The focus on the nuclear family in Warrior Cats is so annoying given that their society seems to value communal raising of children. You mentioned the existence of permaqueens, which seem to be ignored and looked down on. It wasn’t just Sparkpelt who is criticized for having other queen’s support, I believe there was a moment with Squirrelflight in PO3 where it mentioned that she still did her warrior duties like it was a bad thing?? Anyway, the mentor-apprentice system also encourages the communal raising of older children. It seems that the cat apprentices are closest to (beyond their fellow apprentices) are their mentors. Mentors spend the most time with them and their values are shaped by them. There shouldn’t be that much of a focus on the nuclear family in the Clans lmao.

oh yeah it's absolutely ridiculous. mentor/apprentice relationships tend to be sorta downplayed after apprenticeship too (at least after the first arc), like they're reflected on but not to the extent where you really feel like the characters are deeply important to one another after the warrior ceremony. the familial ones are often stressed more.

the clans are painted as this utopia where everyone helps one another out but also you need to adhere to human societal standards for some reason and no one gets to do what they really want and its all controlled and if you need help for anything ever then you're actually a stupid pussy and we hate you.

it really speaks more to the erins' lack of an imagination tbh that they cannot imagine a world where the nuclear family isn't really a thing
