Disney Song Explanations for the Non-Romanceable 3

MURIEL

THEME SONG Out There: Hear me out on this one. I’m pretty sure Muriel only wants to be alone because people were so unkind to him. Kinda reminds me of Quasimodo in that regard. Even though this song is about someone who wants to go out in the world despite what’s out there, I do think Muriel longs for a normal life. If only he could have one.

LOVE SONG Something There That Wasn’t There Before: He starts off angry, and cold towards the Mc. Eventually, he starts to open up to them though. He treats them with a new gentleness that wasn’t there before.

FAVORITE SONG Bells of Notre Dame: He relates to this one. Who is the monster and who is the man? Just because he was the scourge doesn’t make him the monster. The people who cheered for blood, they were the monsters.

Honorable Mention: Two Worlds One Family (Tarzan): It’s a soft song, an honest song that describes raw emotions and untouched paradise. Those things just seem like something that Muriel would hold close in his heart. Also, I think it’s likely that Muriel wonders who his family was.

THEME SONG Try Everything: Portia is a fun loving, let's stay up late and explore kinda girl. This song suits her because she is playful and fun. Plus it’s a new song and she is young and fresh and hip and oh god I just love her. I want to marry Julian just so she can be my sister in law. ;P

LOVE SONG Love is An Open Door: It’s cute and playful, like Portia. But deeper than that Julian is kinda like her Elsa. She has spent most of her life separate from him so when she is able to experience a new kind of love, someone who won't leave her, it must be like an open door.

Every Body Wants to Be a Cat: Okay so I stole this from @marsalaandthearcana but it’s spot on. You know she’s just swinging her hips to this song while dusting around the palace or collecting fruits at the marketplace. She’s probably bouncing her kitten in her lap as she sings it.


KARAOKE SONG I’ll Make A Man Out Of You: You know she sings this to Julian. He’ll be worried about something, wanting to run away and she’s just like “Be a man” And maybe at the Raven she climbs up on stage, finds her brother in the audience, looks him directly in the eye and belts this song. 



NON-DISNEY SONG This is Not My Idea of Fun: She’s just a such a multi-tasker that picturing her to this song is a blast. At first, she’s complaining about games Julian wants to play. Then she’s complaining about tasks Lucio gives her, then she’s smugly bossing her brother around by the ear, satisfied with her own game “This is my idea of fun.”

THEME SONG The Court Of Miracles: Originally I put Hell Fire, then I got to thinking Lucio is always interpreted as such an evil guy, if he is eventually romanceable there has got to be more to him. I chose this song for the eerie tone and dark humor. “So you won’t be around to reveal what you found.” Maybe that’s why people in the palace go missing down that hallway. Spooky…

LOVE SONG Be Prepared Reprise: There is a deleted scene from the lion king where Scar tries to seduce Nalla into being his queen. The idea behind the scene is that he is kind of lonely, and has no social skill. My headcanon for Lucio.

Trashing The Camp: This is probably the noisiest and obnoxious song the Disney universe has to offer. That being said it’s great. You can’t not have a good time listening to a bunch of apes banging on old-fashioned merchandise. Lucio would just kinda sing this song to himself without really thinking about it. It would get on Nadia’s nerves. It also contrasts nicely for Nadia’s choice of Come stop your Crying. I think that comparison might be symbolic of they thought they would work but ultimately didn’t.


KARAOKE SONG Friend Like Me: Because of his lack of social skill I think Lucio thinks that he is a great friend. I think Lucio knows that people don’t like him but he pretends not to care. I could see him singing this song while doing sword flourishes as a human, or creepy ghost goat things like breathing fire, or juggling his head.



NON DISNEY SONG Sorry, Changed my mind again. It’s tough to be a God reflects his arrogance, but I think Good Old Bad Days from Quest for Camelot Reflects his essence. It’s kind of a song…it has music…he kinda sings…there is even a part where he just walks around awkwardly humming…sounds like Lucio to me. The lyrics can easily be switched out using Plague instead of Plan and Asra instead of Arthur. I’m sure more can be done to it as well. Makes a good turning to a goat song.
