Album Cover Hall of Fame News Update and Link Summary for November, 2023
Here's the summary of everything I could find in the world about album cover art and the people that make it and promote it. Enjoy and please share with friends and family.
Posted sometime November 1, 2023 by Mike Goldstein, AlbumCoverHallofFame.com Hello to all – this month’s summary will be a brief one as I was out on a road trip most of the month and, therefore, have not been able to devote a lot of time to the gathering and sharing of album art/artist-related information. With that said, while I was gone, the work done by these talented individuals continued…

PROMPT #6: Halcyon
Tumblr media
It was a year into her self-imposed captivity that she found what awaited her in the dungeons of Gruenes Licht.
"Don't look away, -̴̠̘̎-̶̮̬̽̕-̴͙̀̕͜-̴̧̘͐͒-̶̘̰̒̈́-̴̩̏͛-̶̮̬̽̕-̴͙̀̕͜-̴̧̘͐͒-̶̘̰̒̈́-̴̩̏͛ͅ-," Tadric's ghost whispered. She could not fail to heed the command, for he stood at her back - caressing her wings with one hand, and gripping her jaw with the other. "Someone must bear witness to what has become of Voeburt's last scion."
Pauldia - what was left of her - had not noticed Lyhe Il's arrival, nor that of the ghost that haunted them both. She reached out to the dripping walls with a trembling claw and dead eyes, where she inscribed a corrupted glyph in her own blood over the top of several others. Worst of all, she murmured to herself in a voice so like the one Lyhe Il had known, her words albeit indistinguishable.
"Would you have taken her place?" Tadric asked.
The question had been echoing through her head and her soul from the moment she'd broken the dungeons' lock. Had she but known that her sacrifice would doom her liege's sister, her own erstwhile friend-
Tadric used some magick or another to send a jolt of static down her spine. Pauldia's own batlike wings twitched.
Still reeling from the shock, Lyhe Il demanded, "Leave us."
She had not expected Tadric to do precisely that, and felt an immense wave of anxiety when he did: he had not once left her to her own devices unless it suited his own indeterminate whims. When all traces of him had vanished, she smoothed out her dusty skirts and knelt at the bars of Pauldia's cell.
"Pia," she said, as gently as she could. "I'm here, Pia. Can you hear me?"
The beast did not respond. Lyhe Il made to reach for her, but Pauldia did not stir at her touch; her hand simply passed through the great, stinking mass of fur.
"Do you remember me?" The question struck her as vain the moment it left her; there were no signs that the beast remembered the name that had been hers in her own life. Neither would Lyhe Il speak aloud the name Pauldia had once known for her. "Or at least, do you remember Voeburt as it was? The rivers breaking their banks in spring, the endless fields of flowers in summer - and in autumn, the richest, ripest fruits one could ever dream of tasting."
"Gone," Pauldia muttered, though the word came out muffled through her snout. "All gone."
"I know. I'm sorry." This, too, was a vanity: the notion that she alone might have saved her kingdom, saved the world. But she had not spoken to anyone in so long, not even her dancing, dreaming friend making their way through the marble halls above. "I couldn't stop it. I could only-"
Pauldia loosed a sudden roar, enough for Lyhe Il to jump back.
"I cannot give you the peace you deserve," she said. "Will you resent me, if I aid you nonetheless?"
When Pauldia gave no further reply, she laid her hand upon the giant padlock that rendered the princess' prison complete. It rattled but did not give, and Pauldia's ears pricked up like a wolf catching a scent.
Lyhe Il breathed in and drew a variation of the sigil Pauldia herself had attempted. The lock shattered beneath the force of the spell.
Still Pauldia did not move, even as the cell door swung wide enough for her considerable bulk.
A screech of laughter from the palace above drew Lyhe Il from whatever contemplation or reverie she might otherwise have fallen into.
"Goodbye, Pia," Lyhe Il whispered, and once more made her retreat to her tower.

The castle known as Lyhe Ghiah used to be known as Gruenes Licht during Voeburt's rule. During the Flood, it was known as bastion against the sin eaters. Nowadays, the Fuath store treasures in its many halls.

10 Most Overlooked Women in Architecture: Norma Merrick Sklarek
Editor's Note: To celebrate Women's History Month, we're reposting a one of the articles in our series from 2015: "10 Most Overlooked Women in Architecture."
In 2013 ArchDaily ran a post on the 10 Most Overlooked Women in Architecture History. This post is the ninth in a series of mini-tributes to each of these architects. Read the previous post on Anne Tyng.
"Architecture should be working on improving the environment of people in their homes, in their places of work, and their places of recreation. It should be functional and pleasant, not just in the image of the ego of the architect." --Norma Sklarek
Norma Merrick Sklarek was born in 1928 in Harlem, New York City to West Indian immigrants. Norma's father was a doctor.1 She studied at Barnard College and "Columbia University's School of Architecture, an accomplishment all on its own considering that Columbia only accepted a handful of women each year"(1) during that time.
In 1950, after graduation, Sklarek could not find employment in an architecture firm and worked for the City of New York. She was not satisfied with her civil servant job, as she wanted to find work as an architect. She was eventually hired in 1955 by Skidmore, Owens and Merrill (SOM). (2) She worked for SOM for four years, then headed west to join Gruen Associates in Los Angeles, California.1
Her accomplishments in the field of architecture are so impressive it may be best to list them all:
First African-American woman to be licensed as an architect in New York (1954) and in California (1962) (2)2
First African-American woman director of architecture at Gruen Associates in Los Angeles1
In 1959, the first African-American woman to become a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) (2)
In 1980, the first woman to be elected a Fellow of the AIA (2)
In 1985, the first African-American woman architect to form her own architectural firm: Siegel, Sklarek, Diamond (1)
In 2008 Sklarek was honored with the Whitney Young Jr. Award at the AIA National Convention in Boston (2)
Ms. Sklarek's best known works include:"City Hall in San Bernardino, California, the Fox Plaza in San Francisco, Terminal One at the Los Angeles International Airport and the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo."3 She also taught graduate architecture courses at"UCLA, Columbia and Arizona State University"(1).
At the time of Sklarek's death in 2012, 10,000 of the 250,000 professional architects in the United States are African-American. (1 )Through her actions and her work, Sklarek  was a role model and mentor to aspiring African-American and women architects alike.

Album Cover Hall of Fame's News Update and Link Summary for October, 2022
Here's my latest summary of all of the album cover art and artist-related news that I could gather - take a look and share with your friends. THANKS
Posted October 1, 2022 by Mike Goldstein, AlbumCoverHallofFame.com Greeting to you all. I have to first warn you that this month’s edition of the ACHOF newsletter will be a truncated one as I’ve had to spend a lot of time and energy managing several things that have popped up and couldn’t be ignored. It will also force me to put off the publishing of the next summary until December 1st. Sorry…

###
About Alewife Brewing Alewife Brewing is a small batch brewery located in the heart of the Sunnyside section of Queens, NY. We focus on brewing traditional and innovative styles of beer, using only the finest ingredients. Our goal is to provide a unique and enjoyable drinking experience for all who visit our taproom.
Alewife Brewing has fallen in love with the stories of ancient times and the roles women had in society. The peace they emulated through their beliefs and love towards nature and all species has inspired us to capture their magic in our beers and on our 16 oz. can labels. The latest historical findings suggest that wine was not the oldest elixir, but in fact, beer mixed with psychedelic substances used in shamanistic ceremonies dating back much further. Gathered and formulated, the Alewives were the makers of both spiritual and medicinal potions.
Through our journeys thus far in life, we’ve developed a deep love for ancient elixirs while brewing and traveling to learn ancient and modern techniques for exceptional beers brewed at our new home in Sunnyside, Queens.
Don't worry, it's just beer we make, no special additions!
