Satte Preiserhöhnung bei Google Worksapce. Ab Februar 2024 wird's teuer!
Für einige Workspace Kunden hatte Google bereits im April 2023 die Preise erhöht. Andere bekommen nun die Preiserhöhung im kommenden Jahr zu spühren. Was ist aber Google Workspace? Woran unterscheiden sich die Tarife und was will Google damit bezwecken? Aber vor allem stellt sich uns die Frage, ob der neue Preis den Leistungen angemessen ist.
Was ist Google Workspace?
Wir alle kennen die zumindest aktuell noch kostenlosen GMail Konten für Jedermann/frau. Diese beinhalten einige Anwendungen, wie bspw. Sheets, Presentation, den Kalender, natürlich EMail und so weiter. Das richtet sich in erster Linie an Millionen privater Nutzer. Für Geschäftskunden oder Organisationen gibt es dagegen Workspace. Das ermöglicht vor allem mehrere Nutzer unter einer eigenen Domain, an Stelle von @gmail.com zu verwalten, bei der jeder Nutzer eine eigene EMail Adresse mit der eigenen Domainendung erhalten kann. Es lassen sich aber auch der Zugriff auf bestimmet weitere Apps steuern oder auch Computersysteme und Chromebooks verwalten. Während früher im Bezug auf die Anwendungen kaum ein Unterschied zu bemerken war, zwischen einem herkömmlichen GMail Konto und einem Workspace Konto, so ist dies heute anders. Workspace bietet ein paar Dinge mehr und besser.
Welche Tarife gibt es?
Es gibt im Wesentlichen vier Versionen mit etwas unterschiedlichem Leistungsumfang und Preis. Zudem unterscheidet Google hier noch zwischen dem Flexiblen Plan mit monatlicher Zahlungsweise und dem Plan mit jährlicher Zahlungsweise. Es gibt aber auch noch Sonderlocken bspw. für Bildungseinrichtungen oder gemeinnützige Organisationen. Hier weicht der Preis entsprechend ab, aber ggf. auch der Leistungsumfang. Grundsätzlich ist der Einstiegstarif der Business Starter. Der kostet aktuell rund $6.00, künftig $7.20 USD im flexiblen Tarif. Beim Jahrestarif bleibt es bei $6.00 USD. Nächste Stufe ist der Tarif Business Standard mit derzeit $12.00 und künftig $14.40 USD, im Jahrestarif bleibt der Preis auch hier bei $12.00 USD.
Der wohl beste und sicher auch sinnvollste Tarif ist aber der Business Plus Tarif. Warum? Ausschlaggebend für alle die ein besonders gutes Google Produkt nutzen wollen, welches da AppSheet ist. Bisher $18.00, ca. 15 Euro sind das zur Zeit. Hier schlägt Google auf $21.60 USD, rund 20 Euro auf. Auch dieser Preis gilt wie bei allen anderen immer pro Nutzer und Monat. Mit dem Jahresplan bleibt es bei $18.00 USD. Da fehlt noch ein Tarif? Ja, denn es gibt noch den Enterprise Tarif. Denn verhandeln große Unternehmen individuell mit Google. Der Tarif wird nur über Googles Direktvertrieb oder eine Partnervertriebsorganisation angeboten. Ist für Unternehmen bis 100 Mitarbeiter kaum zugänglich.
Zweck der Preiserhöhung?
Google selbst begründet die Preiserhöhung mit nun besseren Produkten, die im Laufe der letzten Monate massiv weiterentwickelt wurden. Hört sich dann ja logisch an, ist aber auch Augenwischerei. Zum einen hat Google vor allem an den Stellen weiterentwickelt, die gerade für die Enterprisekunden eher von Bedeutung sind. Viele Neuerungen sind für zahlreiche, ja wohl die Masse der Kunden kaum so relevant. Zudem musste Google an einigen Stellen etwas dringend tun, weil die Qualität nicht stimmte oder wichtige Funktionen fehlten. Gerade weil man Großkunden im Visir hat, die man zum Wechseln von Microsoft bewegen will.
Die Begründung von Google bzgl. vieler neuer Funktionen entlarvt Google ja selbst dadurch, dass sich beim Tarif mit jährlicher Abrechnung nichts verändert! Es könnte natürlich auch sein, das sich für Kunden mit dieser Zahlungsweise die Preise dann im Folgejahr erhöhn. Google hatte aber bereits im April 2023 Preise für den flexiblen Plan erhöht oder die Erhöhung angekündigt. Es liegt daher eher Nahe, dass Googles Strategie darauf abzielt von der monatlichen Zahlungsweise wegzukommen.
Wo sehe ich welchen Tarif ich derzeit habe?
Google informiert seine Kunden bzw. betroffene Kunden derzeit per EMail über die Preisänderungen. Unterscheidet dabei Workspace-Abos mit bis zu zehn Lizenzen und Abos mit mehr als 10 Nutzerlizenzen. Ferner hängt der Zeitpunkt der Preisänderung nicht nur vom Preismodell, sondern auch der jeweiligen Landeswährung ab.

Welches Modell bzw. Abo bzw. Tarif man nutzt und was man dafürr aktuell zahlt, können Abonnenten in der Adminkonsole nachschauen. Unter Abrechnung Abos sind alle relevanten Informationen zu finden. Für Business Plus Kunden wäre es grob überschlagen ein Aufschlag um rund 25%. Ein ziemlich satter Aufschlag.
Passt das noch?
Google hat nicht nur neue Funktionen entwickelt und Workspace für eine bestimmte Zielgruppa aufgebohrt. Gerrade bei Googles Videokonferenzdienst Meet ist dss auffällig. Schauen wir auf ein für Workspace sehr wesentlichen Punkt, hat Google hier Leistungen auch kurzerhand eingestellt. Thema Domains! Google hatte selbst die Registrierung und Verwaltung von Domains angeboten. Ohne eine individuelle Domain, wie bspw. "Firmennamen.de", kann Workspace garnicht eingerichtet werden. Dann hatte Google im Laufe des letzten Jahres das Thema eingestampft und ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste das ganze Engagement kurzer Hand an einen Domainhosting-Serviceanbieter abgetreten oder verkauft. Wer die Domain also bei Google in Betrieb genommen hatte, fand sich nun plötzlich auf der Kundenliste eines anderen Anbieters wieder.

Unterschiede in Standard Google Anwendungen werden immer deutlicher. So gibt es Unterschiede zwischen Google Sheets in der Workspace und der GMail Version. Das aber wird zunehmend zum Problem in der Zusammenarbeit mit Nutzern außerhalb der eigenen Organisation, wenn diese ein herkömmliches GMail Konto nutzen. Ferner erschwert sich Google zunehmend selbst die Entwicklung seiner Anwendungen und läuft in ein vergleichbares Desaster wie bei Android hinein.
Google scheint jedenfalls anzunehmen, dass die Produkte wohl möglich im Vergleich zum Hauptkonkurrenten nun so gut seien, eine Preisanpassung zu rechtfertigen. Hier müsste man nun nochmal genauer auf die Preisgestaltung von Microsoft im Vergleich schauen. Google ist scheinbar auch davon überzeugt beim Kunden oder potentiellen Kunden ein entsprechendes Ansehen zu genießen. Hier könnte Google aber einem Irrtum unterliegen. In der Wahrnehmung zählen für Nutzer noch weitere Faktoren weit über die eigentlichen Produkte und die Preisgestaltung hinaus.
Es geht dabei vorr allem um Vertrauen. Hier hat Google vergleichsweise seit langer Zeit schon einen eher schlechten Stand. Es geht dabei um Kontinuität und ein Schlagwort dabei ist der große Google Friedhof auf dem jedes Jahrr etliche Produkte zu Grabe getragen werden. Nicht weil diese schlecht sind, sondern weil es Google aus nicht immer ganz nachvollziehbaren Gründen so passt. Nicht selten sind es selbstverschuldete Probleme oder auch zu hohe Erwartungen an die eigene Leistungsfähigkeit. Aber genau das beweist letztlich nur Googles eigenes Versagen, welches man weiter antreibt. Google ist selbst an diesem Punkt der Master of Desaster.
Es konnte schon jetzt ein kritischer Punkt erreicht sein, ein Punkt andem sich einige und gerade kleinere Organisationen und Unternehmen abwenden werden. Ob der Preis für das was man da erhält im Einzelfall noch akzeptabel ist, fraglich! Am Ende muss das nun jede(r) für sich selbst entscheiden und an dieser Stelle das Ganze auf den Prüfstand stellen. Im Einzelfall kann ein anderes Google Produkt ja schon die ausreichende Lösung sein. Wenn Speicherplatz das wesentliche Kritärium darstellt, dann kann hier Google One und ganz normale GMail Konten ausreichen.
Google tut sich mit seiner Preisgestaltung insgesamt keinen Gefallen und hat scheinbar seine Kunden immer noch nicht verstanden. Die deutlich günstigeren Preise für bspw. gemeinnützige Organisationen finden allein im Standard Tarif Bussiness Starter statt. Hier ist AppSheet aber abgehängt und gerade AppSheet wird bei genauerer Betrachtung für diesen Kundentyp von großer Bedeutung sein. Schon jetzt sind es eigentlich zuviele Tarifvarianten. Google würde gut damit fahren nur einen einzigen Tarif anzubieten, der alle Leistungen enthält und der nach Anzahl der Nutzer oder Art der Organisation mit entsprechenden Rabatten belegt wäre.
Das wäre am Ende nicht nur für Kunden und Nutzer, sondern auch Google selbst viel einfacher und im Durchschnitt sicher auch profitabler. Am Schaden, den Google beim Vetrauen hat müsste man bei Google sowieso endlich einmal arbeiten und den Flohzirkus, welchen Google hier treibt beenden.
