My personal highlights - 2023 - part 6:
The birds I see when I am visiting my father. There is a lake nearby and a large colony of rooks and of course the birds and squirrels in the garden, plus this year hornets decided to use a nesting box.

There are still young birds on the way - like these little fluff balls.

Most of the times I take pictures of birds on my walks, in the park, at the lake or in a nature reserve, but there is also so much joy in just watching the birds that visit my bird feeder. And sometimes I manage to take a picture from my sofa (mostly through my more or less clean windows which is the reason for the rather poor picture quality). Here are some of my regular visitors - blue tits, great tits (in this case a juvenile one), greenfinches, bullfinches (here a male, but the female is never far away) and of course robins, who only rarely visit the feeder but love the meal worms offered on a plate beside the little bird bath.

Léon Gimpel  (1873-1948) ~ The aviator ‘Pépéte’ has just shot down a ‘taube’ with his machine gun. Paris, 19 September 1915.
In 1915 Gimpel befriended a group of children from the Grenata Street neighborhood in Paris who had established their own "army". He began to visit them regularly on Sundays, helping them to build their arsenal from whatever was to hand, providing direction in "casting", and recording with his camera the army’s triumphs over the evil enemy , the Boche.   Gimpel was charmed by these children and... continue reading
