god don't you just hate people who overtag posts with the most inane unrelated tags and currently trending tags just to increase visibility

PSA to New Tumblr Users
DON'T CENSOR YOUR TAGS. DON'T.
Write out 'Suicide' Write out 'Rape' Write out 'Abuse' & 'Assault' & 'Gore'
If you don't use the real words in your tags? People won't be able to filter those out and stay SAFE.
You need to tag properly to keep everyone safe.
Don't water down warnings just because social media has trained you to water them down.

I am begging, begging y’all to understand the difference between gore and body horror please.
Body horror is transformation/monstrous sort of things like a mouth where you shouldn’t have one or like, the shifting bones and whatnot in werewolf transformations. It is where something horrific is happening within the body itself.
It is not a bloody nose, cuts, wounds, injuries ect. That is gore. It is not scars, limb differences, or visual disabilities either.
For fuck’s sake please learn this stuff because the next time I see someone tagging a scarred or disabled character as “body horror” I am gonna lose it.

[Image ID: a section from doesthedogdie, a site that allows users to put common triggers on movies. The question is "Is there body horror?". There are 4 votes for Yes, and 0 votes for No. The text below, which elaborates where and what the trigger is, says "bloody head/nose and some cuts on a childs arm from her mum. also an infected rabbit bite on the protagonist".]

"Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings" is a warning.
It is a warning that there will be no further warnings. That's what it means. It was designed into the structure of AO3's tagging system for a reason. If you only want to read fic with specific, distinct content warnings, you should not read "Chose Not to Warn" fics. Period. If you choose to read them, that is on you.
Regardless of whether you think the author is an asshole for any other reason, regardless of what you think of the fic they wrote, they're not the asshole for using that tag correctly and as it was designed.

Steam finally deciding to start curating user-submitted tags for popular titles is definitely a positive thing in terms of discoverability, but I'll be honest, I kind of miss the period where Doom (2016) spent several months tagged as an LGBT dating sim.

I know this behaviour is against the community guidelines, but putting that aside, what's your opinion?

Hello and good day to all my fellow Legend of Zelda fans!
As you may or may not be aware we in the Legend of Zelda fandom have been having some troubles when it comes to tagging on A03. Mostly that the only tags that seem to be available to tag various Links with was the Linked Universe specific tags. Which led to writers either trying to make their own tags (which no one knew how to find) or inaccurately using Linked Universe Tags. Neither of which were fair to creators writing outside of Linked Universe, or fair to the Linked Universe community (let alone JoJo herself!).
People trying to tag their non-Linked Universe fics were either scrambling to be found or blending their words in with Linked Universe works. And Linked Universe fans who were searching for Linked Universe fics ended up stumbling across fics they weren’t looking for.
So, with that in mind, I reached out to the A03 team in search of a solution. And they have gotten back to me! I am going to post a picture of their reply under the cut, but I will summarize it first.
There (now? I’m not clear if they’ve all existed before) are tags we can use for most of our various Links that aren't Linked Universe. They’re just not tags that go in the “Character” box. Instead, you put Link (Legend of Zelda) in the character box and then one (or more) of these tags into the “Additional Tags” box. The tags are ‘Link from X game’. So, for example: Link from Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom (Legend of Zelda) or Link from Twilight Princess (Legend of Zelda). If you try to put a specific Link in and they don’t exist already you’ll just have to fill it in unfortunately. And the more people use that tag the sooner it will be made into one that’s canonized.
Mind you! These tags should NOT be used for Linked Universe fanfictions. JoJo has explicitly asked that Linked Universe fanworks NOT be tagged with general Legend of Zelda tags. And that is what these are. So please leave these tags for those of us writing outside of Linked Universe.
I did a little experimenting and there seems to be a tag for every game EXCEPT;
“Link from Four Swords Adventures (Legend of Zelda)”,
"Link from Triforce Heroes (Legend of Zelda)",
“Link from The Legend of Zelda (Legend of Zelda)”,
“Link from The Adventures of Link (Legend of Zelda)”, and
“Link from Age of Calamity (Legend of Zelda)”.
There is also no tag for:
“The Hero of Men (Legend of Zelda)” (or whatever title could be used for the hero before Link from The Minish Cap)
But there are Character tags for “Ancient Hero (Legend of Zelda)” and “Hylia’s Chosen Hero (Legend of Zelda)” (who I believe is the First Hero).
The more we, as a fandom, use these tags (especially the ones that aren’t currently searchable) the more readily usable they will be.

seriously, if you're complaining about how much you hate [X character], please tag that stuff "anti [X character]" instead of "[X character]". Some of you don't know any better but I'm honestly convinced that some of y'all are doing it on purpose so that your flame bait gets put in front of the people who least want to see it. I'm not saying to not to whine about whatever character/ship you hate, just to tag it correctly so that the people who follow the tag cause that's their blorbo don't have to see it. Please and thank you.

Important about Tumblr posts
Do not tag "epilepsy" use "eyestrain" instead to save Epileptic life
Tagging flashing lights with Epilepsy or epilepsy warning will make it show up for epileptic users talking about epilepsy
"Eyestrain" and "flashing" are safe to use as a tag and save many folks

Fionna and Cake episode 7 Spoilers
ahem, Allow me to point out the obvious here
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SIMON WAS RIGHT, WITHOUT HIM, MARCY GET FOUND BY SOMEONE ELSE. SHE DID GET TO LIVE IN A BIG CASTLE. SHE DID GET SERVANTS THAT FOLLOW HER EVERY COMMAND.
Tumblr media
BUT WITHOUT HIM, MARCY DIDN'T GET THE LOVE AND SUPPORT OF A FATHER WHO TAUGHT HER HOW TO BE KIND AND LOVING.
WITHOUT HIM SHE INHERITED A WORLD THAT WAS EVENTUALLY DOOMED TO BE DESTROYED BECAUSE SHE NEVER BECAME A VAMPIRE HUNTER. ENEMIES WITH SOMEONE THAT SHE WOULD HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH, MAYBE ALREADY DID.
ALL BECAUSE SIMON WASNT THERE TO GUIDE HER
AND YET AS SEEN IN THE EPISODE HE CLEARLY DIDN'T PUT ON THE CROWN WHEN HE DIED, THEREFORE HE HAD TO WEAR THE CROWN FOR HIM TO DO ANY OF THIS, DOOMING HIMSELF TO INSANITY.

Pre-emptively blocking people is good for everyone.
Seriously. The amount of times I see people whining or laughing about being blocked when they 'haven't even done anything' just tells me that not many of you know its actually a really good way to properly curate your online space, and its not something to be offended over.
Blocking is a form of protection. Its also a form of mutual protection.
Especially on websites that don't offer more extensive or usable filtering, tagging and avoidance options. Twitter, for example.
Blocking isn't some personal insult. Its a method of saying; hey, we clearly shouldn't interact, so I'm gonna build this soundproof wall between us to make sure we can't.
To use The Salmon Analogy, if I run a restaurant based on salmon as the main ingredient, and you're allergic or or severely dislike salmon, me refusing to serve you isn't a personal sleight. Its me recognising that you can't or really don't want to eat salmon, and its me protecting you from an unpleasant experience and myself from you inevitably screaming at me for serving salmon.
If you are someone who enjoys 'objectionable' content, such as gore, and you stumble across an extremely anti-gore blog, its absolutely a viable option to pre-emptively block them. Maybe your paths never would've crossed, but its better to ensure they don't than potentially wind up the victim or hate or harassment.
Blocking is an absolute sure-fire way to ensure that you do not see something you do not want to. It should be used as liberally as you want to.
