy digital copies now? I mean, I still buy physical copies of things, but that’s because I’m a colossal dork who’s severely behind the times. Things were better back in my day, dammit! There were none of these damn kids on my lawn back then, either!
“The REVENGE?” Okay, I know that seemed funny when you wrote it, but that’s...bizarrely out of character for Fluttershy. Please don’t do that again.
“Pinkie Sitting”
I rewound and listened to this about five times, and I still can’t figure out what Rarity says, “...filling in for my babysitting...” Unpleuour? Young Pluot? Umple Wah?
“You’re a small pink lifesaver!” You’re all the same size. You always have been.
Goddamnit, Pinkie (and whoever wrote this*), some kids actually do want to just sit in silence and read. So what if you’re bored? You’re the babysitter! You don’t have to do stuff with her! You just have to supervise and make sure she doesn’t die!
*For the record, it was Gillian M. Berrow, writer of “The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows” and “Fluttershy Leans In”. Of course it was.
“Queen of Clubs”
The fact that you made a visual pun with the Fencing Club WITHOUT explaining the joke is greatly appreciated. Take notes, people!
Wig Club? Seriously, what the hell is that?
Good lord, this school has more clubs than even an anime high school. And they have shit like mahjongg and competitive grabbing-cards-off-the-ground!
“Overpowered”
I’m not sure if you gain or lose points for including ripoff music from E.T. as well.
Pinkie Pie’s power is...food? Just...any food? Uh-huh.
You guys use your powers more, and that makes your powers stronger? I mean, credit for having magic work the opposite of how it usually does in fiction, but...it doesn’t really make sense this way. Also, super-duper-extra-negative points for taking what could definitely be an interesting enough concept for a full episode and cramming it into a two-and-a-half-minute short.
No, wait, making a human version of Zephyr Breeze is what gets you those super-duper-extra-negative points. That is not okay. Forgetting he existed was my new goal in life, and now I have to start all over again.
“The Finals Countdown”
I would say I’m surprised you didn’t save this pun for a short with Vinyl Scratch and call it “The Vinyl Countdown”, but PONIES: The Anthology V already beat you to it.
Dammit! You were so close! You almost made it through the whole thing without one of these being a song, but you just couldn’t resist, could you?
Hmm... Fluttershy had the result of “cat”, which is definitely not right, but Sunset got the answer without showing her work, so that’s an automatic fail. The fact that Pinkie Pie got “cupcake” does not surprise me in the least.
Wait, wait, wait, why does that diagram show 6.5 * 2? Shouldn’t it be 6.5 + 2 for the height of the dress? And where did the * 5 come from? The price based on the height? Shouldn’t you charge by the amount of fabric, which would depend on more factors than just the height? Show all your steps, dammit, Rarity! You didn’t even use your units correctly! You’re gonna fail your finals!
Apparently math is the only class that has a final. Must be nice.
I like how Twilight had herself third on the list, that she even had herself on the list, and that she didn’t check herself off automatically.
You didn’t need to do anything with Sunset, remember? She got the right answer! She’s gonna be fine!
Fluttershy’s technique is...flash cards? Oh, but it’s an animal holding the flash cards, so that means it’s specialized for her. Right.
Similarly, just writing the problem on a balloon is enough for Pinkie to get the concept. At this point, I think the problem is you guys.
I honestly can’t figure out how their math test is going to involve building a molecular structure in any way.
Well, now I know why they were dreading their tests. They seem to consist of a standardized bubble sheet and absolutely no questions whatsoever. How the hell are you supposed to get any of them right?
Expect the other half in a week’s time!
