After several months of use, I am genuinely impressed with the IM508 and XP400 Pro’s performance.
I have successfully performed “All Keys Lost” on my 2007 Honda S2000 and programmed a new replacement key. Unlike my main immobilizer programmer, which failed to detect the ECU on this car, the IM508 flawlessly communicated with the vehicle’s computer, enabling successful key programming.
Moreover, I utilized the IM508 on my 2009 Honda Civic EX-L Coupe to reset a persistent ABS/VSA trouble code that my Bluetooth scanner and Torque app couldn’t resolve. Thanks to the IM508, after replacing a wheel speed sensor, I now have fully functional ABS and VSA systems.
I also applied the same ABS fault reset on a 2012 Honda CR-Z, which displayed a “low battery voltage” ABS code after the non-hybrid battery died. The dealership intended to charge my sister over $150 for a diagnosis, but with a new battery and a simple code reset using the IM508, everything was back to normal.
The only additional feature I wish the unit possessed is the ability to wirelessly connect via Bluetooth to the vehicle’s OBD II port, similar to some higher-priced scanners, or to pair with my existing OBDLink MX+ device.

Honda Accord Touring Hybrid et le maître de la miniaturisation

Le monde de l’automobile est de plus en plus difficile à suivre. Il fut un temps, où on ne voulait que de petites voitures, surtout au Québec. Puis, il y a eu l’engouement pour les fourgonnettes. Plus récemment, ce furent les VUS de tout gabarit qui prenaient les commandes de l’industrie. C’est alors que les voitures électriques ont commencé à faire leur apparition. Vu que la consommation de pétrole devenait moins importante grâce à des techniques hybrides, certains constructeurs automobile ont commencé à offrir de plus imposantes automobiles à leur clients. Mais est-ce ce que les automobilistes désirent?
La nouvelle berline Accord de Honda en est un exemple parfait. Les premières Accord  des années soixante-dix se voulaient des Civic un peu plus grandes mais pas au point de vouloir concurrencer les «grosses Américaines». Je me souviens de mon frère qui est arrivé à la maison avec un coupé Accord à hayon avec sa traction avant et sa boîte manuelle. Malgré son amour des Mustang V8, il avait succombé aux charmes de son Accord et commençait à se moquer de nous avec nos grandes Américaines (j’avais, à l’époque, un cabriolet LTD et une Fairlane Ranchero 500 XL et mon autre frère, une Mustang). Peu patient au volant, il a fini par démolir son Accord dans un rallye mais cela, c’est une autre histoire.

Si l’on compare son Accord de l’époque avec la nouvelle version Hybrid que Honda m’a prêtée la semaine dernière (la sixième et dernière d’un prêt de plusieurs véhicules pour lequel je remercie le constructeur), on voit bien que la petite voiture d’antan est devenue une véritable grande berline avec des dimensions (et une silhouette) nettement semblables à celles d’une «grande Américaine». On dirait vraiment une Chevrolet Malibu ou une Ford Fusion (ou même ma propre Lincoln MKZ)! Si les constructeurs asiatiques produisent maintenant des berlines de ces dimensions et qu’elles connaissent un certain succès, les grands constructeurs américains comme Ford (qui ne produit plus de berlines de ce gabarit) ou Stellantis (Chrysler qui a annoncé la fin de la production de ses Charger et Chrysler 300) auraient-ils pris une mauvaise décision? Et si les automobilistes abandonnaient les VUS pour revenir aux grandes berlines, même électriques comme la populaire Tesla S ?

La superbe Accord Touring Hybrid que Honda m’a confiée serait-elle l’annonce de ce qui est à venir? Au départ, elle est très belle (une remarque que plusieurs observateurs m’ont fait part…surtout qu’elle était d’une très visible teinte rouge!). Puis, elle est grande, volumineuse et spacieuse. Enfin, cette auto à traction avant était mue par un modeste et économique moteur à quatre cylindres qui génère l’électricité pour les deux moteurs électriques et leur batterie au lithium-Ion de 1,1 kWh combiné à la traction avant. Difficile à expliquer sans schéma, notons quand même que l’un des moteurs électriques sert à propulser le véhicule alors que l’autre sert de démarreur-génératrice (il démarre le moteur à essence au départ et après les neutralisations aux feux rouges et génère l’électricité pour les accessoires). Pour clarifier la situation, le principe de l’Accord Hybrid me fait penser à celui de la Chevrolet Volt dont le moteur à essence ne servait qu’à faire de l’électricité pour faire tourner le moteur électrique. Dans le cas de l’Accord, il est aussi à générer de l’électricité pour recharger la batterie… (Incidemment, l’Accord de base utilise un moteur à essence à quatre cylindres régulier et une boîte auto à variation constante CVT).

L’aménagement intérieur de l’Accord est à la fois sobre et luxueux. Et vu que ce n’est plus une «petite auto sportive», il affiche une finition plus élégante. Encore une fois,  le bloc d’instruments est très semblable à celui de la plupart des autres Honda avec des cadrans «vidéo» facilement lisibles. La planche de bord a un design presque rectiligne mais il est agrémenté d’un appliqué en dessin de nid d’abeille qui est reproduit dans les grilles des buses de ventilation. L’écran central vertical est grand et facile à lire. Notez que certaines de ses fonctions proviennent des prises USB et des sources d’Apple CarPlay et Android Auto. Quant à la console centrale, elle retient le levier de vitesses, des commandes électriques et des porte-gobelets utiles. Le volant présente aussi certaines dédoublements de commandes dont celles de la radio alors celles de la température demeurent au tableau de bord sous l’écran.

En ce qui a trait aux sièges baquets d’avant, ils sont accueillants et confortables, plus que ceux de la Civic ou de l’Integra! Il en va de même pour les places arrière qui présentent beaucoup d’espace pour les jambes des occupants (ce que l’on recherche dans une grande berline, n’est-ce pas?). Mais un peu moins pour le débattement de la tête cependant. Évidemment, la sellerie de cuir, standard sur ce modèle, contribue à une finition irréprochable. Finalement, Honda a réussi à créer un grand coffre comme tout utilisateur de grande berline s’y attend. Évidemment, le dossier de la banquette arrière se rabaisse pour agrandir ce coffre au besoin.

Si je reviens à l’ensemble mécanique de l’Accord, je vous répète qu’il y a un quatre cylindres de 2,0 litres sous le capot avant qui anime un moteur électrique pour la traction avant (non, il n’y a pas d’Accord à traction intégrale) et cette combinaison permet au conducteur de disposer de 204 chevaux. La suspension (qui a été révisée par Honda) est ajustable par des commandes à l’écran central alors que le freinage l’est aussi pour contribuer à la régénération de la batterie. Toutefois, même à son point extrême, le véhicule ne s’arrêtera pas lorsque le conducteur relâchera l’accélérateur mais on y ressentira la décélération. Les pneus qui équipaient ma voiture d’essai étaient des Michelin X Green 235- 40R19.

Sur la route
Malgré tout, cette grande berline s’est avérée amusante à conduire (un secret que Honda sait préparer). Les accélérations se sont avérées impressionnantes avec un temps de moins de huit secondes pour passer du point mort à 100 km/h. Les reprises ont également été plus que rassurantes. Ce qui m’a plu, c’est qu’il n’y avait pas de bruit de pneus trop audibles dans l’habitacle comme ce que j’ai vécu dans les Honda Civic et Acura Integra. Honda a donc réussi à donner des notes de confort élevées à sa berline Accord. La tenue de route est remarquable et la visibilité y est remarquable. On aime conduire cette auto. La direction est précise et le freinage au pied est bien calibré. Je le répète, on aime la conduire! Ah oui, la consommation…lors de ma semaine en déplacements surtout urbains, j’ai obtenu une moyenne de consommation de 5,7 l. /100 km (alors que l’ordinateur de bord indiquait 5,4). Enfin, notez que le prix de la version Touring Hybrid débute à 46 430 $ chez nous.

Au moment d’écrire ces lignes, la Honda Accord figure parmi les voitures les plus vendues aux États-Unis (au Canada, les ventes de la Civic lui semblent plus importantes). Et ce n’est pas pour rien. Avec de telles performances, les automobilistes qui préfèrent les autos aux VUS, surtout qu’elles sont plus attirantes ne serait-ce que par leurs dimensions plus utiles, il ne serait pas surprenant que l’Accord devienne la berline de choix des acheteurs. Son look, ses performances et sa faible consommation de carburant pourraient bien attirer des consommateurs qui ne sont pas encore prêts à passer au tout électrique. Je serais l’un d’eux! Oui, l’Accord est hautement recommandable!
Le plus remarquable des modélistes automobile
Je suis dans le monde de l’automobile depuis…la nuit des temps. Et je suis aussi un fanatique des autos miniatures de toutes les échelles. Toutefois, occupé comme je suis, je n’ai jamais pu atteindre un niveau de perfection dans la finition des maquettes en plastique (ou en métal) que j’assemble depuis l’âge de dix ans!

J’aime assembler des miniatures (autos, camions, avions, bateaux, etc…). Et j’aime aussi consulter les livres, magazines et sites Internet qui traitent du sujet et qui nous montrent des photographies de maquettes superbement exécutées. Toutefois, il est rare que j’y voie des maquettes aussi détaillées que celles de certains maquettistes québécois. Et parmi ceux-là, je dois nommer mon bon ami Pierre Fournier de Laval.

Pierre est un de ces perfectionnistes qui sait trouver toutes sortes de matériaux pour détailler au maximum les maquettes de plastique qu’il assemble. En fait, je voudrais dire qu’il SAIT assembler. Si l’on regarde de près certaines de ses Formule Un, Pierre ne se contente pas que de les peindre et d’y ajouter des décalques. Il en découpe certains panneaux pour nous permettre une vue dite «fantôme» des organes intérieurs du bolide de course. Chaque fil, chaque tube que l’on peut voir sur photo dans les magazines ou sur Internet y est ajouté dans la couleur qu’il est présenté. Pierre aime utiliser de véritables matériaux comme des cuirs fins pour recouvrir les sièges des voitures de course anciennes. Ou encore les gaines de fils de téléphone (il en aura retiré le fil de cuivre) pour faire le passepoil (piping) des sièges en cuir!
