Getting back into the Magnus Chase books means that I get to remember the absolute beauty of Blitz and Hearth. Two lovely men who are rejected by their families for being different.

Blitzen is a brilliant artist who cannot survive in the sunlight, whereas Hearthstone is a talented rune mage who can’t survive in darkness. And yet, they are inseparable.

Hearth is known for not showing a significant amount of emotion, yet any time Blitz shows up after being separated from him, Hearth practically launches himself at the dwarf.

Blitz is unendingly protective over Hearth; always there to catch him when he feints, never missing a chance to defend the elf’s abilities.

They’re casually and non sexually intimate all the time. Whether they are queer platonic, romantic, or a secret third thing, they’re absolutely devoted to one another.

And I think that’s beautiful.

Just remembered something I wanted to put up here about the third mgca book The Ship of The Dead. After Magnus's flyting with Loki, the next day when everyone is on the ship together.

"The next day, Blitzen and Hearthstone went into nurturing mode, making sure everybody had food, everybody was warm enough, nobody was alone if they didn't want to be."

These two have SO much love to give. Whether it's their love for each other or the love for their friends, their family. They love every one of them so much and would do anything and everything for them. I love how they go out of their way to make sure that everyone is ok. If someone needs company or someone to talk with, they're there.

Heathstone and Blitzen have been through so SO much. And now they've finally found their real family in each other and the rest of their friends.

And they'll do everything they can to not lose it.

I think the Magnus Chase series unironically has my favorite representation in media. Like obviously I like Blitzstone, but I mean the CANON rep. (Rant incoming)

Homelessness, being treated as less than a person because you're on the streets, the mental war that comes with having a disability, being outcasted because of a disability/treated as less than because of having a disability, Being Muslim and their practices, being treated like a terrorist because of your religion and having to actively prove yourself every day, being over pressured, feeling "wrong" and "different" because of your interests, feeling like a failure as a person because you're not like everyone else, dealing with the loss of a parent, (arguably) having a narcissistic/toxic parent, having to face your phobias, (arguably) PTSD, the way manipulation can break you, etc. And i haven't even gotten to the second book yet. I'm genderfluid myself, and there is SO much I could say about the way they captured Alex and the way they showed Magnus coming to terms with how he might be queer. And, again, this is just the main cast. There's still the side characters! I'll make another post if people are interested lol.

riordanverse head-canons!

Some riordanverse (heroes of olympus, magnus chase, percy jackson, etc...) head-canons that have been living in my head rent free -Leo loves Garfield. Piper loves Hello Kitty. -Hearthstone is really expressive when signing but the moment he stops signing, like the VERY second he stops signing, he goes expressionless like how he is described in the books. *ASL is a visual language. A big part of ASL is facial expressions, it's what differentiates similar signs from each other. I always found it odd that Hearth stayed "emotionless" when signing because, presumably, is fluent in ASL as he's deaf. -Jason has low blood pressure, which is why he faints often. He gets diasogned with low blood pressure by Asclepius when Asclepius gave him glasses.
