Seriously, tho, aside from just the obvious mario parody, I find grouchio's sass and sarcasm funny. But I can understand that the base joke of the Mario bros mixer with the Marx Bros could get kinda old quick

Yeah, I'm absolutely giving my thumbs up to people who find them funny, they're just not for me. I do think Grouchio is the most entertaining of the bunch tho! It just makes me wish they'd been based on the Trotters instead - Grouchio & Chico already have that Del Boy & Rodney dynamic, the third guy doesn't do much anyway, and it'd make the Brit pop culture reference more direct. Plus you could've made them pigs But it's easy for me to sit here years later and say things like that. Hell, if StC had been a bit later, you couldn't had them be based on Jim & Anthony Royale - this kind of duo just works and appears a lot in British media. I'm just not a massive fan of the Mario/Marx bros flavour these guys had

the “marxio brothers” grouchio, chicio, and harpio... why are they here? who knows

I imagine Grouchio is the Mario jack of all stats equivalent, Chicio is the one with the fluttery jump and bad traction and Harpio has that horn (it can clear out all enemies at once on the screen) he has been seen with but jumps really badly. He is super OP in theory but was added late during development and can’t actually clear all stages due to his bad jumping (compare Lori from Jazz Jackrabbit).

As a Nintendo fan, I actually thought the Marxio brother were funny. I liked how Nigel Kitching was creative and had them parody the Marx Brothers. It helps the comic could've been a lot more vicious then that.

It helps better that the Marxios at least were able to get the dignity of moving on after Robotnik fell from power and even had a chance to go straight... as straight as someone like Grouchio Marxio is capable of. 

Still a bit of a potshot though, but that was kind of par the course for SEGA in those days.

Next we move back to Knuckles, who’s either unconscious or trying really hard to pretend to be, so that he doesn’t have to deal with the Marxio Bros anymore

They finally explain that they’re bringing tourists up from Mobius, which I guess makes the most sense. I can only assume that they don’t directly advertise these Floating Island package holidays as being run by Robotnik I’m also not sure why there’s some blank text boxes in this story. I know that later in StC, when they move onto reprints, a lot of the reprints would have their text boxes blanked out where they were no longer relevant, so maybe the version I’m using actually took this scan from a reprint?

Yep, Knuckles was faking it. And as the first batch of tourists arrive, he vows that there won’t be a Carnival Night Zone for them to step into

Average work day during the summer season tbh

Though I do almost have to admire how these guys are determined to act as if nothing’s wrong and usher the tourists into the theme park, even while being actively attacked by Knuckles. It must be the capitalist in them

Okay, Grouchio or whatever your name is, I’ll give you this one. That was some quick thinking. Y’know, looking at this part, I feel like I would’ve found these guys a lot more bearable if they’d instead been based on the Trotters from Only Fools and Horses. It would’ve fit the overtly British vibe a lot more as well. But can’t have everything, I suppose

You don’t say, random bear guy. Also, I’m gonna headcanon that this curly-haired biker bear and the duck guy in the suit are a couple

Well… sigh… looks like in the next issue, we’ll be joining Knuckles as he finds a way to destroy the park without hurting the tourists. I’ve given up on hoping the next part will be the last part. I can only assume this Marxio Bros story is still running to this day, decades after StC has been cancelled

Y'know, I knew when I posted this that the Marxio Bros would definitely have some fans out there. But they just don't do anything for me, I'm afraid. I wasn't interested in them reading the comic as a kid and that hasn't changed seeing them now. At least the art makes their mech look great?
