We recently compiled one of the biggest lists of best HTML tutorials. This list can be overwhelming for beginners. Therefore we wanted to handpick the top HTML resources for beginners.  HyperText Markup Language or HTML is mainly used in making websites look fabulous. In fact, it is not a stretch to say that it is one of the building blocks of the World Wide Web itself. If you were to describe its most important characteristics, then they can encompass the following: It helps create web pages. It works with various kinds of HTML elements.  It works with text, audio, video, images and so on.  Along with CSS and JavaScript, it can be used to create any kind of website.  Learning HTML is a rather interesting exercise and there are many ways in which you can start your journey to HTML expertise. Here is taking a look at the 5 best HTML tutorials for beginners. Code School As an online educational website, Code School has made learning rather creative and entertaining by taking a novel approach – every course is delivered like a story. Combine this with video, challenges, and gaming and you know you have a good thing going. For a beginner, technical jargon can be the most frustrating to deal with and Code School has taken that out of the equation when it comes to delivering courses on: Ruby Python PHP HTML of course.  Getting started with HTML will see you getting familiar with how you can use HTML to not only build websites but also to make them stylish. It also promises to teach you the latest versions of HTML which can go a long way in promoting your career as a web developer. And the best part is that once you have mastered these basic tenets, you can go on to their intermediate and advanced courses as well. Considering that user experience is the main aim of using HTML, you can certainly master this design process rather easily with Code School. iLoveCoding They call themselves a coding boot camp and believe in giving you courses that are: Effective and simple.  Value for your money. Self-paced.  Short duration – you can learn HTML and CSS in just 14 days.  Armed with this kind of knowledge and skill set, you can create a website in line with modern design trends. You can also go from learning the fundamentals of HTML to the most advanced levels as well. It is also useful that iLoveCoding believes in shoring up their lessons with simple to understand videos. So words like Attributes, Values and Tags – think of them as the ABCs of HTML – become familiar territory in no time at all.  All you need to do is sit down in front of the laptop, watch the videos and learn as you go. The advantage is that you get to revisit a lesson any time you want. As you go along, you mark a lesson as completed and you get to see your progress on the path to HTML mastery. Basic Markup, textual and layout tags and other elements of HTML – everything gets covered in this course. Mozilla Developer Network or MDN Web technologies galore – that’s what sets MDN apart. This network covers: Web standards of which HTML is one.  Firefox add-ons. Web app development.  Web extensions. APIs and so on.  One of the salient features of learning HTML with MDN is the fact that there are articles and tutorials aplenty. Simply visit their HTML learning area and get a grip on various things.  There is also a well-stocked article library that will help you understand all HTML Basics and elements. With easy examples and illustrations of HTML in use, it really does make it easy to understand the anatomy of this markup language and see what is an opening tag, a closing tag, content, element and so on. As you move along, you will get to see more such as nesting elements, attributes, empty elements and so on. MDN also will take you through images and the different elements that come into play when embedding images or developing a website for visually impaired people. Whether it is headings, paragraphs, text or links, you can learn how to integrate every facet into a website.
Codecademy When you read up on this company, the first thing that will strike you is that they call themselves an education company. But they focus on the web as a tool of education. Here again, CSS and HTML go hand in hand and you can learn how to add layers of structure and character to your websites by learning all about HTML. Among other things, their syllabus covers: All the fundamentals of HTML.  Interactive lessons. Tutorials on how to create a webpage on your computer and view the same as well.  You will also get to know all HTML elements and participate in some very interesting quizzes too. One of the keystones of this online tutorial is the interactive lessons. It can go a long way in teaching people about HTML especially when they have absolutely no idea of it all. And if you want to have more experience with HTML you can always opt for their paid courses as well. W3Schools This site is very controversial and not liked by many people for various reasons in past. However, this is the site that will always pop up on Google search results. Mainly since it solves some very basic problems with simple examples.  This site is the brainchild of a software development company. Since the tutorial is aimed at a beginner, W3Schools offers simple illustrations and explanations to get the lessons across. There are many examples to choose from and you get to use an online editor to try out all that you learn.  The big advantage of this type of Try It Yourself learning is that you can check out what works and then implement it in the project or website that you want to create. Executing computer code is one of the tough parts of learning HTML and when you get the opportunity to try it beforehand, then it really does make things a lot easier. With a combination of tutorials, lessons, quizzes, and exercises, a beginner can really gain a lot of confidence every step of the way. Testing newfound skills at HTML can also be the perfect way to course correct and opt for the more advanced levels at a later point in time. Comprehensive Guide to Web Designing Courses for Beginners
Web design is a crucial aspect of the digital world, making websites user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing, and functional. If you’re looking to venture into this field, enrolling in a web designing course is a great starting point. In this article, we will explore the benefits, skills, and course options that can help you become a successful web designer.
Why Choose a Web Designing Course?
A web designing course is the most efficient way to gain hands-on skills in designing visually appealing websites. It provides a structured learning path to understand essential design principles, coding, and tools used in the industry. Here are some key reasons to choose a web designing course:
1. Learn the Fundamentals of Web Design
A well-structured web designing course introduces you to the core elements of web design. You will learn about color theory, typography, layout principles, and user experience (UX) design, which are fundamental to creating effective websites.
2. Master Popular Design Tools and Technologies
In a web designing course, you will learn how to use industry-standard tools like Adobe Photoshop, Sketch, and Figma. Additionally, you’ll gain expertise in coding languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, which are essential for web design.

Web design is a fast-evolving field, and a good course will help you stay updated with the latest trends, responsive design techniques, and web technologies.
Key Skills Taught in Web Designing Courses
1. HTML and CSS
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) are the building blocks of web design. A web designing course will teach you how to structure content with HTML and style it using CSS. Mastery of these two languages is essential for web design and development.

Review: Sands of Iwo Jima (1949)
Sands of Iwo Jima (1949)

Score: 4 out of 5
In the canon of Movies That You Watch With Your Dad, Sands of Iwo Jima is one of the big ones, referenced as such by everything from King of the Hill to NCIS. That's how I wound up watching it, the first John Wayne movie I've reviewed (though not the first one I've seen; I watched Rio Bravo a long time ago). Last weekend, I went over to my father and his girlfriend's house for lunch, hooked up his old combination VCR/DVD player to their television so they could watch his old movies (it needed an RCA-to-HDMI adapter), used his VHS tape of this film (the colorized version from the '80s, specifically) to see if it worked, and ultimately sat down and watched it with them. It's enjoyed this reputation for a very long time, too, as many of the fathers who shared this movie with their sons first saw it themselves with their own fathers, who were probably around when it first premiered 75 years ago and may have seen it in theaters with their own fathers. And given the themes of this movie, revolving as they do around an authority figure whose stern discipline of the men under his command is ultimately vindicated, I can definitely see the appeal this movie has for dads, even those who aren't veterans, though its unvarnished love for the United States military (the Marine Corps especially) has also undoubtedly boosted its reputation there. What's more, while it's very much a movie of its time, it's also a very well-made war movie with two standout battle sequences and a lot of interesting character moments in between that help set up the drama in those battles, anchored by a great performance by the legendary Wayne in the kind of role that defined his image and got him his first Oscar nomination. It's still a classic, and one I can see enduring for another 75 years among both fathers and the US military.
John Wayne is Marine Sergeant John Stryker, a man with a name out of an action movie, video game, or comic book from the '80s or '90s and a backstory to match (or at least about as much as one could get away with under the Hays Code). He's a harsh commander of the squad he leads, and also a man with personal demons, an alcoholic whose wife left him and took their son and who seems to be taking out some of his issues on his men. Needless to say, his fellow Marines hate him and see him as a tyrant of a squad leader, feelings that Stryker reciprocates as he comes to see the Marines he's in charge of as a green, undisciplined rabble fresh out of boot camp who are dangerously unprepared for battle. It's not much of a surprise to say that, when these Marines face their first actual combat in the Battle of Tarawa, they very quickly realize that Stryker wasn't just a cruel, heartless bastard, but was actually trying to prepare them for the harsh reality of warfare. At Tarawa, the battle-hardened Stryker comes off as the only man in the squad who was actually ready for combat, while the men under his command make constant errors in judgment that get some of them killed or badly wounded, forcing them to shape up after the battle while on leave in Honolulu before they're shipped back into the meat grinder of the Pacific War, specifically to the famed battle in the title.
For all his public image and reputation as the paragon of mid-century rugged, stoic, conservative masculinity, from both fans of his who celebrate that image and people who are deeply critical of what it stood for then and now (and a reputation that he himself cultivated in his lifetime), Wayne's actual performances had depths beyond that, and this film, despite playing a key role in building that image, was no exception. He may not have had the most range, but he knew where his limits and strengths were as an actor, which allowed him to make the most of his image and occasionally play around with it. Here, Stryker comes across as a man who, the more we learn about him, seems like he threw himself into soldiering as a way out of a broken personal life, coming to see the men he commands on the battlefield as his surrogate family after his wife left him. He is ultimately the good guy trying to do right by his fellow Marines, as evidenced at Tarawa when they have to learn the lessons he tried to teach them the hard way, but he is a flawed leader who, before Tarawa, did little to earn the respect of those men, his alcoholism in particular having gotten him demoted recently and causing him to wind up blackout drunk while on leave in New Zealand, an affair that causes his men to see him as a hypocrite. In this, the comparisons between Stryker as a "father to his men" and a literal dad, especially the idealized patriarchs of the postwar era, become unavoidable. Stryker may know best, but he has to soften up and come to terms with some of his own vulnerabilities if he wants to earn the trust of his men, and not risk another situation like the one at Tarawa where he saw that everything he tried to teach them went in one ear and out the other. He's a hardass with a heart of gold, a more idealized version of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket whose "tough love" approach does in fact make his men into better Marines in the end but could probably stand to tone it down a bit, if for no other reason than to more effectively teach his men.
As an action film, it's clearly a movie of its time. A ton of unironic postwar 'Merica drips from nearly every frame, which can feel hokey watching it today but is still admittedly enjoyable in its own way, with me being of the opinion that the best propaganda is the kind that is proud and unashamed of the things it is standing for. A message delivered with conviction, as this film does, is a lot more persuasive than that same message delivered halfheartedly. Something that feels a bit more dated nowadays, though, comes in the effects department with the use of archival World War II footage for the battle scenes, a decision that on one hand guaranteed realism but on the other also let you know that Republic Pictures, even on one of its bigger-budget productions, had its roots in a collection of smaller indie studios that are often referred to by the self-explanatory name of "Poverty Row". That said, while the real-life war footage wasn't quite seamlessly woven into the film, it did fit remarkably well, and the action they did shoot for this was very well-done. Tarawa felt like a mess of a battle where the fresh recruits were constantly screwing up and had to be bailed out by an increasingly frustrated Stryker, Iwo Jima by contrast made them feel like a well-oiled machine who had learned how to function as both a unit and as individual Marines, and both scenes did a great job of establishing the lay of the land for the battles and the Japanese soldiers as a credible threat to the Marines.
The supporting cast were all outshined by Wayne, obviously, but they too made for a likable or at least interesting bunch, a group of men who all bring their own baggage to the table and have to overcome it if they want to become better Marines, my favorites probably being John Agar as the arrogant rich kid Pete Conway and Forrest Tucker as the tough guy Al Thomas who has old beef with Stryker. The biggest weakness was probably the romantic subplot with Conway meeting and marrying a woman named Allison in New Zealand. It felt like an afterthought, there simply to put a romantic image on the poster and broaden the film's audience, between the fact that Adele Mara didn't even bother with the accent and the manner in which she almost completely vanishes from the film after that scene. Given Stryker's own history with his wife, some more development there could've helped to flesh out both Conway and Stryker as characters, giving Conway something to fight for and reason to shape up while Stryker hopes that Conway doesn't make the same mistakes in his relationship that he did with his own. Instead, not only do we barely see Allison again, the subject of Conway now being a married man is only rarely broached after the Marines ship out from New Zealand.
The Bottom Line
While it's undoubtedly a movie of its time, Sands of Iwo Jima is otherwise a rock-solid war movie anchored by a Hollywood legend in his prime delivering one of his most iconic performances. It's worth checking out whether you're into history, the military, or action movies, if for nothing else than to see an exemplar of the kind of movie that generations of later American war films would find themselves responding to.

What is a Sales Funnel and How Does it Work?
Tumblr media
Hun, You're Speaking Greek To Me... My wife has an extensive computer and I. T. background, and she's fairly attracted to web site design and HTML code. Before she took on the full time job of being mom, and heck, even now, your lady talks computer language that I simply don't understand. It just never clicked with me. I'd always tell her I saw it no clue to what she was talking about when she and another computer tech would get together. Well, today, here I am as an internet marketer, and of course we have lingo that we use that most people have NO CLUE about. There are even a few internet marketers that have no clue as to what certain lingo actually means. I know I didn't when first started off this internet entrepreneur path. I remember reading Mike Dillards "Magnetic Sponsoring" almost two years ago and asking average joe "What the hell is a funded proposal? " And "How do you make a sales funnel? " I had virtually no clue at all what those terms meant. Fast forward 2 years and here I sit now instructing some others on what "Funded Proposal" and "Sales Funnel" actually mean. In reality they are truly simple concepts. Let's tackle gross sales funnel first, because as we get into what a sales funnel is, it becomes apparent what a funded proposal is usually. Sales Funnel - As I Was Taught A sales funnel is typically seen with an attraction marketing system. (I've supplied a diagram here at the bottom of the article since some people are more visual learners). It all starts off with the marketing techniques you're using. That's essentially the opening of the funnel. You have your marketing resources catching people's attention and attracting them into the funnel. They enter the funnel once they fill out the form on your PERSONAL lead capture page. My partner and i say "personal" because no one is going to opt in on your business lead capture page. They want to join a standard, not a business. The lead capture page is the entrance into the funnel - when they click that "Sign In place Now" or "Enter Here" button, they enter a whole new concept in network marketing. The best part is quite possibly qualifying themselves to do it. It is their decision. You've sold them nothing, other than yourself as a leader, some mentor, and as someone that can show them how to get more leads and more cash into their business. At this point when you start marketing properly, there should be a large number of leads pouring into the sale funnel from your social networking sites (Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, etc . ), flag ads, forums, and blogs. The number of leads will be even larger if you're using Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising - nevertheless that's a different topic for a different time. All of these leads have clicked on an ad, seen your lead seize page, and filled out the form. What happens now? Well, they immediately start receiving e-mail messages from your auto-responder enjoy clockwork on auto-pilot. Building Your List You have probably heard over and over, the money is in your list - ones list of contacts and prospects. Or maybe "monetize your list"? Does that sound familiar? If so, your list is simply that leads that have opted into your personal lead capture page. That's it! The more leads that opt in, the bigger your list grows. I only wanted to clarify this because some people still seem confused as to what a "list" actually means. The Auto-Responder What's in the messages? Well there are different things you want to have in there. First off, a greet message greeting your leads into your site and setting the tone of what to expect in the coming days to weeks, weeks, or months (depending on the number and scheduling of your messages). There are several things you can be offering to most people via the auto-responder. Things to help build your rapport with the lead - like links to valuable options, information about you (your background or your story), who you are, and what you're all about. Essentially ways for any lead to learn more about who you are. Of course one other way to get to know your leads, and vice versa, is to actually telephone them. Crazy concept I know! If a lead includes their number on the form, give them a call! It is a great immeasurable way to build that relationship with your lead and for them to get to know you. There are a METRIC TON of entrepreneurs out there that NEVER do this. Imagine how you will stand out from the crowd just because you took 5-10 minutes to help you call a new lead. They'll love you for it! You can also include an initial boot-camp or training camp scenario as a result of messages and video links that include the training information that you may have offered on your lead capture page. This is another smart way to promote you as a leader because you're giving away your valuable information for free. Back to the auto-responders. Now, don't forget, you're not slamming them with your business right off the bat. You introduce them to that later on down the road. You use the auto-responders so that you can simply tell them about you, help build your relationship, and put in your affiliate links to your affiliate web pages that you use to market yourself. That way, when they click on the links that you offer them, and they purchase something from which site, you get a commission from that sale. This can happen many times or just once. This is how you can get paid more and more even when your leads never join you in your primary business! Remember the Funded Proposal I was hinting about? Well this is the best place to introduce it because it ties in with your affiliate links. The Funded Idea The funded proposal is a vital part to your sales funnel. A funded proposal is the process of the providing of an inexpensive but very useful product to cover the costs of your business, then introducing your actual business later on when your leads have gotten to know you. What it does is fund your business long enough with immediate sales so you can advertise more which brings you more leads, meaning you can sponsor more leads into your primary online business. If done correctly, your expenses should equal $0, or you can actually be making a profit. Examples could be sales from the affiliate links you provide in your auto-responder messages. The resources for affiliate commissions are endless. To mention a few there is Mike Dillard's Magnetic Sponsoring course and all of those products, Ann Sieg's Renegade Marketer course, Perry Marshall's Definitive Guide to Google Adwords, list builders, auto-responders, social networks, e-books, etc . The list can really end up endless. The primary reason for a funded proposal is what I've just gone over - the sales of your low-cost products to fund your business. But there are other reasons as well. 1 . When you have someone that purchases products from your affiliate marketing links or buys your e-books, you have an existing customer as well as their contact information. They are a lead! It can be much easier to introduce them to your affiliate links and products later on rather than a "cold" prospect you've not produced a relationship with. This is how the REAL money is made in network marketing! 2 . Because of the help you've already provided by way of your valuable information in the e-books, you've positioned yourself as a leader, not a salesman. You've offered them simple solution, your advice, your help, and a system. 3. The information they've already bought from you via your online links or your written material is educating & training them. If they choose to become a part of your business along with downline, they're already trained. Your work is darn near complete. 4. The biggest problem with anyone joining your network marketing business is that it can take FOREVER before they feel any sort of positive cash flow. The funded proposal eliminates this issue. Your leads and downline get into positive cashflow quickly and this eliminates burnout or dropout, instead, it encourages confidence and momentum. If you use a funded proposal system, it means positive cash flow for you, endless leads for you, and then a monetary source for more advertising, and even more leads. This is the system that the top income earners are using. They may not be selling their biz opportunity upfront. They sell and promote everything BUT their primary business. The financed proposal drops money into their business and attracts more network marketers to them. Attraction Marketing! Back to the Sales Route Up to this point your leads are getting the e-mails from your auto-responder. They are learning valuable information, techniques, strategies, and even what it takes to become successful in this industry. They're also learning some information about you and the leader that you are. But, We one thing I always do is provide more of who I am. More of me so that my leads not to mention prospects get a better idea of who I am. I simply compose one message and add it into my auto-responder to send out to my leads. That message contains all of the links to my social networking sites - your blog, Face Book, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, Better Networker. com, etc . All of those sites contain videos, photos, options, thoughts, tips, and strategies that I give away for free. This way, whatever I post in those sites, my potential customers can get updates about me instantly. Plus they get to look at what I'm up to at any given point and also realize that I'm just a regular Joe. I'm not doing anything special. I just figured out the method to get this to figure for me, so I teach others how to do it as well. Pay it forward! The leads that have made it this very far into the sales funnel are highly qualified leads. They've gone to my lead capture page, they've received a messages via the auto responder, and I've talked with them personally over the phone. They're attending the training phones or webinars. Some leads I even get to meet locally or at conferences. They've visited my web site, seen my profiles on Twitter or Face Book, and subscribed to my newsletters. I've been building a connection with them all. When a lead has made it this far, they are very qualified! The next step is the end of the sales route - the introduction of my primary business. This is where you hope to drive ALL of your leads to. It do not ever happens because some leads fall out of the funnel along the way. And that's o. k.! Fall out will happen no matter what sales funnel process you're using. But the ones that make it this far are introduced to my primary business. They are introduced because of several different avenues. First is through my auto-responder messages. A message containing the links to my primary internet business lead capture page is sent out and introduces the lead to what I do. Another route is through our blog site or Facebook. I simply send them a message when the timing is right, or they click on my the flag ads, or they are directed there by a message I leave, or they attend a training webinar and are unveiled that way. When I've done a good enough job with providing training for my leads and built this relationship with them, they will join my business because they see what I and my business can bring them. Truly, That's it! A sales funnel explained from top to bottom.

Salem Horror Fest 2024 Week 1, Day 4: Welcome Week: A College Horror Anthology (2024)
The last day of the Salem Horror Fest's first weekend had two movies. The second one is one that I really want to talk about... but I can't, because not only was it a secret screening, they also told us not to tell anyone that it was shown at the festival because they didn't want to put a potential distribution deal into jeopardy. This unfortunately leaves me with the first movie I saw that day...
Welcome Week: A College Horror Anthology (2024)

<Originally posted at https://kevinsreviewcatalogue.blogspot.com/2024/05/salem-horror-fest-2024-week-1-day-4.html>
Score: 2 out of 5
It's kind of a shame that the first weekend of the Salem Horror Fest ended with this, because I was not impressed in the slightest. As the title suggests, it's an anthology horror film in which every segment is set in college during the first week there, and there were a few cool ideas buried here. The problem is, not only were the production values extremely low-budget aside from the gore, but only two of the segments worked at all, there was a bad case of whiplash when it came to the general tone of the different segments, and the wraparound ultimately brought the entire thing crashing down. It wasn't completely irredeemable, but this is not a movie I can readily recommend on any level.
The basic premise concerns a student named Andrew Cross whose four older siblings all died in their first week at college. His paranoid mother, believing the family to be cursed, tried to stop him from going to college at all, and only relented after he went to a "military boot camp" first. Sure enough, in his first week at school the campus is stalked by a woman in a mask and a trench coat killing people. As he and his roommate hide from both the killer and campus security after a misunderstanding sees him accused of being the killer, he recounts to his roommate the stories of what happened to all his siblings.
The film got off on the wrong foot the moment it showed me a clearly fake plastic knife, the kind of thing you'd buy at Spirit Halloween, being passed off as a real one in the scene where Andrew is packing his bags for school. At that moment, my expectations fell through the floor as I began to expect the kind of film that Brad Jones of the web series The Cinema Snob calls "shot on shitteo", a movie where the filmmakers clearly didn't have any sort of budget or ability to manage a film production. From the subpar acting to a look that was barely one step above a home movie, it was clear that this was made by student filmmakers in such a manner that it felt like I was watching the bad student film that Urban Legends: Final Cut opened with.
That said, the low budget wasn't the real problem here. There are many no-budget films that managed to wring a dollar out of fifteen cents, even beyond just found-footage films that incorporate their low production values directly into their aesthetics, but this wasn't one of them, especially given that not only do its problems go well beyond just the production values, but one segment actually did manage to largely overcome them and accomplish something approaching genuinely good. No, the thing that stopped me from enjoying this was how incohesive it was. We start the film with two comedic segments, "Blood Stream" and "Sore Throat", the former taking the form of a YouTube livestream in which a guy suspects that his roommate is evil and the latter being focused on body horror, but they are then followed with "Freshers" and "Falling Into Place", two very dry and humorless segments that take their premises seriously. What's more, even within the segments we get character motivations that are frankly ridiculous, which worked when the film was trying to play the events for comedy but not when it was trying to establish actual drama and stakes. I was never able to buy into the "curse" surrounding Andrew's family, and given how many gags it made about it early on (for instance, Andrew wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying knives on him when heading to a party), I found myself wishing that this film just leaned straight into the humor and the farce instead of trying to get me to care about these characters, especially once the final twist goes straight into the most ridiculous soap opera territory in a way that was never foreshadowed and felt completely unearned.
Strange, then, that the one segment I did unequivocally like was also the most serious among them. "Falling Into Place", the fourth and final segment not counting the conclusion to the wraparound, was about a young woman grappling with the curse and losing her will to live in a way that felt deliberately evocative of The Ring, and it actually made for an interesting character study in its brief runtime. It felt like the makers of that segment, Katie Jordan and Cory McCullough, got a completely different assignment from the other filmmakers and went a lot more psychological, and it was enough to singlehandedly keep me from writing off the whole movie. I'll also give it props for some good gore effects in "Sore Throat", a short whose centerpiece is a man succumbing to a fast-acting virus that starts as a bad case of "frat flu" and gets even worse from there, and in the finale where Andrew confronts the villain. The effects were clearly done on a small budget, but they had energy to them, and it was in these moments where it felt like the movie the filmmakers were trying to make, a gleefully violent campus horror/comedy romp, came out to play.
The Bottom Line
I hate giving a low score like this to what were clearly passionate filmmakers who were kind enough to do a Q&A session after the screening, but even so, Welcome Week was a disappointment. Better luck next time, guys.

Game development today involves several stages, starting with concept development, working through an initial design, and then production. A game’s coding language is chosen following the development of the game’s initial design. Games are developed using a variety of programming languages depending on the platform (console, computer, or mobile) and the scope of the game. Additionally, not all games are programmed with a single language — they may combine several.
Here is a brief overview of some of the most popular languages used for video game development today:
1. C++: C++ is an object-oriented programming language. Its speed, ease of use, and widespread adoption make it stand out as a highly desirable language. According to Game-Ace, it is widely considered the gold standard in game programming, and many call it the best coding language for games. Some titles made with a C++-based engines include the Assassin’s Creed, Doom, and the Bioshock series.
2. Java: Java is a general-purpose programming language that is designed to adapt to an evolving environment. According to MasterClass, Java game programming is nearly universally compatible, making it incredibly versatile and one of the most popular languages used today. Video games made with Java include Minecraft, RuneScape, and Star Wars Galaxies.

3. HTML5: HTML5 refers to the latest standard for HTML, which is an underlying code that web browsers render. Developers are increasingly turning to HTML5, which GameDeveloper calls the “future of gaming development” because of its web-based nature, offering added flexibility. Popular games made with HTML5 include Bejeweled, Angry Birds, Kingdom Rush, and 3D Tetris.
4. JavaScript: JavaScript is widely known as one of the foundational technologies of web development, powering over 95 percent of websites across the globe. With the adoption of HTML5 for gaming, JavaScript has also become the core pillar of HTML5 game development in terms of programming languages, says GameDevAcademy. Popular games running on JavaScript + HTML5 include Browser Quest, Diablo JS, and HexGL.
5. C#: Pronounced “C Sharp”, this programming language is a popular choice for developing a wide range of applications as well as video games. In fact, it is one of the main codes seen in popular game engines today such as Unity. Some examples of C#-based games include Pokemon Go, Hearthstone, Temple Run, and Assassin’s Creed Identity.

Step 1: Learn to Write Code
Almost all the games you’ve played on consoles, smartphones, and computers have been created by skilled developers. These talented professionals possess the skills to write scalable and robust code that drives these games. If you are looking to get started in game development, we recommend gaining an understanding of the languages featured above. A coding boot camp is a great way to learn many of these skills and more.
Step 2: Design a Small Game
Making your first game is an excellent opportunity to showcase the coding skills you’ve learned. You learn a tremendous amount as you work through the challenges of designing and building a game from scratch since there is no existing framework to utilize. We recommend starting with a small JavaScript game that you can show off in a portfolio once you’ve finished.
Step 3: Create a Game Design Portfolio
Once you have begun designing your own games, you will want to create an online portfolio that you can show people when they ask for samples; highlighting your best and most relevant game design work. You should ensure your portfolio reflects the field of game design that you’re interested in, whether that be level design, systems design, interface design, or another discipline.

What new skills/knowledge should I learn as a freelance web developer in 2021?
Coding Skills: Web developers should know how to code. Start learning HTML, CSS, and Javascript. There are free and paid online and offline courses or boot camps that can help you learn to code when you start from scratch. At least you can only do freelance work with some knowledge of HTML and CSS. You can also use a CMS like WordPress if you don't want to write too much code. A lot of successful freelancers go this route and that's fine.
Entrepreneurial Skills - A common mistake new freelance web developers make is the inability to view them as a business. Starting a business requires certain skills including but not limited to marketing, branding, pricing, negotiation, networking, and more. Since this is your business, you manage everything from finding customers to managing cash flow.
Bottom Line: To be successful as a freelance developer, focus on programming and business skills.
1. Constant learning and improvement. In a fast-moving industry like ours, keeping up with the times means never stopping to learn. 2. Stay up to date with the industry. 3. Manage time and set priorities. 4. Understand UX. 5. Communicate well with others.
