How To Dress Like A Shoujo Girl
since spring is here i thought i’d do a little guide on outfit inspo for shoujo girl spring. this may be a little long and i plan on (if this does ok) making this a series on my blog 🫶🏻
this post will be split into sections based on top half, bottom half, dresses and accessories, i hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Top Half
in terms of tops you want to look for items that have a lot of frill, floral and lace details. Blouses, vests and camis are a must, as these items have a romantic feel to them. Cardigans and knitwear are also a good add on for layering as they have a warm and cozy feeling to them while being both cute and practical. Tops with collar details are also a good idea as they recreate the preppiness of many shoujos.
Here are a couple pieces i think really fit the vibe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bottom Half
On your bottom half i would recommend mostly wearing skirts, but i will be giving options for jeans and shorts. Layered/ruffled skirts should become a key item of your outfit, whether that is maxi or mini and once again stick with floral patterns, lace or frills. If you want to wear shorts or jeans i would recommend going for something with details on them, either ruffled shorts or jeans with embellishments. A dress/long top layered over the jeans would be very adorable too!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dresses
For dresses i will keep this part pretty short as a lot of the details are things I've brought up already. In terms of dress style i would recommend a lot of cutesy sundresses, babydoll dresses and maxi dresses, as long as its cute and flowy it will work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Accessories
For accessories you can add as many or as little as you feel. I think the things you see most are bows, pearls and flowers but anything cutesy works. Bags are also a key thing with most shoujo girls either having a mini backpack or a small handbag, once again though whatever you feel works best for you. Leg warmers are also something i would recommend, as they are a simple way of elevating any outfit to become more cutesy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some places i would recommend buying from if you're into this style is Peiliee Shop, Vinted, Urban Outfitters or H&M. The best places to get inspiration for this style are Pinterest, your fav anime girls and fruits magazine.
if anyone has any questions or anything they want to add feel free to comment below.
See you soon! - mimi °ʚ(*´꒳`*)ɞ°

BOOK SPOTLIGHT: HOW TO DRESS LIKE A TUDOR I am pleased to spotlight the book How to Dress Like a Tudor by Judith Arnopp in The Coffee Pot Book Club Blog Tour held between December 4th - 6th, 2023. How to Dress Like a Tudor is a Historical Non-Fiction published by Pen and Sword Books on September 2023 (224 pages). Below are highlights of How to Dress Like a Tudor and Judith Arnopp's author bio. Tour Schedule Page: https://thecoffeepotbookclub.blogspot.com/2023/11/blog-tour-how-to-dress-like-a-tudor-by-judith-arnopp.html HIGHLIGHTS: HOW TO DRESS LIKE A TUDOR   How to Dress Like a Tudor By Judith Arnopp Blurb: Have you ever hankered to dress like a Tudor lord or lady, or perhaps you prefer the status of goodwife, or costermonger, or even a bawd? For beginner historical reenactors, the path to authenticity can be bewildering and sometimes intimidating. Judith Arnopp uses her own experience, both as a historian and a medieval/Tudor lady, to make your own journey a little easier. The author traces the transition of fashion from the relatively subtle styles popular at the court of Henry VII, through the carefully constructed royal grandeur of Henry VIII, Edward VI, and Mary I to the pinnacle of majesty and splendid iconography of Elizabeth I. In contrast to the magnificence of court come the ordinary folk who, subject to sumptuary laws and regulations, wore garments of a simpler cut and cloth – a strata of society that formed the back bone of Tudor England. This brief history of 16th century fashion examines clothing for both rich and poor, adult and child, and offers tips and tricks on how to begin to sew your first historically inspired garment, this book is aimed at helping the beginner learn How to Dress like a Tudor. Buy Link: Universal Buy Link: mybook.to/howtodress   AUTHOR BIO: JUDTIH ARNOPP   Judith writes historical fiction set during the late medieval and Tudor period. Her usual focus is on the women who lived close to the monarch, women like Margaret Beaufort, Elizabeth of York and Mary Tudor but more recently has been writing from the perspective of Henry VIII himself. Her books are on Kindle, Audible and Paperback. You can find her fiction books here: http://author.to/juditharnoppbooks She also writes non-fiction, her work featuring in many anthologies and online magazines. Her latest non-fiction, How to Dress like a Tudor published by Pen & Sword Books is available now. Judith is a founder member of a reenactment group The Fyne Company of Cambria, and began making Tudor costumes for herself, her husband, John, and other members of the group. It was this that inspired How to Dress like a Tudor and she hopes to write more non-fiction Tudor history in the future. FUCK OFF SHAPEWEAR I'm sorry for the swearing, but who here loves to wear shapewear? Not me. It's restricting and it's ugly and no woman should feel they should wear such god awful things. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for shaping jeans, smoothing undies and clothes that flatter. But the suck you in so tight you can't breathe shape wear - no thank you! I'm a mum and ever since having kids, my tummy has been giving me jip - yes I could probably do more planks and sit ups - but I don't want to, but I do want to go about my daily business not worrying about the tummy bulge that seems to be growing year by year!!! I would like to put in a big disclaimer here - by absolutely no means am I saying we all HAVE to disguise our tummies and aren't mum tums bloody awful. NO! I'm not saying that. But for those of you who, like me are a little bit conscious of their belly and want a few tips on how to dress to best flatter that area of your body - then this post is for you. What I love about wearing things like longer length blouses, peplum tops and blazers is that I then am a bit happier wearing trousers / skirts etc that perhaps wouldn't show my tummy in it's best light. So for example a satin skirt worn with a longer length wrap top or chunky jumper. Or skinny jeans worn with an A-line mini dress or long crisp white shirt. Or cigarette trousers worn with a long vest and blazer. It's all about wearing that one piece that helps give you a bit of confidence. Now, back to shaperwear - who owns any of the wretched things? 2019 Trend Forecast
Tie-dye
Tie-dye has had a change and is now modernised.  Dior has created kaleidoscope versions of tie-dye as well as sometimes layering tie-dye over florals; whereas Prada went for a flouro approach, which reflects a liberated modern woman.  On the other hand, Stella McCartney’s take on the tie-dye came in various different versions in a more 70s hippie perspective with blue and white boiler suits, shirts and lace tap shorts.
Matching sets
Mansur Gavriel and Tory Burch proved that matching clothes is going to be a big hit as it will make matching so much easier - all you have to do is match your bag to your dress and then match it to your shoes.  With monochromatic designs as well as matching patterns, next season’s latest set of goods will be very easy to pair together to create an extremely sophisticated put together look.
Marigold
The spring/ summer collections from Carolina Herrera, Pyer Moss, Oscar de la Renta and Brandon Maxwell has presented a colour that will be unforgettable next year.  The saturated, sunny colour has brightened up runways and can be called 2019’s It-colour.
Neon
Along with the colour marigold, other eye-catching colours have been shown on runways as well.  Neon bright items are all over the runway with outfits from Jeremy Scott, Prabal Gurung and Naeem Khan, in numerous shades, which Elle has compared to being alike to a set of highlighters and Vogue themed as ‘California Dreaming.’
Trench coats
Although this isn’t a new item, it is a trend and it has gotten an update at Burberry, where there were many new variations on the classic coat.  At Givenchy and Valentino, the classic coat also made an appearance on the runway.
Ruffles
Ruffles dominated last summer and will extend onto 2019.  Simone Rocha's take on ruffles felt off-kilter and YSL’s take had a 1980s Prince appeal whereas Marc Jacobs designed his with dramatic flourishes and feathers.
Beige
Although other trends included bright neon colours, beige and contemporary neutrals also made an appearance on runways and will be a trend next year.  Riccardo Tisci gave burberry the classic-trench-coat colour, and the neutral was also present in the collections of Max Mara and even Balmain.  The trend is to dress head-to-toe in neutrals and beige for a sleek look.

How To Instantly Dress Better
Our sense of fashion is usually the first thing that people notice about us. Our clothing is a way for us to express ourselves, it’s how we let the world know that we exist! Although the industry has become heavily saturated with “hypebeast” it is still quite easy to be not only fashionable but do so with the clothes that you already have.
Be Bold or Go Home: Attitude
Confidence is key. No matter how much you spend on an outfit, it’s only as good as the person wearing it. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what’s trending or what everyone else is wearing. It doesn’t even matter if your entire outfit was thrifted. What matters is that you’re comfortable in what you wear, and what you wear is an accurate reflection of who you are. When you’re comfortable and wear your fit with pride it shows. Have you ever seen someone wearing something and thought to yourself, “that’s not their style.” Well its probably because they lacked the confidence to pull it off. So, remember, wear it with pride, because confidence is key.
Be Yourself
Open your closet and watch the possibilities unfold. Don’t think about whether what you have that is “trendy” or not, instead ask yourself, “how do I feel?” and “what do I feel comfortable in?” It’s nice to know what fashion trends are “in” but they're not something to get enslaved to. You don’t have to follow the trends to be fashionable. In fact, those who break the trend are usually the ones who set them! It’s your life and your body so wear what makes you happy, regardless of what other’s will think.
Plan It Out: Coordinate Your Outfits
Even though you might wake up the next day and not like what you picked out last night, preparation is key. Make a list of your favorite outfits and accessories. Turn on your favorite playlist and spend an hour playing with different color combinations. Your favorite pair of blue jeans with that bright orange top, or your baggy sweatpants with that ripped tee. Layering can also add another layer to your outfit. Wear two shirts with different lengths, like a long sleeve and a short sleeve, or even two tops with different necklines. Play with different shades of the same color, if done right you can create a very interesting effect to give life to an otherwise monotonous outfit. Then once you find “the fit” why not snap a quick picture in it and save it to your phone. That way even you decide not to wear it tomorrow, you’ll have the outfit stored for later.
Accessories Matter
Accessories can change the entire appearance of an outfit. A basic tee can go from “Bleh” to “Where’d you get that” in five seconds if you accessorize it correctly. Biker chains can be worn as jean accessories or as chains. In fact, one of my favorite chains is a biker chain. Experiment with different jewelry as well. A bracelet can add a splash of color to a monotone outfit or match your top, to give it that extra pop. Try necklaces of different lengths or dangling earrings. Just do what you’re comfortable with and go from there. For some, less is better, but it all comes down to what are comfortable wearing.
New Doesn’t Mean Better
Contrary to popular belief, that Instagram worthy outfit, doesn’t have to break the bank. With the exception of the accessories, the outfit to the right was completely thrifted, so check out your local thrift store. The Salvation Army and Goodwill are excellent places to find second-hand clothing, and the best part: IT'S CHEAP!
In Case You Missed It
Our clothing is a way for us to express ourselves, but you don’t have to spend a ton of money to be fashionable. Confidence is key, so wear what you wear with pride. Be yourself, don’t try to fit in, just wear clothes that your comfortable in. Take out time to plan your outfits, from the baggy tees to the accessories, you’ll instantly become more fashionable.

Midwinter Pickup!
You made it through January! Pat yourself on the back, this is no small feat. Surviving the post-holiday, end-of-year let down, combined with chilly temps less you were on a beach, makes for a very difficult month. Couple these conditions with the expectations of having your resolutions established and uggghhhh.
Too. Much.
But it's February now! Let go of those January pokey jabs and brighten up your outlook. For obvious reasons surrounding the holiday of love, we see plenty of color pops in the warm hue varieties as we lead into Spring. We love to pair the love colors with bold blacks, plenty of textures and layers of course, because... always cold.
Dresses are here for you now - be not afraid! Trousers are still enjoying their moment, so don't forget to create a system with mix and match separates. I'm packing, it seems, every week lately, and utilizing a color palette for travel is my secret sauce!
February winners shown here:
❤️ Cora Dress in Black Velvet, as well as in color Dark Orchid in beautiful 100% Japanese Cupro. Drapes like a dream, flattering and comfortable.
❤️ Eliot Dress in stretch cotton, shown here in color Shadow. This is the more versatile of little black dresses -- day to night, pairs amazing with blazers, tights, heels, tennies, boots, really cannot go wrong. We've also created a mix and match set in this same stretch cotton solid with the Lotte Skirt and Como Shell. These are a dream for packing to create endless outfit pairings since they mix well with so many other pieces from our collection.
❤️ Londyn Dress in Black Plaid. Pro Level resume portfolio wedding guest, black tie statement dress. We can't get enough of this beautiful Italian fabric: the subtle pattern and texture are show-stoppers. The Emerson Jumpsuit is made with this gem of a fabric as well, and there are a handful left in our inventory so make haste!
❤️ Alyster Blouse in color Blush, in 100% Turkish Lyocell. Bathe yourself in soft sexy sustainability -- this sueded fabric is the perfect compliment to an effortless blouse that can be worn in a multitude of methods. Tied in a knot, worn open, French-tucked, it's really a good one!
❤️ Avery Skirt in color Blush. Not familiar with the the midi-length? Well, lemme say it was a new venture for me, too. Loving this skirt in the winter with tall boots and alllll the sweaters; also packed it for the Mexico vaca with allll the tanks. Which brings me to the Isla Cami -- well, this is worn with every little thing. From suiting sets to skirts to denim.
❤️ Rome Jacket in Italian Wool, in color Spice. That's right, it is spicy warm. Fully-lined, this is a soft wool blend, not itchy. It's perfectly warm without the bulk. We wear it year-round.
Alright, Galentines. Go shopping and reset your month!
