watching currently airing cdrama the glory 雁回时 starring chen duling right now and i actually don't give a fuck about any romance in this show aside from the insane lesbianisms of protagonist zhuang hanyan and her devoted repressedly obsessive female assassin bodyguard chai jing, who has already 1) offered to kill zhuang hanyan's future husband, 2) tried to kill zhuang hanyan's future husband, and 3) set fire to his house. amazing and normal behavior over a woman you keep making huge tender puppy eyes at, whom you got distressed over when you thought she was considering getting married to someone. thank you chai jing

The glory female lead making bad decisions like always
She is a bit too eager to rush and try to kill her trash father every episode or so with ml trying to stop her every time...
she be going with a dagger that will literally get knocked out of her hand in one second against an experienced fighter as if there's no guards there.
Where's the cleverness wheres the planning.. Her trying to kill him is just suicide because
1- she isn't going to succeed like that lol
2- she simply going to get herself killed for no reason
Fu yunxi the better choice for someone to take care of his kid would have been to hire and pay a good lady to take care lmao would be better than this psycho atp
Idk how he thought that was a good decision especially after he saw her in the beginning though... I THOUGHT HE KNEW HER CHARACTER??? IS THE MAN CRAZY TOO LMAO
only explanation welp

Man ... jumping on a wild horse??? Days after carrying a corpse to save your family from ruin???
All I gotta say is that after after the hijinks of these 15 episodes ... Hanyan must have the craziest reputation in the capital.
And according to the preview, instead of being scared for their lives, some men are into that. Who would have thought?

the glory cdrama (early impressions a few episodes in)
the obsession that historical cdrama producers have with male leads who're some sort of important criminal investigator has to be examined. not that i have anything against them, but this is at least my tenth time watching a newly-introduced main dude brutally interrogating an official, and it's not particularly interesting
the family dynamics are...interesting. hanyan's cruel and incompetent half-siblings give the false illusion that this is the typical toxic family we see in most historical cdramas: a scheming concubine and her cruel children unintentionally enabled by a weak-willed but otherwise well-intentioned patriarch. Here though, there seems to be a lot more going on. I'm excited to see how it plays out. All the characters are well-acted, especially ruan xiwen/the mother.
fu yunxi is ruthless and brutal and honestly not someone i'd consider an ideal marriage partner. if i'm not wrong, fyx is under the impression that hanyan was the one who wanted to burn his tiny daughter and other relatives to death in a fire and is thus going all out. anyway, right now their interactions are just threats and lies from both sides. i'm pretty scared to see how they're going to write this into a functional relationship but i'm happy to sense that the narrative knows that they're toxic so far: hanyan doesn't think fyx is soooo hot for being competent, she thinks his f*cking terrifying (and also an efficient weapon of revenge)
i'm not too sold on hanyan's 'schemes': she's good at figuring people out and talking them into a corner but when it comes to setting up scenarios to trap them she's...not that intelligent? idk...
(like idk about you guys but...if i was hanyan living in feudal china i would NOT be inhaling smallpox particles because i "heard" that self-vaccination was a thing. sorry. i don't want to die.)
i also wish we saw more of fu yunxi's personality. i just don't care for him right now. he's more of a threat then anything else: like a ticking time bomb that holds stuff over her head.
good stuff: this might be the most well-matched couple ever in terms of competence. hanyan is a bit weaker because he's someone who's job is to investigate stuff whereas she just stays at home all day so her access to info is pretty low. but she holds her own against him fairly well.

@cardiolog1st asked: sometimes i think of all the faces i couldn't save, because i wasn't fast enough. xianxia!zayne
among the things she finds herself unfamiliar yet has grown somewhat used to is the the familiar and piercing cry of the suona each time it plays. she can never quite decide what it stirs in her; it always feels the same, like a weight pressing down on her chest, and yet oddly, a kind of release too — as if both burden and relief have learned to coexist in that single instrument. her gaze follows the final members of the funeral procession slowly moving out of sight, the mournful sounds of the suona ringing in her ears when his words register in her mind.
It’s ironic, really — that another thing shen hanyan finds unfamiliar but has been learning to be better at is the act of offering comfort. a physician trained to ease pain and prolong life should know how to speak gently, to soothe grief, to say something — anything — that might ease the weight of loss. and yet, she's never been good at it.
at least — she thinks, finding comfort in it — she may just be talking to the only person who wouldn't misunderstand her.
"i think about them too," she says at last, her voice quieter than the wind rustling through the withered grass. "i don't suppose there's any way not to, we're only humans after all. it's natural." a burden, is what she wants to say, but she doesn't, for it's one that she would carry gladly.
"but even the fastest hands can only do so much. you know that, don’t you?" she turns to look at him, the look in his eyes not unlike hers but her next words come softer, almost like an (childish, one might even say naive) offering she hopes might eases his burden, even if just a little. "but if you ever need constant living proof that you saved someone because you were quick — well, you’re looking at her." if he hadn't come to her in time when unfavorable rumors started spreading about them, she wouldn't even be having a conversation with him right now.

Finally I finished watching The Glory. It's been so long since the last time I watched a makjang drama. 100/10 it gave me headache and heartache 😤😭
Though I don't quite agree with how they execute the father, overall I like how everyone gets their freedom and peace.
Also, it's kinda frustrating to the point it becomes funny how they manage to show at least 5 wedding scenes. We all know that wedding scenes in costume dramas mostly mean looming doom, and they give us 5?? 6?? Idk. I lost count 😅. Every time I saw those red decorations I was like, "hhh, here we go again 😒😮‍💨"
Anyway, it's a really good drama. I'm glad they still make this kind of drama. Sometimes I just want to watch a pure historical drama without all those wuxias and fantasy elements 😊

jun let out a breath, immediately stressed that the woman wanted to run towards the danger. he pinched his nose and inhaled. they would have to be quick and ready for anything. maybe he could drag the driver while she ran? or maybe he could disarm the assliants while she tended to the driver? jun followed her just a pace behind but skidded to stop when she did.
his eyes widened as their path was cut off. he began pushing her back. "go, go, run, run!" jun palmed for a small knife he had tucked into his side. "i'll be right behind you." he glanced at her. "don't wait up for me..."
she could hear it in his voice — hell, a more reasonable part of her is telling her the same too. that the man is right and her life surely wouldn't be negotiable if the other attackers were upon her. yet shen hanyan has always been one to bet on chances, no matter how slim. "we still can save him." she insists, trying to keep her voice level. she nods firmly, silently agreeing to his suggestion, despite fully intending to do anything but. not yet, anyway. she makes her way to the direction of the driver, convinced that with the both of them moving him, surely they could get out there faster and —
barely a few steps forward before a figure approaches from ahead, cutting off her path. her breath hitches as her gaze catches the glint of a knife, its cold steel reflecting the light. stumbling back and almost bumping into him, hanyan's voice trembles a little as panic continues to slip in, "there's not- i think we have to go now. to the woods."

Fu Yunxi and Zhuang Hanyan have the kind of menacing sexual tension that in a modern drama would lead to a ton of hate sex and I respect them for that.

she always was lmaooo
man is really desperate and crazy tbh( theory of him being poisoned really might be true sadly) if he married her after knowing her character lol like she is dangerous. would never trust her with a secret ahhh. her dangerousness aimed at her pathetic dad is great though but not fu yunxi and his fam man he never did anything to hurt her tbh. from the both of them he is the more sincere one. she keeps saying he used her but uh no? he used her family lmao not her
she used him way more. he saved her also so many times.

a few mins earlier
Tumblr media Tumblr media
look at that crazy smile lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
bruh she never trusted him what she going on about
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
plan nicely lmao whats the point of killing him at the cost of her own life..more satisfying if she lives a good life after he goes rip ahhhh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
only reason she could is man actually fell in love with her lmao
poor guy actually loved her ( has to be lmao otherwise no way he would do all this just for deal but he is crazy for liking her too because wth that is not a person to be loved at all actually neither of them are ppl to fall in love with lol) and decided to help too but she thought he said those things on purpose to make her believe that. girl not everyone fakes everything in life ahhh genuine feelings exist
but its fun seeing her go after the dad lol too bad dad keeps having random comebacks ahhhhh
but then drama would end because he is the only main villain so far..so they need more episodes then.
