on motherhood

a bit spontaneously coming back to this as a new chapter began 3 years ago. i am so humbled in this process, continually. not sure if this online format will compare to my written journals but i'm curious to try both in tandem.

themes on my mind lately:

-parenthood/childhood patterns

-seeing and being seen

-control vs guidance vs trust

-mothertongue

-the beauty of imagination

i'm/i've starting a bit of the artist's way/morning pages and parenthood psychology reflection and we'll see where this goes

I used to love making leaves….eventually I wanted a whole tree….but the tree beetle got me

You know the book about the giving tree? A boy comes and a tree gives him a piece of itself and continues to do this until the boy is an old man and the tree is nothing but a stump. Sometimes I feel like that's all I'm good at. And, like the tree, I wish I could break off parts of myself until I was completely spent up. But as beautiful as it is to give, it makes me sad. Because I feel like I just want a good excuse to wither.

On Fire, but Not Consumed

There the angel of the LORD appeared to Moses as fire flaming out of a bush. When he looked, although the bush was on fire, it was not being consumed. (Exodus 3:2) What a remarkable sight: a bush on fire, but not consumed. “I must turn aside to look,” Moses thinks, asking “Why does the bush not burn up?” On fire, but not consumed.
