How can I find affordable housing for student living?

Hey everyone,

I recently set out on the grand adventure of figuring out my friend's uni living situation and wow, what a ride it's been! I thought I'd share some gems of wisdom I've collected about the on-campus vs off-campus housing dilemma to hopefully make your decision a tad easier. 🏡✨

Living on-campus has its perks, for sure. Convenience? Check. Social opportunities? Double-check. But then, there's the cost and the potential for feeling a bit too boxed in with rules. On the flip side, venturing off-campus offers this incredible sense of independence and often a kinder hit to the wallet. Yet, it comes with the adulting package of grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning. Plus, the commute can be a real buzzkill sometimes.

After weighing the pros and cons, what resonated with me was the need for flexibility and the desire to dip my toes into adulthood (with the option to retreat!). I opted for off-campus living and haven't looked back since. There's something about making your own space that truly feels empowering.

For those standing at this crossroads, my two cents? Consider what matters most to you in your uni experience. There's no one-size-fits-all answer, but there's definitely a right choice for you. 💖

What I have learned scouring Kijiji ads for roommates, and safer places to live:

-Every housing ad boasts of being "close" to something, but really you need to google map every location and determine how far "close" is. 

-Somehow this search for housing is less depressing at night than in the day.

-I always want to ask how big the bed is in the furnished rooms/apartments ads, but I never do because that'd be awkward.

-You will probably not get your dream  living situation because it's too expensive, or it's too good to still be available.
