#Haikyuu!! 10th STAGE

Looking at my trail of fandoms is interesting 'cause you can see a direct connection between my subject of interest and what point of life I was/am at

Starting with mha; grade 10 I'm newly discovering discord and branching out more than ever, discovering proper art communities and engaging in fandom and online spaces for the first time. All this and more while falling in love with a series about a bunch of freshly minted 10th graders developing and discovering themselves and who they want to be etc etc this part is pretty easy to figure out

Immediately following MHA everyone's staying at home and I fall in an even deeper love with Haikyuu in gr 11 and 12 (largely because this fandom has phenomenal fanfic authors) and Haikyuu coincidentally has a slew of characters to relate to, many of which were dealing with similar highschool dilemmas as I. Not to mention this was one of the first and only series where I could watch a character and actually think "omg look it's me!" Except that character is actually Bokuto and Akaashi combined because I am a multifaceted person

Anyway, after/during Haikyuu (still not over hq tbh) my 2.5D jpop idol phase is reprised and lo and behold I'm diving headfirst into a series where all the characters have long graduated, but they're stillgrowing and choosing their paths forward and actually no– I was more addicted to the technical work in the stages and costumes and actors than the mostly nonsensically written character arcs. So scratch this one

Anyway again, now I'm running down memory lane in the Zelda fandom with new eyes and a new brain and also money to properly indulge in fandom stuff and recently doing a lot of review and analysis of my life to this point and where I want to go which still lines up with the fact Zelda has been a part of my life almost as far back as I can remember. Looking back on all of the previous games while pondering what will be of the next one is a lot like where I'm at right now. Things are good. I am tired. Goodnight

a/n: This is a part of @peachy-momos​’ 300 follower polaroid collab! I had a lot of fun with it and hope you enjoy, Berty boi is def one of my underrated faves of the AOT universe. Much love to my beta-reader @ivsahi who has now realized shes a bertholdt kinnie.

If you were to ask Bertholdt Hoover, 25, wildlife photographer for National Geographic, what his favorite camera he had used over the years was, the answer would surprise you.

It’s not his father’s old Minolta Maxxum 7000, which he found at age six. He wasn’t even after the camera, just fascinated by the worn leather strap that was peaking out of the shelf in the living room. And so he reached up on his tip-toes and yanked down, sending the rest of the books clattering as the 35 MM SLR fell into his grubby little hands. The crash gave his mother a fright, but her scolding died on her tongue as she saw her son’s steel green eyes light up with fascination as he played with the dials. 

Nor is it the Canon EOS 7D he got on his 10th birthday.  He carried that with him everywhere, taking pictures of him and Reiner on their adventures in the patch of woods beyond his house or the various dogs he saw in his neighborhood. He’s pretty sure his fingerprints have worn into the rubber grip on the side. 

Those cameras started it all for him, and they sit in retirement beside all the shiny DSLRs and focus attachments on the dark cherry floating shelves in his office. With a wall of his room dedicated to computerized gadgets that have let him capture migratory birds in flight and cheetahs mid stride, it’s almost outlandish that Bertholdt Hoover’s favorite camera looked like a child’s toy — for its nothing other than Fujifilm Instax Mini 9.

He still remembers the day you ran into him, quite literally, at the college bookstore, sending his film canisters flying everywhere and your coffee straight on to his weathered flannel. You were babbling apologies as he turned redder, going on about how you must be so blind to not see the literal tower of the human being in your way, hoping to salvage your fumble by treating him to a drink at your favorite cafe on campus.

After an outfit change, he found himself in a booth telling you all about how he’s struggling with color negative film development. You didn’t listen like Reiner does, who always interrupted to joke about how Bertholdt should help him stage his nudes, or even like Annie, who he was pretty sure lets him go on because it’s the perfect form of white noise to her.

Instead, you sat with your head in one hand, nodding enthusiastically and probing him further. You were genuinely interested, someone who made his passion feel appreciated. And that’s what caused that one coffee date to turn into another, and then three months later, you’re in his dorm room presenting him a cream colored polaroid camera with a Cyndaquill charm attached.

“It’s so you can understand the only camera I own,” you said, pulling your own polaroid out of your bag with a smile.

It looked minuscule in his giant hands, the device rotating in his palms as he tried to figure out the settings. “What makes this one so different from the ones I have?” he asked.

“Because you can’t edit the pictures, silly. You’re always fixing the lighting and colors even on your film prints, this just captures everything in the moment. And you can’t reprint them, so each picture is a limited edition Bertholdt Hoover original. See, look!”

Bertholdt’s head shot up after he heard the flash that followed the end of the sentence. He may love being behind the camera, but he still needs some time to be comfortable being in front of it. He was tensing in anticipation as you both waited for the picture to develop, the white square fading to reveal the image of Bertholdt, eyes narrowed as he tried to figure out the camera. He looked at ease, in his element.

It was the first candid of himself he ever liked.

“Aw, look at you,” you cooed as you slid the polaroid into your phone case. “Now I think that’s a moment of you worth saving, don’t you agree?”

A year later, he found himself bringing the Polaroid along with him on your dates. You had decided to celebrate your anniversary on Paradis Beach, laying out a red and white checkered cloth on the sand and lounging the day away. The snacks that were spread out on the charcuterie board dwindled as the sun began to dip into the waves; you and Bertholdt both focused on painting pictures of each other.

“And done!” you announced, turning your canvas around for your boyfriend to see. You had splotted it in blue and green, the black line art you drew of his face standing in a striking contrast. The canvas now hangs in the living room of your shared apartment, and you’d later argue that it was your Picasso inspired interpretation of your boyfriend to anyone who notices it at your dinner parties; but in reality, it looked like elongated Wirt from Over the Garden Wall.

“Why did you make me look like Jean?”

“It looks nothing like Jean, the nose is totally different! It’s not my fault you have the same head.”

“Please don’t tell him or show him that, he’ll rope me into his arguments with Eren,” he teased.

“Well, let’s see how well you did then, DaVinci.” You peered over his shoulder in search of his work. The watercolor rendition captured you perfectly — from to the flecks in your irises to the soft upturn of your lips when you smiled.

It looked like it could be one of his pictures. 

“I shouldn’t have agreed to do this with an art major,” you sigh. “Of course your painting would turn out more legitimate than mine.”

“Hey! I never said I didn't like it. And, I’m a Digital and Film Photography major, you know.”

“Tomato, tomah-to,” you stuck out your tongue.

Bertholdt broke out into a laugh as he looked at you, your brows furrowed in mock anger as you pouted back at him. As he saw you with your teal sundress fluttering in the wind, the flyaways of your hair turning golden under the setting sun, he realized that this vision of you was something he wanted to immortalize. And with a soft “look over here, dove” to beckon you gaze towards him, Bertholdt clicks on the shutter, a smile of his own growing behind the camera to match the one you’re beaming at him. He pulls out the film and waits for the picture to appear, and to his chagrin, the camera focused on the sun behind you, the film yielding your silhouette against the orange sky.

He frowned and turned the camera back around, searching for the light filtering settings.

“What are you looking for?” You moved to lay down next to him, your head falling back on his chest.

“The metering adjustment, it keeps focusing on the sun.”

“I don’t think a camera that was meant to be understood by 16 year olds would have anything that fancy,” you snorted, reaching out for the Polaroid to turn the dial to the image of the sun on the rim of the lens. “The solution is more simple than you think, o wise photography major. So smile! Let’s take a selfie.”

Now, Bertholdt finds himself chuckling as he pulls that selfie out of the box containing all the polaroids you had gathered in the three years you had been together. It had turned out horribly, catching only the top half of your face and his chin. It had taken you five tries to get both your heads into the frame, but he decides to hang up all of the pictures on the string in front of him instead of the sole perfect one.

He takes a step back to admire his handy work, the gazebo of the botanical garden he took you to on your first real date now fully surrounded with alternating garlands of your favorite flowers and photo donned fairy lights that were slowly coming to life with the growing twilight.

It was incredible how much that little camera had captured — the Camp Half-Blood halloween costumes, the weathervane like sleeping positions you found him with your cat, the pictures in front in every state sign you ever travelled to and the ones he caught of you cooking in the kitchen.

Your entire relationship filled the little white rectangles that hung from the wooden rafters, and the next step was in the little velvet box in his back pocket.

“So, Bertholdt,” Reiner calls out, “Which one of your fancy cameras am I using to catch the big moment in?”

Bertholdt bends down to rummage for the Polaroid in his camera bag, the cream shell now marred with a few scratches and the Pokemon charm now fading in color. He’s got Annie using the Nikon and Porco on his iPhone for a video, but he knows he can trust Reiner with the most important camera of all.

After all, this is a moment he wants to make sure you both have forever — unedited & irreplaceable.

before you grill me with my rankings please know that i! love! all! of! these! schools! equally! i do not hate any particular school; i am simply ranking their school spirit. this is also lowkey crack because what everyone said made me laugh and honestly i came up with this idea for the laughs. so, like, don’t take this personally.

thanks everyone who helped participate by filling out the google form!! everything you’ve said i used in this. we will be going from last place to first place, so let’s start!! btw i ranked 11 schools into 10 places, so there are two 10th placers HAHAH anywayssss

10: ITACHIYAMA, NOHEBI

Alright, so let’s start with Itachiyama. I got one person who mentioned them in my last category, which was “any other school i didn’t mention? & why” and honestly we don’t know anything about them. But perhaps the mere fact that they were winners says something I guess?

Moving onto Nohebi: their tactics, as we’ve seen in the OVA, aren’t the most...... ethical. Though, they’re still supported by their cheering section so I guess it’s fine by their entire school?

Okay, the team as a whole shows support for one another, especially their captain, Takeru. However, from what I recall, there’s not much... school spirit coming from their actual school. From Takeru’s family? Definitely, but they’re not the actual school.

8: JOHZENJI

Their whole team radiates spirit, but I don’t remember if they actually have a cheering section. Unlike Wakutani, where most of their spirit/support came directly from Takeru, each one of the members of the team had their own school spirit. Their school spirit isn’t that recognizable to be remembered by most people, though.

7: KARASUNO

Much apologies to the OG team. For one thing, their cheering squad, while I must admit is very impressive and loud, is not Karasuno High School itself. It’s literally coposed of a bunch of outside associations. And when their cheering section from the actual school does show up, they’re not even synchronized; they practiced for one day and called it “school spirit.” They showed up for one match and that was it.

I guess their school spirit within the team, their fighting spirit, makes up for it. Again, my greatest apologies to Karasuno. You can do much better than that.

Also Saeko coming in with a DRUM TEAM for the Inarizaki match,,, like they’re so so supportive and Karasuno’s not a rich school like Shiratorizawa, it doesn’t have a highly ranked band like Inarizaki but like the team itself they’re plucky and do the best they can with what they’ve got. ❞

6: NEKOMA

Honestly, I had a hard time choosing whether to put Karasuno or Nekoma in sixth place. I went with Nekoma because of Kuroo’s “inspirational” pep talk, which really shows the bond between each of the members of the team, but they’re still ranked pretty low because I can’t get that one scene out of my head from the manga where it’s this one match (I won’t say which one) where students from Nekoma attend the match and a couple of them go, “Wow, this is my first volleyball match that I’ve been to!” Like, dude, seriously? Wow. They also take sixth since their cheering squad, also composed of students, is led by a Nekoma Junior High student. We love supportive sisters.

5: FUKURŌDANI

I would have ranked them a little higher if it weren’t for other more spirited schools. The whole school knows how to hype up Bokuto, along with cheers of their own. The team itself knows each member so well that they’re able to adapt to whatever their ace is feeling.

❝ have u seen their dynamic? they're strong and so supportive of their ace, their captain, the family bokuto needed - i could go on but yes, i think u get the picture ❞

❝ They love Bokuto so much 🥺 they’re all v supportive of the team and it seems like they also know how to get him to perform better and Fukurodani’s a powerhouse so I feel like they get into it. ❞

4: AOBA JOHSAI

Their cheering squad is so synchronized and so well-performed. They know what they’re doing and when to do things. You can tell they’re devoted. School spirit within their team is pretty strong, and they have a good bond with each other.

3: SHIRATORIZAWA

So much to say about them. From their entire cheering squad that consists of both cheerleaders and drummers, to the fact that when they feel like they’re being challenged with who can cheer louder they start singing their school anthem? Absolutely powerful.

There’s too much to say. They’re so extra it’s unbelievable. The entire cheering section knows how to adapt to each members’ likes and dislikes, and will call others out when they need to do so. For instance, when that one guy asked the two girls not to cheer while Atsumu is serving? Absolutely wild. And when they start booing or play a tempo to throw off the opponent whenever it’s the other team’s serve? Their practice and precision really shows. It’s crazy. And I’m pretty sure that they’re the only school that brings their entire orchestra to play during the matches.

What I bought - Aug to Dec 2018

I think? I was looking for my last tag and it was on July, so I guess this post counts as everything I got for the rest of 2018 I didn’t post here. I think I did tweet them but I’m not gonna search for those over there now haha. Also, maybe it’s not everything since I did a quick look at my phone but I know I didn’t purchase much because of the treatment I was last year for a couple of months and also because I had a strike at work too... so saving up money has been hard even until now xD

I’m also gonna comment about my experience with proxy services... both good and not so good ones orz.

Yeah, I even posted scans from the magazines already xD (You can find them on my scans tag, they are the last stuff I have scanned and showed them here). It was also my last purchase on CDJapan haha. Tsuwamono songs are still one of my favorites on my phone ♥

Sea Opening Movie ~Special Edition~

This movie has a special story you know haha. Everything went... really wrong xD First, the movie was released on July 10th, but Slfshop posted that the main DVD had an audio flaw, so I contacted my proxy about this and they said they would wait for the new DVD that would be sent at the end of that month for free. This was my last order from Accio Tokyo before they closed down their services. So the new DVD arrived the first days of August, they contacted me and we were discussing the last details and I just had to wait for their invoice... and it never came, not soon at least. 

Days and weeks passed and I was trying to contact them for an answer and there was a day I just gave up... until I received an email at the end of September from them but from a gmail account orz. They apologized and finally the order was shipped at the beginning of October. But when the order arrived home, no one was to receive it xD So around the middle of October, I went to get it to my post office in one of my work breaks, but when I arrived there, I had realized my documents were robbed on the bus! Everything, credit cards, money and my ID and without my ID, I couldn’t get the damn package! So yes, it was a pain because I just had my phone to call home to come to get me... I was almost in tears because of my bad luck xD At the end, the woman of the post office had mercy of my miserable luck and accepted an old ID my dad had... but I was no longer in the mood to watch the movie in that moment xD Of course, I watched it time after and it was sad but the weird thing is that I didn’t heard any difference in audio or I’m so deaf? I still don’t listen to the CD by the way orz.

So this was far my worst experience trying to purchase something via proxy, but also my luck didn’t help at all xD

I don’t have luck anymore with Tsubasa trading cards, I had one repeated with Crescent Moon and another one with UTOPIA xD (I’m too lazy to post them now haha) The Di kita Malimot clear file is so cute and since I haven’t seen scans of Cast Size, I might post some of them along with other scans I want to post... it’s been a while since I don’t scan stuff after all ^^

And also, I’m so happy with all the Sakiyama stuff I received >.< UTOPIA album is awesome, the fact Tsubasa wrote two songs, his father one and his voice that he has been improving since the beginning... I’m so proud *cries*

And all of this I got them via proxy thanks to @beansproutsong, as usual. I’ve never had an issue with her or with any of my packages so I can say this is my good proxy experience so far xD When you talk to someone directly and not with a group of people that run a website is better (for me at least) because it’s more customized and it’s always good to talk to someone nice and kind. Designs for special cards given away to the MVP at various Vobaca events previewed. June’s will feature Futakuchi and July’s Kuroo. Also, postcards featuring scenes from the latest Haikyuu!! stage play will go sale from 10th May at the Haikyuu!! stage play exhibition currently ongoing in Tokyo.
