#MyMFIT / Pink: The History of a Punk, Pretty, Powerful Color (2018)
Tumblr media
I first visited the Museum for the 2018 "Pink" exhibition and I completely fell in love! The way it was displayed and explained was amazingly inspiring for me as an artist.

Yves Saint Laurent | c. 1983 • • • Yves Saint Laurent had a love affair with pink. This gown, one of his most iconic, evokes powerful female beauty with its gigantic bow. This dress has always been a favorite of mine and I’m so happy to have seen it in person at “Pink: The History of a Punk, Pretty, Powerful Color” @museumatfit. If you’re in New York before January 5th, I highly recommend it! • • • (📸 by: me) #historicalfashion #fashion #fashiondesign #fashionhistory #historyoffashion #vintagefashion #art #vintage #defunctfashion #costume #costumedesign #couture #costumehistory #ysl #yvessaintlaurent #museumatfit #historyofpink https://www.instagram.com/p/BoNDiZ0FCLS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=n6kgcxp5r564

Sent to by the wonderful @thedesertmoss • @museumatfit with @get_repost ・・・ A World of Pink Week: In the United States, Mexican pink epitomizes traditional Mexico, while south of the border the color is often used to express modernity. Designed by Mexico-based designer Lila Bath in 1972, this dress was originally resort wear. The maxi style featuring tucked cotton and lace was known in the USA as a Mexican wedding dress. ___________________ Currently on view in Pink: The History of a Punk, Pretty, Powerful Color. #HistoryofPink Supported by #MaryKay #MyMKLife Link in bio. #MuseumatFIT #WorldofPink #MexicanPink #pink #onlineshopping #vintage #Mexicanweddingdress #LilaBath #style #laplus #jadore #femme #shop #etsy #fashionexhibition #fashionhistory @MaryKayGlobal @nyscouncilonthearts https://www.instagram.com/p/BrgSn3ZFEmW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1pjgqy8ong28d

#MyMFIT Mimi Plange
Tumblr media
One of my favorite exhibits at The Museum at FIT was ‘Pink: The History of a Punk, Pretty, Powerful Color.’  I loved how the show reflected how dynamic the color truly is.  It’s a passionate color, whether you love it or hate it. From historical references like Paul Poiret to the rapper Cameron, the show was a true reflection of diversity within the world and it was shown in a natural and unforced way.  It just made sense.  I think it brought together culture and craftsmanship spanning decades and showing us that stereotypes based on a color simply bear no weight in reality. A color can be anything we want it to be, it’s your choice.

#MyMFIT / His and Hers (2011)
Tumblr media
I did not know about the museum until my family and I took a drive to the city to take a look at the school for my younger daughter who was interested in attending her college years there. It was a Saturday afternoon and the first building we walked into was the museum. I was so intrigued as to the exhibit. I took 2 brochures (Japan Fashion Now and His & Hers 2010) I loved everything on display especially the his and hers exhibit, it was so wonderful to see all the fashions on display and how the garments were kept so well. I came home and signed up for emails so that i can come back and see all the exhibits on display, and I must say I have seen them all since. It's very hard to say which exhibit i loved the most,I love them all so much. If I had to pick i'd say the Fairy Tales Fashion and Pink, Punk, Pretty and Powerful. Those two I thought were a bit different than just clothes and accessories. Both had an aesthetic all its own and I thought made the display different and special. All the exhibits have an exciting theme and are put together exceptionally well. I love the museum and its exhibits and look forward to each one. I recommend the museum to anyone with an eye for fashion at any age. ~ Anne

#MyMFIT Tanya Melendez
Tumblr media
I have many memories at MFIT. It is my home away from home. Two stories that stand out are symposium related, which makes sense since I organize public programs. My son Adrián was born the day after the Japan symposium. He patiently waited for the event to end and came to the world 12 hours after the symposium reception. The other memory is when I spoke at our Pink symposium. I was so thrilled to present my research on Mexican fashion. It truly is one of the highlights of my career. I loved Pink and I loved Japan. Now that I think about it, those are probably my two favorite shows.

Wearing Memories: African Print Dress
Tumblr media
I designed this cold-shoulder dress to wear to my son’s wedding in a community garden in the East Village. When I asked what color the bride’s mother was wearing I was told pink, the bride’s favorite color. Pink was not a favorite of mine. I decided it would be a nice show of unity and my love for the bride, if I too wore pink. For a July outdoor wedding I needed to wear cotton for comfort. In keeping with my style and personality I chose a pink African print with gold foil accents.
