State and Legislative Action
1. a - I did not find any press releases connected to internet security. I think why I didn’t find any releases is because it is not as pressing of an issue to these agendas as issues like school, public works, etc. I think although it doesn’t necessarily fall under federal authority, it is not that big of an issue. However, I do see it increasing in importance in the future as we move farther into the tech world with new innovations and ideas.
b - I disagree with their views on not taking a stance, because I view this issue as rather important especially in the 21st century when technology is being used on a day to day basis.
c - I didn’t find any legislation on internet privacy passed by Bauher-Kahan, I believe because she is new to her job, however I did see that in 2017, Glazer passed the Gambling Control Commission Online Posting of Votes, which ensured the safety of online voters.
2. a - The Bill that I found is AB-1782.
b - The bill was introduced on February 22, 2019.
c - The last major action of this bill was for automated license recognition info. It allowed information captured by license plate detecting devices to be retained by the California Highway Patrol.
d - I agree with the bill because in this day in age, with a lot of intensity between the civilian population and authority, it’s important to have digital rules as well as real ones.
e - Not applicable.
3. a - Senator Feinstein has passed nothing related to internet privacy, however both Harris and Desaulnier take the issue very seriously and have worked to ensure privacy on the internet.
b - In June of 2019, Kamala Harris Cosponsored bill S.1980, to ensure the privacy of LGBTQ+ people that take online federal surveys. I could not find any sponsorship of legislation from the other two senators.
4. a - Yes, there are 4 bills that are related to cyber security.
b - The bill number of the bill I chose to analyze is House Bill 2114.
c - The Bill in question asks should or shouldn’t the Energy Department give individual states money to protect themselves against cyberattacks.
d - It will benefit the Energy Department from international interference from foreign countries and groups.
e - I would definitely vote yea. As we saw in the 2016 presidential election, foreign tampering is very real, and we must do everything we can to stop it.
f - It originated in the house. The Energy and Commerce committee reviewed the bill, and recently the bill passed.

An original 1960s address book owned and compiled by Bob Wooler. It contains the addresses and telephone numbers of hundreds of contacts in the music business from the sixties including groups, artists, managers, photographers, venues, agencies and the press etc., the vast majority in the hand of Bob Wooler. The entries in the book appear to have been written between 1964-1968.  In the earlier part of this period, Bob was in full flow as Cavern Club DJ and it is possible that he may have used this book on a day to day basis to make reservations for the club. It provides a perfect snapshot of the Merseybeat scene in the sixties.

Pete Best has written his own entry for the group he formed after he left The Beatles in blue ball point pen, ‘Pete Best 4, Mrs Best, 12 Heymans (sic) Green, West Derby’, Searchers Chad Royal (1795).

123 Genius Trolls Who Took Trolling To Another Level
123 Genius Trolls Who Took Trolling To Another Level
Some funny people are born to troll. It’s in their genes, and there’s nothing they can do to resist it. They’re the people who put their foot on the scales when you’re trying to weigh yourself. They’re the people who give you a frozen block of dollar bills when you tell them you want some cold hard cash for your birthday. And they’re the people who tell co-workers that the new printer is voice activated and then sit and laugh as people yell instructions at it. Yes, they’re the ones that are never short for a painfully funny joke or the best prank ideas.
Scroll down for more hilarious examples of trolls doing what they do best – trolling. Compiled by Bored Panda, the list includes everything from prankster parents and funny felines to smartass sign holders, colleagues with far too much time on their hands and classical internet trolling. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite funny post!

In Praise of Libraries and the Forests That Surround Them
“In the most egalitarian of European—and New Mexican—traditions, forests were public commons in which common people could roam, graze flocks, hunt and gather, and this is another way that forests when they are public land and public libraries are alike: as spaces in which everyone is welcome, as places in which we can wander and collect, get lost and find what we’re looking for.”
-          It’s a common association, forests and libraries. There’s an innate connection between the two. There’s a terrific beauty in the process of a small sapling, growing over time, extending its roots into the earth, which at a point is extracted and used to transfer knowledge of that earth onto. Trees are our history in the both living and past, they tell of two different times. It’s interesting to observe the common associations of fairy tales with books and forests. There’s something we’re drawn to in that.
 Katie Paterson, Future Library
Katie Paterson is making a future library. In 2014, she planted a forest, in 100 years’ time (2114), the forest will be harvested to create an anthology of books. Every year a writer is contributing a text that will be held in trust, unpublished until 2114. (paraphrased).
-          This project flips the way we think about the purpose of books. Books, non-fiction and fiction alike, stamp a moment of history and time like a photo. These books however are to stamp a moment of the future. Again, this draws upon the aspects of time, and the connection of trees and forests to books.
To Restore Civil Society, Start with the Library
This crucial institution is being neglected just when we need it the most.
By Eric Klinenberg
“For older people, especially widows, widowers and those who live alone, libraries are places for culture and company, through book clubs, movie nights, sewing circles and classes in art, current events and computing. For many, the library is the main place they interact with people from other generations.”
-          Could look into comparing a library to community centres, without the stigma. World problems of loneliness and solitary isolation, especially in the older generations.
“Libraries are the kinds of places where people with different backgrounds, passions and interests can take part in a living democratic culture. They are the kinds of places where the public, private and philanthropic sectors can work together to reach for something higher than the bottom line.”
-          It’s a meeting point. People are drawn together to connect and collaborative to strive towards better things and versions of themselves.
“It’s worth noting that “liber,” the Latin root of the word “library,” means both “book” and “free.” Libraries stand for and exemplify something that needs defending: the public institutions that — even in an age of atomization, polarization and inequality — serve as the bedrock of civil society.”
-          ‘Book Free’ – can be reworded as free knowledge. Free understanding. Libraries are opportunities for anyone to learn and grow, and provide the opportunity for everyone no matter their backgrounds, to educate and better themselves. Stereotypes and social demographics are removed as one enters the doorway of a library. It’s a consistently positive environment. Like a gym is a place for people to work on themselves for the better, the library is the metaphysical equivalent. And would we ever consider removing gyms from society?

Discussion. Discussion is a catalyst for the growth of knowledge. Sharing ideas and concepts builds understanding and strengthens communities. – The Painting of the Great Library of Alexandrea, Egypt, Where the likes of Aristotle, Platos, Socrates, Pythagoras and more are seen discussing with people. Not a book or scroll is in sight in this painting. All scrolls and scripts are kept off site.
Tumblr media
Looking at modern libraries, ¾ of the space is dedicated to book stacks, with the last ¼ is for discussion and collaboration. 90% of the books are already available online.
Libraries have to be playful. Disconnecting from the stigma of a hushed controlled environment is vital.
