Prompts - Claiming Closed
READ ME FIRST: Claiming prompts will be open from the 29th of September and will close on the 5th of October.
Prompts have been made to be simple to ensure that there is as much room for interpretation as possible - if you want to base your whole thing around the prompt, or just have a little bit of it in there, it’s up to you.
There is a mix of traditional halloween prompts, horror based prompts, and softer fall based prompts so hopefully something for everyone!
If you are working with a partner, read the Partners Info  before claiming.
HOW TO CLAIM:
Prompts will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis.  If you are in a partnered pair, only ONE of you needs to claim the prompt. Hopefully you have already discussed this, or have some idea of which prompt you would like to share. You should have decided between you which prompts you’d like and who will be making the claim.
When you’ve decided which prompts you would like, please send an ASK to DGHDASpookfest. Please contain the following in your ask: You and your partners URL’s. (If you have signed up using a side blog, asks will come from your main blog. Please supply the URL you used to sign up to SpookFest in the application form.) At least three, but no more than five preferred prompts, in order of preference. (With both the number of the prompt and the prompt itself.) You will receive ONE prompt ONLY.
PLEASE DO NOT ASK TO CLAIM ON ANON. I won’t know who you are and will be unable to claim a prompt for you.
Once a prompt has been claimed it will be crossed off the list below. Once a prompt is claimed it is no longer available. If a prompt is available on the list at the time of sending your ask, but claimed by someone else before you, then your second preference will be taken, and so on down your preference list.
If all of your preferences are taken then I will let you know, and you will need to resubmit your claim with new preferences. (I’m hoping this won’t happen, there are a lot of prompts, but some are likely to be far more popular than the others so please have patience with this process. I’m trying to make it as fair as possible.)
I will send you a message confirming your prompt when your claim is successful.
Other than that, please don’t reblog this post as I will be editing it as prompts are taken. Please don’t reply to this post, send all messages and questions to @dghdaspookfest and good luck with claiming.
Happy Spooking!

Nightmare of Elm Street: Day 2
When the black cats prowl and the pumpkins gleam…
May luck be yours on Halloween.
For centuries, All Hallow’s Eve (or Halloween) has been the night for all of the things that go bump in the night to walk among the human and mortals. Over the years, the meaning behind Halloween has taken many interruptions and forms depending on each culture. But, in North Carolina, in a little town called Shadow Falls, one of the states most popular ghost stories reign. In Sleepy Hallow, they may have the Headless Horseman, but down south, Shadow Falls is the town devoted to the Siren of the French Broad. Tourists come from far and wide to catch a glimpse of the ghost with the long dark-hair out in the water and to try their luck to hear the call of her song. In Shadow Falls, townsfolk are urged to for their difference to fade away over the next few days and come together for a day of ‘unity’ and ‘acceptance’. But, not everyone looks at Halloween this way…
This is the list  of the activities happening on Day 2 of the event.
The event will be concluded on October 20th at midnight EST. It will however only cover October 17th to the 20th in game play.
The tag for this event is #shadowhalloween1. So, please remember to tag all event related threads, pictures, outfits, etc. as such. Also, remember when posting a starter, to use both the event tag as well as the start tag. This event is mandatory, because of all the plot drops we will be having. If you do not want to participate, you do not have to, but we ask that you put your character on Hiatus for the time being or message the main, so that we can be aware if you and another player want to have your characters doing a private thread where they’re away for the weekend instead of participating. Also, because of this, we have decided to close acceptances off during the two weeks of the event.
PLEASE LIKE THIS POST AFTER YOU’VE READ IT. For any questions or concerns regarding anything about the event please feel free to message the main. And note that as per any major plot, if you want to INJURE your character, KILL an NPC (human or Supernatural),  or any other MAJOR plot related occurrence during this event, YOU NEED TO MESSAGE THE MAIN FIRST TO ASK FOR APPROVAL. And last but not least, just have fun!! We hope you enjoy this event just as much as we enjoyed making it for you!
ACTIVITIES for DAY 2 aka Halloweekend:
So, what’s happening in town on Day 2?
We have several activities for citizens to take part in listed below. Feel free to post starters in any order which you like. For example, feel free to make a starter about a party and then later post one about a prank. The times associated next to each activity are just in case you want to describe if it was sunny out or your character is grumpy that it’s super early etc.
Clean up Crew/Silent Dance Party:
After all of the teepeeing and pranks that were pulled last night, the mayor has sent out a request for volunteers to help get the town’s streets prepped and ready for trick or treating. So if you’re an early bird or someone whose house was hit last night, make your way down to town hall to borrow some industrial trashcans, replacement decorations, and have some morning bagels, pumpkin spice lattes, and mini pumpkin pies all courtesy of the Pie Hole. Thanks to the Shadow Falls Public Library, the town will also be renting out headphones that you can pick up to par-take in a silent dance party of sorts in order to make the town clean up just a little bit more fun! So, jam out to some music and help get the streets all suited up for today’s activities.
When: 8 to 10 am.; Where: Town Hall
The Haunted House:
The corn maze and hayrides will still be running all today, as well as, the Spookfest Street Fair. But, with an added bonus of one of the largest Haunted Houses this town has ever seen. The entire Library (including the street outside of it which has been transformed into a zombie run inspired obstacle course that you’re welcome to go through) has been transformed into an incredibly interactive experience that is sure to give you goosebumps. All of the proceeds from the tickets will go to new books  and each floor of the Haunted House has a different scare level.
Participants: Don’t worry if you’re a scaredy cat, the first floor of the building is the part of the Haunted House that is for all ages from kids to adults. If you have the heeby-jeebies from only that, feel free to leave through the back entrance. But, if your a horror fanatic or a haunted house enthusiast, take the elevator up to levels 2 and 3. If you make it through all three levels, you’ll not only get a sticker and a pen that looks like a syringe, but bragging rights for all your friends.
Volunteers: If you have signed up to work the Haunted House, then you will be transformed into a scary monster of your choosing and be given a post where you can jump out and scare whoever is walking through. You can be a severed head in a fake dinning room table or one of the zombies in the zombie run. Just remember, you’re not allowed to touch the participants just as they are not allowed to touch you and don’t forget to say boo!
OOC: Because the SpookFest Street Fair is still going on, the added stuff about witches and sirens are still in effect today too.
When: 10 am to 7pm;  Where:  Shadow Falls Library
Trick or Treating:
No one can forget one of the most popular parts of Halloween being Trick o’ Treating! And it’s no secret that in Shadow Falls, the best street to hit during your candy run is Elliswood Avenue. This picture-esque street is dominated by upper-middle-class families who love to compete for the best-decorated homes each year. It’s famous for the elaborate decorations and king-sized candy bars. It’s a perfect street to take the little ones trick-or-treating. Your character could be a resident of Elliswood Avenue, someone who appreciates the effort, or a chaperone for some kids for part of the night. (For a better idea of the houses on Halloween, check out these links [x] [x] [x]). There is even a magnetic sword in a stone at the street sign where young and old can try to see if they are the ‘chosen’ one.
Temporary Freedom: Once again, every supernatural in town has temporary freedom. If a species would like to walk around freely with their wings stretched out, reveal their fangs, etc. The risk of being caught for indulging in supernatural pleasures and appearances is low seeing that many hunters and cops cannot distinguish the difference between species throughout the weekend. Yet, cops are still on duty, patrolling the streets more heavily than usual, so even though supernaturals won’t be arrested for wandering around in their true form, hunters and supernaturals don’t get the complete freedom they have during the Full Moon (aka killing and feeding on other people in the streets is a no, no).
When: 5pm to Midnight;  Where: Elliswood Avenue
The Monster Mash:
On night two, there are one again two separate parties you are welcome to attend:
Neverland: Neverland will be putting on an all out costume party. Come donning your scariest garbs, your sparkliest make-up, or your cutest couples costume. There will be THREE main categories: 1. Best Couple’s Costume (can be funny, extra spooky, or cute!) 2. Scariest Overall (the scariest costume of the night.) 3. Cleverest Clown (not actually a clown costume, but a costume that the judges deem hilarious or clever.) Tag your character’s costumes with #shadowinspos and #shadowhalloween18
When: 8 pm to 2 am  Where: Neverland Speakeasy
Saints and Sinners: For those looking to indulge in the more hedonistic aspects of the night, Saints and Sinners is the place to be. With live musical performances and generous bar tabs, this is the club to live out your dark fantasies. Bring your costume, or as others would put it “lingerie with animal ears,” grab a drink, and hit the dance floor.
When: 9 pm to 2 am  Where: Saints and Sinners Club
Open Carry
Open Carry: The open carry policy is still in effect, so after the clock strikes 9 pm, the open carry policy begins. This means that you are allowed to take whichever alcohol beverage you’d like the streets as you wandered through the night. And for Vampires, special drinks will be offered all weekend with blood infused in it thanks to the Local Blood Drive and to the Hamlin Group’s newest creation- blood tablets. Drop one tablet into a glass of water and it instance becomes artificial blood for you to enjoy.
When: 9 pm to Midnight. Where: All Over Town
The Siren on French Broad Spotting:
Last but not least, as the time ticks to midnight and the fog rolls in, make your way down to Elm Street, the Trails, and the Pier to catch the Siren show on the water and a glimpse of the ghost herself. The show won’t start until 2 am, but if you’re smart, you’ll try to get there early to grab a good seat and get some good old fashioned hot dogs, turkey legs, and other traditionally american style food from the Devil’s Diner food carts set up along the water.
When: 11 pm to 1 am, Where: Over the Water

The United States' Most Terrifying Haunted Houses
The McKamey Manor is one of America's most terrifying haunted houses, yet getting inside is difficult. You must sign a 40-page waiver and have a physical and sports physical before attending. You must also provide proof of age and medical insurance. In addition, you must watch a two-hour movie of prior visitors quitting and be willing to forfeit the $20,000 prize if you complete it.
David Fachman revealed, The ghouls and ghosts will leave you feeling uneasy like you've never felt before. The haunted house is housed within the Eastern State Penitentiary, which has 30 foot-high walls and a 3-D experience. This location has been dubbed "America's scariest haunted mansion" by AOL City Guide and the New York Times.
The Beast, a four-story haunted house in Virginia, is a massive haunted home with four floors of screams. At the exit, there's also a steep plunge. Visit Baltimore's Bennett's Curse for the ultimate adrenaline rush. The event was named one of America's Scariest Haunted Homes by the Travel Channel. The monsters and terrible torture weapons will terrify you. General admission tickets are $30, while VIP passes are $60.
The Tooele Haunted House may potentially frighten you. The former hospital has been turned into a haunted house. Former nurses have described shouts and hostile ghosts while visitors are strapped to beds in the old wards. You might wish to reserve a hotel room or a room in the creepy hotel after you've witnessed the horror.
David Fachman suggested that, You'll also want to make sure you're well-prepared for the harrowing adventures ahead. There are many places to find haunted houses, and most of them have enough horrors to last a few hours. There's a reason they're so well-liked. It's entertaining to go, and many people enjoy the excitement of a good haunted house. Although not everyone is afraid of the undead, some people like the thrills.
While a haunted home does not have to be real to be called "scary," a good one will transport you to a location where the spirit of a famous killer is buried in the basement. The Bogeyman, clowns, and walking dead are the three attractions at Louisiana's second most haunted mansion.
The McKamey Manor is a haunted home in San Diego that is regarded as the "father" of "severe" haunted houses. It is a year-round attraction and is rated one of the scariest haunted homes in the country. It's a terrific spot for families because there are a lot of scary and creepy attractions nearby.
It's worth the journey, no matter which of the scariest haunted houses you visit. There's a haunted house for everyone, from the top-rated haunts on Travel Channel to lesser-known haunts. Every state has at least one haunted mansion. And some are much better than the others. Check out some of America's scariest haunted homes in your state for the best scares.
The Field of Screams is a hayride in Pennsylvania that promises to be the most terrifying trip you've ever experienced. There are insane physicians and nurses, as well as ax murderers and other monsters, prowling the premises. Attractions in these states aren't merely frightening. You can get into the Halloween spirit by visiting these terrifying haunted houses over the season.
In David Fachman opinion, While some haunted houses are actually haunted, there are plenty more that are simply a little creepy. The 13th Gate Horror Home, for example, is a 40,000-square-foot haunted house in Lafayette, Louisiana, with ultra-realistic sets including a zombie cemetery and an abandoned asylum. On November 5 and 6, the thirteenth Gate will hold Flashlight Fright Nights in honor of Halloween.
The Haunted Acres is a big SCREAMPARK with a number of scary attractions. The headless horseman is a massive SCREAMPARK complete with a massive hayride. Live entertainment, bonfires, and food are available at the other four haunted houses. You'll be terrified in various ways no matter where you go. While you're there, you might even find yourself trembling.

Ep 46- 13 Best Haunted Houses
The 13 Best Haunted Houses in the US in no particular order
Tumblr media
Okay, so it’s October. I know you want to get down and dirty in a haunted house, so these are the 13 best Haunted Houses to get freaky in. By freaky I mean very scared and anxious.
Netherworld- Stone Mountain, Georgia
70,000 square feet of horror. The 2019 themes are “Night of the Gorgon” and “Cold Blooded”. Netherworld has both indoor and outdoor haunted houses, four escape rooms, and fucking laser tag.
It’s famous for the elaborate set designs and props. The set designs and props are so fucking amazing that Zombieland was filmed inside of it and Halloween 2 (Rob Zombie) rented the props from it.
Cast members bungee jump, slide into you and scare the shit out of you. It’s nuts!
Field Of Screams - Mountville, Pennsylvania
Field of screams has MULTIPLE attractions. From haunted hayrides to terrifying mazes, it’s fucking scary!!
“Journey through the dark cornfields, where terrifying creatures live and horrific acts occur. Witness atrocities found only in your worst nightmares and experience the thrill of the walking dead. Experience terror like no other in a journey through the Frightmare Asylum where demented patients lie in wait for their next victim. Hear clown's giggling snarls echo through the halls as you try to escape the madness. Walk through the Den of Darkness, a haunted house that was abandoned many years ago but was never fully vacated by the twisted souls that inhabited it. They remain to terrorize guests and leave them screaming for the door. Even more fear awaits as you trek through the Nocturnal Wasteland desolate forest where few survivors remain. Nocturnal Wasteland provides the most extreme haunted experience as you come face to face with its disturbing inhabitants deep in the middle of the dark woods.” taken from their website
Asylum 49- Tooele, Utah
We talked about this in a previous episode. You know what’s better than a haunted house? A haunted house inside of a haunted asylum. You get touched, separated, and straight up fucked in this haunted house.
Eastern State Penitentiary: Terror Behind The Walls- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
What’s better than a haunted asylum? A mother fucking abandoned haunted prison. 6 (yes SIX) haunted attractions inside the walls of the Eastern State Penitentiary. From Zombies to mad scientists to classic scares, “Terror Behind The Walls” rips you away from your party and fucks the Halloween right out of you
The 13th Gate- Baton Rouge, LA
13 sections. 40,000 square feet. The 13th gate is designed with blockbuster-level tech so it’s CRAZY. The goal of the 13th gate is to blur the lines of reality so you really feel like you are experiencing a real event. Whether it’s walking into a room covered in insects and snakes, or trapped in a cave, they created each scene to capture you. The acting is top notch, so it really does a great job at mind fucking you.
Dent Schoolhouse- Cincinnati, Ohio
As you walk in, you hear the tale of a murderous janitor named Charlie, who killed students in the 1940s and 1950s and dumped their bodies in the basement of the schoolhouse. As you walk through the haunted house, you walk through the fucked up mind of the killer Charlie. You see crazy teachers, bodies,  gore, and some catacombs. The really cool part about this haunted house is they have “lights off” nights so all you have is a glow stick to guide you through the house
Haunts into christmas (changes everything to spooky Christmas shit)
Headless Horseman Hayrides and Haunted Houses- Ulster Park, New York
This is a whole fucking Halloween amusement park. There’s restaurants, gift shops, hayrides, corn mazes, 8 haunted houses, and escape rooms. It’s awesome!! This is on 65 acres of haunted land
The haunted houses are famous for their set design, makeup, unique props, and overall spook factor.
Erebus - Pontiac, Michigan
Four story haunt. From their website, “Dr. Colber, a mad scientist obsessed with time travel actually figured out how to make it work! But in doing this, every time he got one of his subjects into another time period, that time period itself looked at them as a virus and wiped them out! Obsessed with trying to make this work, he sent more and more of his employees into the time machine until he ran out of time, money, and subjects… Which brought him to a brilliant idea! Disguise his time machine as a haunted house! Now, he has an endless supply of human guinea pigs to use in his experiment, and better yet… they unknowingly fund the program.”
Erebus has physical obstacles you have to work through (swamps, ball bits, closing walls, etc to escape. It’s not for the faint of heart
Nightmare New England- Litchfield, New Hampshire
80 aces. 6 haunted houses. Rides. Food. Another club. Another club.
Nightmare on 13th- Salt Lake City, Utah
It’s so fucking fun, y’all. 36,000 square feet of pure horror. They change it completely every year, and make it even scarier. Cory and I went through a few times and it’s NUTS.
The Beast- Kansas City, Missouri
From their website “The Beast Haunted House is one of the greatest haunted attractions in the nation and keeps adding to keep visitors on their toes and scared out of their wits. This immersive nightmare is an open format where visitors lose their way around lurking threats of voodoo, a live alligator, werewolves, phantoms, and monsters. Traverse through a medieval time warp that goes to a time when it was an eye for an eye, the Beast within the man. There are 4 floors where the Beast is clawing to get the next victim before escaping by jumping out a 2-story window or slide 4-stories down. “
Hell’s Gate- Lockport, Illinois
From haunted.com “This dark adventure shuttles you deep into the forest where you must find your way through the torch-lit haunted woods, across the Cemetery of Lost Souls, up the hill and through the gate, to find the front door of the 1920’s Victorian Mansion, Moorstone Manor. Once in the house, you may feel that you have escaped the horde of zombies from the cemetery and forest, but your challenge has just begun. The house itself is alive with darkness and The Twins are searching for new hosts for their demon kind. You will need to find the secret passages in each room to escape the ever-pressing Darkness and make your way to the attic. After reaching the top of the house, you must ride the slide into the basement, find your way through a zombie-infested laboratory and attempt your escape through the Dragon Caves. The Gate itself is hidden in the caves below the house and from it the Darkness enters our world. Guarded by three dragons, the caves are vast and difficult to navigate. However, if you make it through the entire house and you can find the Key to HellsGate... Your ticket is free! This is not just a haunted house, it’s an adventure!”
Mckamey Manor- San Diego, California
